I'd think so too. If it was just a Sunstreaker head on a yellow body I'm happy with that. I prefer Universe 2.0 Sunstreaker in 'Sideswipe' mode. If they designed this to be Sideswipe and Sunstreaker like the Universe 2.0 figure I would be delighted, but that's a bit unlikely.

Regardless I'm very excited to get a MP Sideswipe.

I agree with Dirge - there's no way that is going to be retooled into anything decently-resembling Sunstreaker in robot mode, although they might stick a supercharger engine and a new head on it, recolour it yellow and call it Sunstreaker anyway. Although I'd prefer it if they just did a straight yellow recolour and call it Tigertrack or Spin-Out. They generally recolour Masterpieces into the ground, so G2 Sideswipe (fingers crossed for a bandolier accessory) would be awesome. Red Alert is inevitable. Deep Cover and Clampdown would be sound choices. Breakdown is likely. Laster and Deadwheeler would be scraping the bottom of the barrel.

I wasn't saying Red Alert shouldn't be done. I was just saying that it shouldn't be done like Skywarp or Thundercracker, who both had their own MP number.
Sunstorm doesn't have its own number (it has Starscream's number, with s on the end)... just like the other redecos you mentioned - which was my point. If they are significant enough characters, they deserve their own (starting) MP number. Less significant characters should, and do, get a letter attached to someone else's number.

The importance of the numbering is subjective, but to me I feel that it shouldn't be blown out like the original series of JP Gen1 toys... it should be a small, select number in the Masterpiece line (like a Hall of Fame), and the numbering should reflect that - which it has, since we are only up to 11 after 10 years... averaging a new MP number each year.

Whenever a character is featured, like on Hall of Fame or on biocards, its more the robot than the alt-mode... so even if the car could be made to look like Sunstreaker, would fans buy a $200 yellow Sideswipe to go with their $200 red Sideswipe?
They could get away with it on a cheaper toy, but I just don't see them risking it with something so big and expensive as a MP figure, if the robot mode doesn't exactly homage the Gen1 character like all the other MP figures do.
But I'll wait and see, as they may well have multiple things planned to make mileage from that mould.

This is really awesome news- I will now gladly pick up mp10 and mp11. However it was mentioned elsewhere that the alt mode may be similar size to mp rodimus... if thats the case then would it be out Of scale with mp10?

If not how would they scale such autobot cars? Bigger than alternity/ classics deluxe and they would not scale with mp10 truck mode? But as those figures have shown.. A little too short in bot mode from recollection...

I hope they find a consistency of scale between alt and bot modes...

As for the sunstreaker issue, I give Takara more credit- to release a proper mould and not just a yellow sideswipe with a new head... They might milk sideswipe repaints first, aka red alert, etc..

Looking at the pic of mp12 drawing- if that is any indication of the final release then it is pretty faithful to g1- and I'm sure Takara would have accounted for a sunstreaker remold.. I hope anyway.

The biggest issue is the price point and frequency of release from this line. Previously a rumor from an insider said these were meant to be a mp sub- line (although his seems to have been designated as the next official mp). I think that although These more "minor characters" may be under a different set of uideline/policy then the past mps...although this is just my own speculation.

Well if you look at the cartoon Red Alert has a starring role in a cartoon episode [Auto-berserk], Sideswipe never got that. He just hung around in group shots, gave people his backpack and pile-drived a few things (so he does have better accessories :) ).

If I had to guess then I would think it would be 1/18th scale. Big enough bot height for a masterpiece and bigger than 1/24 alts/binaltechs. Also same scale as common diecast autos. I'd prefer 1/24 but really that would be too small for the masterpiece line.

Prime/Megatron. Seekers. Grimlock/Hot Rod/Rodimus. The next logical MP sure as hell sounded to me like it was going to be Galvatron. Sideswipe just doesn't fit in anywhere with the current line and doesn't really have anyone to be displayed with properly...

My guess is that someone in the design house had engineereed a pretty damn good MP Sideswipe which is why it's been put into production over other potential candidates who are more popular. Something like Ironhide would be more challenging to create without looking 'too' gappy though that didn't really stop them with Hot Rod.

Very much wishful thinking on my part but I would love a die-cast transforming Lambo. Die cast and motor vehicles belong together! :D

Depends on the repaint. Sideswipe repainted/retooled as Red Alert, Deep Cover, Tigertracks and Clampdown would definitely work because those G1 toys are all repaints/retools of G1 Sideswipe anyway (it's the same as say repainting MP Starscream into Skywarp and Thundercracker - simple but it works).

I would be greatly disappointed if they repainted it as Sunstreaker or Breakdown or anything that wasn't based on a Sideswipe repaint. That sort of thing might fly for a Deluxe figure, but I wouldn't like to see it for Masterpiece.

Given the size of the latest MP's Grimlock, OP and Starscream MP size for Sideswipe should only be a head or so taller than a Binaltech.

Anyway It will be interesting to see how this comes out, how will it compare to other MP's Binaltechs and Alternity's. Too soon to say. I will get excited later if required.

I agree with this & your Blog post HD; These would be awesome and I can't wait to see some prototype pics down the line to final production - I've got to say that this particular choice for an MP figure really has me excited, especially if a G2 Repaint is produced! :D:cool:
