I've seen a lot of G1 Primes on eBay lately with broken trailers. I still have mine from when I was a child and it's literally in perfect condition. I believe the reason for this is that I hardly ever played with Primes trailer except when I used it on the odd occasion as the Autobot base - but even then you could only fit a few minibots in it.
Is there anyone else out there like me that never played with the trailer and still has it in perfect condition?

yeah i was pretty much the same, as a kid it was hardley played with, with my original prime the trailer is the best condition compared to alot of my other early tfs.. the actual prime is displaying loads of battle damage,
even though with all the primes we have gotten recently i still miss the trailer.
it really doesnt feel like a prime without it

My original Primes trailer would probably still be in mint except that my little sister, at the time a baby still in nappies, thought it looked like a comfy seat... the only thing that broke was one of the clips that the back door hinges on but gaaaah!!
I'm not bitter or anything.

I've noticed most of the ebay trailers have the back door broken off.
None of my G1 trailers have a broken door, but with at least two the repair robot won't stay up anymore.
Roller's launcher is also really poor on all of them, but that was probably the case from new anyway due to toy safety concerns at the time.

My childhood trailer is a mess. No door hinges, yellowed, broken tabs, missing roller etc. Interestingly I allowed my 5 year old nephew to play (supervised) with encore prime and the trailer door was pulled off around half a dozen times. No breakages but I eventually just swapped in the vintage one instead.

I loved playing with my G1 Prime's trailer!! It was the default Autobot base for ages until I got the S.T.A.R.S. base! But I've always been one to try to take good care of my toys... only one of the door hinges broke, but a piece of blu-tack kept that in place. It just meant that I had to be careful when opening and closing the door, but once it was fully opened or closed it stayed in place.
Of course, my original childhood 1984 Optimus Prime was stolen. :( *sigh*

Ahhh... blu-tack; is there nothing it can't fix :p

What about storing the trailer - does anyone leave Roller out of the launcher? I've heard of people doing this as its less strain on the spring mechanism.

Never thought of that. I always stored Roller in trailer with the launcher cocked. Of course, Roller got lost in '88 during a house move. :( Mind you the original G1 Prime trailer's launcher was never terribly powerful to begin with, I remember playing with it shortly after opening the toy (and applying all those stickers of course) -- it would pretty much launch Roller to the end of the ramp. It's not like the reissues which shoot Roller out and let him fly! :D
I don't have an original G1 Prime trailer any more - all of my trailers are reissues. Both are cocked with Rollers in place (one's in trailer mode, the other's in combat deck mode). My JafCon 9 Convoy's trailer's launcher is also cocked even though it's in upright Repair Bay mode... I just don't like the look of it sticking out. But considering how darn powerful the reissue launchers are, I'm not in fear of the springs weakening any time soon. But I had my original childhood trailer from 1985-2005 (*sigh* stolen on the 20th year of my owning it :() and the launcher was never noticeably weaker than the day I first had it. <shrug>

Makes sense. I always stored Roller in the launcher.
Has anyone got or ever seen one of the original G1 trailers that were the "super launcher" variant ?
See pic attached from the old Geocities TF variant page. I've been after one of these trailers for years...

Now THAT'S a launcher
On a side note - you're really milking the Time Warrior acquisition :p

Mine is fine and I used it as a substitute ARK. It was the handy base for all Autobots. My Roller suffered a front wheel coming off, but my dad managed to stick it back on with a screw. Thank goodness for dads hey?:)
It's still woking today, weak launcher and all, I almost jumped out of my seat when I got my Encore Prime and the auncer just flung Roller across the room:D
My Original Prime though, he is much worse for wear. Smoke stacks snapped, one donated, front bumper snapped from bashing through Decepticon blockades, his fists are a bit cracked, but he still manages to hold a picture of my wife up with style!;)

I should change that actually... I got Time Warrior ages ago now.
I'd happily update it if someone is willing to give me a '94 G2 Breakdown or a G1 Raiden to put there instead :D

Any chance you want to part ways with it ? :D
Otherwise, it would be great if you could post a Roller pic sometime ? I'm curious to see the difference
