Been a while since I logged in so hi to all that know me and hi to those that don’t. I cant believe the poor visual quality of the DOTM movie toys. Went to TRU today at least expecting to buy 1 but couldn’t bring myself to it. They looked shocking. I’m lost for words. I’m so glad I bought most of mine on the original movie series.Im a mint in box collector and a g1 collector. I would like to see what you all think also and if you recomend anything i may not have seen as yet that is a quality unit. Only thing i saw today that caught my eye was a non dotm toy. The clear version starscream for $249 mmmm tempting.

There is a clear downsizing in the DOTM line, in plastic mass terms, and the paints apps are highly lacking also. :(
Apart from the 3 Soundwave figures yet to be released, I have only a total of 4 maybe 5 figures that I'm even interested in and 2 I've already bought. :o
I suppose it leaves money for other things I'm trying to get though, so it's not all negative. :p

Actually, I find that on the whole, DotM has given us some really amazing toys - arguably the best we've seen in the movie line.
For example:
+ DotM Voyager Megatron: Absolutely amazing figure and the best of the movie Megatron toys ever made - even better than the previous Leader toys and at half the RRP!
+ DotM Voyager Shockwave: A very well designed toy despite not having an Earthen alt mode.
+ DotM Commander Class Powerglide: A neat little Scout sized figure, even if the RRP is a bit pricey.
+ DotM Commander Class Sentinel Prime: Unlike Powerglide is based on a complex movie model. It manages to work well in both modes considering its size.
I must say that I've been impressed with the DotM line as a whole. The only figures that have disappointed me so far have been Skids (epic fail of a figure) and Sideswipe (not terrible, but pretty underwhelming all the same).
Don't judge a book by it's cover -- there's more to the DotM toy line than meets the eye. :)

Really?
i found shockwave barely able to generate the slightest "meh" out of me. it failed to impress and i nabbed it for under 20 bux.....it felt like it was lacking in so many ways.
powerglide is a good little figure, infact i have like more of the cyberverse line than most of the larger counterparts...

I would have to agree with Sharky in regards to the Cyberverse line, if I didn't own any Movie figures I'd be starting and staying with that line but alas - I'll just stick with my pretty cool Ark playset. :D
(Roller is awesome, even if he isn't too articulate ;))
Out of the hordes of DOTM figures released so far and are yet to come, these are the only ones I'm interested in:
Leader Class - Sentinel Prime
Human Alliance - Soundwave w/ Laserbeak
Voyager Class - Shockwave*
Deluxe Class - Soundwave
Commander Class - Guzzle
Commander Class - Hatchet
Legion Class - Soundwave
Cyberverse - Ark Playset w/ Roller*
* Currently own and love. :)
...Otherwise, none of the other figures really appeal to me at all. :o

DOTM Legion Bumblebee and Starscream have a grippy hand (to hold a gun or something), but it's only one hand, looks weird. :/ Yeah, not really interested in DOTM toys apart from Hatchet, Guzzle, Powerglide and some repaints from the other movies. Movie TFs are so ugly. :p

I find Roadbuster to be a pretty decent toy, although the amounts of grey bothers some people (I don't mind it though). Bumblebee is also pretty neat in terms of better screen-accuracy, although engineering wise I still prefer TF1 Deluxe Concept Bumblebee. Although technically DotM Deluxe Bumblebee is a retool of Battle Blade Bumblebee.
DotM Deluxe Ratchet was also better than I expected in some ways. Initially I thought he might've been a repaint of ROTF Deluxe Ratchet, but he's actually an entire new mould (afaik). In some ways not as elegant or complex as ROTF DLX Ratchet; but I find the design to be simple yet effective. The transformation isn't as fiddly and there are still some clever elements to it - and the vehicle mode doesn't carry as much robot kibble in the undercarriage as ROTF DLX Ratchet does, which allows the wheels to roll more freely. He also has three Mech Tech ports allowing Ratchet to be armed with 3 weapons in vehicle mode or 5 in robot mode (holding 2 more weapons in each fist). The main drawback with the toy is that the vehicle kibble on the back of the robot doesn't fold in as tightly as on ROTF DLX Ratchet.
Oh yeah, the Mech Tech ports are all compatible with the Universal 5mm Post, so any 5mm post weapon can be inserted into a Mech Tech port! (except for the clip-on ports on Jetwing Prime, although he has 5mm ports too)
Laserbeak is... okay. Well, he's a lot better than say Ravage or Scorponok - and I think Hasbro just went and gave him a non-screen alt mode because, let's face it, he just transforms into too much stuff in the movie for Hastak to really engineer into a single Deluxe size toy! :o So for a movie "Minion-former" I think he's quite good.
Cyberverse Ark w/ Roller's quite nice as a playset - but no way it's worth $60 (glad I got it on sale for $34). Cyberverse Optimus Prime w/ trailer and Starscream w/ Orbital Assault Carrier were both really disappointing though -- the former feels like a freakin' KO. I'm just using it as a placeholder until I can get a gooderer version of DotM Prime w/ trailer. (-_-) And Starscream I just got after watching the movie for the vehicle... which isn't even that well designed. And the Starscream figure itself doesn't impress me one iota. By current day standards I'm not that impressed with the Cyberverse playsets... the G1 Micromasters had better playsets (and were relatively cheaper too). Although at least Cyberverse doesn't have all kinds of little accessories and ramps to lose!
*shrug* At the end of the day, if the DotM toys don't appeal to you, just don't buy them. ;) :p

I don't think there any worse or better then previous lines. My only gripe is some feel 'cheaper' then other toys and while the mechtech weapons are cool I prefer more screen accurate for my movie collection and so far the only toys who hold their weapons on the shelf are Sentinel Prime and Shockwave.
I'm only getting the toys that appear in the movie as well as the Cyberverse playsets and any that would fit on my classics shelf. Also the Human Alliance toys and all incarnations of Soundwave and Laserbeak.

Hey gok how are you? You must be running out of room by now for your tf collection or at least renting out a storage shed lol. Yeah not a big fan as yet but something might grow on me in the tf3 range. Its amazing how much tf2 stuff i saw sitting on the shelf at tru today. As a mainly mint in box collector the first thing I look for is detail. Because of this it makes it hard for a toy to grow on me by playing with it. I think its great gok that some one like your self can see the good in most tf series and still play with them. I guess im a little bias as the old di cast g1 's I love and keep compairing to these plastic fantastics.

Out of the Hasbro line I've only gotten Leader Sentinel, Deluxe Skids and Mudflap, Voyager Megs and Leader Ironhide. I got Takara's Jetwing Prime also.
Ironhide is going to be my first repaint project after I get some practice on lesser formers. Despite his small size Megatron is a really nice figure. I personally like the Twins design (but the characters still suck). Sentinel is clearly missing paint apps when you compare the finished product to the Hasbro publicity shots. Jetwing Prime is without a doubt the best thing in the DOTM line but he doesn't really count as he is a Japanese exclusive remold of a ROTF figure.
I'm looking for Sideswipe to practice my repainting on, I want a Deluxe Topspin and Voyager Shockwave, they look awesome. But thats all from the currently seen line of toys I want to pick up. And I will reserve judgement on the Soundwave's till I see them cause for all we know they might be crap.

i love the new toys for DOTM, i love the mech tech weapons, great new addition, a gimmick that actually adds to figure instead of gets in the way of it.
while i love all things tf movie, the 1 thing i am very disappointed in is the lack of toys for this line. mostly speaking of the mech tech main line.
what we've got so far has been great, but in numbers, its nowhere near the number of figures we got for ROTF. in the month or so since dotm figures came out, ive spent at least half of what i did on the first 2 movies in the same time frame.
does anyone else get the same feeling?

I would have preferred the plastic in those Mech-Tech guns to go into the figure. All the sets have a set amount of plastic in them and that dictates how big or small the figure is. More plastic in the figure would mean less in the gun would mean larger figures.

One thing that sh-ts me about the mech tech weapons is that they don't stay in place - like deluxe Optimus's gun/axe weapon - you can't display the weapon in axe mode, its pretty much stuck in gun mode unless you hold the trigger in place. It would've been nice if they'd taken the spring mechanism out so you can display the weapons in either mode. Same problem applies to Barricade's gun/claw weapon, Sideswipe's gun/blade weapon and so on.

Some Mech Tech weapons can lock in deployed position -- but yeah, not all of them can, which is annoying. Especially with melee weapons, because you can't even play with them properly when you need to have one hand constantly on the trigger. *sigh*

I heard that the reason why the figures are a bit smaller is because of increasing cost of oil/petrol (and hence increased cost of plastic manufacture).

true, i do agree with that. however, i really do have to say, i love the mechtech weapons. if they were able to product the same size figure as the previous lines and still have the weapon, id pay more, but thats just me.

I'm not so much dissapointed with this line as I'm satisfied with what I already have. I have the sentinel leader, Crankcase, powerglide, Human Alliance Green Wrecker and Voyager Megs. they are filling out the collection, I'll definitely be getting Ironhide. though with Ironhide and Sentinel, it's tempting to wait and see if there are any sweet chromed up repaints released like the buster prime we got here.
You are going to be hard pressed to beat the rotf leader prime, and any of the ROTF Human Alliance figures I think, so for me those characters are already spoken for. Some of the smaller Human alliance figures are great, like the snow mobile, it's nice to see some distinctly different vehicles.
I don't particularly care for the mechtek stuff but it doesn't particularly detract either.
I am keen to see what gets announced at the SDCC. that will guide the rest of my purchasing decisions.

From what we've seen so far all I'm interested in are
- Wreckers at HA size, pending announcement of Top Spin at that scale (otherwise I'm just getting Roadbuster).
- Hatchet, Guzzle, Powerglide at that Cyberverse Commander (?) sizepoint
From what's been confirmed but not shown yet I really want HA Soundwave
Finally, I'm really really really hoping that they make a good Dino figure, preferably at the Deluxe and also HA size points. I dig the design, the 458, the colours. I need Dino to have a good toy.
Everything else is middle of the road, save Deluxe Topspin who to be fair is a cracking deluxe figure. Roadbuster at that size point is fairly good as well. Vyager Megatron is the best movie Megatron yet although that's basically tantamount to being the least gammy in a pack of lepers. Skyhammer was one that I thought I'd enjoy a lot more than I did. Starscream and Jolt were kind of disappointing. No other DotM figure has tempted me yet - I was considering Shockwave and might pick him up on a whim if I see him but that's it really.
What convention is it that we get to see more toys?

Well, So far, I have quite a few only in my list of "to-buy" from the line.
1) Powerglide -I have already but feel cheated with the pricepoint. Then I see the price in Phils, for it AJh%^E@%^%@&@$&^%@. Should've waited.
2) Shockwave - dont have it yet. Decooompooooooooooossse!! hehehehe
3) Guzzle - from what Ive seen in the Tf news posted all over forums it'll fit right in with my Classicverse shelf so Im definitely getting that. Dont have it yet.
4) Laserbeak - Well I got Ravage, Scorponok and Frenzy might as well get this little minion too. At least he appeared in the movie several times. Don't have it yet.
5) Hatchet - it's something different and I don't have this yet as well.
MIGHT get if the price is really cheap
Sentinel Prime - Im pretty sure it'll go down sooner or later:p
Im dissapointed with the downsizing and cheaper look that this toy line has gone to, that is why I won't be buying a lot of them. They simply don't look appealing to me:rolleyes: and I feel cheated paying for such downsized toys at same pricepoint for the sizing class they "claim" to be, when obviously it's just the boxes/packaging that makes them such and such size class.

The thing that bugs me most is the inconsistency with Wreckers...
let's see:
Wreckers Name: | Size Class | Armored? |
Topspin | Legion | NO
Roadbuster | Legion | ??? |
Leadfoot | Legion | YES |
Topspin | Deluxe | YES
Roadbuster | Deluxe | NO |
Leadfoot | Deluxe | ??? |
Topspin | HA | ????
Roadbuster | HA | YES |
Leadfoot | HA | NO |
What the hell Hasbro, can't we get at least one class with fully armored cars?!?!?! SHEESH!!

I'm also pretty underwhelmed at the DOTM toys, probably because I already have toys from the first two movies and frankly there isn't a better Bumblebee than Battle Blade Bumblebee ditto for for the Two pack version of Buster Optimus Prime. Certainly I'm getting the characters I don't have and I'm very impressed with Skyhammer, but the others aren't as impressive to me. Maybe I'm just getting old.

I'm after a full set of un-armoured wreckers. prefereably in the HA size. looks like neither of us is going to be satisfied in the near future.:(

i didn't collect the previous 2 movie lines but the cost-cutting annoys me.
the unpainted sideswipe bothers me the most but the other significant thing is the sound chips inside leader class figures.
I had a look at Lightning Power Thor (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixR0GM0X0IM) and it has 7 phrases! and only costs $49 ($24 during the target sale)
I'm testing Ironhide and he has 2 phrases, 1 chest cannon sound and 2 car sounds (the second one i'm unsure how to get it to play 100%)
It makes me feel so ripped off.

I'm inclined to agree Kaiden but more-so with regards to TF voice-chips in general as they've barely moved past: "Megatron Attack!".
Leader Class Sentinel Prime has 3 phrases and 2 sound effects, but 2 of those phrases and 1 of those sound effects are only accessibly when you plug in a MechTech Gun/Weapon from another figure as his own weapons are unable to plug into the port without removing his head!?!:rolleyes:

Just got the Flash Freeze Assault set by DOTM, and as the bio suggests the human, Sergeant Chaos and the Basic HA figure Ice-Pick are out to kill Sideswipe who is without his HA character. Yet, for some reason Ice-Pick is featured to have Autobot symbols, even with a big 'AUTOBOT ALLAINCE' decal on the side of him and on the back of the package all 3 are working together...
