Plot description has been released (http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/transformers-exiles-plot-description/21130/) at Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Transformers-Exiles-Alex-Irvine/dp/0345519868/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1300978654&sr=8-1).

"The epic battles between Optimus Prime and Megatron have long thrilled Transformers fans. But these two giants weren’t always great leaders and bitter foes. This new novel continues the electrifying saga that started with Transformers: Exodus, unveiling the origins of the conflict—the explosive events that unfolded before Optimus and Megatron arrived Earthside, forever altering the destiny of their kind.

Once allies, Optimus and Megatron are now enemies in a civil war. To prevent Cybertron from falling into Megatron’s hands, Optimus jettisons the planet’s heart, the AllSpark, into space, then sets out to find it with Megatron hot on his heels. Optimus is determined to defeat Megatron, bring the AllSpark home, and restore Cybertron to its former glory.

But a saboteur lurks aboard Optimus’s spaceship, and ahead lie lost colonies, some of them hostile. Optimus needs help of the highest caliber, but from whom? Heroes such as Solus, Nexus, and Vector Prime are just names from make-believe stories of long ago. Or are they? Maybe it’s time for Optimus Prime to find out. Maybe it’s the only chance he has to vanquish mighty Megatron."

Interested to read about the older Primes, but that is about all.

Exodus was quite interesting up until the point at which Prime and Megatron found themselves actually fighting their war. At first they were minor players debating a need for society to change, and we saw complexities in their relationships and with the wider population of Cybertron. However by the end they became more like forces than people, and made their story less interesting to read (although could be seen as analogous to an increased one-dimensionality as their views became more black and white).

I agree, I found the first half to two thirds much more interesting. still worth reading though, I'm certainly looking forward to the next one.

The first book mentioned some of the planets from Cybertron like Speed Planet and Giant Planet. Could end up with a few chapters of car racing and a few chapters of walking through tunnels. :p

With Exiles now out, a short Q&A was posted up on suvudu.com (http://sf-fantasy.suvudu.com/2011/10/interview-transformers-exiles-by-alex-irvine.html) with the author, which gives a few teases and info on the contents of this second book, and how it tries to fit in with the Prime and Movie universes.

Got the book today and had a quick flick through the first half of the book spoilers - beware! confirms that they are merging G1 and Cybertron, with the Autobots on Velocitron with characters like Override, Clocker, Ransack.. and I can't quite tell if Blurr is with the Ark crew or a local. I'll need to read the book to find out.

A bit of news I guess, in that Alex Irvine (the author of both Exodus & Exiles) has announced (http://alexirvine.blogspot.com/2011/10/to-transformers-fans.html) that he won't be doing future books in this series. Someone else will. Since Hasbro are the ones who set up the story framework, and approve or veto events in the stories, a change of writers shouldn't mean much in the grand scheme of this new story universe.

Lets hope there are better proof readers hired for future books, the first one was riddled with place and character errors (not mentioning typos and whatnot), where charatcers would jump from place to place or just appear etc.

Paulbot, they aren't merging G1 and Cybertron as such, they are making some kind of new "alternate main story" that borrows/steals parts and pieces from the other previous universes/stories.
Apparently (if hasbro are to ever be believed) all the series for the next decade or so will use this WFC/Prime timeline/universe as their backing even though there are massive inconsistencies and gaps...

Might order the second book soon, only just finished the first, it was a very quick read, but not because it was a page turner.
