From the Generations WARPATH instructions. The head sure looks like Hardhead

unfortunately, hasbro wont bother to make him a headmaster - so it'll be up to 3rd parties once again :/
i think it'll be headrobots to do the head since they did the universe hardhead version. but after the 'gyro' crap i hope they dont.

What happened re: gyro? Cause I thought it initially sold out but they did another listing a few days later. Did something further happen with that??
Makes sense with the whole hardhead thing to reuse the mold but I would've preferred some other character. I already have a hardhead from headrobot's onslaught mold upgrade. :/

Would they really do another Hardhead after repainting Universe Onslaught? I suppose they could considering it's a different size class much like the Warpaths.

This is pretty cool. I never liked the universe hardhead- seemed way too large and out of scale with other classics figs. While the upgrade was cool- still didn't fix the size + with it being so pricey...
This I can get behind. Will it come as a headmaster? If not, I'm sure head robots or some 3rd party group can give it an actual headmaster and a nice shoulder cannon that plugs into the missile launcher. Maybe even guns that use the clip system in tank mode.
There is just so much potential with the fig.
But is it possible to make it a headmaster? At deluxe size, even a square head would be really tiny.
Hope they eventually do all of the headmasters too!

A repaint toy will never be a Headmaster. The only way we'll get a Headmaster is if a toy is designed as such originaly.
Depending how long the CHUGa train keeps going I could forsee them doing new toys with transforming heads for important characters like Chromedome, United Goshoota/Siren and Nightbeat/United Minerva, and rather than more obscure ones like Hardhead.
Warpath's chest cannon is too distinctive but the colours might make it work. I really liked IDWs Hardhead redesign (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Image:Devastation4_Hardhead.jpg).

Not a good body choice for Hardhead. It's too distinctly Warpath.

I think that Hardhead is a lot less obscure than Minerva, Gosshoota and Siren.

I imagine Hasbro would want to produce a Generations Nightbeat but Takara would not be interested in it (like the no show of United Thunderwing) but Takara would be able to sell it as United Minerva.
But Takara would have a bigger market for Shuta than Minerva, so if they were making Minerva/Nightbeat I think they would make a Shuta, and if they did, then Hasbro would sell the toy as Siren (probably "Autobot Siren").
That's why I added "United" when I was naming them and ordered those pairs with the more likely characters first. Chromedome is pretty unimportant in Hasbro land too, but his role in Japan makes it more likely for him to get a toy if Takara want it.
I think it's probably even more likely that Nightbeat/Siren/Minerva/Shuta would all be the same toy with different colours/different heads/lightbar or not, two in Generations and two in United.

not exactly, though i assume it sold out quick anyway. but it would have been fine as a 2pack release with Blood but yeah limiting the numbers and only purchasable through one site which charged shipping to Australia about as much as they were asking for the Gyro set pretty much meant $%^! off from me.
in my opinion - if it was a solid release and got good reviews, people would go out of their way to acquire the 2pack ROTF W+B just so they can get the custom heads/weapons.

It'll never contend with this:

I'm with Kup, The Deluxe Warpath is way too distinctly Warpath. ;)
Pricey as it may be - Universe 2.0 Hardhead + Headrobots Hothead is far closer to the original G1 look and feel.
Head on!... Head On!... Head On! :p:D

I'm still glad they are using the mold for a Headmaster (without the partner though). Hopefully they decide to delve into other characters like Chromedome or Brainstorm to join him.

I would love a Chromedome and although the Sideswipe/Sunstreaker mold has been done to death and I am sick of it, I can't help but feel it's appropriate for the character in Sideswipe mode.

If the rumours prove trueThis Hardhead is affordable though. I do think the Headrobots Ultra Hardhead evokes more Hardhead body wise with his add ons attached. The fact that he is an Ultra, and so exspensive however is a huge turn off for me. I realise he was a lot cheaper when first released but I just don't dig these large scale homage repaints like Hardhead, Stormcloud, Darkwing etc. If I'm going to get a questionable repaint is should cost no more than a Deluxe, ala Skullgrin who isn't great but works ok for the cost.
I would have preffered Flywheels, or perhaps remaned Frywheels even, Guzzle would be good too, but i can see why they would want to avoid him as he is too similar to Warpath.
I think that Hardhead is a lot less obscure than Minerva, Gosshoota and Siren.
I dunno, in the comic I found Siren was more memorable than Hardhead, I suppose Hardhead appears in Rebirth though.

This beats the Ultra on vehicle mode, even with the 3rd party attachments.

Oh... I don't know about that:

I meant in terms of homaging the original.
Although arguably the Walmart Hardhead is meant to represent Hardhead's earth mode from Devastation, at which it does an alright but not great job.

Ah ok, fair enough.
You're right on the G1 Alt mode aspect there, no question about it. :p

IMO Warpath retooled as Hardhead seems less forced than Darkmount retooled as Skullgrin. ;) Anyway, Universe Hardhead was never sold here, and the 3rd party add-ons isn't an option for those of us who only collect legit/licensed stuff. Seems expensive too.
I'd be satisfied with a Generations Hardhead personally. As for it not being a Headmaster, as Paulbot said, it'd only work if the original mould was a Headmaster. And besides, ROTF Bludgeon, Generations Thunderwing and Generations Skullgrin aren't Pretenders and not many people whinge about that. <shrug> Perhaps Hardhead simply never became a Headmaster in the Classicsverse, much like how he also never became a Headmaster in IDWverse (and Sunstreaker did (http://tfwiki.net/w2/images2/8/83/Sunstreaker_Head-On.jpg)!).
I personally would've preferred seeing Warpath repainted as Treds (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Treds), but I guess that might be too obscure for the average casual collector. Could work as an exclusive figure (much like Games of Deception Bug Bite (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Bug_Bite_%28G1%29))

Thats a cool idea actually. Far to clever for Hasbro though.
