Bits about the Universal Studio Ride, Jagex, TFPrime Ebooks & Cartoon series weren't news-worthy.

Rescue Bots - new ones on display.
Kreo (series 2)
- 7 new sets
- Quest for Energon theme
- Devastator shown
- 29 new Kreons (each with a second, transparent purple chest)
(on display in the Dealer Room)

(pics from the display case to be added later - check the global fansites for there's until I add mine)

TFPrime (the waves/toys already known not mentioned below - I'll mention them in my full report later)

Voyager Wave (3 or 4) - Thundertron (a blue/white liger from Exiles book (pirate?) - looks like TFC Leobreaker)

Legion 2013 - Airachnid

BotShots (the waves/toys already known not mentioned below - I'll mention them in my full report later)

3-pack Wave 2
- Skyquake, Jetfire, Powerglide
- (blue) Brawl, Shockwave, (clear blue) Ironhid

Generations (all FOC so far)

Deluxe
2013 - Kickback (insecticon triplechanger - on display), Starscream (new), Sideswipe (new), Ultra Magnus (looks like War Within Optimus), Fireflight (similar mode to Shockwave, but red/orange/yellow)

Voyager
Soundwave w/ Laserbeak (on display)
Soundblaster w/ Buzzsaw (redeco of above)
(each bird is a "data disk" that can be launched out of Soundwave's chest, and auto-converts when they hit something - each bot can hold 3 data disks)

(yes, three... so, why are there only two listed above...)

Legends
Rumble (blue) & Ravage
Ratbat & Frenzy (red)
(each 2-pack comes with a plastic case for storage in disk mode)

Exclusives

US TRU - Masterpiece Optimus (MP10) with trailer and all JP parts. Smokestacks should be long, but still not definite.

SDCC 2012 - FOC Bruticus in Game colours (compared to the fluro colours that you'll see in stores a couple months later). Packaged in a BIG book-style box.

SDCC 2012 - Rust in Peace Cliffjumper (Zombie Cliffjumper in its original red deco) Comes in a box shaped as his head, inside a box that looks like his chests, so you can sit the head onto the chest for display. Toy comes with a shard of Dark Energon to zombie-fy him with.

SDCC is July 11-15.

Q&A
No TFPrime Voyager Breakdown shown, and they couldn't comment on it - maybe not being released by Hasbro?
Also, "no comment" when asked about FOC Dinobots.

The SDCC Bruticus looks good, RK has posted pics on facebook, the rest of the info is interesting, I'm assuming Starscream,Sideswipe are FOC versions?

Yes, all FOC so far it seems.

Holy Crap, they're giving him his trailer for the US. So bought. That SDCC Bruticus is gonna be mine too. (Despite the fact it's gonna be expensive...)

Even more Holy Crap- White Repaint of Big Convoy! ULTRA MAMMOTH! FINALLY!!

I really hope that we get the new mp prime here, I didn't pick up the tt one because I didn't have the money at the time and this one will do nicely.

I hope the new cassettes/discs will be cool they were desperately in need of a update and these look promising.

I like the sdcc cliffjumper packaging it'll look good displayed and as a one off novelty it works well.

Its a pity that the game accurate bruticus colours will be an exclusive but I'm just glad that they are being done and that I'll be able to get it

So, they're making the game-accurate Bruticus a limited exclusive? The marketing strategy kind of escapes me there.

Guess I'm waiting on Takara then.

Damn. I was hoping for mp-10 WITHOUT the trailer. Have to think long and hard about that.

What decides whether it will come out here?

Not surprised. I have grown to expect silly moves like this from Hasbro. Kids and collectors are going to want the game accurate version and as an exclusive, collectors may have access but what about the kids?

I suspect they have artificially created a shelf warmer by not learning about past mistakes in regards to such colors.

Guess I'm waiting on Takara then.

That's risky as there may not do a game accurate release if it's there already SDCC exclusive. Yes, they have broken that rule in the past but after years of the exclusive release.

What Tak-Tom is likely to do is a G1 color accurate exclusive which may be pretty good.

I am personally leaning towards the exclusive as it's got a pretty awesome presentation even if the mold is lacking.

But Verno I've wanted that since I knew there was a Big Convoy toy.

(....Actually I've always wanted a Mammoth Ultra Magnus and Lion Optimus that combined ala GodFire convoy...but what ya gonna do?)

Kids and collectors are going to want the game accurate version and as an exclusive, collectors may have access but what about the kids?Pretty much. I'd have thought they'd have tried to cater to their main demographic, namely (parents of) kids.
The sad bit is that if they do shelfwarm that'll probably be taken as 'big gestalts don't sell'.:(

1 - G2 homage...which this isn't. It's lurid but not so-lurid-it's-funny G2 lurid.
2 - Game-accurate colours...at non-scalper prices.
3 - G1 accurate colours, which chances are TakTom will deliver.

I don't like it either.

...And I 3rd that; it looks atrocious and really doesn't tickle my fancy at all, but then neither did the Nemesis repaint really. :o

FoC Accurate Bruticus being an SDCC exclusive is a little disappointing but not without merit; It's great that it'll exist and apparently the reasoning is that (According to Hasbro) Kids want crazy colours, collector's want accurate colours and hence the mainline will always take precedence being the main focus.

Disappointing to hear that the Dinobots are likely only to see a Grimlock figure being released. :(

MP-10 getting a full US release is an absoulte win for collectors and it was quite curious to note the heavily reduced packaging for him; Hopefully TRU Australia will pick him up and have prices that reflect their recent approaches with MP Rodimus.:cool:

The new head mold on TF:Prime Dead-End looks rather G2 Cyber-skullish, very cool and I'm like the colour scheme too; TF:Prime Airachnid looks awesome for a current-era Deluxe (Mass-wise) and I very much cannot wait for her to be released. :D

The show accurate TF:Prime Zombie-Cliffjumper looks amazing too; 1st edition ,old but again another SDCC exclusive - Somehow I don't see this figure having the same issues as last years SDCC Deluxe Prime in terms of being relegated to the Hasbro Online store and still not moving particularly well. :)

The Insecticon being a triple changer is rather intriguing; I really like the Kickback homage and that it is part-way IDW-verse & TF:Prime but with a Classicsverse aesthetic, I'm looking forward to some proper shots of the 'Bug' Alt mode though as I couldn't quite make out what the vehicle mode was trying to be... :D

Still no mention of a Soundwave Botshot...; This has been heavily mitigated though by the complete win of the unveiling of a new Generations Soundwave figure!, whom is a Voyager no-less and comes with an updated approach to the cassettes in the guise of 'Data-Disk' like canisters which Soundwave is able to fit 3 in his chest! :D:D:D

What's also amazing is that this also shows the revelation that Generations (Classicsverse) will be including the Voyager size class, this is a very welcomed piece of news as it opens many possibilities!:cool:

I'm also pleased to see that they intend on releasing double packs of additional 'Data-Disk' minions for the new Soundwave in the guise of Ratbat, Ravage, Frenzy & Rumble! :D:cool:

Disappointingly, very little to show for fans of Beast Wars beyond TFCC's Pre-Beast Wars Depth Charge which does look rather amazing; beyond this Tundertron (Whom apparently is a Beast-former) is the only other thing apart from TFCC's other exclusive in Ultra-Mammoth, a missed series of opportunites IMO. :o

Lots of interesting here. MP-10 and Soundwave were the ones that flagged my interest the most and and having now seen photos I'll have to pick them up ASAP. Although I'm a fan of the TakTom Masterpieces my biggest complaint is that the boxes dont have a viewing window so MIB/ MISB collecting means not ever really seeing the toy. Hasbro win here. And the update on Soundwave to have data disk minions - bought on sight. Or ebay. Or whatever the quickest method of obtaining them is! :)

My Rants:

Hmm... And i just bought mp-10 a few weeks ago which ticks me off because the deco of this hasbro version is not that far from the TT one. Oh well.. for less than half the price I will grab one or 2 extra.

As for Generations... I was really hoping to see Grimlock reveal so was slighlty disappointed. The possibility of not all 5 dinobots is sucky- but this is Hasbro. As for the rest of FOC and generations, its just not grabbing me. The main issue is the shrinking in size. I mean shockwave being small next to classics deluxe bumblebee?

Soundwave sounded great, but looking at the design.. its not exciting me too much, although I might end up getting it to replace ML soundwave for classics(as blasphemous to me as that sounds) since it has compatability with cassettes! And they have soundblaster redeco! Now my PE frenzy rumble is redundant.

Finally FOC bruticus... what can I say that already hasnt been said by others. From my own perspective (as a biased collector) i am inclined to say that those neon garish colours will make them shelfwarm- I know as a kid I wanted as much accuracy as possible (although maybe Hasbro is right and kids dont care, but prefer it).

I might get the SDCC version if its not too pricey and easy to access- i.e. RK... If not then I will probably skip it and see how the Takara one turns out. I don't need it and the design honestly doesnt get me too excited but more getting it to support combiner from Has.

Hasbro also mentioned in the panel the potential of Devastator in the future if these sell well. Im not holding my breath, and Im indifferent either way as 3rd party has got me covered- but if bruticus shelfwarms giving Has the excuse not to make a Devy-f that would suck for those collectors who stick exclusively to Has/Tak.

This is usually the case, but US MP10 Prime looks like hes bent over and ready to lay some brown cable.

Interesting that he comes with his trailer!

That MP-10 looks sweet, didn't buy the Takara version simply due to price. The Hasbro version looks very similar and at half the price will be a nice addition to the collection. Loving that he comes with trailer and all other accessories.

Interesting
Seems as though they are once again holding back most of the news for SDCC, which while I can understand, does take away from the fact that Botcon is JUST FOR TRANSFORMERS and you don't have to compete with all those other toy lines.

FOC Toys
Voyager Soundwave - why! Fantastic to get his tape pals, but he just looks like an upscaled Deluxe, and now he is going to be the odd one out since all the annouced toys are still deluxe scale.
Kickback - awesome! Can't make heads or tails of the alt mode though.
SDCC Bruticus - sucks hard that the real colour scheme is an exclusive and means another weekend of needing to sit on eBay waiting for a good price on 2 of the buggers.

Masterpiece
Good news for those who couldn't afford the Japanese and for those who got the Japanese and want another one for display or ..
Just hope the red stays red and the stacks stay long.

Prime Toys
Did anyone ask or has it been reported on WHY the case assortments suck, and no mention of Voyager Breakdown. May have to get the Japanese one...
Airachnid - looks excellent, please be repacked in Wave 5 or later as 1 per case sucks.

They might have been more successful if Ultra Mammoth had a mostly white with hints of silver, like MP Ultra Magnus. Or maybe following the Classics line, made him mostly white with blue legs.

For me the main reason this colour scheme does not work for me is because they've mixed up Ultra Magnus' Cab/Trailer combined mode colour scheme, with the Optimus-head from his cab-only mode. If they were going to keep this mode, perhaps maybe re-mold the head to reflect his combined mode body?

Lord_Zed

Hmmmm not much of interest to me.

MP10 is the best news here, although he doesn't not look as good as the TT one, he is brighter and his Trailer is not painted, also i think his smokestacks may be smaller. Still if they can keeo the price down then I will be happy.

SDC Bruticus looks good, but not SDC price good. Depends how much they are bu I don't think there going to be worth double the standard Hasbro price.

The new Soundwave looks IMO really boring, yeah he has data disk Laserbeak, but that's about it for appeal, nothing else new. Maybe I'll wait till his repaint.

That Insecticon reminds me of the swarm form AHM, it is interesting, everything else new announced is either from a line I don't collect or to expensive to be worth getting.

The Insecticon looks interesting, MP 10 - meh Im not really into MPs nowadays since they've shrunk and keep rehashing old characters, Soundwave - looks meh, the deluxe they released in Generations was sufficient - for me, those datadisk cassetrons look kinda weak transformation wise, even minicons looked more articulate that those. Oh well.

Haha, as soon as I saw that Voyager Soundwave I thought to myself Hursti is going to be one happy chappy. :p He looks pretty beefcake, looks to have some pretty awesome play value too. Always a good thing!

Some very cool things on show at this years SDCC, something for everyone I think. I wonder if the Combaticons will be sold individually as well as in a "gift set" like in the G1 golden days. Would be really nice to display a set of them MOSC (plus I really want Vortex to get his own packaging!). What do you bots think?

The huge head packaging for Terrorcon Cliffjumper is so cool...will look great sitting atop the Prime collection cabinet. :D

Hehe, you thought right dude; He's different enough from the WFC release for me to be all over him, especially considering he's a Voyager with a cool reinterpreted gimmick! - Minion Data-Disks FTW! :D:cool:

I think it'd be cool to see them get a Giftset release, perhaps as a store exclusive?; Unfortunately though I don't think it'll come to pass but it's not like it's an unset president, there was the PowerCore combiner 5-packs but they've already stated that FoC Bruticus will see an individual component release comprising an entire wave. ;)

Ooohh so much news!
A pity that some of the main reveals are for TF Prime :(
I prefer the Generations line....
Kreo's seem to improved! I'm liking the Booster packs of generic 'Bots and 'Cons :) Like the nameless seeker clones! I'm also really tempted by the Prime v Megs Kreo set :)
The new Soundwave is just a bigger version of the Deluxe (bigger and with a new hat...I mean Lazerbeak)
The FOC line is still so, so....will have to wait to see them in person. But not Shockwave! He's a must buy!

Hopefully we get some more reveals at the next Comic-con/Toy convention

Since it was raised, I went in and asked them about it...

The main reasons:
- Bright coloured Store versions - "pop out" to parents and young kids more, who will buy more units than the older gamers or dedicated collectors, in ANY colour.
- SDCC gives Hasbro the opportunity to get the game-colours to fans early in some fashion, even if it was a limited release. Otherwise, options are limited until a late wave redeco, or a store exclusive down the track.

Here's hoping they don't sell out at SDCC, so that we can get some from the Hasbro online store to avoid paying ebay scalpers.

Wow, thank you very much. It is good when real questions about brand decisions are asked instead of 'happy neutral' ones.

The main reasons:
- Bright coloured Store versions - "pop out" to parents and young kids more, who will buy more units than the older gamers or dedicated collectors, in ANY colour.

This first point has been a tactic that's been failing since the 80s. Brightly colors have always ended up shelf warming. Nobody wants them, not even kids. The stores seem to be demanding this despite a decades history of shelf warming toys that 'popped out' for the wrong reasons. I guess it works for Hasbro since their job is done as soon as the stores buy the stock and that's what they want.

I feel the need to add a little on to what Kup has to say:

I could follow hasbro's first argument here if the whole lot of FOC generations had a more fluro aesthetic. If Optimus Prime had a more vivid red and electric blue scheme would that not help him sell better to parents and children as well? I think whoever is responsible for the colour choice we're getting must be quite concerned with the sales results of these figure to want to hit them with inaccurate day-glo colours in order to make them sell well.

Soundwave w/ Laserbeak (on display)
Soundblaster w/ Buzzsaw (redeco of above)

Ratbat & Frenzy (red)

The show accurate TF:Prime Zombie-Cliffjumper looks amazing too; 1st edition ,old but again another SDCC exclusive - Somehow I don't see this figure having the same issues as last years SDCC Deluxe Prime in terms of being relegated to the Hasbro Online store and still not moving particularly well. :)

In the end it comes down to what retailers want... and retailers have no interest in long-term brand support - they just want short-term product that they think they can sell within 3-6 months. The brand owners are stuck balancing the desire to have a long-term, successful story/series, with short-term wave/assortment demands of their customers (the retailers).
Throw into the mix, including/sneaking in as many nods to the fans that they can get away with and still be able to appease Retailers - they don't always end up with a good balance, but must be doing enough right to still be going year after year... for 28 years.

Argh! - I've got to stop looking at those Soundwave photos (http://www.seibertron.com/events/fullsize.php?event_id=227&size=2&image=20)! :p

I want it now! :o; with it's better realised WFC/FoC design aesthetic, Voyager class size & Data-Disk Minion launching gimmick (Of which the minions transform in mid-air and come in Energon Cube-esque canisters )...
I think I'm going to go loopy by the time this hits the shelves! :D:cool:
(So too with the Twin Minion Packs to coincide with his release :))
