I've been working slowly on a couple of small projects extremely slowly...

Here are two- Henkei Kup and Henkei Stepper! (soon to come will be Windcharger :D)

Work-In-Progress:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/th_6b694c78.jpg (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/6b694c78.jpg)http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/th_IMG_3623_S.jpg (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/IMG_3623_S.jpg)http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/th_b348904c.jpg (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/b348904c.jpg)
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/th_IMG_3343_S.jpg (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/IMG_3343_S.jpg)http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/th_IMG_3346_S.jpg (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/IMG_3346_S.jpg)http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/th_IMG_3358_S.jpg (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/IMG_3358_S.jpg)http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/th_IMG_3359_S.jpg (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/IMG_3359_S.jpg)http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/th_IMG_3621_S.jpg (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/IMG_3621_S.jpg)
With Stepper's top of the car I found some bloody dust stuck on it and so I sanded and polished up until the point it was as shiney as the last one :)

Kup:
When I was painting Kup - I was a bit impatient and was messing with him before the clear coat completely dried - so I decided to use it to my advantage - and made him all ding'ed up :) also added rust to some spots :D
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/th_IMG_3649_S.jpg (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/IMG_3649_S.jpg)http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/th_IMG_3648_S.jpg (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/IMG_3648_S.jpg)http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/th_IMG_3636_S.jpg (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/IMG_3636_S.jpg)http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/th_IMG_3646_S.jpg (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/IMG_3646_S.jpg)
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/th_IMG_3640_S.jpg (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/IMG_3640_S.jpg)http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/th_IMG_3638_S.jpg (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/IMG_3638_S.jpg)
I also added a wash of black ink to his mouth - it just makes so much of a difference to the head :D

Stepper:
I am really happy with how his paint turned out except right at the end I discover paint scraping where the doors open - d'oh - fixable but I won't bother for now -_-;; I still have a it more to touch up for him I think - but I am mostly done - I don't really want to do the whole firey emblem on the hood but I haven't really decided :\ Opinions? At must I might use the chrome sheets to make a flame on the hood and that's it :\ Either way, My Jazz has now become Stepper, and when I get my United Jazz, that'll be Jazz on my shelf :D

So yeah - comments opinions ideas are all appreciated :D

Wow Man!

Those are some great customs dude and I'm really digging the scratches and dings to Kup and you're right, the black wash over the mouth really does help the overall look of his face. ;):D
Stepper looks really awesome too and IMO, I reckon you should do the proper flames lcz128 - It'll really seal the deal with him and make him stand out really nicely but in a good way.

awesome as always love Stepper and the gold chrome

maybe instead of having flames on his hood have some small ones on the front guard and have some embers down the rest if the car slowly fading out, something to break up the black

or maybe some scaliops like these

How did you do gold chrome?

Wowsers, thanks for sharing these photos, lcz128! :D Those are both highly impressive pieces! You've obviously mastered the application of the gold/silver leaf, and its addition certainly 'Henkeifies' them beautifully.

What's the next step matey? Are there more customs in the pipeline? Keep up the great work!

Well, those are friggin' beautiful. It almost justifies ruining a perfectly good Jazz. Almost.

Thanks!! I'll work on the flames a little later in the week - but thanks for the feedback :)

*snip*

THanks loopy! I'm considering printing out some decals on clear sheets and sticking that on some of these gold leaf stuff and then apply it onto Stepper... Hrmmm...

How did you do gold chrome?
With these adhesive sheets of reflective stickers - available from places like hlj - just look for 'chrome mirror finish' or 'gold mirror finish' :)

Thanks man - I've been REALLY quiet on the custom side of things as nothing's really caught my fancy or really inspired me of late :( But these kind of just came out of the blue this year :) I'm loving the stuff you've been doing too! I have to make my own Guzzle and Rotorstorm too!
And yeah - the gold and silver leaf stuff just really gives it the henkei look, ey? Totally recommend it ^_^

Almost? ;_; dang... XD I tried my bestest! ^_^ But that said, Jazz is a work of art, ey? :D

Nice work! The paint apps look very good.

Thanks man - it's all thanks to you!! :) The paints you suggested and the clear coat - wow - that 3pack stuff is really wonderful! :D With some polish work it just really pops! :)

Hahahha - Well put, man - that's hilarious d:

Incidentally, Windcharger's just about done... :3
Windcharger
I decided to use chrome silver for his windows and windscreen - I think it works out quite nicely :D I only photographed him from this side cause I managed to cleverly chip a chunk of paint off his right side door ... go me -
THat said, let me know what you think - I might only make one or two smaller changes like chroming his side mirrors and painting the back black. Comments? :) (note the goldish reflection on some parts is cause of the gold leaf sheet next to him on the table.. ^^; )

For a certain lady-friend of mine, I've purchased a Deluxe RTS Bumblebee and this'll soon be repainted into proper - more yellow colours - Specifically I'll be using Lambo paints I got off hiroboy...
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/th_IMG_3795_S.jpg (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/IMG_3795_S.jpg)
And so it hath begun!

I have to say though that this is the first time I have been able to successfully dismantle Bumblebee as far as I have... :o Getting the pins that hold the shoulders together proved to be the most harrowing and scary, but it was a good, fun, learning, hammering experience. :D
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/th_IMG_3802_S.jpg (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/IMG_3802_S.jpg)http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/th_IMG_3804_S.jpg (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/IMG_3804_S.jpg)http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/th_IMG_3813_S.jpg (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/IMG_3813_S.jpg)

Just before starting the priming...:

Most of the initial priming done (used tamiya white primer that was diluted further with lacquer thinners):
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/th_IMG_3833_S.jpg (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/IMG_3833_S.jpg)http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/th_IMG_3834_S.jpg (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/IMG_3834_S.jpg)http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/th_IMG_3835_S.jpg (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/IMG_3835_S.jpg)http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/th_IMG_3836_S.jpg (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/IMG_3836_S.jpg)

This should be fun! I'll go home and microabrasive-up the surfaces to make it as smooth as poss - then start with the basecoat! More pictures tomorrow maybe... :o

Thank you sir Gamblor ^_^

So today I sat down after I got home and added... colour! ^_^
This is just the undercoat though - pretty satisfied with it - shall let it cure overnight then apply the basecoat :)

Very nice indeed! Looking forward to seeing more. :)

I was wondering, do any of you fellow customizers ever have problems with the newly applied paint over-tightening joints (which can then lead to scuffing/paint coming off)? Is there a good way to combat this or do you simply have to sand a lot?

lcz128
24th February 2011, 11:41 PM
doubledealer: I typically try to avoid joint painting as much as possible now cause of that - in the past I'd just sand like hell like you say - but thankfully of late the customs I've worked on haven't required that or have joints where there's full clearance - the only exception is Kup - but his has worked fine regardless- Lucky I suppose -

And with bumblebee - they're all ball-joints and only one side ever is getting painted (still wise to not paint - ie mask those bits) or sand!!!

Anyhow, more progress!
This is how it looked like with the basecoat applied - far more metallic and more pearlescent now! :D

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/lcz128_photos/Transformers/57bc8eb8.jpg

I then left it for a while, applied another coat of basecoat, then started with the clear coat- shiney as now... but still needs polishing :) I'll be leaving it to cure for a good few days then I'll start polishing the sucker - :D THen it'll be just detail work and assembly - crazy :D

For something new, I actually tried clear coating the gold United Bumblebee too- Just the alt mode - I'll see how that goes after the clearcoat cures :D Either way, I'm stoked! :D

Thanks for the comments dudes - very exciting times for me ^_^

it might be a bit too late now but for the metallic layer I usually partially assemble all the main panels together then spray a light layer to make sure the colour is uniform. I've found that Lambo colour changes quite a bit depending on how thick the pearl coat is put on.

AH! lol - it's okay :D I am slowly learning :D
Thanks though - I'll go home later today and start with the polishing :)

From left to right - grey primer, with a coat of white, then a second coat of white :D

Gosh, my jaws always drop when i see customs. There's just so much love in them. These are just so brilliant.

i have a question you guys might find silly but i'm actually curious to know::confused::confused:

how are you guys able to paint several coats on the figure without compromising the details on the mold? doesnt this impact the transformation as well?

Thanks bro. The key is light coats of paint I guess. Don't go gluggy and heavy with them.
With transforming unfortunately sometimes you get paintrub. Sometimes depending on the mould it seems unavoidable! ):

Still learning though!!!
Anyhow...

Yeah just go easy on the paint. An airbrush really helps with thin coats.
