OMG I'm so drooling over the new LEGO Harry Potter sets! Esp. Diagon Alley.

Sorry! :o Glad Target's sale is about a month later. Gives us time for another pay week to come and to grab those TFs we missed in the Kmart / Big W sales.

It looks good, but too pricey for me! I'll grab the spongebob sets for the missus for certain, not going to leave getting them until later again!

Looks like a decent sale in Target this year, last years was pretty dismal from memory.

Very impressive on TFs. BigW didn't beat them by very much.

I want the two large new Alien Conquest Legos. A mate showed them to me and I didn't know they were even coming. Been really excited ever since.

That large Harry Potter one looks really, really nice. I will probably get that. Will check out some reviews later but it looks gorgeously built. I just hope the individual buildings are wholesome which is what I have against a lot of these sets. They look nice on the box but when built, they feel fragile and just very empty

I was hoping to grab them all for around Deluxe or Scout price. F--- me that's an expensive tot's toy. I hope they are big at least.

Those are expensive... as bad as the mainline toys.

The Bumblebee set for $49 is priced at US$20 in America.
While the Electronic figure priced at $59 is US$25 in America.

And since it wouldn't have much fan-demand, these might be tough to find online, and if they are listed somewhere, they won't be close to US retail. :(

Legion Bumblebee with Commander Ironhide 2pk - $19

I think you got the packs wrong

It should be

Legion Bumblebee with Commander Megatron 2pk - $19

Something interesting to note is that they have not mentioned the

Legion Leadfoot (with Target markings) with Commander Ironhide (blue). Will this remain at $30

I bought both of these at Chermside Target a few weeks ago and dumb me lost the receipts

I saw these today at Targets I visited.

The price points I believe are justified based on the size of the toys. Heatwave (the firetruck) and the police car are huge. They're bigger for sure than Voyagers though they doh't transform.

The BB is also quite large. So they are quite well-priced (not to mention cute).

Also saw the human accessory ones too which aren't in the catalogue. They're smaller and don't transform but are like mini battle pods that will attach to the transforming ones.

That said, as cute as they look, none of them transform. Where are the ones that transform? Cos those are the ones I want.

Just hoping to be able to go in the night before the crazy rush, Targets never have many lego sets in stock! :D

It has always bugged me as to why Target claims they have Australia's biggest toy sale, so I rang up and asked. Official response - "it's just a marketing thing".
Seems a bit deceptive if they are throwing around quantitative terms like that, without some sort of parameter to back it up.
I asked, is it 'biggest' in terms of number of toys, amount of stock, the number of stores... "Um, nup, it's just a marketing thing".
Sounds like false advertising to me, during the BigW & Kmart sales - just to have parents think that if they wait a month before fighting the crowds at the shopping centre, this "bigger" sale will be better for them.

(only two days to go until I have to fight those crowds :( )

I asked... and they said no. The prices are effective from midnight, and they have on their website the stores that will be open at midnight for the sale.

Unfortunately you'd have to click on every store on their store locator page (http://target.dynamiccatalogue.com.au/portal/storelocator) to see which one is open at midnight (doesn't look like any in Brisbane will be). If only a few stores were going to be open for this, they should at least list them on their toysale page.

Thanks Bossbot, it's a shame, I have neither the urge nor inclination to attend midnight sales anymore, dealing with 25+ 8 year olds after a night of little sleep is not appealing! :p
Might just try to dash in at 6am or something then, thats when there is usually a lull at these things.

-EDIT- Mt Druitt, Rouse Hill and Penrith all open at Midnight for any Western Sydneysiders, 8am to midnight hours for other Western Sydney stores.

An interesting note on the 'Australia's Biggest Toy Sale':
The Target in Bendigo actually seems to be going all out for this one. Most (if not all) of the stock is already on the floors (just not at sale prices yet) which has more than doubled the size of thier toy department. I think that shows a level of commitment we usually don't see from Target.

Same as Target Rockingham. They have lots of stuff all over the place so if you cant find it in one spot, walk around and you might find it somewhere else. I'm glad I dont want anything so I will be staying away from that place for awhile. Only Tuesday and the screaming kids are already going at it.

And other stores don't use slogans and phrases to lure in customers? Its essentially how most stores sell products. The general public are idiots. If you had two individual products and told them that one was better than the other because it was a different color the majority would believe you, no questions asked. When your dealing with people like that why wouldnt retailers make unproven marketing phrases? I'm not saying its right, but the majority of the time it works. As for parents thinking they have to wait a month for supposedly better prices, the target catalogue was out weeks ago (while both bigw and kmarts sales are still on) If saving money was so important to people surely theyd check the catalogues of all three stores to see where the best buys are.

midnight. I dont know many stores open from then though. IF a store is in a westfield or similar shopping center they normally dont open at midnight because then westfield has to stay open, and if the westfield is near houses or units theres some law about noise or something (its complicated and i dont understand it completely) but from what ive been told most of the midnight opening stores will be ones that are in more secluded areas.

I have been into Targets and Big W's and KMarts in th past, the evening before a sale and picked up items at the sale price. If you're really keen and there's a store close by it might be worth trying. though they may have streamlined their system to start at midnight specifically.

never know till you try. :D

Boasts of the biggest / bests are mere puffery

Just like everytime you go to a new car dealership, they always boast that they are Australia's #1 Ford/Holden/Toyota/Mazda/Nissan dealer

What a crock of sh-t....

Yes,Target has extended it until 10 August. Probably realized they need to still shift 20000 Jetwing Primes and 10000 voyager Optimus Primes that have not sold!!

It could just be my store, but we've already sold 70% of the Jetwing Primes which, considering the price and the fact that every other retailer had them before us, is pretty impressive. It's more to do with the general softness in retail sales atm, which are due to a combination of people spending less in general (the reasons for which are explained more eloquently and succinctly than I could ever do, here (http://www.smh.com.au/business/baby-boomers-wealth-effect-hits-the-retailers-20110731-1i6dh.html)) and the fact that our dollar is unusually high due to the combined factors of uncertainty in buying US dollars and an interst in buying AUD due to the current mining boom.

Additionally, Aussie retailers face a whole bunch of other associated costs such as higher costs of employing people, huge rent costs charged by the big property holders (Westfield, etc), and facing cost prices for goods larger than what US stores would charge as retail price. Many of these things are structural and can't be changed in the space of weeks and months (particularly as rent contracts run for years and minimum wages are governed by law). Therfore, in the short term, Aussies go online to take advantage of the high dollar, often buying goods at below what Aussie retailers could legitimately offer in order to have enough money to meet their basic requirements.

What's required is a structural shift, but that won't come in the short term.

That was a longer than expected reply, but I get a bit frustrated when people complain that their every whim isn't met the instant that they want it, or laugh at stores for aiming to buy enough product to meet demand (particularly when those same people usually complain mercilessly when the item runs out).

Are people allowed to be complain/be frustrated if the toy they're looking for never made it into Aussie retailers?

griffin
2nd August 2011, 05:58 PM
Yes, as long as it is 'on topic' to something that relates to it, like a toy review topic or a news topic about it (if it is known to not be coming here). If there is no toy review topic, create one and then complain (plus it's preferable to comment on the toy itself as well).

They can be frustrated and they can complain. But most retailers have buyers who choose what stock their going to be sending into their stores and what they wont. Supply and demand comes into play a lot too, as well as how much stock certain districts still have. eg if a district of stores still has high quantities of a product eg transformers toys, then they aren't going to be allocated more.

Of course if you want to lodge a complaint or compliment to your store then you can do so online and in most stores:
