I had a big collecting epiphany this week- a huge realisation that I need to collect an entire line and it's going to hinder my current collecting goals. And that is to collect Beast Wars. (I blame Kup)

I came back into collecting with interest of the g1 verse- however as much as I watched g2 reruns as a kid (where my love of g1 came from), I fully loved and grew up with the original airing of Beast wars. Revisiting it was always at the back of my mind. While I had some Beast Wars toys, they got thrown out unintentionally along with an entire bag of figs including minty Power Rangers Megazord/Tigerzord. :( All that remains are 2 BW cardbacks of TM Cheetor and Rattrap.

Anyway, I need some help from the Beast Wars experts here (Hursty I'm lookin at you ). I want to collect all season 1 and 2 show characters from BW. Season 1 & 2- I aim for Carded stuff. Boxed figs-mib/misb (maybe). I only have a limited budget so I might make alot of concessions- I'm not that anal about bring fully original- might settle for a cheaper variant- but I definitely want sealed/carded- at least for season 1.

With preliminary searches there are so many variants/ i.e. "fox kids" stuff and different bubble/ 10th anniversary I want to know what the distinctions are? So Ill start off with season 1.

Maximals
Rattrap- Basic
Airrazor-Basic
Cheetor- Deluxe
Dinobot- Deluxe
Rhinox- Deluxe
Tigatron- Deluxe
Optimus Primal- Ultra

Predacons
Terrorsaur-Basic
Waspinator-Deluxe
Tarantulus-Deluxe
Blackarachnia-Deluxe
Scorponok-Mega
Inferno-Mega
Megatron-Ultra

Is this an accurate list of show characters in toy form? Am I missing anything? Can anyone tell me the different variations. Prices if possible? Or can someone point me to somewhere that has info for this?

Will appreciate any help. Sorry for long post!! :D

Also, is there some reason why Original Rattrap is so expensive?

There's a few variations of Cheetor regarding the beast mode eyes. There's two versions of Airazor, the video pack version is darker in colour and a bit more like the show version than the brighter regular basic toy.

The Fox Kids stuff was mostly random repaints IIRC and easily skipped.

Ultra Optimus Primal and Megatron were released in more show accurate colours and with some head remolding by Takara in recent years.

The Japanese versions of Blackarachnia and Tigatron from the Beast Wars Telemocha (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Beast_Wars_Telemocha_Series) series are much more show accurate.

In fact I think the Telemocha versions might be more show accurate for most of the deluxes listed above.

Its the gun. 2 very small brown pieces that go missing very easily.

29 show figures in all Hasbro released.

If you want to go crazy, get the Takara X-9 Ravage, takes the total to 30.

Then if you want to go even madder, get the build-a-figure Transmutate, for a total of 31 figures.

So should I go with telemocha/reissue or originals? Is there much of a price gap?

Noob question: And I get 0 results when I search "telemocha" on Ebay- why is this? What name do they go by?

Verno

The telemocha Taraka figures aren't that common on eBay. Places like Big Bad Toy Store and the like would be your best bet.

For availability, the original figures would be your best bet.

For show accuracy, the Telemocha are the way to go. I've got a set of them and they are very impressive.

The Hasbro 10th Anniversary repaints are hit and miss. The Tarantulas is good but the Dinobot is horrific.

I've got a few of the originals for sale. Blatant plug.

But I say have a look at the telemochas first and see what you think.

It's the only show mould that hasn't been rereleased since 1997. Thus it's an iconic iteration of a popular character and only available as a 'vintage' 14-year-old toy. (And yes, as Verno said, the little guns are often lost too, adding to the scarcity of complete Rattraps.)

Erm cant remember where I heard this but I think they lost the mold for Rattrap as well which is why the 10th anniversary ended up being the transmetal version of Rattrap.... again Im not 100% sure. Hence no rerelease of original Rattrap.

So far gdmetro , Verno is the only seller here Ive seen "specializing" in BW stuff, Skyshadow has MISC stuff too I believe - Blackarachnia was it?(jap version). Price range wise I cant contribute any sorry as Im not much into BW. I do collect em (nearing completion) but only 1 representation of each character - that of their transmetal (as much as possible) versions except when there's none (Fuzors) or if I prefer their non transmetal version (Inferno). You sure you want carded stuff? , that may be hard to find (or too pricey), prolly get piecemeal man. Get a complete figure then get the card backing _ for MIC/MIB but Im sure those 2 and others here can point you in the right direction on where to find stuff.

I wish you the best of luck in this endeavor as it is always great to have something to aim in this hobby of ours. I admit Im finding myself kinda lackluster with the TF collecting hobby since Ive finished (with the exception of a few items in my sig) G1 (US release) and have only TM Tigatron and X9- ravage( pretty darn Expensive buggers - so no hurry:p)Luckily there's other toys to collect heheheeh.

If I do come across stuff in my e-bay or toy searches Ill be sure to pm it to you.

Thanks. Looked through your thread and it seems I could get a bunch of s1 figures loose which is really tempting. Telemocha seem really rare- if not on ebay. They seem to align with what I am looking for but also not... I think if they are this rare despite being released in 2007 I might have to go for u.s. version originals- which are kind of what I wanted in the first place.

Can I be greedy and ask for pics of these telemochas?- If anything, the one fig I would want is telemocha Dinobot!! That guy looks TOO sweet.

Thanks Liege- really appreciate all the advice you've given me (esp at fairs).
I'm just trying to figure out what I want and what is reasonable to go for- might be good to go for loose- carded goal is a harder goal and will take longer but be more satisfying. I grew up with these toys on the shelves and could never find many opportunities to grab these figures as a kid... same with the g1 guys who want sealed.

Ultimately, I want to display these guys in package- won't really play with em' - (sorry Gok). I will definitely get MIB megas and ultras- so I can still have a fiddle before putting back in box- really want to play with an optimal optimus same as the one I saw tower down at me in Burwood Grace Bros. back in 1998!!! :D

The first 2 figures I want to definitely hunt for w/o compromise are:

1) MOSC Original Dinobot- This is the only BW figure and one of handful of figs I ever got from my parents whilst shopping with them on a whim. Other gifts were always from aunts/relatives/sister on bdays/xmas. I still remember- was at Target Burwood and I saw BW figs, asked if I could get one preparing to get a "no", and by some divine miracle my parents said yes. I scoured through and found a dinobot!!! Also as you can guess, my favourite character from the show. Too bad he was dumped in the trash/some lucky **** got my bag of BWs/power rangers stuff perhaps from a thrift store? cause my aunt whilst cleaning our garage didn't know and boom went all my childhood.

2) MIB Optimal Optimus- for the very reason mentioned above.

Season 3
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y227/goktimusprime/Transformers/volcanobasebattle_03.jpg
Depth Charge (Ultra)

Transmetal 2 Megatron (Ultra)
Optimal Optimus (Super)
Transmetal 2 Blackarachnia (Mega)
Transmetal 2 Cheetor (Deluxe)
Transmetal 2 Dinobot (Deluxe)

-------------------------------------
As for which version... just get whatever's easier/cheaper for you. The originals are great and most of the reissues are pretty good too. The only toy I would recommend avoiding is Hasbro's Transmetal Megatron as that toy is notoriously well known for suffering from brittle brown plastic syndrome. For Transmetal Megatron I'd highly recommend getting Takara's Metals Megatron instead as it has better quality plastic that's less likely to crumble on you.

Good hunting. :)

Well, I'm glad to see another Beast Wars fan join the ranks. ;):D
Really GD, there's not much I can impart on you that hasn't already been said. :o

My advice? - If you prefer MIB/MOSC then don't compromise because what you have working for you are 2 simple things IMO:

1. By limiting your BW collecting preference to show characters, you've drastically reduced the number of figures you'll need as well as the amount of money you'll have to spend. ;)
2. Whilst the MIB/MOSC BW figures may seem pricey, compare them to any G1 figure of the same status, a MIB Optimus Prime (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Transformers-VINTAGE-G1-OPTIMUS-PRIME-100-Complete-MIB-/370487918639?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5642cd002f): $355 (including postage) - a MIB Optimus Primal (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/transformers-BEAST-WARS-ORIGINAL-OPTIMUS-PRIMAL-GORILLA-/290517166928?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43a42c2b50): $140 (considered postage).

Personally, I think if you just pace out your spending/collecting, stick to show characters only and go with the original figures over the Telemochas (As they are the figures you saw and wanted as a kid ;)), you'll definitely be able to amass a beautiful MIB/MOSC collection and I truly hope you succeed dude because it is something I'd very much like to do down the track myself. ;)

Also, unfortunately for BW figures you'll find it near on impossible to try and find parts to 'build a complete figure' so to speak because unlike G1, unfortunately :(, spare parts aren't particularly numerous and I'm currently in this situation with a couple of my own figures such as Basic Rattrap, of whom has been mentioned :o, I thought was complete until closer inspection (I'm missing that blasted gun!). :(
So yeah, you're kind of restricted to buying 100% complete figures or MIB/MOSC figures if you want a complete and whole collection of figures. :o

The good thing though is there is a number of well versed BW Collecting members on the board that will gladly help you out where they can and between Verno (Who I've bought from on a number of occasions) and Autocon who are selling a large number of 100% Complete figures - You'll have a large number of figures you'll be able to obtain should you find yourself unfortunately having to go with non MIB/MOSC figures. :)

Keep us posted though dude and again, if there is anything you need to ask? - Please don't hesitate. ;):D

gee, I thought he was pretty good. :(

I agree with Verno -- not a fan of Hasbro's Dinobot reissue. There's nothing inherently wrong with it, it's just that the colours don't match either the original toy or the cartoon model. I think the colours on the original Dinobot are fine, although the Telemocha Dinobot reissue has more showlike colours, even with a mouth painted on.

My "Season 1" diorama has Telemocha Dinobot (clobbering Inferno), and my "Season 2" diorama shows original Dinobot (being thrown by Rampage).

Anyway, here are some toy reference pics:

And thats what it all comes down to: Preference.

With the amount of different Transformers available, its important to be informed and know what you're after. Then go after that and make no consessions, even if things aren't readily available.

I own a set of the Takara Telemocha figures and (even though I do have some of the original BW figures for sale, and if you decide to go down that path I'd be more than happy to help you out with what I can) I'd highly recommend them, they are as close to the show colours as you're likely to get and worth tracking down.

Did I just rob myself of a sale? Possibly. But it's important to not just buy the 1st thing you see but to take some time having a look around and then decide.

$80-$100 for a MISB would be a good price. Shipping from the States will add another $25-$35 on top of that becuase the box is big and the figure is heavy.

Loose complete ones are good for $70-$90 depending on condition. Again a few more $ for postage because of the weight.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind getting the telemocha since I prefer that kind of niche appeal - i.e. henkei- more expensive/exclusive but perfectly decoed versions. However... can't find them anywhere - I can't believe there are NONE on Ebay- how rare are they.....:eek:

I had a look at BBTS, HLJ, Toy Arena etc... None of them seem to have the Telemochas in stock anymore. I missed the boat with the Henkei Cheetor and Dinobot and don't want to give in and get the Classic versions because they don't look at nice.

I'm having the same problem, I too am after a MISB TM Op Op but can't find a decent one with reasonable postage.

Hmmm.... Henkei Cheetor is really cheap.. You can get it at retail price at around $20 excluding shipping.- According to HD they are shelf-warming in HK- and are shelf-warming online too. I considered Henkei Dinobot for my collection when I was accumulating Henkei last year- it was around $30 at the time. Probably rarer now and more expensive.

I was hoping more BW incarnations would come from the Henkei line but so far nothing is forthcoming. I would so very much love a new Rhinox figure!

Wow what a day.

On the weekend I was browsing BW stuff and stumbled on a U.S. ebay seller letting go of all BW show characters- MOSC/MISB. Sounds like a dream right? Obviously I couldn't get em' all...I didn't know if I was ready to spend.

A rush came when I won the seller's auction on a whim for FZ Silverbolt- $15.50 on Sat. Bargain!!, I thought. Then came the shipping quote... $30 odd bucks to ship a deluxe? I was given quote of $55 could ship 8 deluxes and 1 Ultra.

I did preliminary calculations to see how many/which ones I should go for. Today the auctions ended consecutively at around 10:15AM - Smack bang in the middle of my class. All I had to rely on were max bids before hand...(Couldn't use my laptop for Ebay during class/ Don't have any sniping software)

I think I did well in the end. Let me know if I paid more than I should have:

All are MOSC/MISB.
Fuzor Silverbolt $15.50
Basic Rattrap!!!!- $41.10
Deluxe Dinobot- $40.00
Deluxe Cheetor (probably green or red eyes) $19.99
Deluxe Rhinox $27.88
TM Rattrap $20.50
TM Cheetor $21.50
Optimal Optimus MISB- $85

Total $271.47 Not including shipping.
I'm guessing the shipping will be around $100.

This totally blows my budget for this month- probably not buying anything next month if I can help it (But I thought..it's my B'day this month :D)... so I had to chance it because of the shipping and go for as much as possible.

I'm peeved I got outbid for MOSC Tigatron and Airrazor. Anyhow, they are going to be my next targets after I recover from my wallet being destroyed.

What scared me were the ending prices for predacons:eek:... those are going to be a B*TCH to hunt/pay for...

Congratulations GD, I think you've done rather well there mate! :D
I reckon what you've paid for each figure is quite awesome considering they're MOSC/MISB - A lot of sellers charge similar prices for loose figures so you've done really well IMO. ;)

Basic Rattrap - Yeah, that's probably on par.
Deluxe Dinobot - As a fan favourite character, that price isn't too surprising.
Deluxe Rhinox - ^^
Op-Op - Not bad really, a good price I'd say for MISB.

It's always annoying missing out on auctions, but there is always another down the track and yeah, the Preds seem to command higher prices for some reason and I've never quite figured out why either.
Again, congratulations dude, you'll have to post some pic-ies when they arrive though! :D:cool:

Rattrap and Dinobot seem expensive, but you got a pretty good deal with Silverbolt!

Thanks... found quite a few telemochas on ebay for decent price!-def going to pick them up....

After doing some research- are the TM-01 convoy and TM-02 Megs both Ultra sized? Are they the same as the TRU 2 pack reissue besides deco?
I know the DX versions are repaints of the Robot masters (deluxes)- which would you prefer for accuracy/scale for display- I think I would prefer the ultra size.

And just to vent - can't find TeleMocha convoy or tigatron... seem to be really rare...

Nope. They're repaints of Robot Masters Beast Convoy and Megatron and are about 13-14cm, about Deluxe size.

Here are some comparison pics between the original Ultra BW leaders and their Robot Masters counterparts:

The Telemocha ones are the same mould, but repainted with cartoon colours. Pics:

So which versions of the optimus primal figure (Ultra sized) have the remoulded head -i.e. show accurate head with the mouth?

-Beast Wars Reborn Convoy?
-10th Anniversary ?

Anyone know the price range on these?

I'm personally not terribly fussed about show likeness since the toys came first. But if that sort of thing fancies your tickle, then you might want to consider either:

Beast Wars Reborn (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/attach/1/1135269238_0.jpg), or
DX Convoy/Megatron (http://www.transformertoys.co.uk/img/news/200709/tf-spdx01.jpg)

Also keep in mind that Optimus Primal did use his faceplate in the cartoon, which made him look more toy-accurate (pic (http://dauntlessmedia.net/wp-content/transformers/gallery/110-gorillawarfare/bw-110-gorilla-warfare%20%2838%29.gif)) -- he was the first Optimus with a retractable faceplate long before movieverse, Animated and TF Prime Optimuses came along. :)

If you're after an Airazor, Bigbadtoystore are selling sealed ones for under $20. Bargain! Hopefully they might have a few more sealed ones to make the postage worthwhile.

im on this very same mission. botcon exclusives aside im about 75% done
beast wars has a special place in my spark core because i was old enough by the time it came out, for me to actually have more of an appreciation for the characters and story telling. i was too young for g1 at the time to have a full appreciation for it.

the movie line has set me back abit since its taken up most of my cash for the past however many years.
