Courtesy of TFW2005.com (http://www.tfw2005.com/), Simon Furman and Andrew Wildman have expressed interest in picking up where they left off with the original G1 Marvel Comic Continuity and have put the idea to IDW, see here (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/comics-16/simon-furman-ready-to-be-back-with-transformers-g1-issue-81-time-for-a-support-171816/) and here (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/comics-16/andrew-wildman-shares-his-thoughts---the-transformers-81-petition-171844/).:cool:
There is now an online petition to IDW to take the pair up on their proposal, so head on over and sign your names (http://www.petitiononline.com/tf81idw/petition.html) guys!. ;):D

Wow, a petition that people are actually interested in signing and not just taking the piss! I sincerely hope this pans out (particularly since it's exactly what I suggested eleven months ago: http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?t=7579)

i would love to see this happen and with the sucess of the continuation of gijoe. why shouldnt it be explored...

I see this as more likely to happen for Free Comic Book Day (if they havn't already said which comics will be available)

Hopefully though the G1 series does get a look in and ignores the events of the US G2 series.

Also added myself to the online petition :)

They obviously won't have time to make it before this year's FCBD issue anyway, but fingers crossed for 2012.

C'mon 2012 - 21 years since the end of the series (it was 1991 wasn't it?)

Heya, i don't get here often enough!!! awesome to see the links above!
we've got over 500 signatures but want more!

if you go to Simon's blog (simonfurman.wordpress.com) you can see a Q+A that I did with him recently and his answer to Q6 is what got this thing started. DecepticonsRule and I on the IDW forums couldn't imagine such a quick response!

If you're on facebook we have a page there you can like and we're on twitter as well.
Follow us @TF81fromIDW and visit us on facebook here (http://www.facebook.com/pages/We-Want-Simon-Furman-and-G1-TF-81-from-IDW/113954648684693)

That was the end of the US series. The UK series ended in 1992.

I got Facebook, but I can't access it from here. :( Hopefully Taiwan's internet won't be as filtered... otherwise it'll have to wait till I get back to AU. That and I can directly express my support to Wildman too. :)

So continuing where G1 ended... does this mean they're going to try to bridge G1 with G2 (e.g. explain how Megatron lost his psychic link with Ratchet, how Optimus Prime and Grimlock became "un-Action-Masterered", how/why the Transformers left Earth, or at least the Autobots - and giving their inter-galactic beacon to G.I. Joe etc.), or are they just gonna ignore G2 altogether? I'd like to see them try to fill in some of the continuity gaps between G1 and G2.

Simon mentions he'd continue straight from #80 and ignore G2 as, in his words, "it was quite 90's"

Too bad I would have liked a proper G2 ending. An extension of the classic G1 comic would be awesome, though I do wonder wether they would A: Remember continuity this many years later and B: Continue using the same cast of characters rather than revert to Optimus and Megatron and co dominated stories. eg: More than just the usual G1 crew.

IDW have already started a continuation of the old MArvel Gi Joe comic written by Larry Hama so I would think that this would be on the cards for Transformers too. That said I noticed there are continuity eras in the new comic with a dead character returned, and some history missing, so It makes me wonder about these 15-20 odd year latter continuations.

Good idea though I will go sign, given current TF comics don't interesst me much.

I juts LOLed at the fact that someone called "Kevin Roller" wrote "If it doesn't override G2 then I support this". Hmm... I wonder who that is. :p

so, are there any more people out there interested in this?!? we have 1200 signatures on the petition, but that's hardly enough to even convince IDW to look at it properly I reckon!

An article on Newsrama website (http://www.newsarama.com/comics/transformers-fans-petition-idw-110425.html) about the petition, and Simon Furman's thoughts on it and what he'd like to do with it.

The petition is currently at 1774, but IDW might not be interested unless they can reach 10,000... which is a long way to go (and a month old now).

Over 2200 signatures now. The last fortnight has been very encouraging. Hopefully people that are going to conventions can keep getting the word out.

Email me @ tf81fromidw@gmail.com if you want a flyer to spread around town. I've got some at Phantom Zone parramatta currently. :)

Is there an online version of the flyer for people to d/l and print? Cos I always carry around a cache of OTCA mini-flyers with me (I just gave out another one today) -- I can easily give out flyers for this petition too... and I'm sure a few of us might be willing to print out and distribute them at Dark of the Moon sessions in cinemas.

Seibertron reposted some art (http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/is-there-life-in-transformers-81/21967/) from Guido Guidi's DeviantArt with an 80's colouring look. I'd doubt they'd colour a modern comic in full like this commercially, but it does look good. I'd buy a copy of the BotCon Games of Deception comic recoloured like this (that was #81 enough for me).

I love it. I think that's completely how they should do it. I prefer the benday dots and retro colouring, and it would definitely make the comic stand out from the 21st Century crowd.

I'd personally like to see a little more than 4-5 colours per frame though - Keep the benday dot approach but with a greater colour palette variety IMO. ;)

In the original Q+A that I did with Simon (check out here (http://simonfurman.wordpress.com/2011/03/), he mentioned going back to Marvel US G1, and that he'd prefer at first to leave G2 alone. He's mentioned it a couple of times in interviews since, saying that as the proposed series progressed (here's hoping) he could tie in threads, seeds or references to G2.

The new flyer in comic style should be ready tomorrow night btw!!!

The jury is still out for me in terms of how they handle the G2 storyline. Even if they leave it alone, they can't exactly pretend it never happened either.

Newsrama talk to Simon Furman (http://blog.newsarama.com/2011/07/29/petition-accepted-idws-transformers-81-official-for-2012/) about the project, detailing that there should be an issue #80.5 to catch up people who didn't follow Gen1, then a run of 20 issues that they hope to have start in the first half of next year.
Andrew Wildman is said to be included in the project, even though he said a couple years ago that he was "retiring" from Transformers.
It's also mentioned that they still only have about 27hundred signatures to the online petition, that hoped to get 10,000.
