This question is regarding the G1 cartoon. Do you think it was valid for them to bring Optimus Prime back to life? I mean, 'The Return of Optimus Prime' was a nice 2 parter, and a good finale to season 3. But come on. The guy died. His body turned grey, his eye lights went out. The autobots gave him up for dead and sent him off on a funeral barge in space. The matrix was passed on. Suddenly a year or so later the hate spores are everywhere, and it's like 'oh let's just get a quintesson and bring him back to life!' If it was possible...why not try it before?

Of course, we all know he was brought back because kids liked him and not Rodimus. But as far as the in-series explanation, even as a 10 year old I had trouble with it.

In a world where robots can turn into cars, guns and dinosaurs and fight then yes I think it's somewhat valid.

I personally look forward to OP dying and being resurrected. TFA was probably premature and it took less than a minute to revive him. I cannot wait until he dies in TF:Prime

I can understand why they did it -- with all the angst and pressure Hasbro got from parents... but I didn't like it. I think the cartoon should have done what the comics did; only bring Prime back when there's a new toy (i.e. original, Powermaster, Action Master, G2, Combat Hero). Seeing Prime come back as his same old self was just... meh. (-_-)

My theory is it's a variant on Starscream's immortal spark, especially the Animated version (except as an innate characteristic like G1 Screamer).

Narratively, in the Sunbow continuity? - I'd say yes.
Yes, because the Quintessons were the original constructors of the Pre/Transformers race so it isn't really a far stretch, for me anyway, to see how they could've brought him back and the motives for doing so. :o
Whether it was the right story direction to take?, I don't know, but I do like the idea of Zombie Transformers though. :D

Perceptor was so inept he couldnt save prime the first time he died... so they needed a quintesson to bring him back... but yeah if that was possible why didnt they just do that in the first place? A very valid logical query, yet as we all know the Sunbow cartoons was riddled with inconsistencies and mysteries, inaccuracies, prolly due to having a whole slew of different writers doing the stories... its like the Combaticons.. who appeared ambushing the aerialbots then all of a sudden a few episodes later they just got created by starscream?!?! chicken and the egg kinda thing...for me I just wish when he came back it was in Powermaster form that way it could be explained as they couldnt really revive him as his old self but needed the PM process to jumpstart him so to speak - a new spark ..

Well that would be because the Autobots did not know that the Quintessons existent back when Optimus died.

When he was being brought back to life Roddy said Why have we never thought of this before?

They shouldve brought everyone back to life hehehehe all 1984-86 guys that "died" taht way ratchet will be back to rrepair everyone, and not settle for inept Perceptor... but then, hmmm the funeral barge they were on got shot to a star ah well so much for that idea....

It was a logical justification for the fact that Hot Rod (rather than Rodimus Prime) had a Targetmaster toy in Series Four.

Optimus Prime's spaceship was also supposedly shot into a star, but he was rescued - maybe Ironhide et all were too! ;)

Or how the Decepticons built the Constructicons on Earth episode 16, but then in episode 46 the Constructicons existed on Cybertron who were friends with Omega Supreme until Megatron reprogrammed them as Decepticons. Then in episode 69 Rodimus Prime gazes into the past through the Matrix and witnesses the Constructicons creating Megatron!

And Ironhide was rebuilt as Power Master Ironhide (http://tfwiki.net/w2/images2/6/6c/G2Powermaster_Ironhide.jpg)... but upon seeing what he had become, Ironhide threw himself into the nearest sun. ;) :p

That would be completely understandable. ;):p
