If you buy a figurine at a store then stop somewhere for food or whatever - will you open up your new transformer and have a look/play in public, or do do you keep it in the bag until you're somewhere nice and private?
I usually wait until I get back to my car then open 'em up. :o

I do when I get the chance. Usually in the food court or on the train. This applies to comics as well :D:D. In the preripheries of my vision I see people taking a look at me but meh I don't care. Im not hurting anyone nor am I doing anything shameful or illegal. It's not like Im smoking pot in a public area ( not that I smoke at all) or slowly undressing (reserve the puking bags now):p:p:p in public.

i open things on public transport if i know things won't fall out. Books and the sort - i can't help but read them straight away.

I'm a home body myself, normally socialising when I pick up something new so I just wait until I'm back home;):)

But aren't you worried you'll get food on it

It depends on how excited I am. If it's something I've been super excited for, I'll totally open it up in the car, sitting in the carpark. Otherwise, I wait until I'm home. If it's something that has come in the mail, I'll attempt to open it up in the car at the post office but ususally the sticky tape beats me and I have to wait until I'm at home.

It really depends what it is, I tend to open toys at home simply to ensure I don't lose anything, but also because I don't want to wave my tape slashing bubble slicing pocket knife around in public more than necessary:eek:
If it's a book or comic, it might get cracked open if I'm not driving.
and if it's a package, I tend to pick it up on the way to work, so the box at least gets opened at some point during the day while I'm at work.

My missus is the opener, since I'm usually driving.
She'll often open a figure/book/whatever adn start fiddling before we've even left the carpark.
I tend to wait till I get home, which is a byproduct of the twist tie hell that opening TF used to be, and before that it was due to DBZ figurines being over-packaged and me wanting to keep my DBZ cards nice, clean and straight.

Depends on whether or not I have a knife on me or not. If I go with the anticipation of getting a toy and I can't wait to go home, then I'll bring my Transformers Liberation Kit with me (as some of you seen and borrowed at meets ;)). If I don't, but I'm about to go home, then I'll wait till I get home. If I can't wait to get home and I don't have my TFLK on me, then I'll kindly ask a store attendant to borrow a box cutter. :D
So yeah, basically if I'm gonna go straight home then I'll wait, but if not I'll crack it open. :)

I hope so, for Goki's sake, because that is incredibly illegal... :o
For me, I open things I purchase at home because I find it easier to deal with but also because I figure: "Well, I've waited this long to get it - What's an extra half-hour or so?".
Although, if I'm at the Parra Fair post Mall Meet then I've got no problems getting everything out but I do have my reservations at times because it usually results in at least 1 of my newly purchased figures being violated by that of another... Dragonzord still hasn't fully recovered and refuses the advances of Megazord and Solitaire has become a recluse due to the fact that she's the only Fem-Rock out of a group of 9 and word has spread about her time with Airrazor. :p:D
*I'd just like to go on record to say the title of this thread is awesome and made me laugh like a kid.:p:D

Depends on how clean my hands are.
If they have touched money, no; if they have touched food, no; if they have touched railings on a public transport, no; if there is dust on the package, no; if...
So 95% of the time the answer is no. I can't tolerate the thought of any dirt/grease/smell or whatever contaminating my TF collection.

I open Transformers when I get home.
*Looks at the six Transformers I brought home last week and notice that only Air Raid has been opened.*
Um. Eventually.
But I read my new comics on the train home.

It's silly but it's there for a reason I guess, I can't believe you didn't know about that law already Goki?
Also, as an extension, it is illegal to keep any blade (Including Scissors) in the cabin of a car, stationary or otherwise, as they must be out of immediate access at all times and no - The glove box doesn't count either. :o

Well the reason is that they don't want people to carry knives around as they can be used as weapons in assaults. So just because a few rotten apples have misused them for assaults in the past, the rest of us who have normal uses for them (e.g. using a box cutter to open boxes!) are inconvenienced. :(
Anyway, I just never thought about it until now. It's like when you find out that you need to have a permit and safe storage requirements for gun Transformers -- for a lot of people, until someone brings it to your attention you just don't consciously think about the potential that these toys can be used as replica weapons. And again, it's because of a stupid minority who would use gun Transformers to threaten people that the majority of us collectors are inconvenienced. :( :( But anyway, the law's the law... so as I said, I'm not gonna be bringing my TF liberation kit outside.

I open 'em at home. Don't want to lose bits and not keen on brandishing sharp things in public.

I wait till I'm home. Not because I'm ashamed but because I have a ritual.
I'll pop on a dvd that features the toy (or if not the toy then the character. Failing that anything will do), get my tools and open it up. Theres more to it but I like the time and the space to really have a good play.

Which is why it's safer to bring that little ceramic package opener I showed you way back, its easy and safe, though it's quite easy to loose as well.:p:D:D

I know you can't carry a hockey stick in the car without having other hockey stuff otherwise it's a 'weapon'.
One of the girls I work with always has her work blade in her handbag and I always remind her it's actually a crime.

I usually open them up at home. Or Since I too pick mail up on the way to work, work. The last time I opened one after buying it straight away, I still took the time to go and buy myself a coffee and have a sit down to open it then and there.
Then I had a smarmy waitress come up and ask me "You still play with toys"
Well, the answer she got back wasn't exactly what she was expecting. Needless to say I was never served by her again:D
It was super powered Sideburn from RID for those playing at home, my first RID TF, and bought coz he looked like Hot Rod. ( at the time, I thought Beast Wars was a dodgy knock off trying to ride the popularity of G1 "Optimus PrimAL. I had been out of the link for a while:p

If it's something I'm cracking open, as soon as I come out of the store. I've also been known to open ebay parcels (or at least start to) before I've even left the post office.
