View Full Version : Do you regret selling any of your collection?

Just having a browse over some items in robotkingdom and come across some recent items which I use to own (no longer available of course), but at times where my interest in collecting dwindled and I needed money, I sold off some pieces which I now regret doing.
Specifically for me it would be the Classics Ultra Magnus/Prime two pack along with my original City Commander Set which I sold for maybe $115 on this forum a while ago?
Gosh I miss and loved that set and absolutely regret selling it lol...I don't think it will be possible to re-acquire that set at a reasonable price. Fingers crossed there is a re-issue someday! But then finding a classics Ultra Magnus would defeat the whole purpose.
The secondary market prices on ebay are ridiculous at $400+.
Does anyone else share similar feelings? Or am I in a lonesome boat...cheer me up and share your experiences!

Yea, I kinda regret selling some of it, but desperate times called for desperate measures. I needed the money to live, some things have to be sacrificed in those instances.

Pre-2007 Movie I had a complete G1 Rotorstorm that I bought for $2 at a garage sale, then I sold it for $5.
What about what's going to happen to your collection in 20 years? I might put mine in my own-make shift museum, or if I have really moved on sell all of the it as a hobby.

I regret buying some of my collection, but have no regrets selling any of it. :p
Most of the stuff I've sold are only duplicates, so it doesn't phase me.

Not real regrets (I seldomly sell stuff as I usually only buy stuff I'm interested in).
I do sometimes think about two things I've traded/sold off:
+ My childhood G1 Powerglide. Traded with board member Jhiaxus. I had (still have) another G1 Powerglide, so it was no real loss, and at least I know it went into the hands of a fellow collectors. :)
+ My G1 Perceptor. Sold to board member Rampage after I got the TFC reissue. I'm perfectly happy with my reissue and don't have any real reason to have a G1 Perceptor other than just for the sake of having a G1 Perceptor. I have Magnificus too, which I display in microscope mode -- so I do have two versions of the mould displayed in robot and alt mode. Again, at least I know it's in the hands of a collector. :)

I am trying to think of something but I can't. I guess that I haven't sold anything I value too much.

Agree with that......so much crap I bought for years. Only if I was buying the current items years ago but meh, I dont really care. I would and have been selling off a lot of my Hasbro Transformers for awhile now. Example is all my loose combiners are gone but no regrets in that.

I wouldn't sell any of my collection. Every toy I have I put so much thought behind the purchase that it wouldn't make sense to sell any of it. It would feel like something was missing.

I've bought and sold so much of my collection over the years that it's like the New York stock exchange. Sometimes I've regretted selling things, but usually in those cases I've bought them back again later. Sometimes I've even bought back the very same toy or parts I sold years before in the case of KB Energon Demolishor (to-and-from Mr Dirge), or Action Master Thundercracker accessories (to-and-from Mr Azrael).

I vaguely regret selling off my Beast Machines toys...But I still don't like Beast Machines so it's no huge loss.

Only ones I regret selling off were the RiD train bots.
I did get rid of a lot of Armada and Energon crap a while back. They were the boring lines that put a hiatus on my collecting, so I decided to purge my shelves :D

Maybe not selling - but giving away during my 'I'm too old for this' phase.
I didn't give everything away- I kept my favourites. But now regret giving away some G1s: Wheeljack, Sunstreaker, Action Master Bombshell, etc (in other words some figures that are hard to find now).

I regret selling pieces of my collection, and its never really been about the money. Its just a matter of space (lack of thereof), and some stuff has been sitting in plastic crates in storage for so long that I despair of ever seeing it.
So sometimes I'll cull some of my collection, or open it, but usually its the ones I open and now don't have as MISB or MOSC that i regret most.

I swapped my spare MISB X-9 Ravage for a couple of loose G1 and G2 toys. So when I hear about the ridiculous aftermarket prices this toy's going for now, I sometimes wish that I'd kept it.

$5? I wish! That toy cost about 1750JPY retail, and in the AUD-JPY exchange rate in 1999 meant that I would've paid about $22; an acceptable price for a Deluxe TF, so I bought two so I could keep one sealed, but then I ended up trading my spare sealed one, so now I just have my one loose one.

Nails on an interactive whiteboard! (get with the times dude :p) -- fortunately if you do scrape your nails on an interactive whiteboard it doesn't make the awful sound that they make on a chalkboard. Not that anyone would intentionally scratch an IWB considering how friggin' expensive they are! ;)

I wonder where I got that $5 sum form then?
(Stupid memory synapses! :p)
Either way, you're so lucky to of bought them when you did dude, they're worth literally 100 times that amount now and remain to be the Grail of a few fools... :o

I've had a geriatric relief teacher write on my interactive whiteboard with permanent marker. (Sigh.) Note that the kids were so entertained by this that they didn't stop him.

Never sell toy exclusives or other specially customed toys again because you'll surely regret it! ;) Esp. since its hard to get and expensive.
I have sold TFs which I have duplicates of, loose pieces of OR Movie 1 Toys. I am selective in Movie 2 toys, and and the rest like G1, Henkei, Generations, MPs, Alternities etc, they are all my babies. I'll sell some unwanted LEGO first before I sell my TFs (if I really need the $) :p

I know what one is you nong :p, I was just drawing light to the fact that you can tell the difference between Metro and Regional School funding as my old High School only had 1 Mobile Whiteboard (No Interactivity beyond Textas there) in the entire school, at least that was the case when I paid my last visit in '08-'09. :o

That sounds like the average Class huh? :p:D
Back on track... :o
The only time I've sold or am selling things, is when the items are superfluous to my collection - I wouldn't sell them otherwise so no, no regrets on my behalf. :)

Wow! Last year a casual got told off for using a normal whiteboard marker on an IWB! They managed to clean it off, but if you stare real, real hard you can still see the faint outlines of what he wrote. I can't imagine the damage a permanent marker would do.

Yeah, that's pretty much how I work too. (:
