Referring to a previous thread about the Top 5 Transformers classicverse toys, I wanted to take it one step further and include stuff like fansproject, igear's kup head, devils cliffjumper.

So please tell me/us your favourite classicverse toys (and if they include a third party customisation as well)

My top 5

1. United Jazz - best of the best
2. Fansproject Bruticus - is this not the most amazing third party toy avaliable?
3. Fansproject Ultra Magnus - a true honour for Ultra Magnus' fans (like me)
4. Seekers - Since buying Generations Thundercracker, I feel the toy is fantastic - Thrust, Dirge have all enhanced this experience.
5. United Tracks - is there a sexier figure out there?

Note worthy mentions....
Warpath - havent got him but looks great from reviews
Ratchet - cause he costs so much money...
Protector - in truck mode he really looks good
Grimlock - cause HD loves him

I don't know what counts as Classicsverse (it would be easier if there was an empirical definition), but these are my favourite 'homage' toys from the past five years:

Top five:

Reveal The Shield Lugnut
Movie Decepticon Fracture
Generations Thunderwing
Sea Spray
Universe Ironhide

The rest of my top ten:

ROTF Sparkcrusher
Axor
BotCon 2010 Sky-Byte
BotCon 2007 Huffer
Universe Special Edition Overkill

I don't know what counts as Classicsverse (it would be easier if there was an empirical definition),
I thought the empirical definition was CHUGUR, but then SPDLFA* so "Classicsverse" became more favourable.*shrug* To me Classicsverse = CHUGUR. Chooooooger!

This is what I'd initially erronously posted on the Top 5 GUR thread which also included CHU... heh. So I'll just paste it here again since this thread's more appropriate (and I'll delete it from the other thread :))

5. Classics Starscream: Took me a while to warm up to this mould, but it's a very nice update of the original G1 Seeker mould with contemporary engineering. Robot Masters Seekers look better for display, but the Classics offer better play value. The Universe repaint of this mould looks nice, but I chose Classics since it's the only version I have. :p Classics Skywarp is nice too - colours aren't as nice as Gentei Skywarp's, but Classics Skywarp doesn't suffer from mould degradation issues that his Gentei counterpart has.

4. Classics Mirage: What's not to love about this toy? ;) Love the poseability!

3. Classics Bumblebee: At the time it came out (2006) I thought it was the coolest Bumblebee toy since Pretender Bumblebee! The hatchback alt mode looks nice... keeps Bumblebee as a compact and avoids a lawsuit with VW. The open inside details with driver and passenger seats is also especially nice. It's like a simplified form of what we get with BinalternanirtyKISSplay but at a Deluxe size and price point - neat!

2. Classics Optimus Prime: It's just a really cool toy! I like how the wind vane and smoke stacks become weapons.

1. Classics Jetfire: An amazing hybrid between the original Macross-based toy and the Marvel/Sunbow model used in the G1 comics/cartoon; and homaging two distinctly different looking models isn't that easy. Hats off to HasTak for such an ingenious design.

---------------------

An honourable mention to Henkei Megatron. Although the Classics Megatron mould may be based on the Nerf Maverick, it finally gave us a chance to own a gun Megatron (instead of another jet or tank etc.) but without incurring legal issues from being a replica firearm. But I was never a fan of Classics Megatron's Clown Colours - and Henkei Megatron massively improves on that. He's the only gun Megatron I own whom I can proudly display on my Classicsverse Decepticon shelf alongside his troops, and not have to imprison in an isolated glass case! And of course, he's the only gun Megatron that I can carry around in public too. :)

Way to make it even harder UltraMagnus. :p

Okay, here we go :cool::

Classics/Universe 2.0 - Cyclonus w/ Nightstick
Classics/Universe 2.0 w/ Fansproject - Bruticus
MGT01-Delicate Warrior - Arcee
Classics - Starscream (Seeker Mold)
Reveal The Shield - Lugnut

Notable Mentions :):

Classics w/ Fansproject - Ultra Magnus (Optimus Prime Mold)
Perfect Effect - Frenzy & Rumble (Shadow Warrior Mold)
Fansproject - Warbot (Defender)
Classics/Universe 2.0 w/Head Robots - Hardhead (Onslaught Mold)
Classics/Universe 2.0 - Cosmos

Where needed, I've made mention of a specific Mold as I believe that the Mold in General has made quite an impact and deserves it's own mention. ;)

Realistically, it is excruciatingly hard to come up with a list because Classicsverse and 3rd Party combined, are crammed full of excellent figures and putting a number on them is probably not even fair. :o
What is for certain, is that 3rd Parties have definitely made an impact on the line/s but HasTakTom are still king of the hill, though FP-Bruticus has made a consorted journey up that lofty peak. ;):D

While it wasn't the reason I got back into collecting, Classics et al are now my raison d'etre. To me, the reasons for the lines' greatness are that with the modern advances in technology, they've delivered not only technically superior toys, but toys that matched the animation I thoroughly co-enjoyed while collecting and playing with the original toys as a child. Therefore, my favorite toys are the ones that either weren't available at that time, either entirely, or just in the greatness that they exist now.

In no particular order:

Unicron (Transformers 2010)
How could you make a movie to advance a line of warring toy characters, and not make a toy of the biggest, baddest, bad guy. The Unicron that TakaraTomy made in 2010 is that Unicron. It's absolutely perfect. Earlier versions need not apply.

Skyfire (Henkei or Classics)
I loved my G1 Jetfire as a child, but what I always really wanted, was a Skyfire toy. Heroic, futuristic, I adored that character and his alt mode. While the Classics/Henkei reincarnation is a blend of both Jetfire and Skyfire, the head mold is so perfect (best ever), that it still completely successfully exudes Skyfire to me, making me one happy camper. I have the slightest preference towards the Henkei flavor, but Hasbro outdid themselves with this one, as their version is virtually equally exceptional.

Wheelie (Universe)
I'm sure this one will be contentious. I loved G1 Wheelie, both in the cartoon, and in the G1 toy, although only so far as the alt mode. Not only did the robot mode not match his fictional representation, it was arguably the shittest robot mode in any Transfomer to date. While TakaraTomy blew it with the colors, the Universe version is excellent.

Bruticus (Universe, Fansproject)
I've said it before. This amalgamation of toys, accessories and add-ons represents the greatest Transformers I have ever seen or owned. The fact that half of it was designed expos facto only adds to the awe. Scale, articulation, armament, this guy is what everyone should have always wanted in a combiner. Kudos to HasTak's initial work and IP, and to Fansproject for their extending vision.

I can't come up with a fifth that I feel represents the caliber of these four. I do have a few honorable mentions though:

Thrust, and all of the other seekers (Henkei)
G1 seekers were tight-ass Partformers. Great alt modes, but no fun, and prone to parts loss. The modern equivalent is great, especially the diversity of the four flavors. Thrust just happens to be my favorite, but they're all great, although a bit boring.

Hound (Henkei)
I got the Universe version first, and I really liked it. Then I got the Henkei version and I was in love; the dark, rich green, the great head mold, it's G.I.Joe-Vamp-esque alt mode, and lastly, that gunmetal colored chrome they used on the front bumper is just pure love. It's the little things. ;)

Every other Henkei, United and Fansproject toy
When i think about it, I absolutely adore these lines and virtually all of the toys within them. As I've just finished putting the final toys on my 1986 Movie Autobots display, I really couldn't be happier as a Transformer collector.

Unicron (Transformers 2010)

Hmmm... interesting. If he counts as a Classicsverse toy, then 2010 Creator Primus well and truly knocks Universe Ironhide out of my top five. :)

It's quite interesting that no one has included in their list Henkei/Classics Prime with the G3 trailer.... :) that trailer is all flavors of awesome and has finally solved the "mystery" of where it goes during the heat of the battle:D:D and combined (well blended if I may say) with the official Prime toy just enhances it very well!. True , it's not as exciting but with the oodles of weapons it comes with and an excellent modern day roller, launcher, and whole other gimmicks, Im sure it's well worth even a notable mention.

Cool question. Based on how much fun it is to fiddle with:

1) Deluxe Warpath - He's just perfect, from the Transform to the articulation to the kick ass vehicle mode, hes just a great toy

2) Igear Weapon Specialist (Ironhide) - hes exactly what I want in an Ironhide. The cool gear, the cool transformation, and the great size make this the perfect version of this character for me.

3) Drift - I get some people hate him, but he is a favorite of mine. I love the Knight aspect, his car mode is good and his robot mode isn't bad either. add the reprolabels set and hes an amazing figure.

4) RTS Jazz - A locking chest would put him at the top of the list (or further up it anyway) but otherwise, whats not to love? The ultimate figure of the Ultimate 'Bot Commando.

5) Classics Ultra Magnus with Fansproject City commander gear and Dr Wu face- It was a long time getting there, but i now have an Ultra Magnus who matches my IDW one in all its awesome :)

Hon mentions:
Igears Mini warriors, The Sideswipe/Red Alert/Sunstreaker mold, Classics Prime (With G3 trailer), Kup with Igear head and Perfect Effect Arcee.

Ok, here goes:
1. RTS Repaint of Universe/henkei Cyclonus- around 100% accuracy- great, G1 jet and great posability- also has targetmaster Nightstick to boot.
2. Classics Seeker Mold- Pure perfection, great molding, not 100% accurate but still extremely scary.
3. Henkei Hound- Very accurate and has a nice new spin on the jeep mode, though still keeping that G1-ish aspect. Good head mold and Ravage!
4. Classics Jetfire- Very good homage to a very good G1 toy. An impressive addition to any collection.
5. Generations/henkei Wheeljack- Though not perfect in terms of height, this one has a great altmode, awesome colours and a superb head sculpt. I bet you could even rig some LEDs in that head. Ingenuitive transformation as well. Very good toy.
That's my five! Hope you enjoyed.

Here's mine:

1)Jetfire - with reprolabels, love my Macross/Robotech!
2)Optimus Prime - with Dr Wu Matrix Sword
3)Drift - the sword & head sculpt just make it pop
4)RTS Cyclonus - so cartoon accurate
5)BotCon Kick Off - the colours & mold just make it look so awesome

Just went through and tried to do as comprehensive collection of CHUG/3rd party stuff as possible and found it to be a pretty daunting/expensive task so I sorta... got rid of everything. BUT I became quite fond of deluxe scale toys so I guess that's nice. Or whatever. Not sure where I'm going with that.

But I guess as far as what I think are my top five, I'd probably go (no real order)-

1. Warpath (or potentially Hardhead retool, which I haven't seen yet)- Just seems to go together quite well, no ridiculous kibble (the arms look a bit funky with the treads on them but I suppose that can't be helped). I like how the turret goes back in the chest?

2. Skyshadow- I guess I found the head on Thunderwing a bit funny, but the Skyshadow repaint is nice. It's one of those nice, filled out molds of a fairly obscure character that you don't get too often (I mean, except for 2010 Generations, given Darkmount and Skullgrin and whatever, yeah...). I guess the colours seemed to work for me.

3. Cyclonus- Another fairly kibble free, show/comic accurate(ish) guy, nice articulation, interesting transformation. Ideally would like a Metalhawk repaint/remold (The Botcon Thunderwing retool/redeco is awful) but won't complain if there isn't one (there won't be). Also the target master is a good little thing.

4. Jazz- I get pretty mixed reception to this but I quite like him, again another fairly show/toy accurate representation, not too blocky, proper articulation etc. Just nice I guess. Just a shame that a majority of his repaints are exclusives/too expensive for me, with the exception of Wheelie who I don't think really fits (I like it but it's just not... I dunno, right. For me anyway).

5. Darkside WFC Megatron (and I guess to an extent his Optimus Prime buddy) - I guess I just like black colour versions of toys.

So err... yeah. I guess when it came to things like Fansproject Bruticus, or MakeToys Devastator or a few other things, they were nice but a bit fiddly. Maketoys microbots were very good though, and umm... I dunno.

From an Australian/Westerner POV, Black (Sky) Shadow is a far more obscure character than Straxus (Darkmount) or Skullgrin. Skullgrin would be the least obscure out of that lot, as that toy was available in regular retail stores here. Straxus is widely known to English speaking G1 fans as he obviously originated from Anglophone G1 continuity (although he never had a toy before). But Black Shadow only ever existed as a fairly low-key Takara exclusive toy/chararacter who, even in Japan, was one of the less prominent characters. The Crossformers' appearance in the animé wasn't very prominent, and their appearance in the manga even more obscure (if ever... I can't even remember what they did in the manga). And the fact that Generations Sky Shadow was never released in Australia didn't help things either. :) So yeah, Black Shadow is certainly a very obscure character from an Australian POV! :D

Yeah, so you got yours from overseas too. AFAIK noone ever sighted these toys in any local Australian stores... at least, not in regular retail outlets like Kmart, Target, Toys R Us etc. At best you might find them in a specialty import store, but they don't count for 'official' Australian releases (plus they're expensive because of all the import tax/levies/excise/duties that the govt slaps on them).

This was hard - they are all among my fav's! I LOVE seeing a modern but faithful take on the classic characters.

In no particular order:

Jetfire (Classics) - With the removable armor and helmet, tons of guns etc he makes a beautiful bridge between the original toy and Skyfire from the cartoon.

Warpath (Generations) - BEST. WARPATH. EVER!

Wreck-Gar (RTS) - When I got Junk Heap and discoved that Wreck-Gar could actually RIDE HIM LIKE IN THE MOVIE - DEAR PRIMUS I WAS OVERJOYED!

Onslaught (Universe Classics) - One of my fave bots ever. He looks so tough in both modes but as a robot he is just beautiful and deadly to behold

Optimus Prime (Classics) - Was the first Optimus toy I got where in robot mode he REALLY looked like an awesome version of himself from the G1 cartoon.

Top 5 Honorable Mentions:
*Powerglide (Universe Classics)
*Octane/Tankor (Universe Classics)
*Silverbolt (Universe Classics)
*Sergeant Kup (Generations)
*Blurr (Generations)

Could easily list another 20 I love (Jazz, Perceptor, Cyclonus + Nightstick, Bumblebee, Dirge etc etc etc)

The Top 5 (no order)

Classics Jetfire
Near-on perfect Transformer Voyager toy ATMO.
Generations Warpath
Great modes, great G1 homage, great toy. Bonus points for cool retracting barrel.
Generations Wheeljack
Another fantastic homage. Looks great in both modes, good articulation, nice transformation.
Classics Optimus Prime
Hard to go past this one. Blew my mind when I first saw the pre-release official images of this one and Classics B'Bee. Bonus points for nifty weapons.
Henkei Megatron
Probably my favourite incarnation of this character. Not overly accurate but pretty damn spiffy! (Gotta be henkei for the colours too).

The Bottom 5 (aka Honourable Mentions)
WFC Optimus
WFC Megatron
Generations Drift
Generations Sideswipe
Classics Bumblebee
