Since quite a few people are getting this, and it seems quite reasonably priced for what it contains, post up comments (and sample pics if you want), of this item.
At this time, it's being found at Target stores for $29.

Can someone maybe do a review with some pretty pics please?

Picked one up a few days ago, and the first thing I noticed was that the cover was different From the sky blueish cover box - the Australian edition has a dark blue cover and an outer clear plastic cover slip with a big autobot symbol on it.
All the gimmicks shown in the youtube review a there and they're pretty cool. The tech specs repro are of sunstreaker, trailbreaker, inferno, wheeljack, smokescreen, the animation cell is nifty, the movie poster is cool too with grittier artwork, the Hot Rod bio is an interesting read as well.
It gives a good overview of the toyline from diaclone to now and has some good pics of prototypes, design drawings etc. (my fave is the pic of the prototype unicron from 1986/7).
It gives a pretty good outline of the transformers story in comics, TV! Big screen and video games (that whacky c64 version brought back memories of frustration!).
The foreword by Peter Cullen and the afterword are nice touches, and there's loads of great artwork from all different continuities and media and was a must buy for me from when I first saw it on bbts a few months ago, but I'm a book person.
This book contained mo than just good pictures and anecdotes for me, it triggered the sensation of being a kid again and reliving the experience watching the TV series, buying the toys reading the comics.
The only downside is that it doesn't go into detail about any one continuity, but there's still heaps of detail in there. I give it 9/10 and don't regret for a second dropping $29 at Target for it.

Target man, Target, Blacktown has a few more just keep looking around as they're not really well publicized nor placed in conspicuous place. I had to go around the book sections 3 times before I spotted it, by looking down, instead of looking at the shelves. Parramatta might have some.

Bought one from Blacktown target today. Had a browse through it as I was on the train afterwards and was getting a headache trying to read the foreword; but flicking through the book, it seems to be targetting the 'general Joe average' audience and assuming that people know nothing about Transformers. Which is fair enough, but I think for fans like me, it doesn't really tell me much that I didn't know before. The only new thing I learned from it was the "Blaster" prototype for Microman that would basically be Soundwave as a radiocassette player (instead of a walkman).
The Easter Eggs are nice. Overall I'm quite happy with the book, it's a neat reference book, but I think people who are less Transformers savvy might get more out if it (as they would be the target audience anyway). So I'd highly recommend it for people with a relatively lesser knowledge of TF history and lore, just to get you up to speed... but for the rest of us: well, the book isn't shrink wrapped, so feel free to browse through it before making a final purchase decision.
It's a good book to show to Heathens non-transfans when they come around. :)

I do like some of the old school memorabilia pictured there. Like the box for "Mystery of Convoy" and the S.T.A.R.S. iron-on patch and membership card. They all brought back memories! :) I've long lost my old jacket with the iron-on patch (most likely been chucked out), and my S.T.A.R.S. membership card got wrecked when I accidentally left my Transformers wallet in my clothes and it went through the wash... eep! :( Some of the pull out goodies are really nice, like repro G1 tech specs and miniature repro animation cel etc. ;) And it's hardcover with a protective plastic case too! :)

The front plastic cover has the Autobot logo on a greyish background.
I haven't really read the book but just browsed through it. Really love some of the vintage items they have included within the book like instruction sheet, stat cards, drawings / sketches etc.

If so, that does look cool. Though I like the painted hand over the clear, and the green eyes, I think I still prefer the Takara version. But I will have to wait until I buy the book myself to have a better look.

Robzy's Rant:
"No More Disguises"
The Vault is here! The Vault has been opened! Time to review it...
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk199/sunglikeahorse/TFBook.jpg
Yes indeed, here is a photo review (and I'm not kidding about the photos) of the new Transformers Vault by Pablo Hidalgo. This book is chock-full of amazing pics and information about the history of Transformers. I got mine at Target for around $29, and I definitely think it's worth the price. If you already own the 'Transformers Ultimate Guide', like I do, you may already know most of the G1/Beast Wars elements but it's still interesting nonetheless. That Ultimate Guide is somewhat out-dated now (in regard to the newer cartoons and movies), so it makes this new book a very worthy purchase. For newbies, this is a must buy!
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk199/sunglikeahorse/TFBook1.jpg
First of all, the presentation... The book comes in a clear plastic cover that has the Autobot symbol and Optimus Prime on the back. Slip that off, and you have the Decepticons' logo and Megatron on the back. Fairly straight forward but a nice touch.
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk199/sunglikeahorse/TFBook2.jpg
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk199/sunglikeahorse/TFBook3.jpg
Inside, we are first greeted by a Foreword by Peter Cullen himself. Again, nothing strikingly new, but it's great to read.
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk199/sunglikeahorse/TFBook4.jpg
Now that the Vault is truly opened, we get a history of where it all started... the toys! There's some excellent pictures of the toys from G1 to movie-verse.
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk199/sunglikeahorse/TFBook5.jpg
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk199/sunglikeahorse/TFBook6.jpg
Also included are a number of images of toy artwork, conceptual artwork and Japanese exclusive prototypes. We also get a little pull out Toy Catalogue and some Tech Specs with Red Decoder.

Next up, the Comics get the treatment. This section is not quite as large, but still fascinating!
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk199/sunglikeahorse/TFBook-14.jpg
Included is a pull out sketch by IDW's Casey Coller...
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk199/sunglikeahorse/TFBook-16.jpg
This is followed by the history of Transformers on TV. Lots of great info and pics, as well as 2 Posters, one of which you can take out (the Japanese version), for the original 1986 animated movie (TF:TM). There's also a previously unseen character profile of Hot Rod from the film. This section also includes a mini animation film cell from the G1 TV show. The chapter covers all the TV shows, including Beast Wars, The Unicron Trilogy, TF: Animated, and TF: Prime, extensively.
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk199/sunglikeahorse/TFBook-17.jpg
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk199/sunglikeahorse/TFBook-18.jpg
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk199/sunglikeahorse/TFBook-19.jpg
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk199/sunglikeahorse/TFBook-20.jpg
Now, on to the films. This section is quite small, but gives some insight to the 3 (at this Review's time) live action movies. Included is a 'Screening Ticket' to see 'Revenge of the Fallen' at Mann Village Theatre on July 22, 2009... all I need now is a Time Machine :D
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk199/sunglikeahorse/TFBook-22.jpg
And at the very end, we have the Future... what lies ahead for Transformers? What are Hasbro's plans? Will there be more TF movies without Michael Bay? This last section is very short, and mainly deals with 'War for Cybertron', setting it up as the next direction the Transformers brand will be heading towards.

http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk199/sunglikeahorse/TFBook-24.jpg
Overall, it all makes for fascinating reading... not to mention a superb coffee table book.
Robzy's last word: Highly recommended!

Don't waste your time and money buying any of the Keepers Trilogy novels... I have the first book and it's complete rubbish (I can't decide which is more poorly written; Hardwired or Twilight - the fact that I'm comparing this book with Twilight should indicate how crap the writing is!). I never bothered buying or reading the sequels to Hardwired... don't intend to. I've read synposes of their stories... that was quite enough.
The Marvel G1 comics are definitely worth collecting IMO. Extremely highly recommended. :) (and as others have noted, there are exerpts and info about the G1 comics in the TF Vault book :D)

1AZRAEL1: At Target Blacktown you need to look hard because they're shelved in a silly location. It's on a small "island" shelf set near the aisle where they display new books, but it's toward the bottom and rear. They're stacked horizontally too, so they don't stand out, and if someone puts another book on top of it, you can miss the entire stack (as I nearly did). So you may need to have a good search.
Good luck :)

lol Gok. Awesome. My 2 1/2 year old daughter loves flicking through my books, so the graphic novels are kept high and dry and comics boxed away from sticky fingers!!! They're so dangerous these little kids! ;)
Btw, I really enjoyed the Vault. Flicked through it a couple of times and plan to read through it a bit later this week.
Great images and inserts though and for $29 it's a bargain price for a TF fan. I agree with others that perhaps it's not too much "new" for longterm fans, but still it's put together very well.

And the sad reality is with the demise of the 'bricks and mortar' stores (R.I.P. Borders), unless you shop online, you'll have no choice but to hack-n-slash your way through their book section. And if you can't find what you're looking for e.g. "If it's not on the shelf", they probably don't have it but you'll never know for sure because no one will help you.

Anyway, it's a good "coffee table" book; arguably better than "Transformers And Philosophy" (which was also meant to be a coffee table book). And it's a more enjoyable read than the latter too (far more relevant to Transformers for sure! So hated the whole <blah blah philosophy blah blah blah transformers blah blah irrelevant-to-Transformers-philosophical-rantage blah blah blah> Some of that book was interesting to read, but a whole lot of it wasn't! Yeah, for that price you do get a lot of bang for your buck. :) I agree that it lacks depth from a fan's POV - but I guess we're not the real target demographic for this book. I think it's more for people with a casual interest in Transformers as a coffee table book, and in that regard it's chock-full of information from a mundaner's POV.
If you seriously want something more in-depth for fans, and if you can read Japanese, I'd recommend getting either Transformers Generations and Transformers Generations Deluxe. There are similar publications in English, but I don't own them so I can't really comment. :o

Seems there is a US/UK version (the blue prime and Megatron cover) and an Australian variant (witht he faction logos). Perhaps it is because of different publishers?
I ordered mine online since no local targets were carrying it, so I should get the same version as Banno. When I do I'll post up the publishers details,a nd if someone who has the target version can do the same we can see if they are different.

I have both and from memory, they are different. I'd have to check when I am home though.

Well that version that I have is published by Abrams! Now all we need is someone with the target version to let us know who published that. :D

Ice Water Press, which is a Melbourne based company (printed in China though... probably at the same place as the US/UK version).
Still seems odd though that they felt it needed a different cover. But I'm glad they didn't appear to change anything else, or gut any of the features (hopefully), including the Hard Cover.

As annoying as it is, I'm considering buying the Target version too, so I have both! Luckily it isn't selling for as much.

I picked this up last week, I was so excited when I spotted it at my local Target. $29 is a great price for a large, hardcover book. I've certainly paid at lot more for books this nice.

This pretty much sums up my thoughts on the book as well. I'm too die-hard fanatic to learn much new, but it's nicely presented. I think it's the book you give someone who remembers the G1 cartoon and the Michael Bay films and get them to read it so they can appreciate how more, much more, there is to the franchise.

Well I gave one away to TFPH for a raffle, while they were scanning it ( it wasnt released yet in Phils - not sure if they'll get a release there) most of the members and some passersby (not all were TF fans) who saw it in the Toycon had nothing but positive remarks and questions of - where can i get one? So it is a very good book and a good bargain for that price, Im thinking of getting a few more and give em away as gifts when I come back in two years time. Makes a nice coffee table book.

I know this is like...a month since the last post here (sorry!) but I was wondering if this book can still be found in Targets around Sydney?

Not so sure, you might still find it in some Targets as it wasn't usually displayed quite well - as in hard to locate among the shelves. You might chance upon one still, you never know.

A good mate of mine's missus got him this for his birthday. I had a leaf through and it's quite a nice piece.
I don't think he'll appreciate it much, he's more a Star Wars man but then I suppose as a gift it was just filler after the Taylor Swift signed picture she got him.

I could be mistaken, but I think the Target at Castle Hill still had a few copies left last week ($29), I didn't get to look to see if they were still there yesterday
