Just wondering if anyone has had any experience in converting VHS tape to dvds? Seen a few videos on how to do it on YouTube. And was wondering if anyone has done it at home and what programs to use

JB-Hi Fi sell this nifty device - http://www.kaiserbaas.com/_literature_54958/Video_to_DVD_Maker_Brochure

I have one and it costs $80. It's pretty simple, plug the normal vga cables into your vhs/dvd player that then comes out through the USB and into the computer. There's probably better devices out there but this one did it's job - only complaint is the software it comes with - Cyberlink Powerdirector (which you need to capture the video) and Cyberlink PowerProducer (which is just your average dvd-designing program, you could use other programs to burn a DVD)

Here's a review on it:

Good luck mate

I use my HDD/DVD recorder (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?t=6265). I'd like to do the next step and convert DVD content to DivX so I can backup my discs and format-shift to watch stuff on my phone, but I can't find any (PC) software that'll do it nicely.

I use my vcr/dvd combo to record my old vhs tapes to dvd but if the tape is old then the quality isn't that fantastic.

Yeah thats what I did. And before that when its just a DVD recorder ond not a combo I just connected a VCR to the DVD Recorder to do it.

Like a few others here, I have a DVD HD which I link up to my old VCR using RCA jacks. If I want to get fancy, I'll then transfer it onto the PC to add menus / music. I use both Nero and Movie Maker for this.
