Caught this nice little article with Matt Tieger regarding the challenges of getting the Dinobots into Fall of Cybertron. (http://www.theverge.com/gaming/2012/4/24/2962458/grimlock-high-moon-dinobots-transformers-cybertron-activision)
Glad it worked out - i can't imagine how Hasbro could ever think the Dinobots were irrelevant to Transformers!?
Particularly considering how much they've got out of the revival of Bumblebee these past few years - perhaps too busy pumping out BB toys to realise they have other fan favourites they could milk!

An interesting article to read. Thats for sure. Though this information has been around for a while regarding the Fall of Cybertron game. I guess Hasbro was of the mind they wouldn't touch the Dinobots, probably cause they couldn't make sense of them for new fans. And if they changed them, alot of old fans would disapprove. Good thing Fall of Cybertron has an interesting origin story for them. And even more exciting the idea of space bridges, allows for many possibilities.

I know I've said this before, but if we get good toys they will deffinatley be saved :)

I'll believe it when I see toys.

But Hasbro has been giving us Dino TFs in recent years... e.g.
+ Dark of the Moon Dinobots (US exclusive)
+ Power Core Combiner Grimstone & Dinobot drones
+ Animated Dinobots
+ Masterpiece Grimlock
+ Universe 2.0 Dinobot
+ Universe 2.0 Dinobots (not released in AU)
+ Classics Dinobots
+ Energon Cruellock
+ Energon Dinobots (gestalt!)
+ Universe Dinobots (not released in AU)
+ BM Dinobots

It's funny to see this issue of the Dinobots being considered "extinct", has been discussed twice in the last couple weeks, showing that they never really "died" to the fans or even Hasbro (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showpost.php?p=295678&postcount=21).

I agree, the Dino-robot Concept hasn't died or gone away but the original 'Dinobot Team' of 5x Dino-robots comprising:

1x Tyrannosaurus Rex - Grimlock
1x Apatosaurus/Brontosaurus - Sludge
1x Triceratops - Slag/Slug
1x Stegosaurus - Snarl
1x Pteranodon - Swoop

...& Named 'The Dinobots' hasn't been truthfully or faithfully revisited in it's entirety since the original 1980s iteration that defined and popularised the concept; that is, I believe, what people refer to as the 'Dinobots being extinct' as the concept really hasn't been the success it once was because that core team of 5x figures/characters has never been produced since and hence why Hasbro was looking to drop it moving forward with it's new 'Aligned' Continuity. ;)
(Of which High Moon Studios & Matt Tieger have done brilliantly to 'Revisit' or 'Reinvision' :))

My above comment is refering to the article, I'm aware Hasbro has made plenty of dinobot toys. But they really haven't been sure how to place them in the overall story. Are the Dinobots in any of the movies or in Transformers Prime? the Fall of Cybertron game will give them a place. The article refers to saving the Dinobots from Extinction, this is just a catchy title, not really a truth.

Nah, the Dinobots weren't in any TF Movie (Bay is on record as saying he personally hated the concept) & TF:Prime they aren't in... yet ;); with them being included in FoC certainly opens the door of possibility that they may indeed see some form of inclusion in either TF:Rescue Bots or TF: Prime. :)

Oh, and for posterity:

Unfortunately no; I should specify that the Dino mode shots are actual In-Game Screenshots and thus far, nothing In-Game has been shown of Sludge. :(
(Sludge being my personal favourite Dinobot too )

The way I'm looking at it, they're saving the best reveal for last. ;):D

All five Dinobots have recently appeared in:
+ IDWverse (http://tfwiki.net/w2/images2/0/03/Dynobots_divided_MaximumDinos.jpg)
+ Devil's Due (http://images.wikia.com/transformers/images/2/28/DD_Dinobots.jpg)
+ Dreamwave comics (http://tfwiki.net/w2/images2/f/fd/ScrollDinobots.jpg)

If Hasbro as the toy makers (not fiction writers) have this attitude towards the Dinobots then don't expect official figures of them any time soon. Hopefully if the game is successful enough and the Dinobot portions of the game are praised, they may change their minds but that probably means not for a few years if at all.

I don't think those count as 'Hasbro's vision for the brand' as those are people with the Transformers license writing their own G1 stories almost independently.

Of course when it comes to toys and perhaps the video game as the interview alludes to, Hasbro does seem to want to be involved on every step.

As we have seen in the last few years, Hasbro has moved away from the 'G1 Dinobot' team for some reason. I have also heard Hasbro officially say that 'Dinobots are retired' some time ago before FOC or WFC despite their appearances in other media.

However as it's always been with Hasbro since the end of Beast Wars, consistency in what they say and what they do has never been reliable. The overall attitude may be that they do not see a place for Dinobots in the future of the line but that doesn't stop them from making Dinosaur PCC combiners.

Unfortunately given their (Archer's) current attitude, I do not think we will be getting 'G1 Dinobot' figures any time soon.

The nature of the (corporate) beast that is an International (toy) corporation like Hasbro.

Like... most of the lower levels of Hasbro that deal with Hasbro product creation want to relook at Beast Wars (according to the last 3 years of BotCon panels - due to the "cult" popularity within the collector community), but the people at the top of the food chain (who decide on the direction of the brand as a whole) haven't given them approval for a full series, or a range within a series... because they would be prioritising concepts & series that are assessed as being more profitable (to the uncommitted consumers who buy most of their products).
If Hasbro did a small-quantity, collector-focused toy range (like Matty Collector, or even TakaraTomy), we could see more of these "fan favourites".
(I doubt that's going to happen, with all the money they make from "cookie cutter" mainstream concepts - centered around the same specific characters and settings each time.)

Yeah, until I see toys of all 5 Dinobot characters, then I don't consider it to be a full ressurection of that entire sub group. Animated came close with 3 Dinobots.

But yeah, I wouldn't hold my breath for it. We've never had five Dinobots released in the same series since 1985; and it was relatively easy/cheap for Hasbro then because they just took the Diaclone Kyouryuu Robos and rehashed them as Dinobots. After that we've never seen all 5.
