Wow.... is this an add on for an existing toy, or are they making a completely new figure?

Who is impactor... was he in the wreckers / LSTOW?

Yeah, he's a former leader of the wreckers. As for whether or not this is an add-on, no idea. This is all that has been shown thus far.

Edit: I win Hursti!

LSTOW is the only place I know him from and as for whether it's a complete new figure or just a replacement head for say, I dunno, Straxus/Darkmount? - Is anyone's guess at this point. :)

I pick Generations Warpath to use the head with.

His alt mode is somewhat similar

http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Image:LastStandoftheWreckers5-finishhimoff.jpg

all you would have to do is replace the head and also a harpoon and maybe a cannon.

Ah! - So there are some loose ties between IDW's LSOTW and Marvel's G1 Wreckers is there? - Very intriguing!

I reckon it'll be him or Darkmount/Straxus, but either way, you know if this thing comes with a body it'll no doubt be a straight KO with slight retool. :p

I'd say Darkmount/Straxus as well, seems more fitting. Now I just have to find another one and repaint it and wait for my head :p

In this case I'd say they're more than loose, since Nick Roche and James Roberts grew up on Marvel UK and have been writing and drawing TFUK fanfic for years (and IDW writer Furman invented the Wreckers.)

That head looks great.

As Sky Shadow mentioned, it's much more than loose ties. If you read the Marvel UK stories involving Impactor and then you read LSOTW, you will noticed lots of tributes and easter eggs making references to those Marvel issues.

Would definitely be interested in a full figure- from what I garnered from TFW it seems Igear posted up a banner of all the Wreckers from LSTOW sometime ago- kup was first to be done off the list... I guess they will eventually do the entire crew.

This might be their big "bomb" they mentioned -to win over the fans...

I have a warpath in front of me. The engineering is very similar but the mold is not. This isn't a straight rip-off like the MP coneheads or Bumblebee, the sculpt was made from scratch.

Mold sculpted details are completely different, the only thing similar is the engineering, otherwise it's all original parts.

Ahh ok. On first glance it did resemble warpath in the chest, thighs, and arms. But if it is that different from warpath, makes the decision alot easier for me. :D

Pending price, QC and final product, this is so bought.

Based on that render, completely new figure but with almost the same engineering as Warpath so the toy would transform in a very similar manner.

So between this guy, Ironhide and the Kup heads,is this Igears new nicked from IDW line, or even the unofficial Roche line?

Since they have the complete prototype and it looks final, we now know that this project is real and we'll eventually see a release!

I can't wait! This year is becoming a bit 3rd party dominant for me unless Hasbro picks up their game with the incoming Generations.

The use of the "not-autobot" logo could be the straw that breaks the camels back for igear and Hastak.
They could have gotten away with producing this, but using the logo demonstrates the product is part of the Hasbro Autobot line (rather than just a transforming robot). This is a true breach of trademark and copyright. Warpath design cues, autobot symbols, using a IDW licenced product. What an intellectual property lawyer's field day.

Secondly, FYI (cause I am unsure the US gets it), their updates are done via Facebook. Facebook isn't available in China, but its available in Hong Kong. Igear are based in HK, with factories in China. The reason why Hasbro havent gone after them is because the items are shipped from China.

I agree, as good as this figure is it crosses the line when it really shouldn't have to as all they had to do was omit the Autobot logo. It was actually rather cocky of them to include it, almost daring Hasbro to do something. The sculpted Autobot logo may not make it a 'KO' but it does literally mark it as Intellectual Property theft without the benefit of regular 3rd party ambiguity.

Anyways, I will still buy the figure as this is a character that Hasbro would likely never do and if they ever did, it would not likely be anywhere near as good. Plus if Hasbro doesn't care to police their own IP, why should I care?

Yeah, not cool indeed. I love the idea of third party manufacters doing an homage to characters like this, especially when they do innovative designs like notinsects. If a fan wants to stick an autobot or con logo on it, that's his or her right. But coming with it already on, not good. And its so unneccessary anyway - it would have been an awesome product in its own right without the logo.

kup
20th February 2012, 09:07 PM
Upon close inspection, the logo seems to be a stylized hybrid version of the Autobot and Wrecker symbols:

http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc410/LamDX/1329669475_5.png

http://tfwiki.net/w2/images2/f/fe/Symbol_autobot_reg.png http://tfwiki.net/w2/images2/d/d8/Wreckers_symbol.png

Still, a little too close for comfort and an unnecessary risk.

It's a shame that iGear is mostly known for making (or at least being the manufacturing and distribution middleman) for knock off Masterpiece toys, because they (or their clients) can do very good work. Whomever is doing the IDW Wreckers specific stuff seem to be fans, seeing as the Wreckers logo is kind of obscure.

And yeah, I wouldn't expect Hasbro to do a figure of this character. Unless it's another surprise for Walky at this year's BotCon (in the past few years Hasbro has called out Walky specifically in the panels, just before they showed off Universe Hot Shot and Generations Darkmount/Straxus.)

Yeah, his engineering is based on Warpath but it is otherwise a whole new sculpt so he could end up any size - It is not re-using any Warpath parts. Unlike the MP Seekers, Presser is actually a whole new mold that happens to follow similar transformation design to Warpath.

If you check the details, the whole thing is a new sculpt with it's engineering heavily borrowed or 'inspired' by Warpath. My hope is for him to be around the same height as Defender.

It's engineering is not original but I don't think that Hasbro would hold any IP rights to that. Well it's not as if IGear would care anyways.

yeah i've been meaning to do a comparison between the 2 as i did notice a lot of differences but since it hasn't been photographed against any other existing transformers, the original warpath scale is what i had to go by.

It looks to me like they are establishing a $110 price point with the vanbots, which I think is ok for a 3rd party toy that is presumably somewhere between Voyager and Deluxe as long as they pack in lots of nice accessories. In Impactors case he needs a really big gun to be a wrecker, I hope they have something planned.

Anyway time will tell, the Igear Minibots are worthy of their price point, so as long as this toy is around 7 times better then it will be worth the $110 price point.:D

this is not a simple re-tool of warpath, it's freakin rad. takes me back to the good old "target 2006". if i have any complaints - which wouldn't stop me from buying this figure as long as it doesn't try to murder my wallet - it's that the feet seem a bit too large and goofish.
