I'm trying to find that site that lists blu-ray submissions for approval, wherever that was (if you recall it gave us the first hint of us getting Prime S1 on blu-ray). That should tell us, and that announcement for Prime was a bit later, but this time I have that horrible feeling that we're not going to get blu-ray, which is just a damn shame, and shortsighted from Madman. Again.
If I have to buy it on DVD, I will, but I'd rather buy blu-ray, and I'm happy to admit I don't mind paying extra, so charge away Madman, just make the bloody things!!

Well, you just answered that question for me :)
The really annoying thing too is that there's literally no wriggle room on price either, as what you see there is often what the retailer has had to pay for it too, there might only be $5-7 profit per unit in it for JB in this instance. :(
It's this that has prevented me from buying most of their offerings, anime-wise, including the now out of print individual Japanese G1 Boxset releases, even with the assistance of my Brother's employee discount at JB HiFi. :(
(One can literally import the same things, postage inclusive, at half the price of what Madman offers )

I questioned Madman on facebook: (16 Sep)
"Hi Madman, any idea on a release date for transformers prime season 2, 3 and predacons rising on Blue Ray in Australia? It's all available on Amazon and at those prices extremely tempting. i'd much prefer the madman release though."
Madman's response: (1 Oct.)
Hi Dallas - all the titles you're chasing are scheduled for release in 2014.
In the meantime, if you attend any of our conventions, get over to our booth and ask for a deal on the Season Two Volumes.
We never like to lose a customer to the USA!
It's a bit dissapointing that these won't even be out in time for Christmas.

I now its important to support the local releases of this material, but really.... you can have the lot of them from Amazon so much quicker. In time for Christmas. And with special commentary for the predacons rising. After reading the recent news about delays, I'm not going to wait anymore, and definitely not going to spoil my first watching with a low quality torrent.

I can't believe I just gave Madman money. I just got the Remastered G1 set from work. I really shouldn't give Madman my money since they are treating us so badly with Prime. Plus splitting the Armadaverse DVD's up into two seasons per series doesn't win them any love from me.

Has anyone else found that the display ratio of the G1 Remastered Boxset is all skew-if?
I've found that with the 1st two discs at least, the menu's display correctly as they're designed to be in a 16x9 ratio, but the actual episodes (Natively 4x3) are being stretched to fit 16x9!?:(
I've assessed the my various settings between the DVD/Blu-Ray Player & TV and have determined it's definitely the DVDs because; when I play the older Madman Japanese G1 Complete collection DVDs, their menus are designed & display in 16x9 and the episodes too display correctly in their 4x3 format - all without changing a thing, setting-wise!:o
Has anyone else experienced this? - Is it a known production issue? - Because it's really frustrating having to constantly change my TV's display settings back & forth every time I want to watch the Remastered G1 Eps. :(

Sorry Delta... not aimed at you, just using your quote
Question guys.... Why do people complain that armada and energon are getting split? The series are intended to be 2 parts, armada was changed half way to be TF:Armarda "The Unicron Battles".... Energon was the "Powerlinx Battles".... CYbertron was "primus unleashed"
Basically mid 52 episode season/ a year on the shelves, they "split" the series and recolour or upgrade as many major characters as they can...
DELTAprime
28th January 2014, 08:29 PM
Because it is not normal. If you want to buy a season of a TV show (say Star Trek) do you have to buy it in two parts? No, you buy the complete season.
Each series of the Unicron Trilogy is one season long, not two. A mid season cliffhanger or whatever doesn't make it two seasons. Also the US publisher is releasing them as a complete series.

Sure the toy lines split with that repackaging, but the anime and dubs didn't break half way through to rebrand: they were continuous one season shows, so the split of the shows seems forced and artificial.
griffin
28th January 2014, 08:41 PM
Is there anywhere that they were originally announced as being two seasons? From what I remember of the official announcements (press releases and at BotCon), they were always noted or referred to as a single season/series, as they were always announced as one-off series/seasons of 52 episodes... and I've hardly ever heard of them being referred to as two (even by fans).
Even Beast Machines was a series of 26 episodes, screened during one Television season (Sept 1999 to May 2000)... but some (vocal) fans later split them up into two seasons, purely based on them seeing the standard feature of Hasbro adding a sub-title to their toy packs in their second year of most lines since Beast Machines, to help convince Retailers to stock the same toyline for a second year.
Battle for the Spark (Beast Machines), Unicron Battles (Armada), Powerlinx Battles (Energon), Primus Unleashed (Cybertron), Allspark Power (2007 Movie), Hunt for the Decepticons (2009 Movie), Movie Trilogy (2011 Movie), Beast Hunters (TFPrime), Energize (Rescue Bots)... even though some were incorporated into their applicable show/movie later, it was created just to sell the toys to Retailers first.

I feel Takara is to blame in part for the whole changing names and sub titles.
Fight Super Robot Lifeforms (G1 Season 1 + 2), Transformers 2010 (G1 Season 3), Headmaster, Super God Masterforce, Victory, Zone.
All Takara sub names for G1 series.

You need to think of television "seasons" as ratings periods or non ratings...
Here is a link to armadas original airing schedule, most of a series is weekly episodes, then both have a rush new episode daily to fit into the "block"
http://epguides.com/TransformersArmada/
Energon looks to be all over the place, but cybertron it's the idea perfectly with a 5 month gap...
http://epguides.com/TransformersCybertron/
Any issues are from a series being an import, but if you look at the simpsons, 22 to 25 eps a season, without the 3 part movies TFs usually have

Indeed... the multiples of 13 seems to be from projects that are purely American, and even then, a lot of shows don't have an exact multiple of 13 anyway.
But filler shows like kids cartoons wouldn't need to fit that format, as long as they have a minimum number of episodes to meet the network purchasing requirements.

There will be no Blu-ray release for G1, Japanese G1, BW, BM, RID or Unicron Trilogy. All those shows were mastered in 480i AKA Standard Definition.
There are some SD TV shows that are coming out on Blu-ray like Star Trek The Next Generation. But in order for SD TV shows to be converted to 1080p the show needed to be shot on film like a movie and then painstakingly remastered from that original film negative.
When Hasbro "remastered" G1 they basically just took the original 2.0 audio and put it on Rhino's previously remastered video and fixed up some of the more obvious, (but not all of them) animation errors.
TFA, Prime and Rescue Bots are all mastered in HD so Blu-ray is possible for them.

The upcoming DVD release from Shout Factory in June 2014 looks like much better option though:

I got the Madman version. The G1 episodes are the same as Shout Factory, so no Rhino sound effects. But there are a lot of animation errors in season one because it uses a mix of sharper looking but error ridden footage from the Rhino DVDs and the softer looking but less error ridden footage from the old UK DVDs. Not exactly the best remaster ever.
You do get the Shout Factory bonus features plus some Madman exclusive bonus features on the Madman version.

13 episodes, plus the 3-part "movie", which they might release on its own.
Considering the price of individual volumes here ($20 each), and since they released the first two seasons as 5 or 6 episodes per volume (see first post), it should have been three volumes ($60) with 5, 5, 6 episodes.... not 4 volumes with 4, 4, 5, and 3 episodes ($80).
I think they wanted the finale story on it's own disc, but it doesn't need it's own disc, as it isn't a new season, and follows on nicely from the 13th episode.
That's like having Gen1 Rebirth released as a separate "boxset" to the other three seasons, instead of with the third season boxset.

This is stupid. I want to be able to just put a Blu-ray of Prime season 2 in my X1, PS3 or PS4 and have it work. That means buying from Madman but the dam fools at Madman seem intent on ruining my enjoyment of Transformers.
I might buy a Blu-ray burner for my Mac Pro and convert the US Blu-rays from region A to region free.
EDIT: Wow, after looking at Amazon's prices for the Shout Factory Prime, Animated and Unicron Trilogy DVD's I think I'll make a big order of all Shout Factories DVD's and Blu-ray's in a couple of weeks and enjoy not giving Madman any more of my money.

With the Decepticons now in the possession of Predaking, all that remains is to gain complete control over the unruly beast, and unleash its destructive power on the Autobots.
Release: 06/08/2014
Runtime: 88 minutes
Rating: PG
Episodes: Project Predacon-Thirst
Honestly I'm a little disappointed that we have to wait until August for the next one. Maybe they're making these waits longer so that they'll last longer. Meh.

Are Madman and ShoutFactory the only two companies putting out Transformers DVD's and Blu-ray's other than Paramount of course? If there is a UK company that might work out better as they are in Region B for Blu-ray. As I'm finding out it's hard to get a region free Blu-ray player that isn't from a crappy company like Laser. I would just buy a Laser from work but we get so many returns on them it's not confidence inspiring.

They also had a new Prime Season 1 release, 5 discs in a slim case (compared to the box set of the first five DVD releases) for just under $40. Also has the new branding. It's also in the Big W catalogue for $5 less.

Unfortunately Hollywood still requires all video providers, no matter if it is a physical disk or download to be copy protected. Apple's files are MPEG 4 so other devices can play them, if you remove the copy protection.
Also I just bought Season 1, it's actually Madman that put them on there, but the listing in the store list Hasbro as the owner. They look great in 1080p.

I noticed when I ripped my Madman TFP S1 Blu-rays and the Shout Factory TFP S2, S3 and BHPR Blu-rays that Shout Factory's versions are lower bit rate. You can easily see compression artifacts in the SF Blu-rays. Madman's decision not to produce S2, S3 and BHPR on Blu-ray means the whole Transformers community has to put up with less than perfect video for a series thats CGI and therefore easy to get the best video quality possible out of.

After a sighting by Kyalrode (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?p=467868#post467868) of the Season One boxset of Rescue Bots at JBHifi store in Victoria, I had a look on the Beyond Entertainment site but it hasn't been put back up yet... but is listed on the JBHifi site (https://www.jbhifi.com.au/movies-tv-shows/movies-tv-shows-on-sale/tv-childrens/transformers-rescue-bots-more-than-meets-the-eye-set/697714/), for $20... which is a GREAT price when you see that the individual volumes were $13 each on release (later dropped to $10), with a RRP of $15-20.
Unfortunately, it looks like this isn't a complete Season One boxset... as it has only four volumes, and only 440 minutes (20 episodes).
I guess this is why the original listing was pulled - Beyond Entertainment must have stripped out a volume to get it under a price-point that retailers preferred.
It is still a good way of saving a lot of money on those first four volumes of season one, but to complete the set, you'll need Volume five with this boxset.
And it makes you wonder what will happen in future if they do future boxsets. Will the next one have Volume 5 of Season One with it and three of Season Two (which will only have four volumes).
So close and yet so far... because I won't be able to help sell it to non-Australians if it isn't an actual Season set. :(

Beyond Home Entertainment frequently release various box sets, bundling previous DVD releases, so I expect they will just bundle a few DVD volumes each time, at the price point requested by retailers.
Hopefully the box set will help improve sales more, so we can look forward to seeing the rest of the series.

Thanks to a tip off at TFW2005, the second volume for RID second season has been announced for a February 1st release here (http://www.dvdwarehouse.com.au/transformers-robots-in-disguise-misdirection-9318500075949.html).... and it is just 88 minutes long, meaning just four episodes.
I finally had a look for the first volume on New Years Eve at a JB Hifi, and was disappointed to see that it only has the first five episodes. I was expecting it to have 6 episodes, and then volume two would have seven episodes to make up the first half of the season... but now it looks like it will be three volumes, with 5 - 4 - 4 episodes on each to equal 13.
That would end up being six volumes for the entire second season. I think I'll definitely wait for a (cheaper) boxset... or wait until these go really cheap in a year's time.
:(
It's a long wait either way, but at least we are getting something released here, as the Americans don't seem to be anymore.
I know it is becoming an out-dated medium, but it is nice to have something physical in your possession to use or just display on the shelf, than having an invisible digital copy, that is either pirated, or not something you legally own (most digital downloads are just a "license" to only view the content, and it is usually restricted to the device(s) registered to the source, who can remove or delete access to that content, plus it is usually not transferable to other devices, even if you upgrade/get a new device or lose/destroy the old one).
