At News.com.au (http://www.news.com.au/entertainment/movies/harry-potter-and-the-deathly-hallows-part-2-tops-australian-box-office-figures-in-2011/story-e6frfmvr-1226232231121), a preliminary listing of last year's biggest earners at the Cinema, has Transformers 3 at second place at AU$37million... some distance behind the last Harry Potter movie at AU$52million.

It was noted that it was the year of sequels, with 7 of the top ten movies in Australia being sequels.
And a notable inclusion was an Australian movie (Red Dog), which is a rare thing in recent years.

1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 - $52.5 million
2. Transformers: Dark of the Moon - $37.3 million
3. The Hangover Part II - $32.6 million
4. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 - $28.5 million
5. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides - $27.2 million
6. Bridesmaids - $27.1 million
7. Fast & Furious 5 - $25.2 million
8. Tangled - $22.2 million
9. Red Dog - $21.4 million
10. Cars 2 - $20.1 million

The official figures are to be released mid-January.

I'm just amazed that Australia is still making movies at all any more, but I guess out of the 20 boring as bat faeces movies we produce every 5-10 years; at least 4 or 5 aren't all that bad... ;)
