View Full Version : Complete Transformers toy Battery list

Finally, the fan-resource that many have asked for in the past, and one that every fan has been waiting for.

A complete listing of all the Transformers toys that have Electronics, and noting which ones were sold with Batteries already included. ALSO, included are any later version of a figure that had the electronics GUTTED, so you don't have to worry about digging out their batteries.

I did some searching and couldn't find this sort of list anywhere else, so is likely to be another Ozformers exclusive resource available to all fans.
At least, I hope it is useful, as I've been working on it for quite a while now.

GO TO THIS TOPIC to show why Batteries need to be removed, plus some further info & photo examples (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?t=12178).

NOTE - this topic is being left open, so that others can post up details that I haven't added yet. I am slowly going through all of my collection and removing batteries, so haven't added all specific battery/cell details yet. The first step was making up the list by looking over my own toys, so please add any figures I have missed, because I may not have them to know for sure.
(anything with a ??? means I have not yet confirmed that detail, so am hoping others can help)

Since there are so many toys on this list, I have broken it up into sections within this topic, in a rough chronological order.

LEGEND:
I = Batteries ARE Installed inside the toy in the packaging
NI = Batteries are NOT Installed inside the toy in the packaging
AA, AAA, C, D = Common Battery sizes
LR44 = Button Cells used in Transformers toys are referred to as LR44 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LR44_battery) (image at link) but can also be known as A76 or L1154.
LR41 = Tiny Button Cells

EACH YEAR - I will aim to post up an annual listing at around the start of February, to include all of the toys from the previous years that had electronics, and which of those have batteries included.

im just wanting to know peoples opinion in removing batteries from MISB items?

Is it better to sacrifice the sealed to protect electronics or to leave sealed for "sealed" value and repacking originality??

griffin
2nd March 2012, 02:31 AM
The value of the sealed packaging outweighs the assumed contents or their condition. People will pay a premium for a sealed item, often if they intend to keep it sealed themselves... so the actual condition of the item inside ends up being irrelevant. Only if they bought a sealed item to open it, then it would be a factor to them... but if you are investing in sealed figures, keeping them sealed would be the better investment. If you are likely to open it up in the future, then remove the batteries if you want - but be aware that most small battery damage is usually reversible. The large batteries (AA or bigger) can leak a lot more acid, damaging plastic and the more delicate electronics if they are in the path of the acid (gravity).

Thanks to Deonasis, added Universe Ramjet (white/blue redeco of Armada Starscream).

I will update this list annually, close to the "Remove your Batteries Day" which was proposed to be held November 1st every year (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?t=12178) (I can do up the annual update of all the new electronic toys for the year in this topic, and email it out as a reminder to members as well).

The Annual Battery Removal day has been moved from November 1st to February 1st, to allow me to include all toys from that calendar year.

Getting this year's done with a couple weeks to spare, this gives people time to go through their collection for any 2012 toys, plus any older ones they obtained during the last year.

Have I left anything out? And, if you see something on the list with a question mark that you know, please let me know.

At least there were only 5 in Gen1 (7 if you count the two Euro Actionmsters).

None came with batteries?

I still have ?'s on the Gen1 part of the list, but haven't had anyone willing to clarify it yet. I know all of them were inside solid boxes, so had no need for batteries in them (no try-me features), but left those as unknown until someone said for sure.

A week late (because I only just finished up the 2013 Checklist), but here are the 2013 toys with Electronics in them.... for anyone who has removed their toys from packaging and no longer needs to play with the electronic gimmicks (or plans to put the toys into storage). This listing will let you know which of your toys to open up before you put them somewhere for the next decade or two.

The COMPLETE Battery listing is located here (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?t=12126), and this 2014 topic will be merged with it after a couple weeks, so that it archives all the updates and submissions.
NOTE - if you are a SEALED collector, it is considered better to leave the batteries in the toys, as there is greater value in the packaging remaining sealed (even if the batteries leak, you shouldn't see or ever know about it anyway).

I'm looking at the hammer that came with Transformers Prime Poweriser Ultra Magnus. It's got a light up feature. It also doesn't appear to have anyway to remove the battery that powers the light without completely (and perhaps irreparably) pulled apart.

This is the only Poweriser toy I have; is this a common thing with their weapons?

This is the list of Transformers toys released in 2014 by Hasbro and TakaraTomy that have Electronics that require Batteries (either included and not included in packaging).

I'm actually early this year, because I forgot that I allocated February 1st (instead of early January) as the Annual day for updating the Battery List (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?t=12126), and for people with out-of-box figures to remove them if they no longer need the electronics to work or are about to put them in storage.

If you have Sealed toys that you will NEVER open, it is recommended to leave them sealed with the batteries in them... as there is more value in them staying sealed. People buying Sealed older figures to open should expect battery leakage and not hold it against the previous owner.

There was another reduction in the number of Electronic toys this year, after last year was already a smaller number than previous years... maybe Electronics and Batteries are getting too expensive to include in too many toys.
This year also saw the introduction of smaller Button Cell Batteries as well (LR-41), which probably aren't much cheaper than the LR-44, but probably reduces a lot of weight over a shipping container full of toys (or just done to limit the over-sized electronic gimmicks from ruining the toys).

This is the list of Transformers toys released in 2015 by Hasbro and TakaraTomy that have Electronics that require Batteries (both included, and not included, in the packaging).

After being a little early last year with the annual update, I'm a little late this year.
I actually had this list written up a month ago, but there hasn't been spare time for me during a quiet time on the board for me to type it up before now... even though it is just a tiny list this year.

Yes, as you'll see below, compared to recent years, the number of electronic Transformers toys last year is at its smallest, with just 10 toys, and only 6 of them sold with Batteries in them (the ones for you to remove if you are about to store them away or have them sit on a display shelf for the next few years).

These are to be added to the main listing at the start of this topic, which has a link to the reason why this listing was started (batteries leaking in my toys).

NOTE - as mentioned in the first posting, if you are keeping your toys sealed for investment reasons, DON'T open them to remove batteries. The value is in the sealed packaging, not the condition of the toy, because it is never to be removed to be played with.

There are two unknowns in that list because I didn't get them, or see enough about them to know if they had their batteries included in the packaging.
I have also updated one old item (original series Trypticon), which I only realised after researching what batteries were in the 2015 Platinum Edition version. (I didn't have the AA battery included for Brunt/tank, and Gigastorm didn't have that accessory as a second chance for me to notice.)

This is the list of Transformers toys released in 2016 by Hasbro and TakaraTomy that have Electronics that require Batteries (both included, and not included, in the packaging).

Not as late as last year's update, but still later than I was planning... and later than it should be considering the number of battery toys are getting smaller each year - either due to cost factors, or because fewer postal companies are accepting mail with batteries in them, which could prevent their customers and Hasbro's own Toyshop website from being able to sell them online. And if they start having a lot of toys with electronics but stop including batteries on all of them, customers won't be able to try out the gimmicks, or want to buy too many toys that require them to spend more money on batteries as well.

Last year I was amazed at there just being 10 different toys on the list with electronics... this year there were even less with only 8, with one being an old mould, and most of them have Japanese versions that pads out the list a little bit.

Griffin, I'd like to add another to your list. The fourth, final and most epic of the G1 Optimus Primes is Star Convoy OP (1991) who requires 4 x AA batteries to operate his tank tracks. I very much doubt he came with batteries but I can personally confirm that the 2005 reissue definitely didn't come with them.

Well that's interesting... I haven't even got a section for JP exclusive Gen1 toys. I'll have to have a look through them all, and see if I missed any others.
Thanks for that.

Well I guess it's that time of year again to think about what has batteries that came out this year. Only toy I bought that takes batteries that came out this year is MP36 Megatron and they are not installed. Even Trypticon didn't have a battery powered gimmick.

Yeah... the list keeps getting shorter each year, either because of the cost of shipping heavier toys from Asia (with or without batteries), and because of tightening shipping restrictions that prevent most postal services from sending batteries in the mail anymore (which would impact on their own online sales, and online sales of their biggest customers like Amazon and Walmart).

The only ones I can think of on the top of my head at the moment are the voice changer helmet and masks.

Does that huge TLK dragonish looking TF that we are selling at Big W even have batteries?

It does, as it has that black light gimmick to it.

Looking at my toy shelves... the RC Sqweeks is another one, and I think the Cybertron planet does as well.
Those Allspark Tech have those power cubes, but I think they are the battery that is charged... not enclosed batteries inside it.

Um... the Power Bank Optimus (HasCon exclusive) is another one... and the JP phone Optimus with the LED bluetooth must have a button cell as well.

And I'll have to look over the Masterpiece toys from this year, to see if any had light up features.

This is the list of Transformers toys released in 2017-2019 by Hasbro and TakaraTomy that have Electronics that require Batteries (both included, and not included, in the packaging).
Please let me know if I missed any.

I kept putting off the 2017 update because it can take a while to work out all of the toys and what batteries they have, and then when it was time to do the 2018 update the non-stop board issues in the last year kept getting in the way.
So to make up for it, I've also done the 2019 update, as we are close enough to the end of the year that we shouldn't be having any unknown toys that have electronics.
Besides, there are only 3 items in 2019 with electronics, so it wasn't a big task. I think dropping electronics (by Hasbro) would be a cost-cutting measure, or part of their green focus... or both. Actually, there only ended up being one new toy by Hasbro for 2019 that had electronics, which was a Rescue Bots toy, so the electronics gimmicks might only end up being on the young kiddie toys in future.

These are to be added to the main listing at the start of this topic, which has a link to the reason why this listing was started (finding batteries leaking in my toys).

NOTE - as mentioned in the first posting, if you are keeping your toys sealed for investment reasons, DON'T open them to remove the batteries. The value is in the sealed packaging, not the condition of the toy, because it is never to be removed to be played with. If the next owner wants to open it up, then they need to expect battery leakage, which is not the fault of the original owner.

LEGEND:
I = Batteries ARE Included in the toy from the factory
NI = Batteries are NOT Included in the toy from the factory
AA, AAA, C, D = Common Battery sizes
LR44 = "regular" Button Cells used in Transformers toys are referred to as LR44 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LR44_battery) (image at link) but can also be known as A76 or L1154.
LR41 = Tiny Button Cells

Sorry, I thought I already replied to this, as I looked up the toy on TFwiki last week (https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Dragotron#Beast_Hunters) to remind me which one you were talking about.

As such, they actually answered your two points without me having to even dig out my own to to look at.

although the wings easily detach from their bases for safety reasons, and to allow easier access to the battery compartment on his back.

The robot head and torso are lit by pressing the translucent-yellow button on his right shoulder.

A couple of new photos I took while removing the latest lot of batteries.
One is of a warning label I've now been finding on some toys, while the other photo is of button cells that I had removed from toys three years ago, but had been sitting in the cupboard (which I only just dug out when doing this update).

MP-44 is 3 LR44. This sticks out because they only come in packs that are multiples of two.

Since I'm completely focused on the CHUG line, I didn't realise Hasbro was still using batteries in Transformers. I thought they had been dumped as a gimmick, much like missiles.

griffin

I'm surprised that they are still using the button cells, especially on the kiddie Rescue Bots toys, because of the swallowing risk... something that the Australian government has been lobbied to outlaw here.
If that did ever happen some Transformers wouldn't be released here.... but that wouldn't be too many now.

Any tips on how to get the batteries out of this RID 2015 Prime?

Already had a go at it recently, removed the screw on the back, which makes his wing come off, then there is no panel to open for batteriers. THe next back screws will basically make the toy fall apart, leaving me to wonder if I'm missing something, as none of my other battery ones require total dis-assembly of a toy to remove the batteries. Any help much appreciated as I'd rather not break it in the process of just removing the batteries.

Yes... I think that single screw on the left of the back just below the wing pack, releases that red panel on the robot's left side.
