Apologies if there's another thread (couldn't find one).
Just wondering what people's opinions on this (http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/botcon-2012-coverage-hasbro-masterpiece-optimus-prime/24713/) are... MP-10 Hasbro's version. Is it any different to the Takara one (apart from some paint apps)? Looks the same to me. The price is touted as being $100... quite a lot cheaper than the $250/300 Takara version.
I was gonna buy the Takara version soon, but now I'm not so sure.
So, any thoughts? Any differences? Any opinions at all would be greatly appreciated :)
More pics here too. (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/conventions-15/botcon-2012-hasbro-new-display-cases-panel-images-174945/)

Most discussion on the subject has taken place here (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?t=13476) dude :); But besides an obvious packaging difference the actual toy itself looks pretty much identical but there is something about the set that looks... different, maybe the plastics used or something?
I think it'd be really cool if the entire thing hit Aussie TRU shelves for $100-$120, but I can see it'd realistically be closer to $150-$175 though. :o
I am a very proud owner of MP-04 Convoy and have previously viewed the MP-10 as nothing but an overpriced piece of redundancy, if the price is closer to $100-$150 however I'll be far more inclined to give it some more consideration. ;)

Thanks :)
Looks like the stacks are a little shorter too!
I agree though, for the price... this is a no-brainer compared to Takara's version!

I prefer the Takara packaging but completely gave this a miss because of 2 things, firstly as has been previously said I have MP-04 which I'm happy with and secondly the price. If it comes close to the $100.00 price mentioned I will also be giving this more than a second look.

Ooh, I'll definitely be getting this toy if I find it locally. :)

There's really no reason why it wasn't around $100-150 in the first place. I don't know why Takara (or retailers) are charging so much... basically double!

Perhaps Takara put in a fair bit of coin to develop it?
Regardless, the Hasbro version looks pretty darn good. I agree with Hursti, there's something that seems "different" about it compared to the Tak version. It may not be as polished, but if it retails for $100 I don't see how you can go wrong - even if the plastic quality turns out to be lesser.
If I didn't have the Jap version already I'd be all over this. The Hasbro version has a strong G1 animated "feel" to it that I just can't quite put my finger on.

Looks like the smokestacks are smaller, the colours brighter and more toy like, and the Trailer is cheaper looking without the silver paint the TT version has.
As stated above it looks less polished and less fancy, however if the price difference really is $100 then it's likely an acceptable sacrifice.

pretty interested in this, I still have an MP01 and 04 though so It's going to have to be on special for me I think.

I fail to see how smaller stacks, and a little less paint account for the massive price difference. I would be interested in finding out the reason TT charge SO much more. Maybe it is because they developed the mold.
Maybe.

Good news for you guys, though I expect TRU Oz will still jack up the price.
He's a great piece and easily worth $100-$150 IMO.

Maybe.
the development cost is quite possibly a contributing reason

I'm very interested in this one. I've got most of the incarnations of MP-01 (except nemesis, sleep and last - just didnt see the point) and was massively disappointed when convoy was announced as MP-10, but the mold has grown on me. I'm impressed by the way you can actually see the toy in its packaging and it seems somehow more reminiscent of G1 than the MP-01 mold. If the price tag is ~$150 I'll be compelled to pick him up. I can also see a rerelease as ultra magnus with a g1 style trailer in this packaging (fingers crossed!)

I'd be pleasantly surprised if it sold here for $100 considering that MP Grimlock sold here for about $150 IIRC. $100 is how much we paid for MP Starscream -- so even for a smaller MP Prime, with the trailer, Roller etc., I'd expect it to cost more than that. It wouldn't surprise me if it was $175 or more (wouldn't surprise me if it went as high as $200).
Anyway, Takara's RRP for MP-10 is 23100JPY or $276 -- so any less than that and we'd still be paying less than what people in Japan paid. If it starts approaching that price, then you might as well get the Japanese version and have a nicer box. ;)

In person, the colours (red, blue) look brighter than the JP version... perhaps going for a more cartoony look, to attract attention, or counter the more enclosed/darker packaging (sold in truck mode to keep the packaging/cost down).
Looks like the smokestacks are smaller, the colours brighter and more toy like, and the Trailer is cheaper looking without the silver paint the TT version has.
I haven't compared smokestacks to the JP version, but at least they aren't totally cut off like the Gen1 reissues and previous MP Primes... so even if they are a little shorter, they don't detract from the overall apppearance like the cut ones did.

Like I wrote on the first page, it seems like the paint apps and slightly shorter stacks are the only differences. I really love the design, so I was gonna buy the Takara version at some point... but now I think I'll hold off. This one looks just as good.
I didn't really consider that Takara would charge more (to compensate for developmental costs) as many have already stated. I suppose that is the case! But, is that how it works? Does Takara develop all these toys by themselves with no financial support from Hasbro at all?
Or is it a case of Takara puts money into developing/designing toys, whereas Hasbro throw their money in to media (movies, TV shows, etc..)? Is that the arrangement?

No release date mentioned at BotCon, but seeing a fully packaged sample on display suggests it is being released in the next couple months (in America).

My MP 10 just arrived in the post (bought it just b4 they announced the Hasbro version damn it) The inside of the trailer is silver paint but looks the Hasbro version is just grey. The smokestacks is pushed down (shorter) for truck mode and pulled up in robot mode. The Hasbro pics had them pushed down in robot mode. Hasbro version painted the lights above chest windows yellow which is a plus.
Best thing is I can put Spike in the right hand driver seat not like all the US pics!

I don't think we've ever missed any of the Hasbro MPs... so I'd expect this here as well.

This is gona really drag the price of the Takara version down I reckon. For those that prefer the glorious Japanese release (and haven't jumped on board because of the high pricetag), it'll probably drop to less than $150-200 in no time.
