Isn't MP10 quite a bit shorter than MP01? Is he MP Rodimus size?. That would make MP Sideswipe something like Voyager size? :(

It says that TakaraTOMY will be making an announcement about the newest Masterpiece (MP-13) at Tokyo Toy Show 2012, 16~17/6. The article also confirms that MP Lambor (Sideswipe) will be transforming into a Lamborghini Countach.

I don't really mind that Sideswipe would be smaller, just as long as its reflected in a cheaper price point. But judging from the image he looks to be alot shorter than Prime, and this might make his car mode to small, but hopefully not.
Don't know who MP13 is, but Im not thinking its Soundwave. Great if it was.

Looks a little bulky to be SW and is missing the shoulder cannon. However I can't think of anyone else it could be. Putting the shoulder cannon on him would be a dead give away.

In an interview with the current Engineer of the Masterpiece line (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/japanese-transformers-40/takaratomy-staff-interview-masterpiece-174660/) (Graciously translated by SydneyY over at TFW2005 (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/japanese-transformers-40/takaratomy-staff-interview-masterpiece-174660/)), Shogo Hasui states that (Moving forward) the MP line of figures will all be in scale with each other as a further focusing of the MP line; Now whether he was referring to the Alt or Bot mode I'm not sure, but given the past 2 instances (MP9 & MP10) I'd say he's leaning towards Bot mode myself. ;)
Oh, and I don't see that silhouette as being Soundwave - Looks more like Hound to me. :)

This has now got me excited after a lil' break from buying any Transformers at all this year so far. Good. Just means I have more money for these. I think we all knew Soundwave (if it is him) would come eventually, so for me Sideswipe is a unexpected pleasant surprise.

I see Shockwave tbh.
The ears may be a little bit smaller, but you can just tell that the chest is massive.
One of the only TFs whose torso is that big is Shockwave (that I can think of).
Plus, the shoulders are somewhat fitting.

Hate to say it, but...the silhouette there doesn't look that different from Lambor. Could easily be Sunstreaker.
Still, it's not specific enough to really tell.

I thought I'd try lightening the image for more detail and looking at the elbows I think this is a behind view of Soundwave.

The lack of symmetry makes me doubt it's Soundwave as the shoulder 'bump' is too much on the edge of the shoulder to be the canon. The 'bump' could be Shockwave's arm hose as the silhouette is round which is a contrast to the straight lines of the rest of the mold.
However having said that, he appears to have two fists but that could be a trick as the writing is covering what could be the arm canon.

i can see a Hound in there or maybe even a Kup just going by the head. that bump is quite odd though....
i think it's most likely going to be Optimus Prime or Starscream

Lol wut? Sideswipe is tiny! If they're re-scaling the MP line (with MP-10 as the base size), then I really hope the price drops as well. It's gona be real hard to justify spending more than $150 on something so small; masterpiece or not.
I think you fanboys are dreaming if you reckon that's a silhoutte of Shockwave :p It's probably a Sunstreaker or Soundwave. Would make sense being a repaint or a figure with a simple design, given they announced it so early without MP-12 even close to release yet.

This man speaks the truth. I'm not interested in $100+ deluxe-sized MP toys.

BBTS Has MP Lamdor listed for US$159.00.
This is too expensive for a figure this size. I am sure that the paint finish will be very nice and far superior to Hasbro's eventual release but I don't think the price justifies what is essentially a Binaltech figure without the die cast.
I don't like the direction that Tomy is taking.

BBTS price is just an estimate isn't it? They don't know how much it's gonna cost so theyre pricing it similar to the last MP (MP11). I assume that that price will change as it gets closer to the release date and they get more info from TT. I highly doubt it will be priced at $159. Either way, my decision on whether to buy this or not will be based on a hasbro/TRU release locally and that price. I'm through paying twice as much for Takara releases.
Keep calm until we have facts. Then you can panic.

Agreed on the price..$160 is ALOT for that sized figure. Hopefully that is just BBTS pricing it high without knowing the retail price. What were the price points for Binaltech?

Normally BBTS pricing is around the actual online store cost of the figure give our take $10.

Nah that's just BBTS' early listing price. Look at MP-11S Sunstorm - they had him listed for preorder @ $249.99US, but that went down to $179.99US when it was actually released.
[edit] When they find out from TT how much it's gona retail for, they'll readjust their price accordingly

From the BBTS listing -
"Please Note The current $159.99 price for Sideswipe is an estimate from BBTS, we anticipate the actual retail price will be lower. Once official pricing is confirmed, we will adjust to final pricing."

Hoping it's Soundwave, he was on their "to-do" list. Doubt it's Shockwave without the laser arm.
Lambor looks kinda crap.. :(

Certainly a long way from what the MP line was originally, As long as the price point reflects the smaller size and cheaper materials I can live with it but I don't get as excited about the MP line like I used to. I do still enjoy seeing what figures will be released but don't make the effort to buy these straight away anymore.

Yeah, it kinda looks like it could be Soundwave (I hope it is!!) but it could be anyone I guess.
I don't mind the direction the MP line is going... kinda like what the "Classics" should have been: adult collector figs based on G1 cartoon/comic/toy counterparts (a little like MOTUC) with different sizes. More of a collector line, rather than a straight toy line at retail. I'm excited and I really hope it continues. I don't mind paying a little bit more to get these types of figures.

Looking at his back, if you spun the car roof around, swapped the arms, turned the head around, you'd get MP Classic Sunstreaker.

After that, it is clearly a repaint. I can see the 'bumpy shoulder' being the arm canon.
It's one of Sideswipe's repaints like Red Alert or perhaps a retool into Sunstreaker (if they are cheap enough but most likely Red Alert or another repaint character such as Tiger Tracks.).

I agree with Tober. Sideswipe's bot mode doesn't look as impressive as I'd hoped for. The Lamborghini bonnet looks oversized as his chest and his shins look too bulky.
Size-wise I'm not sure if I should be glad that he is smaller and hence in scale with Optimus, Rodimus and Grimlock or whether I should be disappointed that he looks like he'll only be as big as a Binaltech.
The only thing that will really excite me from the masterpiece line now is if they make either Shockwave, Galvatron or Megatron. And even then i'll only be happy if they're sized the same as MP-10.

Might get the Lambor Twins, if only because getting a Henkei Streak and a Classics Sideswipe will probably work out about the same price these days.
Hope they're not too costly.

Am I one of the few to notice that these shots of MP-12 are merely production renders and what that means? :p
Rest easy people, there is plenty of time for revisions & tweaks as I'd be extremely surprised if what we are seeing here are indicative of the final completed product. ;):)

That silhouette doesn't have Sunstreaker's head, and the flaring at the bottom of the legs doesn't match a Lambor repaint...
Still looks most like Soundwave to me...
Dare we hope for Ironhide/Ratchet... but doesn't seem bulky enough.

23rd May 2012, 11:57 PM
The head looks to square for Ironhide or Ratchet.
Whoever it is they have a big chest, I must admit I do see a bit of Soundwave in the newer picture, but the repaint theory has merit too.
Not getting my hopes up either way.

Saw the asking pre-order price of $150 for MP-Sideswipe. I was about to hit the pre-order button right away but then after realizing the size - sheesh that is steep. Though the order says that the price may change, perhaps by like $15 but that's still steep. I wouldn't be surprised if they did like a MP-Sideswipe Version 2 that fixed all the problems with the 1st ala MP-Rodimus

Yeh this new image has me stumped now. The silhoutte legs don't suggest a repaint.
Guess we'll have to wait and see!

This is what MP line is now reduced to? that's small as - prolly a bit bigger than Alternity but that is too much asking price for such a small figure even if it was die cast... still too pricy. This line is in need of a serious review.

I like the look of that render of MP Sideswipe - it looks pretty faithful to the original toy while adding some features of the animation model. Given the size, though, hopefully it won't be too pricey... or maybe I'll just wait for the Hasbro release.
