Just wondering...

How much did the early binaltech cost when it first came out>? i was just browsing through ebay.... price is way up there.

Am considering whether to start buying them along with the upcoming ones. Any comment from you guys? What's your experience/love/hate for binaltech>?

Thanx guys!

I'm a late comer to Transformers collecting and started off with Binaltechs.
It is believed to be about US$50+ due to its die-cast material...

Checkout the old Binaltech site (http://www.takaratomy.co.jp/products/TF/bt/index.html) - they retailed for 5229, i think the new ones are around 5000.

Certain ones always seem to fetch higher prices - Smokescreen, Jazz and Wheeljack tend to be really high. Yellow Tracks seems to be the cheapest and the rest are in between.

I have nothing but love for Binaltech! I started with the models of car i actually liked, design wise... but i loved them so much i ended up buying one i didn't like, the Jeep (Hound). From that point on, i realized i should never underestimate how awesome they'd be! Skids turned out to be one of my favourites, despite his car mode being an average design in real life (at least compared to the sports cars).

With new ones coming out though, i wouldn't go spending heaps on Ebay unless you must have a particular design, as it seems the new releases wont be straight reissues.

Unless you started collecting at the start when they were about US$45 each I dont think it's worth collecting the entire set. BT-17 goes for around US$700 alone and BT-18 is hard to find at a reasonable price too. Maybe either collect Alternators instead or look at collecting one of each BT mold.

Yeah BT are awesome, though they're better on the shelf than as toys.
Because of the die-cast some of the bots are a bit top heavy so I keep them at the back of the shelf or in car mode.

Well that's what I've seen them go for. I thought it was a rip-off when it was $120 - it's the worst BT mold and it's quite heavy too, even though not all of the body is diecast.

Robot Kingdom has BT17 for *just* $599 US (http://robotkingdom.com/services/eshop/main.php?action=details&CatType=Category&II=TFTBT17&lang=us&CatID=1_5)! Bargain

I wouldn't say it's the worst BT mold but it's pretty bad. The AT OP toy was pretty boring and the chest plate looks very transparent if you display it with lights on top or behind the bot mode. The lovely paint job on Kiss Convoy made a huge difference and turned it into a lovely display piece. BT17 is simply crazy. I would say it actually has too much diecast content. :D They really over did it with this one, and it'd be interesting if BT22 will have the same diecast content again.

I would say AT Nemesis Prime actually has more interesting colour in both bot mode and car mode. However, the overall paint job and car like finish, along with the diecast content still make me like the BT17 more.

But Alternators Prime isn't a BT :P If you're going to count Alts then Rumble takes first place for worst mold easily.

Yep, they got it right with Kiss Pla - plastic molds with enamel paints.

BT shipped from Japan at cost would work out around $65-70 back in the day, depending on the exchanges rates at the time.

Funny that Smokescreen fetchs a high price, since he was produced twice.

oh yeah... i realise there were two of smokescreen which looks identical... Whats the deal with that?

Actually, i think there's 4 variations, 2 moulds all up.. the Wikipedia page explains it all (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smokescreen_(Transformers)).

I always forget which one is the most rare! As long as my BT01 No.8 is snug on my shelf, it doesn't bother me :)
