Aww nuts, I was gonna make a thread for this month's acquisitions and call it "January Jackpots" - cos every year we don't seem to have an alliteration for January's acquisition thread like we do with some other months (e.g. December decadence).

I don't normally do pics but I guess this one's kinda special. As you can see he's pretty beat up, sheds chrome like a real cat sheds hair, and his legs are really loose at the hip, so if possible I'll probably send him off to one of our customiser crew at some point for some TLC and purtification.
Pics are front view, rear view, close up rear view to show his 'battle damage', and one of Ravage and MP10.

Odie: Those aren't the original colours for Ravage's guns either. Someone's painted those silver. Here (http://niyari.kt.fc2.com/cg_dir/dialy/1999/10/d991016_12.jpg) is what the guns should look like. Shouldn't be that hard to strip the paint off them. Ah well, guess we know why that toy was cheap. :D At least the damage is only cosmetic. :) Btw, did you get his tail/weapon? (the same tail-weapon that comes with Transmetal Cheetor, but in a different colour - looks like this (http://tfbaka.de-blog.jp/1dai/images/2009/06/23/photo_8.jpg) and this (http://tfbaka.de-blog.jp/.shared/image.html?/photos/uncategorized/2009/06/23/photo_36.jpg). I also assume that his jets (http://tfbaka.de-blog.jp/.shared/image.html?/photos/uncategorized/2009/06/23/photo_15.jpg) are still in tact?

<looks at pics again> Ah yes, I can see that now. Damn, that sucks. :( Cosmetic damage can be fixed or concealed, by physical damage... especially snipped tabs like that... ouch. At least he can still hold the guns, but I imagine they don't clip into his legs well?

Gah... reminds me of what I stupidly did to my M.A.S.K. toys when I was a child - I snipped off the "clips" under the masks to make them look more like the cartoon... and of course, they don't fit on properly without them!

Cat
5th January 2012, 01:23 AM
Personally, I'd be tempted to just leave the guns as is. It doesn't look like a terribly bad paintjob on them, from the pics. Shame about the clips, but again, for that price, I'd still be happy enough with it.

But yeah, I'd definitely be getting an experienced customiser to give it a full TLC treatment program.

Once you smash the toy into tiny pieces then you won't need to look at the scratches! :p

Kinda like when people tell me they have a headache, and I say "Take your head off. You won't have a headache anymore and your neck can enjoy a pleasant breeze." ;)

For $15 that is still a bargain. This is a very expensive figure after all. The tail may be missing but you have the guns which are exclusive to this figure! But why are they silver? Is that a custom job or something? They are supposed to be a creamy grey.

On top of that, despite his flaws, he looks structurally complete so it's very much a doable restoration job. You can get a tail from TM2 Cheetor and repaint it.

Very awesome overall!

Very awesome overall! He has the tail, it's just been painted black and is pretty flaky is all. Whoever had him last did a pretty poor job of customising him, including mauling the guns and painting them silver. I don't mind the colour changes since they're easy to fix, but the fact the gun barrels have had parts of them cut off is pretty aggravating. Seriously, who mauls a Metals X-9 fer crying out loud?
The tail and body can be repainted pretty easily, the hip/leg joints are easy to tighten up, but replacing those gun barrels is gonna be a nightmare.

X-9 was never really a grail of mine and I was quite happy with the CHUGUR Ravage for the Odieverse, but for 1050 Yen I wasn't gonna pass up the Metals version and now that I've got him I want to see him done justice dammit. If I can find a set of replacement X-9 barrels and/or weapons from another toy that can be modded into similar barrels I'll see if one of the good-at-customising crew here can fix him up and maybe even improve on him. If I try doing it I'll probably just make things worse.:(
If he was in halfway decent shape I'd leave him as is, but since someone's already given him a going over I figure I might as well get him fixed up properly and given a quality show-accuracy treatment.

I suspect the last owner was trying to make the toy more "show akkurate" (*sigh*) (-_-) As you can see here (http://tfwiki.net/w2/images2/8/8a/BWRavage_introduction.jpg) Ravage's guns never had those side clips in the cartoon - they just magically^magnetically attached to Ravage's hips like this (http://tfwiki.net/w2/images2/1/18/Agenda_1_Ravage_attention.jpg). Ravage's legs are identical (mouldwise) to Transmetal Cheetor's, and Takara engineers took advantage of the fact that his legs happened to have those grooves and added those side clips on the guns so that they can clip onto the legs. It's actually a really cool feature of the toy considering that it's reverse-engineered from TM Cheetor and based on a show model that wasn't initially intended to be made into a toy.

So yeah... sucks how someone's gone and mauled what was a pretty cool feature of the toy - but at least it can still clip onto the wrists and have him hold the guns. :/ Are they so badly mauled that they can't clip onto the legs at all or do they just attach really loosely?

but replacing those gun barrels is gonna be a nightmare.
Indeed... those guns were especially made for that toy alone. The only other toy that has them is Transmetal Tigatron, who's a limited BotCon exclusive toy!

Honestly, if I were in your position I would either:
a/ Keep this toy as a placeholder until I find another Ravage in gooderer condition (although apparently they sell for stupid prices now)
b/ Just keep this toy, strip off the paint on the tail and guns and well... yeah - display the toy with the guns in hands, or alternatively use something like Blu-Tac to help keep the guns holstered if I want to display or play with the toy with the guns in that position.

I'd be inclined to go with Option B

If you ever find a good X-9 Ravage and wish to sell this one, I will be happy to buy. The gun barrels would be a challenge but I see the figure as a very possible restoration job specially when he is 'complete' with all parts and accessories.

There aren't as many of this figure around and that with demand has caused it to command high market prices limiting it's availability to fans. Adding this one back even with the inevitable 'reverse customization' job on the guns would be good.

I guess this falls into one of the somewhat 'controversial' areas of modifying or changing a toy with limited availability and high demand. I am personally against the concept of modifying vintage and rare figures as that Ravage basically means 'one less for the world to enjoy' in it's original state. I understand that it's a person's right to do with their property as they wish and respect that but that doesn't change how I feel when I see a rare toy being 'destroyed' to make another.

So yeah... sucks how someone's gone and mauled what was a pretty cool feature of the toy - but at least it can still clip onto the wrists and have him hold the guns. :/ Are they so badly mauled that they can't clip onto the legs at all or do they just attach really loosely? They do clip to the legs, but pretty poorly. He'll only be displayed in robot mode with the barrels attached to the guns anyway, but as it is it bugs me enough that I'd like to find replacement barrels. They don't have to be from X-9 or Botcon Tigatron, if I can find a figure with similarly sized/shaped pistols from a different toyline or collectible figure that can be cut off and modded as replacement barrels that's fine too.

Honestly, if I were in your position I would either:
a/ Keep this toy as a placeholder until I find another Ravage in gooderer condition (although apparently they sell for stupid prices now)

I'd be inclined to go with Option BGetting a new one is a bit too costly and difficult for my liking - I found one for US $100 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Transformers-Beast-Wars-Ravage-Action-Figure-/290652159776?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43ac37ff20) which I'd be OK with, except of course the seller only ships to the US. I'm tossing up a few options. Either get someone to restore it and do up some new barrels from whatever aforementioned similar guns I/they can find - still costly but worth it all things considered; or see if I can trade it for a grail of my own.
Unfortunately - or happily subject to how you look at it - what with my being in Osaka and having a decent wage the only real grail I have left is a Classics Ultra Magnus to fill out my empty City Commander armour, and one of those is almost as costly and hard to find as a new/replacement X-9. All the other major wants I had I've picked up over the past two years, and given how beat up he is it's hard to see anyone who didn't have BW Ravage as a major want going for that.
So right now it's looking like finding someone to pay to do him up right, and hanging onto him for my own collection. Ravage was one of my favourite characters from G1 and he's a nice piece to have after all.
If you ever find a good X-9 Ravage and wish to sell this one, I will be happy to buy. The gun barrels would be a challenge but I see the figure as a very possible restoration job specially when he is 'complete' with all parts and accessories.

The only reason I'm OK with having this one fixed up and modded is 'cos someone had already done the dirty on him when I got him. I just wish I had the skill and workspace to do it properly myself.
In the unlikely situation I see another one in good nick for a decent price and subsequently let this one go I'll put him up for sale/trade and let you know. Aside from the guns it's just loose hip joints and a new paintjob, so he'd be pretty easy to restore without too much hassle.

Sooo pumped to have this guy in his Wreckers form, the legendary Guzzle!! I couldn't show him without his buddy, Kup. ;)

ARGH I can't find Guzzle anywhere. He looks awesome! Keeping it in theme...

My first acquisition for the year and for the past 6 months: Legends Roadbuster, pictured with his Wreckers buddies:

I believe Kmart's are the best place to try for Guzzle. I got mine while on Xmas break in QLD but I'll let you know if I find any here in Perth. :)

As far as I'm aware it was not. I was lucky enough to find one at Botcon last year, to top it off it turned out to be the Japanese release with better platic colours.

I bought a lot there, and at other times, my opening rate is a lot slower than my acquisition rate has been over the last couple years, I'm becoming a misb collector without even trying:(:o

These guys are in excellent condition are perfect replacements for my broken and incomplete older toys.
Megatron is seriously really really nice looking. I've transformed him once already and the arm joints that are notorious for breaking are VERY tight so i'm thinking he's staying in robot mode for the rest of his life.

BTW if anyone wants a Depth Charge missing a missile and one of his discs and a TM Megatron that needs reparing I can probably let them have it for a very good price.

Aw man, I went to TRU in Namba Parks today and saw various TFs that we don't have in Australia, including DotM Deluxe Quejack... so badly wanted to buy him, but Odie already got it for me (and I'll be collecting that with some other toys I asked him to get me at the upcoming Osaka meet :P). DotM Voyager Optimus Prime w/ trailer looks really nice in truck mode, but the trailer is essentially just a trailer that opens up... kinda like original G1 Prime's trailer, only less because there is no real Combat Deck and no Roller car. Bah. Then I went to Bic Camera and saw some more toys I wanted... really tempted by to get Chronicles Megatron, but then I couldn't justify shelling out over 8000JPY to get a repaint of a toy I already have (two different versions of no less) and to be stuck with another Voyager DOTM Megatron that I don't really want. I could go on for ages about the things here that has been tempting me but I've had to force myself to pass up on, but you guys don't wanna hear about that, this is an acquisitions thread, not a ... um... not acquisitions thread! :P

So I was at Bic Camera and I thought hey, if I spend 3000JPY or more on a Transformer I can get one of those stupid but rare exclusive United Minicons! Dark Steel was tempting, but he was 2500JPY, so I would have to purchase another 500JPY's worth of TF and I looked around for like a keychain or some other cheap piece of TF merchandise to tip me over, but alas there were none. Didn't want to get Chronicles Megatron for reasons stated above. There was also a Voyager TF Prime Optimus Prime there too, but I passed on that for the same reason I passed on Que. Then there was that variant Mickey Mouse Transformer... about 3300JPY... I ermed and ummed and deliberated heaps, then finally caved and bought it. As predicted I had to remind the person serving me about the United Mini-Con campaign (as I've already heard from fans in Japan, a lot of staff don't consciously think about the campaign unless you tell them - there's no signage or anything that tells customers about it). And at first the guy tries to tell me that Disney Label Transformers aren't "real Transformers" and that he didn't think they'd count... I should stress that he was in NO way rude in the way that he said this (anyone who's ever been to Japan will know that customer service here is NEVER rude!) - he just said it politely and matter of factly... I told him that the campaign requires a Transformers purchase of 3000JPY or more and that it was a Transformer that cost over 3000JPY. He agreed and gave me United Aimless. :)

So all that trouble for a lousy MiniCon repaint  And of a Targetmaster for which there is no Classicsverse partner for! I mean, I like having United Fracas because he goes with Scourge... but there's not Classicsverse Misfire! So I don't even know who I'm gonna display Aimless with on my Classicsverse Decepticon shelves! Ah well... it's my first ever Osaka TF purchase. :D

Hope you've got a decent budget for tomorrow @Goki, we're hitting up the specialty stores.;)
On a different note, you've got another Aimless coming tomorrow courtesy of some of the various TFs I've grabbed you. Maybe find a TF who's meant to have drill hands or something. I've got all three but they're a bit 'meh' IMO, so I'll probably just sell them somewhere down the track.

I think the last items I bought for my collection were the Optimus Primal and Megatron 10th Anniversary figures that came in the snazzy double pack which was some years now. No, wait, it was TM2 Tripredacus Agent, but even that was 6 months or so ago.

So for me drinks, as they say, are few and far between.

In November I graduated from the University of Tasmania with a Bachelor of Contemporary Arts, majoring in Theatre, a three year course that I completed in only 2.5 years - a feat the school will never see the likes of again. In December we had Christmas, and yesterday was, for those of you who noticed, my Birthday. 26 for those interested.

So as a combined Grad/Xmas/B'Day present to myself, I decided to track down the only figures that have intrigued me over the past few years of Transformers.

That's right...

http://i1105.photobucket.com/albums/h357/Rh1n0x/29bdd349.jpg

Henkei Dinbot and Cheetor!

Cheetor is a great new take on the character, but Dinobot is, for lack of a better word - Magnificent!

All I've done is look at them since getting them out of their plastic prisons.

THE LINE MUST BE CONTINUED!

I'm not asking much, just do the first 10 BW characters, or if you're really kind, do the 14 figures from Season 1, but these are just tremendous! A set of them would be just incredible!

Primus, if you're out there, you can't let it stop here. I'm rehooked but have nowhere to throw my money!

it's just nice to be back in the game, albeit briefly. Getting something you're after is a really nice feeling.

Trying to decipher the Japanese instructions was fun. Trying to make heads or tails of the comic was impossible. The sad bit being that it's now canon whatever it was.

Indeed it is and I think had I of won the X-9 auction earlier today I'd be in a similar state as yourself dude; but when The General arrived today, he put a smile on my face quick smart! :D

I always liked Cicadas as a kid (Pretty much every Arthropod I loved and still do :p) because we have a couple of pine trees that they like to latch onto near our house and I always used to grab the shells they'd leave behind thinking how cool it was they went from literally one form to another... a real-life Transformer.

Isn't there the repainted ( more mecha looking) Optmus and Megs on the way for the generations or whatever they call it line? I think its a repaint of the two pack that was a release from TF Cybertron series.....Tjough personally I would prefer if they chose to release new mold for Generations line of BW Megs and Optimal - based on the TM2 version - Dragon Megs and Multichanger OpOp.

Ok. That's not all entirely true. I didn't actually run out anywhere - I used ebay instead.
Also neither of those figures are rubbish. They are in fact both brilliant and I really like them. Optimus blew me away. Looks fantastic in robot mode, & I dig the matrix gimmick. He fills a hole in my collection - I don't really have a "movie accurate" prime. (I only have the first movie voyager which while it is a good figure, is hardly screen accurate).
And in case anyone is wondering, no I do not like the moon & stars paint job!

The great thing about the BW gestalts is that they all have complete self contained components and parts. So unlike G1 gestalts (with the notable exception of Lio Kaiser) where the gestalt form is reliant on detachable (and losable) accessories, everything you need to combine Magnaboss and Tripredacus is built into the individual figures themselves! Even if you lose all their accessories/weapons, you can still combine them to form Tripredacus and Magnaboss (it just means that they have no weapons). This is really different from G1 gestalt teams like the Constructicons who absolutely cannot combine with accessories and even the Scramble City gestalts which can still interconnect without accessories can't truly complete their gestalt robot forms without the head, chest panel(s), fists and feet ('cept Defensor's head which is built into Hot Spot).

1989's Lio Kaiser was the first Transformer gestalt to introduce almost all of its gestalt parts being self-contained in the individual figures - only the head is a detachable component... but everything else is in-built, which was a really clever design feature, especially for its time. The Beast Wars gestalts took this concept and improved on it further since ALL of its gestalt parts are in-built (and even its weapons have storage compartments anyway); so there's really nothing for people to leave lying around.

The original Car Robot/RiD gestalts also carried on with this concept - JRX/Railracer & Build King/Landfill all have self-contained gestalt parts... but then it kinda took a backward step with Super Link/Energon where their gestalts went back to using detachable "Energon" accessories for the hands and feet (allowing the limbs to be interchangable - but then again, Build King/Landfill's limbs are interchangeable too without the need for detachable accessories). IMO we haven't really had any decent gestalt figures since CR/RiD (except ROTF Legends Devastator, who's a very nicely designed gestalt figure for its size IMO -- a helluva lot better than the fail-gestalt that is Combiner Class Devastator). Yeah alright, the Power Core Combiners all have self-contained parts too, but the individual limbformers are just lame toys (being more like drones than proper TF action figures).

I personally miss the days when we had awesome gestalt toys like Magnaboss, Tripredacus, JRX/Railracer and BuildKing/Landfill. :(

I can appreciate that. Gobots monstrous is one of my favorite combiners for that exact reason. I'll have to look into leo kaiser. I thought he was just like the rest. (I had a K.O. trainbot Possibly raiden that came with a robot frame that the trains were just sorta attached to , I ended up giving it away. Thanks man, he really is a cool figure and though I already owned him, my own had busted sword/missile pegs which necessitated his purchase but it really didn't take much more convincing as General Cicadacon, along with his other Council Members, is just such a sweet figure but so too are the rest of the trio of figures; I honestly don't mind having doubles of them because of that, although I'd really prefer to get my hands on a complete Tripledacus (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Tripledacus)... :o

Spot on. None of these Voltron-esk combiners of G1 when it came to BW, give me some impossible combination!

I love these guys incredibly too, but I do still like the obsolete technologies of the G1 gestalts from both an aesthetic and narrative stand point as they really parallel the advancement of RL PC Technologies - Cybertronian Robotics is a hugely rich Sci-Fi playground to my mind. ;)

Ooh yeah, very nice find with Hatchet dude, as with Rodimus and the others. ;):)
(I really dig Hatchet :D)

All this talk about BW I thought I'd see what tf's were left at the local antique store.
This was the last of them (bar 2 role playing swords). Why does he have 2 faces in robot mode? looks solid though.

I absolutely adore this figure, just not that particular one's deco :o, as it has awesome proportions and is armed to the teath - as a Humanoid Robot it has no equal... Which is also why it cops so much flak too as it to some people barely even transforms but as a purely fun Toy it has few equals. ;):)

Alright!!. I'll f#$%ing do it man! I'll open him. ( I need to collect another line like I need a hole in the head) ..... Here goes.....We need a smiley with a look of concentration.

Geigerrock-2: Many of the early Beast Wars toys came with alternate mutant robot heads or masks. If you look at the way Tarantulas and Blackarachnia appear in Season 1 - they have different looking heads despite the fact Blackarachnia is a straight up repaint of Tarantulas. This is because Tarantulas' show model uses his "mutant" head configuration whereas Blackarachnia uses the "robot" head config.

Couldn't agree with you more dude although I'm quite partial to General Sea Clamp too, poor old General Ramhorn is the worst but then he also sacrifices the most for the Council's combining ability. ;)
If only Mainframe had had the time to replicate the proper models into the show eh?
(It'd of been even cooler if they'd been able to narratively work in both Gestalts too :()
That would only happen if Hasbro told them to. All the toys that appeared in the BW cartoon only did so at Hasbro's behest. It's possible that Hasbro never asked Mainframe to put Tripredacus into the cartoon, but Mainframe needed to create some characters to dispatch Ravage and took advantage of the Tripredacus characters.

I imagine that one thing that would have discouraged Hasbro from asking Mainframe to introduce gestalts into the cartoon would have been the cost... having to build three or six new Transformers - each with two character models (one for each mode) and then on top of that a third model where they transform and merge into Magnaboss and Tripredacus... I know that the Transmetals had their third vehicle modes in the show, but let's face it, they're just modified configurations of their beast modes really (doesn't cost that much to say add some jets, wings and a tailfin on Cheetor for his flight mode). Getting Transformers to drastically transform and combine wouldn't come cheap I imagine.

Oh yeah dude, Tripredacus (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Tripredacus) & Magnaboss (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Magnaboss) truly embody the terms Gestalt/Combiner better than any that came before or after, I still love the G1 guys though as after all the Technology has to start somewhere eh?;), if only HasTak could see it in their collective intestinal fortitudes to reawaken this seemingly dormant gimmick. :o
+1.

I'm with you Goki; I'd really like to see some modern equivalents too as someone who has owned 3 of the 4 you've mentioned here although can Buildking/Landfill really be counted?, seeing as though he/they were figures who were lumped into TFs as they were too far into production at the time when Takara decided to can Brave (Their originally intended franchise ;)).
Whether BuildKing/Landfill is a "shoe horned" gestalt or not, the end result is still the same... four Autobots who can combine into a gestalt robot (with different limb configurations) and with fully self contained gestalt parts. :)

Congrats on the newest acquisitions mate, you'd of almost bought all the DOTM stuff by now yeah? :)

Nah coz Ive got a feeling that these will be phased out as soon as TF Prime hits the shelves, then it'll be harder to find them... Im only collecting extensively the Cyberverse ones for the DOTM.... only getting a few deluxes of the line which I like - e.g. Laserbeak, the Wreckers and prolly Soundwave , depends when I see him if I like it... also I had a quiet December so I guess Im making up for it hehehehe:D:D

BEHOLD- GALVATRON!

....Energon Galvatron that is!

I have to say I'm an idiot for passing this guy up five years ago, He is...Stunning. Simply stunning.
The Energon Megatron was a fairly neat toy but the G1 Cartoon inspired paint scheme on this mold makes it shine. Like this was the toy it was born to be, the deep purples, the metallic cherry red, the translucent orange, Just an amazing toy and The Galvatron my Generations Cylconus and Scourge, and we fans deserve.

Sadly I have no idea how to make the big impressive embedded pictures you'll just have to settle for tiny ones with captions-

Photo 1: GALVATRON!

There's been a few modern Grimlocks.

There's been a Masterpiece one, a Classics one (which is closer to the Pretender Grimlock than the original form), there was an Energon one in a 2pack with Swoop, and Animated Grimlock (stylistically wouldn't really fit that well, your mileage may vary).

So there are options.

Second that question..

GoktimusPrime
21st January 2012, 01:41 AM
jazzy_josh: I'd recommend either Classics Grimlock or Masterpiece Grimlock. I wouldn't recommend Energon Grimlock at all... stylism aside, it's a seriously craptastic toy. I personally find Animated Grimlock to be fairly pedestrian... and as Cat said, just doesn't aesthetically fit with Classicsverse.

There are some different versions of Classics and MP Grimlock - but the ones that were released in Australia (and thus should be the cheapest to get I imagine) are Classics and Hasbro's Masterpiece Grimlock. Other possibly more expensive versions are Henkei Grimlock (same mould as Classics Grimlock but some bits of it are chromed) and two different TakaraTOMY MP Grimlocks - different decos and accessories.

If you're gunning for Masterpiece Grimlock, then here's my advice:
+ Hasbro version: recommended if you want a toy in more toy-accurate colours, also the same colours used in the UK Marvel comics. Comes with the King Grimlock crown seen in the G1 Marvel comics.
+ TakaraTOMY version, regular retail: recommended if you want a MP Grimlock that looks more like the cartoon - toy comes with the 'brain scanner' and 'waiter' accessories that Grimlock used in Season 3.
+ TakaraTOMY version, limited exclusive: recommended if you want a US Marvel comic-accurate looking version - colours of the toy based on the way Grimlock was coloured by Nel Yomtov. Comes with the King Grimlock crown.

All the MP Grimlocks have an LED gimmick which allows his sword to light up in robot mode and the eyes can change colour between blue and red in dino or robot mode (so you can have toy/comic accurate red eyes or cartoon-like blue eyes). But be aware that MP Grimlock has the most simplistic engineering out there for a Masterpiece Transformer, and yet this toy was never cheap, even when it first came out. I'd recommend checking out someone else's MP Grimlock IRL for yourself before splashing out money on this toy.

You don't want to see his library really...it's like all over your face and what you see is not even 1/3 of what there is...
You say that like it's a bad thing. ;)

I'm amazed that people can even still post acquisition posts in the past few months considering how FEW new toy releases we've had in stores since Dark of the Moon came out! I'd post acquisitions on this thread more often if freakin' Hasbro released more stuff!

Sutton

Oh, and Sutton who makes those G1 heads for the Universe Combaticons?

Onslaught's is a straight G1 Onslaught head. I've left it so it detaches and hides in the cabin headmaster-style so it's not visible in vehicle mode.

Brawl's is from PCC Heavytread, I was initially going to try the mod to turn him into a leg, but it makes Bruticus' knee look a little funny - I decided the combined form takes precedence over the individual bots.

Vortex's is custom-molded from an old Energon Duststorm, resculpted and with a visor added - not 100% happy with it but it'll do until I find a better replacement, which is tricky because it needs to be quite small. I also unscrewed the cockpit which now attaches to his back in robot mode - no clips, just held in place by friction over the spark crystal thingy - and painted the chest purple to make him more passable.

I think there's a guy on TFW who was making custom G1 heads for these guys at one point.

Tallestblue

Good to know.
And while I've been having fun with lots of Transformers from time gone by I've made my first modern puchase in quite a while. Toys R Us exclusive Masterpiece Rodimus Prime. A very nice toy and a respectable shout out to Hot Rod in G1 toy colours and honestly not nearly as fiddly as I was expecting. the sale price just made it impossible to pass up.
Now, Rodimus doesn't impress me as much as MPO4 or Grimlock but the real reason to buy this toy is clearly Offshoot. I realise people didn't like Takara's trailer for the Space Winnebago mode but I'm a little annoyed it's not included here. BUT Offshoot more than makes up for that. He's an amazing little guy. An excellent G1 Targetmaster representation with great articulation and tons of personality in the little guy. If you've been of two minds wether or not to pick up Roddy at Toys R Us now is the time to do it. Go on! Go! Get him!

They were bought from Big Bad Toy store:

Thanks Skully, He has always been a difficult one to find. At one point kup, HD and I were after the very same figure on ebay (I have it now- thanks to the other two bowing out). Good thing we worked it out ourselves thru pms so I got first crack, kup went for a different one and HD with his own usual lucky finds ended up with a minty looking one, so everything worked out. By this time though I was left with this second one that Ive been putting together for ages, buying the pieces piecemeal at toyfairs and ebay. I couldn't bring myself to sell it coz of all the effort Ive put into completing (and still completing albeit not actively) the second figure. Ive only got the little gun left hehehe :D

Nah, those red gun barrels swing around to the back into that groove (or can even detach), and those sections they swing back into THEN swing around to the front (to form the main tower).

That is indeed a prototype of Fort Max in the catalogue... as most were pre-production figures, for the catalogues to be printed up and packaged with the toys during their production.
The real Fort Max can be seen here (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Image:G1FortressMaximus_toy.jpg), which does show the barrels folded back.

I thought I was complete with Robot Heroes. I was going through them the other night with Arcee, and realised that I couldn't see Blaster or Thrust.

Went though the Mong Kok area as these are the better shops and plus its just down the road from my hotel. Been through many toy shops catering from the Anime/Manga to statues and finally some G1 goodness which was spread out.

I was lucky to pick up a few items such as a MISB Takara Armada Thundercracker from one shop then went down a floor to another one which I bought a PE-09 Ninja. Over to another district was some more smaller shops and HD spotted two MISB Return of Convoy MT-3 and MT-9.

Im really enjoying this Cyberverse Ironhide figure it's got a complex transformation for such a tiny figure... they really have gone a long way in engineering the little dudes transformations from what it was from the first legions version ( which is G1ish in simplicity):D... Looking forward to more Cyberverse figures and Playsets!

*snip*

That is an awesome shot Liege, you've likely made the TakTom engineers very proud should they see it dude - that's exactly how they envisioned that line/scale of figures been utilised! :D:cool:
Ironhide certainly stands out though, he seems quite big for his class.

Thanks to Verno I have TM2 TigerHawk and Cybershark.

I loved Cybershark when i was younger but during amove lost a few of his parts. Now he's complete again! And With Tigerhawk TM Airrazor can take to the skies with her long lost love and we can all pretend Beast Machines never happened.

Very glad to hear they've arrived safely in your hands TB! :D
Tigerhawk is 10 shades of awesome and Cybershark is really cool too IMO with his gnarly grin and head shooting gimmick, my own has a little issue with balance though - I think he needs slightly larger/longer heel spurs, what do you think?

This one is embarassing.

I thought I was complete with Robot Heroes. I was going through them the other night with Arcee, and realised that I couldn't see Blaster or Thrust.

I don't know if I do own them, or somehow missed them?
So either way, I bought another set, which arrived today.

So now I have peace at mind.
Seriously. Once I noticed, it bugged the hell out of me.

Isn't it annoying when you've thoughts for ages that you've got something complete or a collection is complete and you start to find holes? :o
Congrats on filling said hole though dude, hopefully that's the last unexpected gap eh? ;):)

.Just come back from a night out with HD walking the shops of Hong Kong. Man it has been an eye opener on how busy it is at night.

*snip*

I was lucky to pick up a few items such as a MISB Takara Armada Thundercracker from one shop then went down a floor to another one which I bought a PE-09 Ninja. Over to another district was some more smaller shops and HD spotted two MISB Return of Convoy MT-3 and MT-9.

Couldn't of had a better guide I reckon ;):p, congratulations on the finds dude - I imagine they were very much worth the journey. ;)

Here are some of my stuff, back from Singapore... (includes all my '84 pre-rub figures; left their boxes in SG though).

*snip*

Holy crap HD!
Congratulations on the E-Hobby figures dude, but would that photo now suggest that your collections are 1 step closer to being all in the one place?

I know that Artfire also holds some special regards for you dude, what I read on your Blog is just awesome - A very good mate indeed I'd say. ;):)
For Pre-Rubs, they look incredibly immaculate HD, you've done exceptionally well to keep them in such condition - Why did you decide to move them over from SG?

These just arrived in the post

*snip*

Generations Sky Shadow
Generations Junkheap

Argh! :D
I really need to organise getting a hold of that pair, too many things coming up in the immediate future though :o; congratulations BigPenney! ;)

Words cannot express how completely full of win this guy is...Such a fantastic toy!
*snip*

Oh man,
A huge congratulations DD on acquiring that awesomely cool figure, I reckon I've got a good idea how much you've been looking forward to his arrival - Good on you mate. ;);)

...

I wonder how many pages this is going to span... :p

Today's acquisitions were technically made on Sunday and Yesterday, but regardless:

http://i1032.photobucket.com/albums/a409/Darkone666au/2012%20Acquisitions/JAN-30-ACQ-01.jpg

I found the below at my local Flee Markets on Sunday; I couldn't believe my luck as one never finds TFs there any more, let alone this many and this good of a condition!
All up the lot cost me $28, $12.50 each for Armada Overload and RID Optimus Prime (Super Fire Convoy in the Hurstyverse ;)) and $3 for the rest!:D

Congrats on getting a hold of the FE figures Odey, they're going to be in silly amounts of demand now that the US won't be getting them at all/any more. ;)
I'm not liking either of the upcoming United Megatrons myself, is Deluxe Unicron as anticipated as what I've read/heard would seem to suggest though? :confused:Damn that's a long post and hefty haul. Nice.

FE stuff still isn't too hard to find over here, if my job allowed it I'd be buying them up and selling them on and maybe rubbing some of the more whiny Americans' noses in it.. As it is the contract says no.:(

Honestly, I gots no idea if Unicron is a high-demand figure or not. I'd have thought not what with the G1-y planet one they released not too far back but if you've got word on the ground/net otherwise I'd go with that over my flu-ridden ignorance.

Absolutely. The only thing missing is another handgun. Good thing I've got 4 coming. :D These Prime toys have totally reinvigorated my interest for TFs. Last year was pretty sparse but there's a lot to be excited about!

Oh wow Sharky!
Those look just stunning mate, just stunning! - Sunstreaker and Punch/Counter-Punch look delicious, so too Targetmaster Blurr! :D:cool:

Quickswitch really does feel like he's missing something to me, I know there's quite a bit of speculation that he was originally intended to be a six-changing headmaster (Which would've been obscenely cool!) but I don't know... I can't quite put my finger on it but congrats on getting such a pristine example of him man - When are we going to see some new collection pics eh? ;):D

*snip*

*SNIP**

some very very good grabbings (and Bargains) there yourself mr Hursty..

yeah the sunstreaker was a great pick up the rest is just a bonus.. qwickswitch does look like he should of been a headmaster the head and chest appear to ressemble this make up..

as for the collection it is scattered all over the place at the moment.. it isnt in any shape for pics. i had to put off the cabinets delivery as the front yard is quite dangerous for individuals carrying 2m glass cabinets. at least until i get the driveway concreted.....

so for the time being you will have to imagine lots of toys on shelves (instead of in boxes)

i cant wait to get them all out.

Same thing in HK, there is plenty of FE stock and the Hasbro stuff is going for about $130HKD while the Takara stuff is around $190HKD.

Oh wow!
A massive congratulations here Liege, Iread how hard it is to get a hold of 1 complete Vroom in good nic; to be so close to having 2 mate is amazing, as is that Botcon Weirdwolf you've got dude as that is a figure I'd love to eventually add to my own Classicsverse collection someday. :D:cool:

How well does the mold sit alongside others from the Classicsverse dude?, does he stand out or fit in?

Yeah Vroom is kinda hard for some unknown reason to find nowadays... dunno exactly why is that since his batchmate Crossblades is easy to get ( and has more parts to loose) but yeah good thing HD, kup and me each finally found one for each :D. Well another one for me but im sure there's more out there, somewhere....

As for Weirdwolf, well, he fits right in surprisingly even though he is brightly yellow which makes him easy to spot, but the recolouring in G1 Weirdwolf's color prolly adds to how well it blends with the rest of the Generations/RTS/Classics figures ( even though as well the mold is from another line) since you kinda "expect that from him .. being weirdwolf I guess mentally I was pre tuned to expect it so he really doesnt stand out... for me, hehehe, if that makes any sense....

Ive yet to get a hold of Botcon Doublepunch as I really like the crazy color plus he was my first ( well only actually:p) Actionmaster elite figure so I kinda like to have the "updated" version even if it is a reuse of a mold from another line.

CONGRATS on X9 ravage man!!!:D:D:D:D

So you don't have any issues of the toes flipping in too easily or vehicle being too low (and thus the undercarriage scraps as the car rolls) during toy play?

The toes on mine are fine (always hold their position and don't flop) but yes, the front tires don't make full contact with solid ground so he isn't the best roller. He's pretty good at scootin' around on the arm of my couch here though. :p What are your thoughts on Vehicon, Gok?

Oh man,
A huge congratulations DD on acquiring that awesomely cool figure, I reckon I've got a good idea how much you've been looking forward to his arrival - Good on you mate. ;);)

Thanks Hursti! I usually transform new Transformers a couple of times and then put them on the shelf but I can't stop playing with this thing! It's just too much fun, the legs in particular are superbly designed (very Virtual On!).

Your latest haul is totally epic! Glad the Beast Wars Ravage arrived safely and he looks to be in tip top condition. :D

Haha, awesome mate. They'll look pretty intimidating as a gang, what hope do the poor Autobots have! I just want one more so I can recreate the scene with Cliffjumper being hauled in front of Screamer!

AWESOME acquisition entry Hursti! That's how it's done. Love the pics.

DD: Extremely jealous of the TFP Vehicon due to his Lockdown look and feel. Awesome in both modes. Waiting patiently for the local release but wondering if it will be cheaper to import.

WELL Stompy my good man, I do very much recommend Takara Vehicon, it's a stunning toy, however, have a look-see at the Hasbro release (Eradicon?) which will be turning up on our shores shortly...The show likeness is uncanny!

For my part, I'm not really getting the FE Vehicon love. Starscream is amazing, but the Vehicon feels very average to me, hard to pose well, fiddly to transform, and the lower legs look kinda chicken-y a la Movieverse Screamer.
I'm probably doing something wrong somewhere.:o

We should probably get a review thread for him up btw, I couldn't find one in the Reviews section.

That's fair enough, hopefully you'll find the Hasbro one more to your liking! One trick I think Takara missed, don't you think it would be cool if the back kibble clipped off and could be used as a riot shield? The car windshield would be the part he looks through while protecting himself from Autobot laser-fire. :) Well, I think it would be cool, and it would make his bot mode even better!

Perhaps he was the least popular of the Mega Pretenders, hence there's less available on the secondary market? He's the only Mega Pretender who never had a canonical appearance during G1.

I'm pretty happy with it 'cept for the toes and low rolling. Very Batmobile/Green Hornet-ish. The large point spoiler kinda makes the vehicle cumbersome to carry around in your pocket though... talking about wingalings! I like how the gun sits on the bonnet in vehicle mode (goes with the whole Batman/Green Hornet feel of the toy ;))
