So the battle in space two pack with rodimus and cyclonus is available at target, does anyone know if any of the other stores are going to be stocking it?
Or if Target is having a sale soon.
I'd kind of like the pack but I already have the classics of each figure so it's hard to justify the $50 price tag.

Looks to be a Target exclusive so far... and they're shelf warming. Mebbe Target will discount them later? <shrug> I'm not fussed since I already have all the toys and accessories in this set - the only thing that interests me is the comic book, but I'm not about to pay fifty bucks for a single comic book! :o

I am planning to get one to keep misb/ for a spare cyclonus and also don't have the matrix so the entire box looks decent enough to get. No rush though.
However, I will still get it online since its cheaper and more convenient, unless target clearances em down to like $30.

I'd bet vital parts of my anatomy that Target will have it on sale for $39. I wouldn't expect much better.

Honestly I would pass on it if you already have the figures, (which I didn't), the figures in the pack really aren't as high quality as their individual previous releases. The paint apps on Rodimus are poor and my Cyclonus has his nose cone paint fused and it's impossible to pop out in Jet mode.
The comic is decent but nothing special, is 5 minutes reading really worth $49?

I've had 3 of these Cyclonuses, and while one had a fused nosecone, another was just fine. (I haven't opened the third). If you're lucky enough to get a good one, I think it's much better than Universe Cyclonuses, but not as good as Henkei. It makes a great henchmen to stick behind the Henkei ;)
As to exclusivity, when Battlefield Bumblebee and Inflitration Soundwaves first came out, it was only at Target for a while (same price), and then other stores started getting it a month or two later. Might be the same here.

That sounds about right. Hope they get around to places like K-Mart or Big W at fairly reduced prices eventually.

At that price, it'd be hard to resist getting one (or two or three) :D

As much as I'm saving for Botcon, that's a pretty good price for me, though I still already have the original classics... but then I could have a hot rod and a rodimus prime on the shelf... hmmm

That set is worth it just for the nice new Cyclonus. Always had issues with the old version's paint job and the grey shoulder joints. Well worth it and no QC issues for my set too. Its all good :D

I want this set so that I can stuff my old Roddy into the Protector Armour and Cyclonus can have his ARMADA buddy. :) Can't wait for the sale.

Oh yes! Might pick up another one and repaint Cyclonus into Dirgeclonus:

Goktimus, you and I have a deal. And with a sale on, no doubt it shall be done.
One question; should his name still be Dirgeclonus or change it to something a bit more 'serious'? 'Armada' is a common fan-name for him.

I prefer Dirgeclonus over Armada. Maybe come up with an original name. If all else fails, call him Maynard MacGuffin. ;)

This Cyclonus is the best version of all I reckon. The colours are much better than the universe or henkei ones and the joints are nice and tight, unlike my henkei one which was far too floppy (and pretty violet-coloured - not very evil)

I almost agree, but I think the challenge at cybertron Cyclonus is the best because it is the same as the BIS one (I think) except without the crappy rub sign (really makes a fig look tacky imo) compared to the CAC with a nice printed decepticon symbol.

Objectively speaking, the one thing I like about BiS Cyclonus' colours over Universe Cyclonus' is the lack of the mismatching grays, which is my main criticism of Univ. Cyclonus. Also Nightstick features more colours which makes him look nice. Other than that I think BiS Cyclonus looks rather dull. BiS Cyclonus is great for people who like G1 cartoon colours whereas Universe Cyclonus' darker colours are still more G1 toy accurate and more similar to the way he was coloured in the G1 comics too.
I don't have a preference for cartoon colours (I prefer G1 toy-accurate colours), so BiS Cyclonus doesn't appeal to me all that much. But I can see the appeal for fans of show-likeness.

The other problem with Universe is the brown. G1 had no brown.
GoktimusPrime

For some reason the brown doesn't bother me. I'll admit that BiS Cyclonus does look really nice, but I'm satisfied enough with Univ. Cyclonus that I'm not prepared to go buy it.

I know it is likely that I am in the minority, but I really dig Hotrod's BiS pack colours. I like the cartoony aesthetic they went for, with the light blue windows, finally a good use for allspark blue!
It's easily my preferred scheme, even better than Henkei Rodimus which was superior to classics.
And the lilac and velvet purple Cyclonus is the icing on the cake for me, as I never nabbed the original classics release.

Can't really say I like Rodimus, but Cyclonus is awesome, he's not as lightly coloured as Henkei, but at the same time is free from the horrible grey plastic and unpainted face that make Universe Cyclonus look like a KO.

I really don't like the solid-coloured windows on Rodimus because it totally covers up all the interior details of the car mode (driver's seat, passenger seat, steering wheel, dash etc.). :(
For those who may not have Classics Rodimus, here are some pics:

In Melbourne this weekend and saw the two pack for $25 AUD which is a good price for AUS.
(Big W melbourne at least 10 there)
After buying this set - Cyclonus is great, Rodimus arm feel off immediately after purchasing him
Still $25 is same price as HK $195 - about time AUS sold things for the same price!

I think you will find that this is a discount super cheap price.
Toyworld had the BIS pack for $49 and I am sure Target will revert back to $49 if they havent done so.
I honestly feel that it is still cheaper to buy online overseas provided you dont go over the $1,000 limit.

How's the quality of this 2-pack in comparison to their original Classics (Rodimus) and Universe (Cyclonus) releases? Considering the apparent shift in the production methods and materials due to increase in costs I assume the quality might be below par?

Compared to their original releases, the BiS pack redecoes are cheap and nasty.
The quality of the plastics and paint definitely show cost cutting measures.

Pros (+) and Cons (-):
+ Both toys feature more cartoon-like colours which may appeal to you if you have such a preference
- BiS Rodimus' lack of clear windows really sucks
+ The colours on Cyclonus are more consistent whereas Universe Cyclonus suffers from mismatching greys on the thighs.
+ Nightstick's colours are a definite improvement.
- Cyclonus' colours are less toy-accurate (and thus less accurate to his comic colours and the way he was coloured in The Rebirth as a Targetmaster)
+ Comes with the Matrix - same as the one that came with New Year Convoy, only a little bit shinier.
- The Matrix isn't 'compatible' with Hot Rod or Cyclonus. Unlike previous versions it doesn't come with a chain that can be used to sling over someone's neck (e.g. Universe/Henkei Galvatron).
+ Comes with a free bonus comic book!
- The comic book isn't very good. Boo's art doesn't suit G1 IMO and I can't believe Furman wrote it... (T_T)
IMO this set may be worth picking up if:
* It's on sale
* You don't already own previous versions of the moulds of the toys and/or the Matrix
I wouldn't recommend buying it at full price.

Great revue Gok, I have the Bis pack now, still in box just waiting for the appropriate time to unbox. apparently the matrix fits in g1 prime? or so I hear.
I kind of agree with you on the colours, I like the uniformity of the Bis cyclonus but I really like the darker colours on the earlier cyclonus. Though you can't see through the window on hot rod I do like the more tv accurate paint job.
pros and cons, glad I got it cheap, also thinking about a second set to have an armada of cycloni, first army I've ever considered building.

Yeah it does. (http://hp41.0zero.jp/data/810/transform6/pri/38.jpg) :) The previous versions of this Matrix could also be placed around a person or Transformer's neck because they came with a chain that could clip onto it - hence those two holes. New Year Convoy came with a big chain that could fit around a person's neck, Galvatron II's Matrix came with a little chain that could fit around a Transformer's neck.
Like so...
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y227/goktimusprime/Transformers/thunderwing_gen_matrix1.jpg
But the BiS Matrix doesn't come with any chain. Though you should be able to purchase one from a jewellery store I suppose... but of course, that's an additional purchase whereas the previous versions of the Matrix had the chains included.
"Chains and batteries sold separately." :p :p

Saw this review (http://tilallaremine.wordpress.com/2011/04/07/g1-cyclonus/) of the BiS Cyclonus today and I don't see how anyone can say that the Generations Universe one is colored to be more G1 toy accurate than the BiS one. The Generations Universe one is quite the monstrosity:

While the grey on the Universe one is a bit bland, I do like the red highlights, I think they work really well in vehicle mode.
the BiS version is a little bit samey and washed out, though I do like the fact that there is no basic grey.
I'm yet to decide which is my primary favorite.

Cyclonus is the stand out from this set. The Hot Rod feels flimsy and cheap.
They still look great on the shelf with vibrant colours but Classics Rodimus is the superior toy.
