Hey guys im thinking of joining for the runabout and runamuck figures. I have been told maybe you may not be able to get both on one memebership so some i have heard have signed up for 2 to make sure they get both. anyone else heard this? I have never signed up before not sure how it works.

I believe its something like $70USD to get an international membership and like half if your in the US.

Has anyone tried to use one of those US forwarding services to get it cheaper????

If you join the club on one membership, you will get the club exclusive figure which is included in your membership. (Say runabout)

Later this year they will make available for purchase the two purchaseable club exclusives which is shattered glass drift and the other of the pair of runabout or runamuck, say runamuck, I can't remember which is included in the membership and which we have to purchase.

You can order as many of the two purchaseable exclusives when they are released, though postage is high and if last years exclusives are any indicator they will probably run out in a day or two or maybe a week.

If you join twice you will just cover your membership for another 12 months. and you will still only get one free membership figure for this year. but you would also be prepaid for the following years exclusive also.

you will need to join before a certain date to be eligable for this years membership free figure so check the transformers club website for details.

I hope this helps. it's all spelled out pretty clearly on their website.

Ah ok thanks for the reply.

So when you join you get the club exclusive which is Runamuck and then you get to purchase Runabout.

Question when you join the club the Runamuck is automatically posted to you? Its the shipping cost to purchase the other 2 figures is when it gets expensive right?

I have read the site just wanted to make sure. Thanks :)

Yep, that's right. These days, the actual membership is good value, but shipping on other items remains extortionate.

hmm makes me wonder if the membership is only $70USD and that includes a SHIPPED figure overseas with it and all the comics why do they charge so much for shipping when you buy other exclusive figures?????

* I just figured maybe they make extra money from international sales???? By saying its for shipping?

UltraMarginal

I really do wonder how they justify the postage for that stuff.

What was the month which was recommended for a new member to join so that he can get the exclusive figure and also start the new comic story arc?

you need to be signed up in January to make sure you're in on the comic story. maybe early feb but I wouldn't chance it.

Hmm... might have to try and get my act together on this, I'd really like to get my hands on Runamuck and Runabout; FunPub at least did something right with those 2. :o

Yep the exciting new Wings of Honor/G2 story staring Runamuck, Runabout, and Botcon toys like Clench and Cindersaur (and probably Gigatron and Metalhawk too!) starts in #43 which will come out in February.

From the website:

All new and current members who have an active membership as of March 16th, 2012 will receive our exclusive membership incentive deluxe figure... RUNAMUCK!

Which reminds me that I need to join the club.

I just joined for first time ever. Although the joining forms were a bit funny, it all went much smoother than my last attempt a couple of years ago (which was so bad it made me give up joining).

I hope the life of my membership goes equally as smooth.

The site wigged out on me the other day too, I tried again a day or so later and it was fine.

I've never used anything but Debit Mastercard/Visa.

Membership will get you only 1 of the pair. It's 'free' with the membership (including shipping). The other one...you'll have to go through the club store.

yeah i know. but its kinda pointless to buy runabout at non-members prices.... plus you probably wouldn't get preference and the shipping will hurt for the non-free one.

They'll appear on ebay eventually. Maybe wait for that?

I just can't rejoin the club.
After how they treated me, and how after all these years they can't get the basics right. I'd rather trust someone on eBay or a forum to get the toys I want this year.

Being FunPub and America? - I'd be saving around $50-$70 alone for the postage myself.

I emailed them a PDF of a scan of mine.

BTW, if you ever need to change your address, do it by email, changing your address on the website doesn't actually register anywhere on their system...

UltraMarginal
16th January 2012, 08:02 AM
If you had red all the fine print when you joined it would have talked about sending them a fax of your Drivers license and credit card before your first Purchase from the club store.

This text is as old as the club, so it's fairly outdated. As such if you want to buy anything from the store, this includes the club exclusive figures, you need to get this information to them. If you prefer you can scan it yourself and email it to them.

kup
16th January 2012, 09:20 AM
I joined and didn't send them any scan. However things seem to be churning along as the purchase is figuring in my cc statement.

I think that it's just obsolete information. The Club website isn't exactly well maintained.

UltraMarginal
16th January 2012, 12:06 PM
you don't seem to need it so much to join but for other purchases from the club store. I asked them last year if it was necessary and they said yes, so on the safe side I emailed them the scans. last thing you would want is for your order to be cancelled and then miss out on the exclusive all together except for the member exclusive.

My CC got ripped off the day after registering for the club, probably a coincidence, but might be worth keeping an eye out.

You have to do this every time you buy anything from them?

No, just the first time. it's not as bad as it sounds, still rather antiquated but I think it's their own way of proving identity to make sure they aren't selling items to someone who has stolen a Card.

Anybody in WA keen to pick up an extra set of te purchasable exclusives for me? I recently joined to get the free fig and purchase the others but this whole CC thing means I probs won't be able to pick them up myself.... I'm at work for the rest of the month and I don't really have access to a PC or scanner till I go on my R&R.... Plus I can't really watch the site for there release anyway since in theory i'll be working(though I'm supposed to be doing that now yet this iPhone provides distractions)

Here is what FunPub says about International Orders:

INTERNATIONAL ORDERS
Fun Publications, Inc. realizes that collectibles have worldwide appeal. We ship anywhere that the United States Postal Service or FedEx delivers. However, there are restrictions. Upon your first order, you will need to fax us a copy of your credit card, front and back as well as photo identification, which shows your signature to 817-448-9843. If a credit card transaction is made through our site without the fax confirmation of your identity, we reserve the right to CANCEL THE ORDER.

With the '817-448-9843' number thing, do they mean that we have to write this number with our signature? Also, it was mentioned that you can send them an email instead (much more sensible than antiquated faxes), if so, what's the email address and is it guaranteed to work? Do they acknowledge it once received?

Faxing really might be more secure. Email addresses can be hacked and old websites/techniques make me nervous that their online security practises are also old.

What they will want is you to fax a copy of some ID that has your signature on it.

Dunno about the email side of things.

Hey - is the Transformers Club a for-profit organisation? That is, do we have any idea how much money Brian Savage (CEO or whatever of Fun Publications) gets for doing... whatever he does? How much money goes back into the club and to its writers and artists? And how much are we being scalped by our own fan club?

Oilspill
2nd February 2012, 04:57 AM
I don't think they're willing to share that kind of info.

Looks like no money goes into the website though. That thing looks like something put together by a highschool student in 1995.

Not to mention the money they make off the HEAVILY over-estimated postage quotes... from $25-70 extra per order. That's huge profiteering.

I managed to get a MISB TFCC Sideburn for $70 last year on eBay; after much humming and harring I almost caved in and clicked on "Buy It Now" for a ridiculous $110. Not risking that again this year.

Having secured the price this year, the next worry is the quality of these exclusives. Had a rough run of luck collecting MISB TFCC exclusives last year - worst was a MISB Sharkticon who's backpack does not fold down properly.

And that's why I don't bother joining the club. If I happen to find a Runamuck on the secondary market at a reasonable price (say $50ish)... then I'll get it. If not, then I'll just live without it. $50 is about the most I'll pay for an exclusive DELUXE (even then I think it's rich, but I remind myself that it's limited/excloosive wateva...) -- anything beyond that and the excloosive novelty wears off me. :p
