Update Below 10/25/2011

Hey guys :)

So i had a bunch of Ko seekers laying around and i have been swapping parts back and forth to make different looking versions of Starscream and i noticed that his main body looks pretty much like Metalhawk from Masterforce.

So i decided to take 2 broken clear Starscreams and a Gold starscream and make me a Metalhawk :D

It was a really simple custom to make i think. It took me about 5 hours total ..

What i did was took a set of wings and cut them in half to make the wings that attach to his arms. Then i broke the pegs of two broken launchers and glued the pegs to the shortened wings. The wings can now peg into the hold on his arms where the launchers use to go..

Then i cut the tops of the tail fins off and sanded and shaped them to fit onto his head for the antenna. But doing this was making it unable to close the nose cone of the jet over the head for jet mode so i had to snd down the sides of the nose cone until it was sanded down far enough to fit between the antenna and close the nose cone over his head..

Next i put the figure into jet mode and drilled 2 holes into each side where the hands fold up into the arms. I lined the holes up so they were in line with the fist holes on the hand. I did this so that i could put a second set of launchers i had onto the side of the jetmode..

Then i drilled two more holes intot he side of each launcher. I did this so that i could attach the shortened wings to the side of the jet mode and give the jet some wings and the launchers look like jet engines now..

Then i noticed the G1 toys guns were actually the tail fins on the jet . So i lucked out that teh tail fins on these seekeres are attached with screws and if you remove the screws the tail fins pop off and even have PEGS!! so he can hold them just like the G1 toy did. And in jet mode the tail fins can peg right back ontot he rear of the jet still.

Then while looking at him in bot mode i was trying to think of what to do with the launchers in bot mode.. So what i did was drill 2 more holes into his back so now the launchers can peg into his back and out of the way and it actually looks pretty cool too lol ..

the last thing i did was cut down the things on his shoulders so they were not as tall anymore. I did this with a paint of wire cutters and then sanded them to shape them better..

In the end i think i came up with a pretty good looking custom for a Classics Generations Metalhawk.. I know the pics are a little hard to look at right now because he is totally clear but i will be painting him up to match the G1 figure.. I will post pics of that when he is all painted. I just hope he turns out the way i see it in my head lol .. And of course he will get a custom Box as well :D

So let me know what ya think of it :)

Here are the pics :)

UPDATE 10/25/2011

I broke out my air brush and laid some paint down on the Metalhawk. Its came out pretty good i think, but hit need decals so im going to design him some and make some water slide decals i think.. The paints i used were a Pearlized Yellow which i was very happy with the golden color it produced and then i used a Pearlized Blue that came out really nice as well.. The white gave me problems, for some reason my airbrush will not spray white paint at all , it's crazy. So i got a few touchups to do on him and the decals and he will be finished. Then ill make his box or maybe a card for him.. So to see the new pics just scroll down below the clear pics . Let me know what you think :)

That looks awesome. Could you let me know what stand you are using in the first couple of shots?

Looks awesome PA! Can't wait for this guy to get painted... there's KO gold screamers as well maybe you can use them so you can recreate the vacuum metalized look of the G1 Metalhawk.

@ Sarquiss: that's an Obitsu figure stand. quite handy I use the same for my DCU figures

Yup thats the stand above there . Though there is a site where you can buy them for 5$ each. I dont have the link anymore but just do a search the name of the stand and you will find it..

Im working on a second one today using the chest from the Gold seeker that i took the joints off of. BUT i just cracked the ball joint in half that his legs attach to so now i have to see if i have spare parts for that . Thats the only bad thing with the clear figures, the plastic is just garbage and should have never been used on the joints and ball joints. The gold seeker has the solid golden brown parts thats why i swaped them out ..

I got to decide on some good paints. I normally airbrush with scrylics but with the amount of moving parts on the seeker that rub , the paint will peel right off.. So im thinking of sanding all the areas that rub and then get me some cans of krylon fusion in the colors i need. Ill just buy some of those small spray cans.. Hopefully it will all work out cause i really want this to turn out good.. Ill post pics when i get to painting him :)

erm krylon fusion paint... does it stick more better as in it never rubs off? hope this project goes well, I know what you mean about clear plastic... sigh my iceman ML has a broken crotch though he is only translucent..:(

btw, what glue did you use to attach the pegs to those cut off half wings? coz I really need a good strong glue that would adhere to the plastic used in TFs

Thanks for the info guys :D

I had a quick look and the only one I could find priced at $5 was the black one :(

I shall continue looking. PrimulArchangel, do you mind if you could take some more pictures of the seeker being held by the stand in jet and robot mode.

Thanks :D

Clear plastics are a nightmare, i cant believe that they even allow stuff made with it to even be sold.. The glue i used was normal Crazy Glue but i heard Gorilla Glue was pretty strong stuff too, stronger then crazy glue. If its a joint that gets alot of stress you may want to look into a super strong clear apoxy. A friend of mine uses that .

Yeah sure i can take a few pics when i get a chance. The stands are great. I use one for taking pictures of toys that i will use on boxes. Having the toy suspended in the air gets rid of shadows and that works out great in photoshop.. The other stands i have i use on my WST Seekers. each stand comes with 2 claws and it lets me put 2 seekers per stand. They also come in different sizes. I have one thats also holding up a T-rex skull lol
And here ya go, this is the site my buddy ordered ours from http://www.toymalaysia.com/webshaper/store/viewProd.asp?pkProductItem=178
They are only 4.67 but out of stock right now. Try emailing the site and asking if they will get more in :)

Thanks PrimulArchangel, I really appreciate your help. I recently purchased a display for my Transformers and now I am trying to think of different ways I can display them and I really liked the look of the Obitsu Multi Stand to display my Seekers :D

Here are a few pics i had in my photobucket of the stands in use. I didnt have time to take any new ones but this should give you a pretty good idea on how they work out :)

One thing to keep in mind though is these stands are wobbly with the larger figures and if the figure is too heavy you could snap the plastic rod. So if you are going to display them in a location with alot of foot traffic that can shake the case they may tip over.. Ones thing i did to make them a little more safe is put Blu Tack sticky putty under the base and it sticks it to the shelf without doing damage to anything and the stuff can be reused .. 3M makes a white version of it , its mainly use to half pictures on wall without nails.

Thanks alot guys, I really appreciate the help. I am in the process of setting up my Transformers in the Ikea Detolf I purchased and want to be creative :)

Once I get things organized I will post my evergrowing collection :D

I might stop by Hobbyco seeing as I work in the city to pick up the stands. The site liegeprime charges a fair bit for shipping so it may be better just to get the stands locally :)

I did a little bit of digibashing to see what some other paint apps will look like . Im thinking of adding the pearlized yellow gold to his tail fins, pearlised blue to his wing tips and eyes , pearlized silver to his waist and the autobot symbol to his chest.. Here is a before and after of how he may look.

Primul, go for it mate! - Those planned additional paint apps are the fine touches this figure needs to really make it work but also aiding in a break-up of the colour. ;):)
Excellent work dude, looking forward to seeing the end results of this custom alot. :D

Nice paint job, though I'm not sure about the yellow on the tailfins.

BTW any plans to get a Pretender shell happening?

liegeprime

yeah, mebbe not yellow for the tailfins, just seem to not sit right.... The thighs as well are kinda plain looking you might need to add some lines to add details on that - just like how they put outlines for Gundam figures, just to break all that white... just some suggestions there Primul

Love the figure. I think the highlights look awesome.
Maybe instead of yellow on the fins you could put the same gold that you used on the torso to give it a more consistent colour scheme.

Yup thats what im planning on is using the pearlized yellow gold i have. I just used yellow cause i couldnt copy the pearly effect .

I have a few sets of tail fin sections so i can actually do a couple different painted versions so i can see what one is best. Im still wondering how i should make the decals. I been going through images of G1 sticker sheets to see if any of them looked usable on him. I can alter the colors in photoshop once i find some to use and then im going to make water slide decals instead of making stickers.

Yeah that'll work much better than yellow :) I hope you can find stickers that match.

BTW are you sure NYR are Autobots? I woulda thought Sean Avery would be a Decepticon :D

Yes, I saw he cleared waivers. I only chose him since he's controversial. But I actually like him (despite not being a Rangers fan myself).

Love the Zamboni. Creative & well executed! :)
