Alright, time for another dedicated LEGO thread.

Todays sighting, I saw some "fan created" sets at toyworld. They looked to be direct imports from not LEGO Australia as they were mostly what appeared to be scandanavian (I think) writing on them. They were some sort of space skull set. Pretty cool, and $59 or so.

Ah, there we go:

http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/Product.aspx?p=10192&cn=245

But the box I saw had a lot more on the front of it than what is in that picture. EDIT: Unless it was the back of the box I was thinking of. :) Either way, much cheaper than the lego store.

By the way, are any of you guys part of the LEGO Club? It's 15 bucks lifetime membership, just renew once every year at no cost.

You get a small booklet each quarter of every year, and usually at least 1 issue each year will come with a small LEGO set and the year's catalog. I reckon it's a good deal considering that it's lifetime membership.

New City Coast Guard sets are out at K-Mart Chadstone.

Picked myself this today; 7738 Coast Guard Helicopter & Life Raft.

It's a lot bigger then I expected, I've only seen pictures of this on the Lego websites. Took me a good hour to build, fun construction, annoying stickers, so yeah the usual Lego affair. I think it looks absolutely brilliant, I love the doors and the automatic winch system is pretty neat.

At the moment it's just sitting on top of my stack of music CD's and computer games on my computer desk shelf. I have to make some room for it.

Yea, saw a whole heap today. I'm not interested in them though, so I didn't look at the prices, which would be pre-sale. But there was a boat, a catapult thing, and man, a bunch of other stuff with the orcs and stuff. So they are there.

I'm really stoked for the new Castle sets, I've been waiting for them for quite a while now and knowing that Big W will be stocking them for the big toy sale makes me extremely happy.

Defintely getting 7038: Troll Assault Wagon set for the adorable green ogre which is getting lured by the chicken leg hung over its head. The other set from the new Castle series I'm currently contemplating over is 7037: Tower Raid.

Other then those the only other future Lego sets I'm waiting for is probably 7676: Republic Attack Gunship from the Star Wars series. No release date yet though. Also 10188: Death Star set would be a dream to own but at $399.99USD (god I don't even want to think what price we'd be paying for it) I really can't justify such a price, maybe when I'm rich and not a poor poor student.

It looks quite seamless from the image but there is quite a lot of building to be had. The only real big specialized piece was the tail end, the rest of the helicopter are made from smaller pieces that were split up into four big seperate bags.

I know some Lego fans are disliking the whole specialized pieces in the newer sets. Lego sets are ending up looking more like models due to that and to be frank I like that. I dig them specialized pieces.

That has got to be one of the funniest things Lego has done in a set. And I have to get my hands on it purely for that reason

I know your pain. Transformers + Lego + Video Games + Anime + Women all adds up on a small budget....
But the Star Wars sets are starting to scare me. I couldn't stand the Clone Wars Anakin figure that came out recently. And some of the others ain't looking to great either. Except for maybe the clones and aliens

I know some Lego fans are disliking the whole specialized pieces in the newer sets. Lego sets are ending up looking more like models due to that and to be frank I like that. I dig them specialized pieces.
The occasional specialized piece is ok. But not like a whole set of them. Once it gets to a certain point then you loose the Lego-ness of the model. Thats one of the things I like about them, that you make them from basic parts and can break them up and build other things.

Main reason why I wanted 7038 Troll Assault Wagon was for the adorable ogre and the chicken leg bait thing. Quick and easy build. No stickers hooray. Really? I thought it was too expensive. I really want one. My lil sister and I love these type of sets. Might have to go back and layby a set. She'll love it.

Town Plan is an awesome set. One of the best city sets ever IMO. I'm gunna go the hunt for one today.

So is anyone trying to build TFs with Legos? Which Lego genres do you think provide the best raw materials?

I haven't made a custom for an age and a lot of my bricks are tied up in production sets at the moment so I probably wont for a while, but the best TF Lego I have seen so far was a set of Predacons that all transformed individually and also formed Predaking just like the real guys do. I was stunned by the quality and beauty of it all.

Yep it's the box with Lego founder's Grandson on the cover. Not sure if all Myer branches carry it, I've only seen it in the Perth city Myer so far. They had roughly 30 (could have been more).

I actually never saw Cafe Corner/Market Street in Perth Myer, instead saw one of them (can't remember which) in Perth city David Jones a few months ago. They still had 2 boxes left there yesterday at $250. I can remember the price but cannot remember if it was Cafe Corner or Market Street (have very poor memory... :o ).

What I find is... as a kid all the sets bought by my parents would eventually be disassembled into a big box and I would have wild fun with all the parts building all sorts of stuff. But now as a grown up when I go buy my own kits, I tend to buy the sets for their designs and appreciate them more. So I now prefer to build them and leave them and far less reluctant to use these sets for parts. And I don't really have much time to be creative again anyway... :o

I had the same phenomenon as a kid. As an adult, I now buy sets that I like for the sets, but I do envisage them all eventually getting thrown into the same vat, but I'll always save the instruction in case I do want to revisit something.

I made one a while ago. Based on on Cybertron Starscream

Entered it into a competition, but got knocked out because I was in with another awesome one.
but that was ages ago. I haven't had time to build anything myself recently.

Anyone know an insider at Target who knows whether Lego will be discounted like K-mart's 20% off promotion, for their big sale? My local has a few items I want but I'm not going to pay full price if I know Target will have them reduced for the sale. Hopefully the new Mars Missions will be out in time for the sale.

That's pretty darn cool.

I too remember the wonder of building stuff from random lego pieces. For me, my fondest memories were building pirate ships. My parents couldn't afford to buy me those sets in my youth so i compensated by using my imagination and it was a heap of fun.

I'm surprised no one here has bought that Takara lego-ish Prime though given all the lego enthusiasts here.

I can highly recommend the UCS Falcon. Took me 3 days to build, mainly cos I didn't take the time to organize the 5100+ pieces to begin with which would have saved a lot of time.

But a heck of a lot of fun. Looks great. Weighs more than a 6 year old.

I built the Motorized Lego AT-AT last night!

Disclaimer: This is the first Lego set I've build since a kid, or as a teenager while babysitting another kid.

What a blast!!!!! This thing is awesome! It's a great combination of Technics (the engingeand moving legs), space lego (angle/wing pieces) and very creative uses (shovels for guns).

The walking motion is fantastic! Just like the movie. There's a step... pause... step... pause. I wish I had a to-scale Snowspeeder that it could crush. The head also moves as part of the sequence.

How many times does everyone pause in the middle of building a set while swearing that the required piece isn't there!!?!?!?! I kept pondering how I was going to call Lego because they shorted me! But of course, it always shows up. Actually though, I did get an incorrectly colored lower torso, so I will write them.

Again, first set in a while, but what memories it brought back and it might be tied to recent TF QC issues, but compared to Hasbro, what quality this brand exudes!!!! Brilliant design, no QC issues, along with incredible ideals of creativity, and smart use of brand alignment (Star Wars).

Don't get me wrong, I love my TFs, but Legos f@#$%^ng rule!

All the time. :)

Yea, I also thought that I got an incorrectly coloured bit with my imperial dropship, but I found that I had used the wrong coloured bit elsewhere and it was just a mix up on my part, because with the sets these days, I have trouble of distinguishing grey from black in the instructions. The black should be black, not just a darker grey shade.

I have found with my past experiences that Lego is the best company to deal with when it comes to replacement parts.
I found that a couple of my parts broke, shot of an email and they said they were sorry about the parts breaking, so they would sent me new ones. and these were for sets that were 5 or 6 years old.
I asked once if they were going to give away or release a Bionicle mask piece (the Vahi for anyone who knows). They said they weren't going to release it down here, but sent me one anyway.
They are really really generous.

+1 It's hell sometimes, especially under yellow/orange light.

For the more experienced Lego Buyers here, I've bit the bullet and decided to start collecting lego too to, as Jaydisc says, grant me the "scenes" I've been looking for.

So where are the best places to buy? Is it better to buy online from a certain store or is retail the cheapest option? Or should I only buy stuff I really want from the stores and then look around on eBay for cheap lots?

From what I can see, the Aust. prices for new / current LEGO sets are not bad.

However if you are after older stuff (e.g. Classic Space minifigs), then usually eBay charges much more than BrickLink.

If you are buying piece by piece I think BrickLink is cheaper too than going to LEGO.com, but you need to check around the various shops on BL.

I've had to clear shelves in my cupboard just to store my new renewed interest in Lego and even then, its more a storage solution than a display solution. The funny thing is, I have heaps of TFs in storage, in large drawers which I never felt the need to display but yet with my Legos, I just felt I had to display them in some capacity over my TF collection. Perhaps because I already have so many TFs on display, I just felt that I needed to break up the monotony of it all and show some variation. I'm wondering where the rest of my Legos are going to go once they arrive - I was thinking in a corner in my daughter's playroom but the missus has said no to that since I already have my own room:

Yes I haven't quite figured out where to put the Falcon yet. It's difficult to display. The Star Destroyer is easy cos it's both tall and long, but the falcon is quite flat, and you want to be able to see all of it cos it's no symmetrical.

No. That was the UCS (Ultimate Collector Series). The new one is more of a playset and comes with 33 22 minifigs. Seen here (http://shop.lego.com/Product/AssetPopup.aspx?p=10188&AssetType=13)

Actually if you go to the Customer Service page on the LEGO website, you can order the missing pieces from your set free of charge I believe.

I have found with my past experiences that Lego is the best company to deal with when it comes to replacement parts.

Just went to the site and walked through the very clever web app that showed me all the possible pieces in the set, and was done in about 30 seconds. A minute later, I got a request for feedback email, to which I gave a glowing review. The process was awesome! They said I'd have the part in 3 weeks.

Seeing how there are quite a few LEGO fans here, I thought I'd share an article I found. It's an interview with one of the designers of some of the LEGO space sets:

http://gadgets.boingboing.net/2008/02/11/interview-bjarne-p-t.html

Enjoy. :)

Sweet job, I'd love to do that except i'd be totally lousy at staying within the brick budget.

Nice to see Lego fans here.

I'm a bit sad that Exo-Force has finished. I really thought they were heading towards transforming mechs, since the most recent ones hinted at it. I really loved Exo Force and was the sole reason I got right back into Lego again. I tend to collect the Lego trucks, so I'm really keen for that Agents Truck/base thing.

Oh and jaydisc, I too swear that I saw the new Death Star playset going for $399 before. $629 is just ridiculous. Knowing it's really just a $300-$400 set with the SW license/brand bumping up the price.

Yes, that was correct. It was $399 due to Lego's "mistake". Had 2 friends who wanted to buy this but they've both changed their minds since the price "corrected".

Just some question guys,
A) Are the market place and green grocer sets only for online store order? Coz that's what they said with the Cafe corner and Ive spotted 1 or two but stupid me didnt put on layby?

B) I havent ordered anything from the online store but if any of you guys have, is it "okay" so to speak, reliable, fast and nothing to worry about,

C) Plus are those prices in AU$ or US$?

Agents is also a line I am looking forward to. Regarding Exo-Force, my feelings about it are mixed. They had some good sets (e.g. Aero Booster), but their mechs were often a bit too simple (not enough articulation), and the hairpieces on the minifigs were way too loose ... always kept falling off.

My goal is to eventually make my own mechs (TFs), so I plan to get as much Exo and Bionicle for raw materials as possible. So, Exo is EOL? (end of life)

I have a similar-hairpiece problem on my SW AT-AT Stormtroopers. The helmets are quite loose.

A. I think it depends on retailer. Toyworld will usually get in things that other stores don't like the current skull raiders thing. Looks like a European box it's in.

C. Should be irrelevant with the exchange rate, but yea, should be AUD. Should have a little aud infront of the price. ;)

Has anyone here actually ordered from Lego.com? My order has just shipped (I placed it last Saturday) but I'm curious to know whether it ships from Lego Australia's warehouse or from overseas. It states delivery takes 18 days on the site - so does that mean 18 days from the order being placed or from when it ships? Because if its shipped from Lego Australia's warehouse, chances are I should get it Monday (Lego's warehouse is in Lane Cove, NSW). Any help?

Back in my SW Lego Days, I ordered plenty of times from Lego.com.
They all ship from Denmark & the packaging is usually massive...

Cos it's been years since then, I honestly can't remember how long it took for Lego to reach me

My friends were gonna get me to order for them from Lego.com since Lego.com doesn't ship to their country. I don't think they'll be writing. :/

Regarding Lego.com, so far I've only pre-ordered one set from them (the giant castle chess set, $299 with free early bird shipping). It won't ship until September. It was what I got my Bopo card for... :o:p

It is absurd - they make the boxes about as big as the constructed set. Of course the set in "brick form" is way way way smaller.

That's why when I buy LEGO I always lift the box for a feel of its mass in my hand first. Those LEGO Star Wars sets, as well as other sets that probably have to pay licence/royalty fees (e.g. Batman, Indiana Jones) are lightweights compared with LEGO branded sets.

Funnily enough, the oversized box really does emotionally make up for the dollars you've poured into the purchase, even after construction. :p

Also 'd get more annoyed with a set that came in a sensibly sized box which I couldn't store a partially disassembled model into easily (or at all).

Whoa! Those are mindblowingly amazing. I want to get all those sets already but now I'm even more eager... I think my Transformers buying may have to slow down!

Are there any instructions of those anywhere? Having built two and picked up AeroBooster, I can see a few ways to get transforming parts. Instructions for those 2 mechs are listed on the page - click on the numbered thumbnails for instructions. If you are after additional parts, I recommend bricklink.com for all your parts needs. Its like ebay but for Lego. It has an inventory guide for every set produced so if you are missing parts from a set, you can obtain them easily and cheaply. I've ordered parts for complete sets and they ended up cheaper than buying the sets themselves!! Plus you can obtain rare parts which the Legoshop might not have.

EDIT: I do go through Peeron.com to compare prices on bricklink as there can be a large difference in price from one seller to another for the same part.

I've been contemplating buying a ton of white bricks through there to do a custom Hoth scene.

Ah yes, I know who's getting that 6212 and I'm very jealous.

I've seen the following at the Target toy sale recently and am wondering what were the RRPs of these if anyone can help. The prices I've spotted them for are in brackets:

8108 Mobile Devastator ($72)
7707 Striking Venom ($40)
7713 Bridge Walker vs. White Lightning ($64)
7721 Combat Crawler X2 ($40)

Should I grab them now at 20% off or not? I particularly want Combat Crawler for the mech inside as well as the Mobile Devastator. The Devastator somewhat annoys me b/c I think I'd only like the mech and not sure about the Devastator itself. However, I think I already have put it on layby at Myer for about $80.

I built Blade Titan and Cyclone Defender last night. Blade Titan's wonderful though he misses the waist articulation that Iron Condor has. However, his guns and colours are pretty damn cool.

Someone has been bitten by the Lego bug. ;)

Exo-Force were the sets that got me back into Lego ina HUGE way. I've managed to get nearly all of the Exo sets bar a few I'm not too big on.That Devastator is ugly even for that price but I got tempted. The Combat Crawler is fantastic and so is the Bridge Walker (it has awesome armaments). Striking Venom is HUGE! In fact those you listed are all huge sets.

It's a pity you missed these ones:
- 7714 Golden Guardian
- 7712 Super Nova

Also you should check out some of the other great non Exo-Force sets:
- Mars Mission (especially the latest ones)
- 7037 Tower Raid (great siege tower)
- 7041 Troll Battle Wheel (TRU exclusive and its HUGE)

The X-Wing is excellent if a little overpriced, you missed the last sale TRU had on them for $59. It is a great model though with folding wings, ingenious building, compartment for lightsabre/rifle and R2D2 slot. Also comes with 6 minifigs: Luke Skywalker (pilot), Wedge (pilot), Han, Chewy, Leia and R2D2. They just added the minifigs to justify the expesive price. As with all Star Wars Lego sets, they are much bigger when built that they look in pictures.

Thanks for the advice, guys.

In other news, my mate showed me how much of a doofus I am. I have been opening Lego with a knife when he showed me all I have to do is use the etched in cuts to open it. :o

I've seen the following at the Target toy sale recently and am wondering what were the RRPs of these if anyone can help. The prices I've spotted them for are in brackets:

8108 Mobile Devastator ($72)
7707 Striking Venom ($40)
7713 Bridge Walker vs. White Lightning ($64)
7721 Combat Crawler X2 ($40)

Anyone seen Striking Venom or Combat Crawler X2 in any Sydney Targets? I've been to 8 different Targets, none have these in stock. Or any folks in Melbourne wanna grab Striking Venom and Combat Crawler X2 for me while they are on sale? I can transfer funds as soon as you get them and of course, I'll cover shipping as well. Or, if you wanna do a trade, Sydney stores have Exo-Force on sale which include:

Golden Guardian $30
Bridge Walker vs White Lightning $32
Golden Tower $40
Aero Booster $20
Gate Assault $32
Sonic Phantom $30

PM or reply to this thread if interested.

Yea, they usually never have the set name, just the set number on the boxes.

I just punch it into peeron usually, or google works too, as in "lego 6870". That will give enough hits to tell me it's the space probe launcher.

For some strange reason, the US sets have the name of the set on the boxes. But then again, they also have their own production facilities whereas we all get euro stock.

That's what they've done since the Vintage era of Space. Makes me jealous as when we were kids we had to name them ourselves and always came up with lame names. 924 was the first Cruiser. Galaxy Commander was known as the 2nd Cruiser.

I'm not sure what the point of this thread is now but I just wanted to post why I love the Aero Booster (8106):

Normally those jetpacks are pointing right backwards Gundam style but they have so much articulation that you can pose it in so many different ways. I scored another cheap set today for $15 since the box was badly damaged and potentially parts could be missing. Borgeman saw me in my brilliant persuasive form. I'm unstoppable these days! :D But yeah, I love 8106. Great for parts, great on it's own.

Guess this is probably the best place to ask this...

Has anyone got any Spongebob Lego in Target stores anymore?
I wanted to get the bus and Rocket sets (3830 and 3831) for my gf, but I was on holidays when the sale started with no Target nearby, now the 5 Targets near me are all sold out.

If not I'll just have to order them from online.

And if anyone here knows a good place to get the older Spongebob Lego kits, please let me know!

Cheers

Very drool worthy, Fungal. I take it your disregarding the 2008 series totally? I don't see it there and can't recall u acquiring those guys. The Golden Tower looks really short which is really disappointing b/c it's supposed to be tallest building in Exo-Force city from the pics.

Oh, and to date, I must say that the Exo-Force mech with the Mobile Devastator is the best to date. It's very even and has near perfect colours and articulation. Love it to bits.

I should mention too that as of Tuesday, you should only be 3 sets away. ;)

Actually I do have all the 2008 sets - they were the first sets I got (see non-TF acquisitions thread). But they are of a different theme (jungle) so I've kept them separate. Once I get all the sets, I'll be setting up a super massive battle scene with them all. Cant wait for the 2 sets on their way. :D

$99.99 though.

I personally don't like the nose on it, but looking at it, it appears to be very "classic" in the bricks it uses.

And as a note, I noticed that target are using price stickers again.

If you had said flounder..... then I'd have to say you were jealous.

But to be minifig friendly, they'd have to create huge "pull away" sections with the classic bricks. Or larged hinged sections. All in all it would be pretty inpractical.

Also it shows how well, crap it looks by not using the newer curved pieces too. I'm too used to seeing the new city jets and cargo planes which are minifig friendly.

This one is more of a display/model piece.
