Hey dudes :) Hope this is the right place to post it, but some months ago I found a thread with some awesome jetfire mods (it extended the amount at which the legs can be pulled out of the shin-area) - It made jetfire look less...stout-

Now though - I can't find where it is anymore!!! :( Anyone remember seeing it and can link me to it? (I haven't a clue if it was tfans or tfw2005 or...???)

Thanks guys :D

No problem! :)

I regularly check out the Kitbash forums to keep an eye on the skilled repainters/kitbashers/scratchbuilders out there in the TF world. There's some really creative stuff out there! Something I've observed (that's been bugging me) is that when someone's work appears to be of pretty poor quality, people seem to be afraid to tell them. Sure people are trying to be constructive in their comments, but when someone's efforts "look pretty crappy" isn't it best to tell them that? If you fill their heads with thoughts that their average work (at best) is "mindblowingly awesome", How are they supposed to get better at customising their TFs?

Constructive criticism is one thing but talking up someone's lame work only succeeds in "swelling up their head" to unhealthy levels.

Oh, & do you remember that mod from a couple of years ago that gave Alt Prowl/Camshaft Scissor Doors? I remember that took a hell of a lot of work but the end result was awesome! :D

I love the extra texture that the extra height gives now.

Very Smick! :D

Was it complicated or did the instructions actually make sense?

It makes sense to him but too noobs like you and me, it might as well be Spanglish.

Did you just reassemble the legs or do you need to physically modify the mold?

STL: THanks dude :D He looks SO MUCH BETTER (IMO) with the extra height :D WOOTS!

Pulse: :D It wasn't that hard to get the instructions once I cracked open the legs.
I'm apparently going to be doing it to STL's jetfire soon. :)

Other than requiring fairly steady hands and being careful not to cut yourself, it's really quite do-able! :D Shall I start offering to do it for people for say, some small, nominal fee? :D Custom shop!!!! :D

kup: the legs have to be open, then shave off bits here and there to get the leg extension done- so yes- physical modifications are required. as is patience and a good knife :D (or a dremel I suppose :b)

*shoves glory hound, lcz128, aside*

Without the help of anyone in particular, I was able to complete my first custom/mod job. My Skyfire is looking spanking good now courtesy of my exceptionally brilliant talents. I'm open to requests if anyone so desires to mod their Skyfire for a modest sum of $200 USD.

& to think that without my frequent searching of kitbash forums, your Skyfire's would still have legs of normal length... :D

I want to make a smaller version of his super mode helmet as a new head.

Would anyone be able to point out any tutorials for making a head from scratch?

I have read the Jetfire leg extender review but I can't follow it properly. I don't understand exactly where he is making his cuts and new notdges.

alack! a tool I do not have. I'm like that kid from Gran Torino, except I have a job and I don't have gangstas hounding me night and day.

I'll have to look into whether its worth buying one just to make the occasional mod to some toy.

so you're not like that kid whatsoever. :p

whilst you are contemplating buying a dremel, you can go ghetto style and just heat up a hobby knife with a candle etc to make the cuts....:D

^I was contemplating filing away with a mini hacksaw blade, or does the heat really help?

bruticus

fark yeah...man, it'll cut through like butter...i've use that technique on ROTF rampage arms. i've also seen some people even use blade attachments on their soldering iron just to use it a hot knife....

just be careful not to burn yourself and dont sniff the plastic fumes....

but whatever you end up deciding on, just go for it man... worst case you can always patch up areas with putty or styrene etc if you over cut or break something...LOL
