The release of the Comic-store (Diamond) edition of this years BotCon comic has on the back page an advertisement for next year's convention (http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/first-botcon-2012-mold-revealed/23130/)... it doesn't give away any location or specific details, but does hint at the theme for next year with a short blurb and a silhouette of the Classicverse Gen2 Optimus Toy.

So who do you think it is likely to be, using the Gen2 Optimus mould?

LOL :p:D

I've noticed that most of our fellow fans from the North American continents are jumping on this being Scourge...
Which seems fairly wrong though as the Blue Eyes and Character Description point pretty much entirely in the opposite direction.
(You watch though, I'll end up eating my words :p)

I'm postulating the use of this mold as Prima, with the Classicsverse G2 Prime's sword being remolded to have the Matrix in it's hilt, or Ultra Magnus as he was the Earth-bound Commander wasn't he? :o

Nuh... they don't need to be enslaved to the G1 cartoon's blue eyes = good, red eyes = evil (even the G1 cartoon itself didn't adhere to this "rule" a lot of times)

...also, it could be SG Nemesis Prime. ;)

He was commander of Autobot City -- so yeah. I'd like to see Ultra Magnus actually. :) Then fanboys can whinge about the lack of trailer-armour and some 3P manufacturer can cash in on it with a G2 City Commander. ;)

Oh god, that'd be all shades of confusing! :p:D

I guess it means we will be seeing a fair few of the Reveal-the-Shield and early wave Generations toys next year.

So based on their hints "Three of the characters are getting their first updates ever" and "Two of the figures draw upon the "distant past" ", I wonder who they could be hinting at.
The first hint sounds like Gen1 characters from the first couple years of the toyline (1984-1986) that haven't been done in Classicverse yet, which there aren't too many left now.
While the second hint may refer to "War Dawn" type characters... like Orion Pax, Dion (again) and Ariel.

Is there a list somewhere that checks off the first 3 years of TFs toys done in the Classicverse line? (to help narrow down the list of potentials)

theres not many left that havent been updated a couple that i can think of are

-the rest of the dinobots
-gears
-hoist
-trailbreaker
-huffer
-arielbots
-protectorbots

I think Trailcutter would be claimed to be a Trailbreaker update.
Not sure how they would do Dinobots with existing moulds though... But hopefully FoC will prompt the creation of a full set of Dinobots.

I wonder if its possible to get away with doing a set of Aerialbots with the Seeker moulds, and redeco the Ultra Silverbolt.

They could certainly do three of the Protectobots though (Hotspot, Firstaid, Streetwise... no wait, they did Streetwise already).

Don't count the movie toys? They had gears and hoist. The rest of the dinobots have in animated and minicon size

Huffer was done by BotCon, so he wouldn't qualify. I doubt that movie toys would be considered, though, Autocon (since they're not G1 characters, just name sharing), Autocon.

Does it have to mean they are using that mould?
Could it be that they are just making another story around G2 again and that G2 Prime is a major character in the story?

Maybe they are doing this story (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?t=11636)?

Since their last attempt at Gen2 failed to actually include more than one uniquely Gen2 characters... maybe they are giving it a second go with the lead mould being the Gen2 Classics Optimus.
The classicverse Kup could be done as Electro, while Hubcap could be done as Volt. Jetstorm, Deluge and Leadfoot could use the Mirage mould, and Drench could use the Wheeljack mould. Windbreaker could use the Windcharger mould. And the Skyraider jets or Cyberjets could each use Classicverse or Machine Wars jets.
There were so many exclusively Gen2 characters, and all they could manage in last year's set was Rapido.
