Anyone have one?
Looking for recommendations
Right now thinking a kindle, but someone suggested i look into low cost android tablets as an option as well, so if anyone has any of them either, opinions would be much appreciated :D

I have a Kindle with keyboard (not the current model but the previous gen) and it's great. But I have no experience with any of the alternatives.
Related, "Calibre e-book management" is useful free software for converting various ebook formats.

my main gripe with the kindle is the fact that i need a light on to read with it
apart from that its the goods, i just dont know if i always want to have my light on (or have a light attached to it)

I use an asus transformer as an ebook reader for comics, does a great job, any cheap android tablet would do the trick aswell.

the acer iconia occasionally goes for about $200, and is an absolute bargain when it does. Otherwise you'd be hard pressed to get a decent tablet at that price.

If you're happy to pay $400+ for the android tablet, might as well go with the iPad 2 - $398 now from Big W.

If you're a big reader, I strongly recommend choosing one of the digital ink eReaders and not a tablet. It's just like The Damned says, while you may need to read under light like a real book, the eReader won't cause eye strain and is far lighter than a tablet. During a marathon reading session, these things matter. Not to mention holding up a half kg tablet in front of you for hours sucks!
It's also fantastic just being able to throw the thing into a bag and carry it around with you for months without having to worry about running out of juice. Those tablets maybe last a day tops on one charge?
My suggestion:

that is the thing that worries me about the tablet, not the weight but the viewing. However, i still dont like having the light on, to read propperly without a light shining in my eyes all the time id need to install a lamp above my bed, which i really dont want to do, as the main light in my room isnt positioned particularly well in relation to my bed....
also, i charge my phone daily, so im not too worried about charging it each day
