Looks pretty tight. Now all I need to see is a size comparison. Most likely going to be too big a classics collection, and too small for an (early) MP collection.

I was about to post the exact same thing. I remember how wowed everyone was by their prototypes, including me, especially the ones taken with masterpiece starscream.
On another note, as much as I love laserbeaks design, am I the only one who thinks his wings come out a little short? They're kinda stumpy looking to me...?

Both have pros and cons to their sculpt and design but are on par with one another (assuming the height is the same). The official one seems better for toy accuracy while the 3rd party is more cartoony.
Does anyone know if the 3rd party one has actually been cancelled? I assume given the circumstances.

Other than Buzzsaw (who I don't care for so much) ravage, rumble or frenzy better NOT be packaged with the inevitable repaint for Soundblaster, forcing us to have buy Soundblaster just for the other minions. TakTom can't be that cruel, surely. Could they?!

I like this a lot, the other minions look great also. though I don't want to buy a repaint of Soundwave just to get them.
looking closely at the pictures, I'm excited by what appears to be a 3.5 mm jack on the top of Soundwave and a small led light installation on the front.
If this thing will take a micro SD card and play music it will be the best transformer released ever.
The question now is:
Do I wait and see if there is a Hasbro release, potentially with extra minions at a lower price. if there is, will it still have what looks to be music functionality.
my wallet is crying right now.

I'm erring on the side of waiting for Hasbro. Judging from what's happened with MP10, I reckon they'll release MP Soundwave at a cheaper price (even by Australian RRP standards). Whether Hasbro Soundwave comes with the extra cassettes or not... either way I'm not keen on paying $210* for MP Soundwave w/ Laserbeak... then whatever extra price it costs to get the other cassettes. If they do the Soundwave/Soundblaster thing then it might mean paying $420* to get MP Soundwave, Soundblaster and all the cassettes.

Hasbro haven't announced if or when they will be releasing Soundwave. I'm sure they will, but it will be at least a year away. It will probably be exclusive and may not be released here. MP Rodimus was easy to find at a good price, MP Grimlock was at a decent price but I never even saw one, I'm not sure if Skywarp was even released here, MP Ghost Starscream was massively overpriced despite shelf-warming, MP Starscream was hard to find etc...
You can look at the potential $100 price difference as "impatience tax" or you can look at it as "assurance". Or both, as I do. :)

What are you basing that price on? At RK he still seems to be listed at $160.
But I agree, seeing as it looks like Hasbro's MP-10 will be equally as nice as Takara's, but cost 100-150 rather than 230-250, it seems wise to wait to check out what Hasbro will be offering.

My biggest concern is Ravage's split-head design... Soundwave is a very solid looking toy, Rodimus was always fragile looking, although plagued by QC issues.
Apparently what I at first thought was a mini-jack on the front is a LED light, mini-jack is on the top of the leg. And his hip joints remind me of Device Label Broadblasts, which had wiring - I will have to take a second look tho. Realistically, I wouldn't get hopes up, but it would be the cherry on the icing on the cake. :D

I'd prefer Soundwave without a MP3 device embedded. With phones and plenty of other electronic devices capable of playing music these days, it would just feel like a cheap and tacky add on that no one would use.

The 80s cassette player doesn't bother,e, but I already have the Device label soundwave and it is crap, in regards to being an MP3 player. Unless SW has speakers in him I would rather he be without music playing abilities.
I wouldn't want speakers in him because;
1 they's be crap speakers
2 they'd probably hinder his articulation/transformation and make him a bit more crap than he would have been without.

It's all good with these nice pics but I still haven;'t seen any next to any other figure so at least we get a good idea HOW TALL/BIG this figure really is? Coz, As with everything that HASTAKTOM is doing now with the Tf franchise - everything is shrinking. If the figure is at least as big as MP Grimlock I would be happy, if it was smaller.... that's just dissapointing :(:(

Oh you never know, the Japanese can be quite twisted in their.. erm... humour. ;) Of course considering that it is a business, they might just do that - who knows they might package - say - an MP Hound with Frenzy, and MP Mirage with Ravage - you know just to play out with the G1 episodes we enjoyed years ago. BUt, I for one am with you in hoping this prediction does NOT come to pass and just have them make issue an MP which is a minions pack - Say add Ratbat and Rumble to make a 5 minion pack - ID certainly buy that.

Blaster is a boombox (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boombox). Soundwave is a compact portable radio cassette player, similar to a Walkman (only that in Microman he was meant to play compact cassette tapes (microcassettes) instead of regular cassettes (as portrayed in Transformers). So Soundwave was originally meant to be 1:1 scale whereas Blaster really isn't.
rumble or frenzy
I'm guessing it's gonna be Frenzy.
Remember that in Japan the purple/blue robot that we know as Rumble in the cartoon was called "Frenzy" (and the red/black robot was called Rumble -- thus the whole FIRRIB/RIRFIB controversy doesn't exist in Japan!).
I have an order down for the Amazon release and a standard release. Also, I will have no regrets. It's exactly 6 months away from release and I'm pretty sure I can put a few hundred bucks together by then...
I'm still saving up for MP Sunstorm and United Artfire... going pretty well with that atm (easy when there's bugger all new toys on shelves :o)... maybe once I've finished saving for them _and_ saving for MP Lambor, I might consider MP Soundwave.
Basically for me, MP Soundwave is a lower priority -- Sunstorm and Artfire take precedent (as I've already pre-ordered them), then MP Lambor (as I consider him better value for money). But if circumstances make it too hard to save up for this toy for me, I'll pass it and wait for Hasbro's. :)
Hasbro haven't announced if or when they will be releasing Soundwave. I'm sure they will, but it will be at least a year away. It will probably be exclusive and may not be released here. I was able to find MP Grimlock easy enough at TRU in Caso and Parra. MP Skywarp I never saw; I think he was released in Toyworlds, which we don't have in NSW, but other states got them.
What are you basing that price on? At RK he still seems to be listed at $160.
Here (http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E3%83%88%E3%83%A9%E3%83%B3%E3%82%B9%E3%83%95%E3%8 2%A9%E3%83%BC%E3%83%9E%E3%83%BC-%E3%83%9E%E3%82%B9%E3%82%BF%E3%83%BC%E3%83%94%E3%8 3%BC%E3%82%B9-MP13-%E3%82%B5%E3%82%A6%E3%83%B3%E3%83%89%E3%82%A6%E3%8 2%A7%E3%83%BC%E3%83%96-%E2%80%BBAmazon-co-jp%E9%99%90%E5%AE%9A%E7%89%B9%E5%85%B8%E4%BB%98/dp/B008B403VS/ref=sr_1_1?s=toys&ie=UTF8&qid=1339661615&sr=1-1).
According to that link, the toy is meant to retail for 16590JPY, which equates to 209.38AUD. Although if you pre order you can get a 16% discount and pay 13886JPY or 175.25AUD. But the standard RRP is ¥16590
It's just going to be so hard to restrain myself, because Soundwave looks so damn good!
The Soundwave toy kinda reminds me of MP Grimlock... kinda like a larger and more complex version of G1 Grimlock, but otherwise kinda similar to the G1 toy, if you know what I mean. Other MPs are completely different to their G1 counterparts and are vastly more complex, whereas I found w/ MP Grimlock, the toy is like half Masterpiece, half oversized G1 toy. :o Looking at these pictures, Soundwave kinda looks that way -- maybe not quite as bad as Grimlock.
But I guess the original Soundwave toy was so well engineered, it may not be necessary to change all that much even when rendering it as a Masterpiece toy. But still... it would feel disappointing for such a hefty price tag. I could be wrong... I'm just guessing from looking at these pics. :p :p
Would anyone really want to take public transport holding an 80's cassette player :p ?
Like I need an excuse to hold a Transformer in public places! :p :D The only MP that I haven't taken on excursions is Megatron (for legal reasons ;)).
I think everyone did! They just wouldn't be Frenzy/Rumble without them :D
Frenzy. :) Looks like he's only gonna come with one of the humanoid Cassettrons, and I'm guessing it's gonna be Frenzy since he was far more prominent in the cartoon.
Also, I have no idea what that hand scanner is. Don't recall seeing that in the cartoons...
It's from the episode "Fire In The Sky," or "スカイファイヤーの再生" ("Skyfire's Resurrection") as it was called in Japan. :)

I reckon the pricetag was a good indicator that Soundwave wasn't gona be peewee sized. Looks like all the MPs are gona be scaled to Optimus in terms of cartoon accuracy.
Defcon
16th June 2012, 08:44 PM
Soundwave is a good size, and honestly the price is not really bad. It just comes down to personal preference. For me the new Optimus Prime was a bit pricey, but this seems more acceptable. So Soundwave comes with Lazerbeak, Hopefully they release a Cassette pack, hopefully with Buzzsaw, Ravage, Rumble, Frenzy. Predicting Soundblaster release with Ratbat.
I doubt a Hasbro release at retail will include 'All' the Cassettes, an exclusive at Comic con might but will be expensive. So really if you are going for a complete set the best way would be to buy the Takara release, and any relevant unconfirmed future releases. As an Alternative a Hasbro release might be cheaper, but likely incomplete. A release date might be another 6 to 12 months away.

I was initially very underwhelmed with the concept of an MP Soundwave (a robot that transforms into a brick) but boy have I come around. The Cassettes really do elevate it though, without Ravage and Frenzy/Rumble it might just be an "eh".

hmmm. Awesome as it might be with the details, articulation and accessories etc.... but the size is an issue for me still :(.... coz they made it compatible with the new shrunken MPs size ... this MP Soundwave will look like a midget next to my other MPs (MP 01 - 05) - the original sized ones.:mad::mad: drats!
Sigh, I might just get it anyways but I think Ill prolly end up getting the 3rd party one(if it get's released) coz the size just reaaaally is off putting when displayed.. aaaaaarrrrggghhh!!

But the 3rd party Soundwave was the same size as the MP seeker mold as well. Making it the same size as the MP Soundwave anyway...right?

I am so resoundingly impressed with the fact that these objects exist & that I'll be able to own them, Soundwave's proportions are so brilliantly realised both in stature & build whilst also retaining all of his original gimmicks; Just the fact that he can hold more than a singular cassette without having a goofily-extended chest/door cavity & being able to eject said tapes himself displays such a marked 'Masterpiece' level engineering improvement, if he were to also double as a functioning MP3 player it would indeed simply be icing on a magnificent cake. ;)
His paint app colours (whilst distantly viewed) look to be heavily Cartoon inspired with just the right amounts of trimming brought over from the original figure, his head sculpt looks thoroughly superb and his knees no longer suffer from backward-knee syndrome - His knees no longer suffer from backward-knee syndrome!
The additions of having both a miniature G1 Megatron in Gun mode (No doubt scaled to work with MP-10) & Official Energon Cubes (Note: They're empty because Soundwave produced vessels to be filled, never did he ever produce 'Filled' Energon Cubes from his chest ;)) as well as what seems to be an additional replacement 'Scanner' hand-appendage (Though yet to be confirmed I believe), all make for one incredibly complete Masterpiece Toy offering in my honest opinion. :D

Went looking for one today, but they were all sold out at everywhere except Hero Gangu, and I'm not so impatient that I need to pay the Hero Gangu markup to have him now...especially not with the kickarse haul I picked up in lieu of him.

I thought it was odd to have the Cube shown on the instructions, if it was just a JP Amazon exclusive.
Just having two extra ones makes the JP Amazon exclusive kinda pointless then if you don't get something unique.
I got my MP Sideswipe from Ehobbybase and it came with the coin and the chisels which I thought were a Amazon exclusive at the time. Maybe I'll be lucky and get both from Ehobby again :)

Sounds like you got the Asian exclusive -- the Amazon JP exclusive (not eHobby :)) only comes with the chrome chisels, but not the coin. Sounds like a lot of people ended up getting the Asian exclusive by the sounds of things.

Ehobby (as he called it in an abbreviated way), is Ehobbybaseshop and is located in HK like Robotkingdom. (it is unfortunate that they use that name, as it confuses some people in thinking we are talking about the JP company eHobby)
Being in HK, they get the Hasbro Asia toys, which is why he got the coin and JP Amazon exclusive bits.
Which is why we are hoping that Hasbro Asia did the same with Soundwave (by having an extra two cubes), but I don't think anyone will care, because it already comes with one, so it's not like we'd miss out on something unique.

Oh right, Ehobby, not eHobby. (you're right, that is confusing... but I'll be mindful of the difference in future)

I placed a preorder with TFSource back in October but haven't heard anything from them yet. Reading around it looks like some people have been charged and a few have received shipping notifications.
Unfortunately I hadn't heard of Robot Kingdom back when I ordered. The total cost will end up the same but I'll have to wait at least a week for shipping compared to RK's 3 day EMS.
I suppose there's nothing much to do but be patient and live vicariously through others.

Hmm, I think the problem is that they under-value their shipments to try and help people avoid customs duties which in turn limits the amount that can be claimed under insurance in the event of loss. I did email them about that and requested that they declare full value as thankfully it's not an issue here for goods <$1000. Now that I think about it though, I never had a confirmation from them so I may flick them another request just to be sure. Whether it will help in the event of loss is up for debate, but I'll feel better. :)
In any case, USPS international priority is 6-10 business days delivery time so I won't start to worry until at least that long after shipping. I haven't even had my credit card charged yet, and I'm not the only one. It's just a bit frustrating for a specialist TF supplier to experience a delay on a highly anticipated item and not offer any communication. :(

Hey, I want to buy mp soundwave from toy arena and take advantage of the free postage on any sales over $150, but when I go to the checkout page, postage is $60. Does anyone know if this is just for US customers or do I need to enter a code or something? Any info would be great.

I ordered MP 12, 13 & 14 from RK. They arrived in the country on the 27th of Jan and I didn't get them until the 1st of Feb. I figured that any hold up would be due to the flooding about a week earlier. Hopefully, yours will show up any day now (if not today).:)

Funny thing though, I didnt even use the instruction manual to transform him he is that easy to figure out.
