This is to memorize Steve Jobs, from whose talent and efforts we have benefited immensely.

"The world is immeasurably better because of Steve."

56, same age when Abraham Lincoln died. Both will remain forever as a great inspiration for us earth people.

I actually cried when I read the news, I'm not afraid to admit that. I'm an Apple geek, I've owned 4 Macs, 3 iPods and 1 iPhone in my life so far and I've officially decided to name my iPhone 4S 'Steve'. I'm not usually the kind of person who names objects, but it feels appropriate. He changed my life, that's for sure.

Wow, normally I don't tear up when I read death notices.
But this one did it for me

As someone who has lost a loved one to Pancreatic Cancer I feel for Steve's family, but I'd be lying if I said his death had any baring on me though.

When I was studying in Japan the computers on campus were mostly running off Unix, which for a computer noob like me was a very frustratingly difficult operating system to use. These days most computer systems run off some form of GUI.

I find myself comparing Steve Jobs with Louise Braille -- both didn't necessarily invent the things that they created, but they did improve on them and make them a lot more accessible to people. At least Jobs did live to see his creations make an impact of society, whereas Braille sadly died at only 43 and never lived to see Braille take off.

And there are Braille apps for iPhone. :) His influence will probably have the greatest impact on Generation Z - kids who have never known the world without the internet. My 2 year old daughter already knows how to shuffle through photos with her finger on my smartphone (and she's been able to do so since she was 1).

I'll be mindful of Steve Jobs each time I watch anything with CGI animation in it... Beast Wars... the live action TF movies... and of course, a lot of my favourite Pixar titles.

To infinity and beyond, Steve.

BREAKING: Steve Jobs cites "over-competitiveness" in his refusal to meet with Bill's mother, Pearl E. Gates...

Sorry but I had to go there.

Interesting seeing how some people are showing their grief... some people said that they've set their monitors to half-brightness... others are changing their FB avatars to the apple logo or to Steve Jobs himself etc.

Mebbe someone here should change their board avatar to the Buzz Lightyear Transformer box art.

Not me though, cos I'm a PC user... I'm not looking to start a PC/Mac debate (so please don't) - but I'm just saying that this tribute would mean more if it came from someone who was a genuine Mac user.

Sorry to hear of his passing but lets keep it in perspective. He didnt dedicate his life to helping others he dedicated his life to building products which locked in consumers from which he then profited from. Any passing is sad & his is no more or less than anyone else.

Personally, I think some are going a little overboard (setting their monitor/computer to half brightness?); you'd think a religious deity had just passed or something.

Don't get me wrong, the guy put up an absolutely amazing fight against a cancer that has been survived by a very minute amount of people (I've been told that it's less than 50 people) as it's an extremely destructive type of cancer but at least he is no longer in pain and his family no longer has to watch their loved one being eaten away. :o

Sure, the world has lost a bright mind but his death, IMO, is going to get way more coverage than what it deserves - Re: Amy Winehouse.
(There are far more deserving people in the world)

You'd be interested to know that in my home country media/general public actually gave him a nickname: Apple Religion Deity Jobs (乔教主).;)

I know what you mean; he's only one of the inumerous people that changed the world each in their own way. Unfortunately media only recognizes those that are commercially eye catching because they have to sell their news.

(Truly, I didn't see that one coming :o)

Yeah, you're spot on there and the US is horrible for it; The size of an actress' arse gets more air-time than a Soldier's death over there and the US Army knows it too.

I was upset when I read the news because I've been an Apple geek since high school. It seems like every educational milestone meant a new Apple for me! My high school Mac was replaced with an eMac when I started Uni, that was replaced with an iMac after Uni, then I bought a MacBook when I went back to Uni again. I've blown way too much money buying the latest and greatest Apple had to offer. But the thing that really got to me was that he was the same age as my dad, that realization got the emotions going. He definitely was a genius and an innovator but some people are going overboard, but they always will, especially when it comes to celebrities. But it takes all kinds to make a world, so I try not to judge.

whoa, and just a few weeks(?) ago I saw from the news that he resigned from Apple citing health concerns... didn't realize he'd kick the bucket so quick, guess he was really , really really sick already, He should've prolly resigned earlier to spend more time with family, ah well, kinda moot :eek::eek:

Typical Apple, all their products die after the successor is released.

Buddhists also invented printing (750-768C.E.) and clockwork (invented by a Buddhist monk named Su Song some 300-400 years before European clockwork) and developed various fighting styles (e.g. Shaolin Kung Fu, Shorinji Kempo etc.) -- and probably a whole lot of other stuff, but it's difficult to historically verify if they were explicitly made by Buddhists or not. Japanese Katakana script was developed by Buddhists too - initially to transcribe words written in Classical Sanskrit, but today it's used to transliterate words from all kinds of non-Japanese languages, like English loan-words. :)
