Hey team, my tax return is here an i have enough to splurge a little and i'm in need of some advice. I want to pick up one of the recent Unicron reissues and cant decide which one.
I have done my homework and all reviews are different. Some say the Transformers 2010 TakaraTomy version is better and more anime accurate and some say the amazon exclusive Hasbro version is better and more accurate. Which is it? If price was no option, which one would you go for?

I am in the same boat but I am choosing the Amazon one.

Well I'm not getting either because I already have Armada Unicron. But if I were in sideswipes_brother's situation and money was no object, I'd go for 2010 Tomy Unicron. :)

I would wait until they release a unicron that transforms into a planet shape as opposed to a box with a round bit on it.:p

You could be waiting for a long, long time. Besides, very few people display the toy in planet mode anyway.

true, so true, but I really don't think I'd be happy with the current mold, and I like to change things up with displays being a mix of robot and alt modes. :D
having said that I really do like the new head sculpt and colouring of both the Takara release and the Amazon release. As for choosing between the two if I was going to get one and money was no object...
I prefer the colour richness of the Takara version, but I think the Amazon might be a little more screen accurate.
I'd probably go the Takara version, just because the paint apps seem a little more detailed and it's not too shiny.

Like Goki, I too already have the Armada release and whilst I wouldn't mind picking up one of the new ones it's not immediately on my priority list; having said that though, if money wasn't an object I'd definitely go with the Amazon release as IMO it's got the superior colour scheme and fits my idea of the original look of the character far better.
(I'm just not a fan of the orange and grey's hue or their combination on the Takara 2010 release, the extent of the orange's use is excessive too with little break-up occuring :o)

I just found http://i930.photobucket.com/albums/ad143/Stormbringer23/unicron.jpg
Maybe a round version isn't so far away...

That's an old Beast Wars Neo prototype that, rather annoyingly, never came to be :( - he'd be better described as Galva-cron anyway. :p
I agree though dude, a properly spherical Unicron doesn't seem beyond reach at all ; whether it's financially viable though is another question. :o

It has been decided. I am now the proud owner of a Taktom Unicron. :D

Beast Wars Unicron might have had a better looking planetoid mode, but the Armada Unicron mode has a much better robot mode. Also, one reason why the BW Unicron mould was cancelled was because it would have been really bloody expensive too. I can't remember what the recommended retail price was - but it was pretty huge. Beyond what most collectors would have been willing to pay and probably even fewer parents.

Glad you went with TakTom version. It is a great version, much prefer the colour scheme on this one over the Amazon version.
