Just arrived home from the midnight launch for the latest AAA game or console? Postie just delivered that retro game you purchased from eBay?
You get the idea fellow bots, if you've got a new game for your collection, we want to see it here!

If you got a particularly good deal, let us all know! And remember (this is most important :p), pics or it didn't happen!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm really happy with my purchases today. GAME had a buy 1 get 1 for half price sale so I picked up the below games for $45. :)

Transformers Animated: The Game (Nintendo DS)
Deathsmiles: Deluxe Edition (Xbox 360)

Got Infamous 2 from the Dick Smith clearance bin today for $20. Many games to play before I get to it but from my previous in-store play of it and the comments in the video games thread I figured it was well worth it.

For sure mate, the game is worth it for the desert stage alone! 4 player gaming heaven...For 2 player I still think the original has the edge. :)

Man I love the dreamcast. I spent soooo much time cranking Crazy Taxi! That game was GOLD!

I even got my Mum into it, although she would do alright for a while and then start laughing too much and couldn't continue...

You know what she would laugh at? The people riding in the back, and THEN she would laugh harder at them complaining... Her game skills went downhill from there, but I laughed my ass off at her... Ha! Good times, good times!:D

I had a Dreamcast years back - ended selling it on ebay to some guy in WA with 40 games for a pittance of $400. Thats one regret I'm still yet to live down (that and my Saturn with 30 games to same bloke). *sniff*

Haha, it's a pretty hilarious game hey! :D Did you play Virtua Tennis 2 much? Used to have intense battles with my friend every lunch while going to TAFE, the tantrums and controller throwing was ridiculous but god we loved it (still do). Could play that game for hours upon hours.

Some other ones I remember playing for hours on end: Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2 (the game that NFS later ripped off), Jet Set Radio, Le Mans 24 Hours (ramming was so much fun), Tech Romancer, Gigawing, MvC2, Metropolis Street Racer, Soul Calibur, Cannon Spike, Zombie Revenge, Ikaruga...To name but a few. Best console ever!

Nabbed Dragonball Z Ultimate Tenkaichi for the PS3 for the decent price of $50. Cheapest I've seen it online or in store.

Very pretty game, but lots of qte. Still not as good afighter as Super DBZ or even Budokai 3, but better than the last few games on the latest gen.

You do! :D Love seeing new acquisitions, hehe.

I never played the Dreamcast games you mentioned Hursti but I do intend to pickup Quake III as I've heard the Dreamcast port is quite glorious! And your friend sounds like a legend! :p For me, the Dreamcast was the last console that made me feel truly proud to be a gamer. It has the X-Factor! The Playstation 2 has a lot of exceptional games, for sure, but for outright fun and entertainment the Dreamcast wins hands down for me.

Wish we could go back to those glory days...The Souls series is just about the only thing that's wowed me from this current generation of consoles.

I've got both, Quake 3 is very well done, if you can get past the controls, and MK Gold whilst held back by some loading issues is probably the best version due to the extra characters and stages (MK3 church <3)

Dreamcast was definitely admirable for having such a broad range of high quality games in such a short span of time. It has a lot of good games and it's a shame the system wasn't around long enough to let developers get more out of it.

I hate the controller though, the dpad has got to be one of the worst ever (& more hate is lumped on it considering it came after the Saturn, one of the best ever!). Plus, playing fighting games, i used to get dents on the inside of my middle fingers, from bumping up against the huge expansion ports on the back! It's truly horrible for fighters since it only has the analog triggers as the 5th & 6th buttons. Was such a shame considering the wealth of fighting games it had too.

Tetsuwan Convoy
19th March 2012, 09:07 PM
Yep, i went to the effort of buying a saturn style pad for playing MVC... Aside from that though, I had no major issues with the controller and even got some use out of the analogue triggers!

Vita love from me continues with 2 excellent new games and a pic of the case that came a few weeks back!
http://i.imgur.com/ukIng.jpg

My first time playing Ninja Gaiden properly.. I once tried a 'copy' on the original Xbox many years ago but didn't give it much time... as tends to be the case when you're pirating for the sake of it. I found it too hard back then (maybe it was the duke controller!), but i'm absolutely loving it now that i've sunk some time into learning the combat system... it's still pretty damn difficult but incredibly rewarding too. Paying for games has its benefits :D

Virtua Tennis though, i have enjoyed since the original. This is definitely the nicest feeling and obviously looking version yet... i'm currently going through the world tour mode with my photo-aided create-a-character! It actually looks really good, now that i think about it should have saved a screenie of 'me' from the Vita, will do it another time! It's pretty damn full featured for launch software as well, no glaring mode omissions or anything - excellent!

So they've done Ninja Gaiden, Ninja Gaiden Black, Ninja Gaiden Sigma and now Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus? :p Who can blame Team Ninja though really, they should re-release the original every year or two it's so damn good. I played the hell out of Black and would gladly play through it again. Just wish Capcom would do the same with the original DMC, love that game to bits too (50hz woes on the PAL PS2 release and all).

Hursti, that haul is way cool. Classic shooters right there. Loved the atmosphere in each and every one of those games. I take it they're just for display? Or do you have a dusty floppy drive you intend on putting to use? :D

Ah I miss the old 3 1/2 floppy. The distinct sound of a 1.44mg disk churning out gaming goodness seems like a very distant past.

Lol, not so sure I miss that per se.

As a young'un, one of mates had this game called 'Toad Force' on the c64, Datasette version (that be from a cassette) and I remember we spent more time playing the game that loaded to occupy you while the main game loaded (yep, a game to pay during loading time) than the main game itself, which was really hard and not all that great. Nice graphics though.

Mystery of Comvoy? Does that mean you have the super rare spelling error boxed variant!? :D
Lol, no, but it would be cool if I had :D In Japanese the N and M phonetic sound are pretty much one and the same. That often got me, as when I was learning Japanese (Heck I still am now...) I often thought Comvoy was completely wrong, but depending on the word in question, I often started hearing what I thought should be an N as an M.

Traded in a few finished and boring games for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. Really enjoying the game so far (18 hours in), even more so than Skyrim. Skyrim is a great game but i got the sick of the same old mountains and boring towns (after clocking up about 120 hours). KOA: Reckoning has a great art style, plenty of colour, varied enemies and an awesome combat system. Quests get repetitive (as do all RPG's) but i'm having more fun than in Skyrim, mainly due to the fast combat style of gameplay. Highly recommended if you enjoy looting.

Some insane bargains lately fellow bots! Also, for those who aren't aware, JB Hi-Fi has a 20% off games sale ending today so might be worth a look-in for those after Kid Icarus, Street Fighter X Tekken etc on the cheap.

Well, after reading many, many differing opinions on Silent Hill: Downpour, I think I'm going to cave in and buy the game on its release date this Thursday. Main complaints seem to be aimed at a clunky combat system and frame rate issues, however, many sites claim it's a return to form for the series and is a better game than Homecoming (which, despite its faults, I actually found to be quite an engaging game throughout with some standout moments, and one of the most memorable boss encounters in the series). Just hope these two complaints aren't enough to ruin the experience, we'll see I guess!

Also, much as it pains me to do this it'll be the first traditional Silent Hill game I'll be buying for a non-Sony system. :( Apparently the 360 version has less frame-rate and screen tearing issues, and offers surround sound options which are strangely missing from the PS3 version...Bizarre. I imagine the 360 version will offer true 1080P too but can't confirm this. Like a moth to the flame, I am once again drawn to my favourite gaming series...

Asura's Wrath truly is an interactive media game rather than a true game.

It is set out in chapters like an episodic anime series, complete with credits, "previously" and "next episode" teasers.

There is a review of stats and ratings awarded at the end of each chapter, and whilst some chapters (each 15-20 minutes long with all the cut scenes) had 11 minutes of gameplay, others had 3 or less!

Mostly its a few minutes of attacking enemies to build up a rage bar, then once you begin the rage section it turns into a series of QTE presses.

Certainly only for fans of anime, and it is certainly a hire game as its only 6 hours long, with maybe 2 hours of actual gameplay!

Couldn't resist picking up Zelda: OoT 3DS from Dick Smith, on sale for $41. All 3DS games were $41 or less, Pilotwings was $30, Ridge Racer was $7, they even had some for $1 (the really bad ones e.g. Jonas Brothers game).

Zelda: Ocarina of Time is still gaming perfection after all these years. The graphics upgrade and 3D just make it sweeter.

Nice haul Gutsman!! Tets approves most highly!

Sonic 3d on the Saturn has the MOST AWESOME chaos emerald levels ever created. Even beating the ones we have today!

Sonic Jam is a great addition mainly coz of the 'Sonic World' add-on, which is beautiful.

Sonic R is um, nice. Ha ha! Nah, kiddding. An interesting idea and manages to whip out some nice splitscreen action. I still play it every now and then, Just make sure you watch the replays when you've finsished and after a while, the characters will get out of sync with the game and start doing stuff that you never did at the same time. Like taking a left turn when there is no left turn to take.

Hmm, I can hear it now, Can you feel the sunshine... Does it brighten up your day...

So I'll never shop at Harvey Norman or their online stores again. Only after 7 weeks and lots of reminders, check ins and complaints did I receive SSX, Batman Arkham City and Catherine for the PS3.

Was planning on playing SSX and Batman last school holidays, but will have to wait till reports are done now.

Catherine was a present, that I can now give a little late.

Service was horrendous, and they wonder why we go and purchase items online.

Personally I got Saints Row the third today for $33 (thanks Trunks:D)

Just got Batman Arkham Asylum because I love the game so much! Added Assassin's Creed: Revelations (wanted to get that one in order to prepare for AC3), and Disney Dinosaur for PS2. It was only $4 when I bought it. I'm such a lucky bugger! I have the PC version of it, but it doesn't like my laptop and refuses to start up anymore.

I am enjoying it so much. I actually haven't had this much fun with a game in so long. It's fun to play, it's pretty easy but it's very enjoyable, quite hilarious as well. The humor is twisted in the best way possible. I'm really glad I bought it. I recommend it to anyone looking for some simple, old fashioned, button-bashing fun.

Going by the average ebay price $40 is about the average, the xbox port must have killed the value, they used to go regularly for $90+

In Japan at the moment and N64 games here are so well priced and kept - only a few go up to 4000-5000Y, plenty can be had in perfect condition with ALL materials as well - manuals, controller cards, warranty slips!

I picked up J-League Perfect Striker (ISS64) for 105Y, Pilotwings 64 NEW for 200Y, and Ogre Battle 64 NEW for 500Y!

The local Tsutaya store has Yoshi's Story for 480Y and Diddy Kong Racing for 280Y - both look brand new... trying to decide if i can be bothered buying them this time - both have been there for at least 6 years :D

Actually, here's my gaming haul separated from the toys, to illustrate the supreme awesomeness of used game hunting in Japan - everything's either new or damn close:

http://i.imgur.com/pJ2xYl.jpg (http://i.imgur.com/pJ2xY.jpg)

Sega Saturn - 2280Y
Virtua Cop + Gun - 300Y
3D Controller - 280Y
Real Bout Special - 100Y
Virtua Fighter 2 - 50Y
Manx TT - 280Y
Decathlete - 50Y
Winter Heat - 100Y
NBA Jam Extreme - 100Y
Zero Divide The Final Conflict - 100Y
Virtual On - 100Y
Anarchy in the Nippon - 100Y
Shotokou Battle 97 (pre-tokyo extreme racer) 100Y
Daytona USA Circuit Edition 500Y
Vampire Hunter 50Y
All Japan Pro Wrestling Featuring Virtua - 100Y
Pilotwings 64 - 200Y
J-League Perfect Striker - 105Y
Ogre Battle 64 - 500Y
Street Fighter 2 - 210Y
Samurai Shodown - 180Y
Shin Samurai Shodown - 100Y
5x Gameboy Cart cases - 20Y each

5985Y total or about $72 AUD all up!

The simpler solution is an Action Replay 4M Auto plus cart from Play-Asia (http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-k8-49-en-70-1b2.html). Not all games work perfectly but most are fine.

Uncharted Golden Abyss, Dokuro, Pro Baseball Spirits 2012 and a Cradle for PSVita
Star Wars Episode 1 Racer for N64, for 100Y!
Famicom Colour GBA SP (Until now i've been forced to use my Gamecube Gameboy player to play original GB games, but no more!). It'll also properly honour Super Gameboy colour palettes which the Gameboy Player doesn't, giving me an excuse to replay Donkey Kong '94! Went to Takeda Castle Ruins today ... in the mountains of Wadayama, Japan. Awesome in itself, but it wasn't the only sight i saw today!
My inlaws and their eagle eyes spotted a recycle/used shop and stopped the car for me.
It looked promising, the outer walls covered in printouts of game covers.
Then i stepped inside:
The Mother Load (http://youtu.be/MCAmDUa-Deg)
Saturn & PS1 section (http://youtu.be/pyt0Wm38GF0) (would you believe, no MK2 for PS1 (http://otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?t=12789&page=4) despite the thousands of games on offer)

The prices were a bit higher (but still very reasonable) than DenDenTown for games, but the accessories were plenty cheap, and the range even better!
It appears this store is the sole retro games store for a few towns, probably accounting for their massive amount of stock.

Managed to come out with the wallet relatively unscathed thankfully... gotta save some for next time too!

I'm really enjoying it, i think it's better in regards to gameplay mechanics and story over trinity universe, even though it's an old game. It plays like disgaea/final fantasy tactics which is like a strategy chess like rpg. My favorite thing about it is the lvl up system, where you invest whatever points you gain into the desired skill for your characters.

On another note, picked up "Star Ocean: The Last Hope International" on PS3

The last pre-Foc game I bought was 'Lollipop Chainsaw' for the PS3 - for anyone who knows not of this game I seriously recommend you check out the Valentines and Halloween trailers on YouTube.

My argument is that is absolutely fantastic to see another game where the hero of the game is a woman who is tough, independent and kicks butt. My wife on the other hand says a game where you play as a scantily clad cheerleader who giggles a lot and you get to earn extra outfits (such as bikini's or outfits from manga) does not support the feminist movement.

My rebuttal is - 'but she has a chainsaw!' :D

I was curious about this one so I did some googleing/youtubing and have to say that I am not a fan of the stop/start gameplay. It seems to me that you play and mash them buttons, and then the game stops while it shows a car crashing and more zombies etc. I really dislike that and find it off putting. Needless to say, despite the pros of :

Chainsaws
Zombies
Scantily clad cheerleaders,

I will not be playing this one :p

Well no, I wont say it is the most playable game I have ever purchased. But after 30 years of gaming, and having some of the most fun and entertaining games at my disposal - from Pacman on the Atari 2600 to Mario Kart on the Nintendo 64 to our beloved Fall of Cybertron on the PS3 - sometimes one looks for a game for one purpose - an unchallenging diversion which is a good chuckle which this game wholeheartedly delivers :)

Randomly checked a shop and found this little gem.

http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k313/Wootnchoo/a6dcf7e5.jpg

An interesting game that I had heard is rather derided by fighting fans. So I had to check it out. It is rather amusing and an eclectic mix of characters and each plays similar to their own game style. SO SF2 Characters play with SF2 mechanics, Vamp Sav. with theirs etc etc. the re-use the sprites as well it seems, Vampire Saviour showing it's age somewhat. Althought he Spirtes for the SF2 Characters aren't actually from SF2, they tend to use the SFAlpha sprites. Which is odd, as SFAlpha is a game type in there.

Anyway, the best part is Dimitri from Vamp Sav is there and his Midnight Bliss move is there as well. It's brill coz it does this. (please excuse dodgy photo of TV. haven't worked out a good screen shot technique yet.)

Dimitri Vs Guile.

Aaah, could well be. Zangief is his Alpha sprite, but Ryu, Chunners and Guile look too detailed for alpha, but not enough for 3rd strike, So I would say they are CvSNK. Chunners does change into her Alpha pants when Dimitri does his Bliss. She also goes chibi occasionally.

Also, bought from GOG.com (http://www.gog.com/) the Carmageddon Max Pack (http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/carmageddon_max_pack); also backed Stainless Games (via Paypal) for their upcoming Carmageddon: Reincarnation (http://www.carmageddon.com/) game which lands via Steam & Hardcopy in February of 2013! :D

Favourite in the series next to 2 for me, why it's received such negative reviews is baffling to me. Once you start taking advantage of the new gameplay mechanics including tackling and sliding, counters, melee, ground shots, diving and rolling, environment-based damage etc. the game hits a whole new level of awesome for the series. Leon's campaign (Professional mode) is some of the most fun I've had this year in terms of gaming. Can't recommend it enough!

I skipped the console version of MK9 so this is my first time playing one seriously since MK4... and damn if it isn't pretty solid! Having a really good time. Super Monkey Ball is very good, much like the original on Gamecube... getting outrageously hard even just half way through. And Little Big Planet is awesome, i finished the single player but still have to go through about half of the tutorials for making my own levels. Packed with content!

One thing you have to love about Oz, nothing's ever gonna sell out.
So preorderless, I popped over to my local BigW just 5 mins away - typically they had nothing new on shelves at all, but asking at the counter i got my machine and game with no problems!

Setup & sys update took damn near forever but i've been playing NSMBU ever since and it's great.. especially with my wife on boost mode (or vice versa) screwing each other over!
The controller feels great, though the screen is a bit average.
Hope Nintendo come up with some crazy shit in the future!

Bummer tho, the el-cheapo tv i use in my living room isn't recognized for the Wii U's TV remote ability!
Probably the only tv in the world that isn't supported... oh well this TV was a freebie from when my grandma went back to the UK so i can't complain too much.. will try on my other one later :D

Super Castlevania 4? Still has the best soundtrack (not without hefty competition mind you) of all the CV games in my opinion.
That type of CV game has unfortunately fallen by the wayside over the years, replaced with the Symphony of the Night style (metroidvania) template.
Those are still great despite being different, so if you have a means to play SOTN, or any of the GBA & DS games, definitely recommended!
Particularly because now, that style of game isn't being made anymore either, since they moved the series away from the creators in Japan.

Everytime I put OoT on, there is just a sense of magic (probably nostalgia) and it makes me shiver and 'tingle' with excitement. ...Ahh how i recall the days sitting infront of the families rear-projection tv with a duvet wrapped around and exploring the Fire Temple and defeating Volvagia with the Megaton Hammer.:p

I would love to see SquareEnix go through and remake FF7, they had a sample/demostration for the ps3 launch to showcase the graphics, but never committed to finishing the remake. FF7, OoT and pokemon red/blue/yellow occupy a majority of my childhood gaming. How about you guys?

Dark Saviour. I bought this when it came out and liked it, it plays like Landstalker (megadrive) and Time stalkers (Dreamcast) (all done by the same developers) with snazzy alternate endings. Artbook was a pre-order bonus from EBgames, so limited stock.

The earlier fire emblem games can be very unforgiving, when a unit dies, he/she is permanently gone. However this new one on the 3DS has an option to play out 'Classic' mode (characters are lost for good if killed in a battle) or 'Newcomer' mode (characters are gone temporarily until the end of battle if killed). Plus you can choose the difficulty between Normal, Hard and Lunatic. Playing it on Normal right now and i have died a few times. But i'm thoroughly enjoying it. If you enjoyed advance wars or ff tactics, time to move on up to the to fire emblem. There are plenty of extra features, online add-on content, etc.

Over the past couple of years I've been slowly reacquiring the "Big Box" packaging of PC games I loved as a kid/teenager, a slow and occasionally expensive exercise but a fruitful and enjoyable one all the same. :D

I recently picked these up about a fortnight ago, especially sort after now that the production studio behind them has closed up shop :(:

(Please excuse the horrible clarity of my phone's camera :o)

I'm extremely glad to have them back in my possession after so long, they've made an excellent addition to my slowly growing display :D:

$14 for SSF4 and $9 for Tetris!
Some stupendously good deals they have going there, unfortunately no Starfox 64 3D (also $14) at Perth store.
Maybe i'll try another store on the weekend :D

On the plus side, EB's game sale proffered this.

Got in trouble from the missus for taking too long buying it. You know why?

EB Guy: Want to know of any games coming up?
Me: No.
EB guy: Want scratch protection on that? $3 for that one and $2 for that one.
Me: Why? Are the discs scratched already?
EB guy: No, they are new.
Me: As they should be. I don't want scratch protection.
EB guy: You sure you don't want to pre-order any games? The last of us is coming out and is supposed to be the best game on the PS3.
Me: No thanks.
EB guy: Bla bla, something about some other game game. bla bla put down ten bucks on it?
Me: no thanks, I don't want to pre-order any games. I jut want to buy these.
EB guy: Ok I'll put these through. (processes games)
Me: I want to use my card.
Eb Guy: Ok, oh, we'll have to put that through over on this till.
Me; Fine.
Eb guy: something something .

Finally get my games about three mins later...

I had stopped listening by now.

Nice one EB games. No matter how good your prices may be you always manage to let me leave your store thinking how much I hate going to EB games.

That's a skill.

I'd just wish Sega would release a EUR/US version as I'd love to get this game. Reminds me of the Dreamcast days....

I don't think it'll happen, Sega's only focussing on their biggest selling properties these days. Just import it, you can come questing with me and the wife :)

You know the PC version has an English patch too right? I haven't tried it but apparently it's complete, excepting weapon names and a few other things stored on their servers. Mind you, it's also supposed to be a bit of a pain to install and manage with all the official updates the game gets.

Even if you can't get the patch going, a wealth of online resources made it easy for me to get into, and my wife helped me get some Vita menu translations done too (here (http://australian-postcodes.com/pso2/))

Yeah I've seen a lot of Westerners taken taken that route, just really annoyed at Sega how little they regard the US/Euro market.

Graphics look pretty nice on PS Vita so might cave in soon...

As much as I love presents, it was slightly disappointing to see an EB sticker on the game. I hate the thought of them getting money.

The Last of Us is fantastic man, great survival horror game. I find myself getting mini panic attacks while playing it. To me its like the movie Taken meets The walking dead. (anything goes to survive or to reach your goal) The A.I at times can be stupid, but even on normal difficulty, i've died a few times due to exercising combat/stealth at wrong times when it required the other. BUY IT!!

Also i too am on the same boat of hating EB games due to them having higher prices on games in general and giving you jack s**t for your old games, but i've adapted to them cause i do like the pre-order bonus, price matching and most importantly 7 day money back policy. (oh how i've abused this greatly):p

Likewise on the EB hating front. Forever bothering me with their "Do ya wanna preorder anything" questions and then after being told no, then suggesting things for me to pre-order, THEN offering scratch protection on my discs.

Do blu-rays even scratch?

Do I look like an excitable 12 year old kid who can't look after their stuff?

My biggest hate though is their 7 day return policy. If I am buying a new game, how do I know it's new? It might have been bought new and then returned by someone in that week. In which case the game is actually second hand, but I suspect they put it back as a 'new' one.

Last resort shopping only.

I did get time. In fact I MADE time.:D:o

Wasn't too bad. Combat is styled on Arkham a bit with free-flow and counters. And guns. Feels a bit unco ATM, but I am sure after a bit more time, it will be pretty cool.

Worts thing so far is a dodgy camera. Running around the inside of a building, trying to shoot some dude, but I kept getting stuck on walls of the level I couldn't see.... Unless I flicked the camera around, in which case I couldn't aim at the guy.

Because they don't take no for an answer.

If I say I don't want to preorder anything at the moment, that should be it.
That doesn't mean they keep going, talking over me.

If I have to go to what I perceive as the thin-edge of rudeness, just to try and move past the barrage, multiple times in a row, over years, I don't want to shop there, and don't want to give them my money to encourage them to continue these practices. I walked out of there frustrated too many times.

If I nicely a say I'm a casual gamer, and am only after the game in my hands, that should be it. I don't want to give my life story every time. Empty shop and it still takes about 10 minutes to finish the transaction? Screw that.

Can you imagine trying to buy a Masterpiece Huffer at Toys R Us, only to have the checkout clerk start asking you if you wanted to preorder the new season's Barbies, then the new Speak N Spell, then the new line of little rubber animals? 'I only want to buy this Huffer. I'm only interested in Transformers, and just want this one.'

'But we're also getting Barbie's new season outfits. They fit any Barbie doll with a tag that*'

'NO!!!'

They do that with the shelf copies, however when they release new games, they tend to order in bulk, they leave seal copies in the store room, and when you request them to check for you, they usually come back with a seal copy. Games that have been out for more than 6 months are harder to find sealed, but might get lucky if you ask.
