or bruticus or defensor ,but the other coloured ones (red hotspot/ white blast off, etc, etc, not sure of their proper names:o).

It's the Holy Grail Toy Scout Thread (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?t=7895), but this one's good as a fresh start.

I'm kind of short on Transformers grails at the moment - no matter how ridiculous they are, if you're patient and can throw enough money at something, most can be found. Right now the closest thing to a TF grail is probably the Brave Police construction site crime scene - the maroon version of Ironworks. If anyone ever sees one, please let me know!

I've actually picked up most of my grails, the only remaining one is a Classic Ultra Magnus to fill out my CC armor. I can probably toss in G2 FoC Combaticons there too.

Nowhere near actually achieving my holy grail, but I did just purchase Energon Terradive which means I now own one of Superion's feet (pending delivery).

If anyone's wondering why I bothered to buy Energon Terradive when the RotF Superion set comes with all 5 figures. The reason is that I found a really cool custom Superion that I intend to recreate for myself which requires 2 of the Energon Superion figures, 3 RotF Superion figures, G1 Superion's head and the Fansproject upgrade kit (obviously) which is going to be a slightly more expensive way of doing it, but will look incredibly awesome once completed. Plus this way I feel like I'm getting slightly closer to my goal without actually spending the much larger sums required to acquire the two more expensive components of Fansproject Superion.

Officially that reissue is called "Proto Colour" Astrotrain, because it's based on his prototype colours that we saw in the catalogues -- which the cartoon was also based on (so coincidentally the colours are also match the 'toon). :)

I've been wanting this for a while - it seems to stand well with Classicsverse characters. How does it feel in-hand?

He's just under 13cm, including the antennae... so he's shorter than most Deluxes, but taller than a Scout. But the very G1 aesthetic kinda clashes with the more contemporary look/feel of Classicsverse.

The black one's a limited eHobby exclusive which came in a 2 pack w/ a black, purple and gold repaint of RM Victory Leo. The set originally sold for 3360JPY ($41). The regular RM Star Sabre was available either individually for 1480JPY ($18) or you could get the RM Victory Sabre set for 2900JPY ($36). I went with the latter.

I don't actively collect vintage, so my wants are current/future stuff. MP Sunstorm is expensive ($150) and rare, but not vintage... can he count? And there have been some regular retail stuff which aren't limited per se or expensive (and definitely not vintage), but I've just personally found them impossible to find in local stores -- i.e. TFPRiD Knock Out, FoC Jazz, FoC Shockwave. They may flood store shelves later, but thus far I haven't been able to find them anywhere. I still can't find TFPRiD Vehicon anywhere, so he feels like a grail to me. It's kinda like the Ultra Transmetal 2s in 1999... they weren't really limited exclusives and weren't vintage, but I could never find them anywhere! The search for those buggers was just downright angst-ridden aggravation... so when I finally did get them (directly from Hasbro RI) it really felt like I'd obtained some kind of 'holy grails'.

My future expensive and rare/limited wants are:
+ United Artfire
+ Amazon exclusive MP Soundwave
+ Amazon exclusive MP Lambor
...I've pre-ordered them all, but yeah... they feel like grails to me.

But if you guys would prefer to limit the definition of 'grail' to something that is vintage, rare and expensive, then that's fine... I'll withdraw from this thread until ya know... I get Time Warrior for cheap (har!!). :p

That's just my thoughts on what I believe constitutes a 'Grail'; if your ultimate collecting goal was to acquire MP Sunstorm then who am I to tell you that you're wrong, but since I've known you - which has been a number of years now, you've made it quite clear that you would love to own Time Warrior. Which do you rate higher - Time Warrior or MP Sunstorm? Whichever the answer, that's your Holy Grail ;)

This is an Australian-exclusive reprinting of the original Marvel limited series (with a few pages removed from issues 3 and 4 including the cliffhanger). I bought this at the Noble Park newsagent something like 25 years ago and, as you can see it's been well loved.

It's a pretty rare item, but it would be great to get another copy in very nice condition (if such a thing exists!).

My Holy Grails were to have a 100% complete G1 Fortress Maximus & Scorpnok and was lucky enough to get them this year! Having our first child in December so purchases like that will never come around for me again :(

No complete Grails but very nearly one.
I would consider each of those individual Aerialbots and Stunticons as grails. The good thing about collecting gestalt teams slowly, member by member -- especially in the case of G1 as the gift sets were never released here -- you get to appreciate/enjoy each toy individually. Often when you get a gestalt team all at once, you see each toy as just a "component of one toy." When I get gestalt gift sets (post-G2), I make an effort to play with and enjoy each toy for its own merit. Usually I'll set the other toys aside and just play with that one toy by itself... like set up a mission where for some reason he's separated from his team members. :)

You are a far more patient man than me, sir. :) I find hunting for current toys which haven't been KOed yet downright infuriating. :( (T-T)

Chasing the G1's has been fun so far but I don't get that enjoyment out of finding current toys. Almost everything is ordered through BBTS and it's not often I miss what I want there. I collect all the deluxes and voyagers and have done that for HFTD/RTS (missed the fallen voyager), Generations (missing Asia exclusives for the moment), DOTM (missed a few exclusives as there was so many) and got all of TF Prime RID (no FE's but got a few Jap AM's that aren't coming here). It's more like a routine getting these, I do love them but there isn't a chase.

It will be the end of the month before I ship my POL because I'm waiting for FOC Bruticus, but when it gets here I'll post my mini Grails. Technically I have Motormaster too but it's one of the few toys I have from my childhood and it's in pretty poor condition with no accessories. So I'll need to get him again.

My 'Holy Grail' is on it's way. As part of my solidify everything into Classic/Universe (because I like my toys to be more than stylish bricks, generally), I took advantage of the almost $30 discount on Stepper at BBTS and ordered him.

The reason I didn't include it in was that I wasn't actively seeking the missing parts and had not expected to claim this prize for a few more years...but opportunity knocked.

Yeah, I got mine (the Ultra Magnus replete with CC set) a while back too, and he/they was/were totally worth the wait and hefty cost. My current plan is to eventually sell off the MIB CC set and Henkei Magnus I've now got spare as part of a Henkei/United '86 Movie main cast set, but I'm still missing a few characters.
I haven't opened the G2 Combaticons yet (and to be fair they weren't really a 'grail' so much as a 'want'), but thanks to Hursti they've been acquired as well.
I'd quite like a BW Tripedacus set, but it's more of a 'want' than a 'Grail'. I am sorta chasing an Overlord, but it's more to complete my LSotW main characters set than 'cos I really want it in and of itself, so I probably wouldn't list it as a Grail either.

The only thing that really qualifies as a 'grail' as such for the moment are the MMC Feralcons, and even then I'm trying to wait for a probably-eventually box set. If we're allowing 3rd Party stuff then by all means add them in, otherwise I'm Officially TF-Grail-less.

I view the holy grail as being the end of my toy-buying quest, the last figure I am ever likely to buy. That is and always has been Fortress Maximus, for me; I've never been able to afford it, even when it was reissued. But with the release of Metroplex trumping him as the largest TF, I may now never buy Fort Max. The journey is more important than the destination.

MISB Botcon 2005 Deathsaurus. Acquired last month.

This figure has become something of an obsession for me. I never owned a copy of the original mould, nor was I very interested in it. But there's something about this colour scheme that looks so badass to me. Not the most expensive modern-TF (post-G1/G2) out there, but damn it's been hard to track down - spent 3 years on and off chasing it. Every time I would acquire something that has taken me days or weeks to find, I would think back to Deathsaurus. Really wanted to kick myself when a minty one was sold for $160-shipped, just 2 years ago (I found out because I was doing a random eBay completed listings search, and realised it the auction only finished days ago).

Been bogged down with work since a long time, so right now he stands in a closet in robot mode, not even transformed once.

FINALLY got an Alternators Mirage today at SupaNova! I've been wanting this toy since 2006, but it was never released in Australia. I did get BT Mirage, but it's only clear -- really wanted a normal coloured version. I could never find one at AU RRP ($45) until today (well, $5 above, but near enough :o :p).

I had those and more (with the Dinobot one still sealed in plastic)... got them when I was kid.
Sold them off for less than 10 bucks for all after begging a fellow collector to take em off my hands... That was like 2 years back.

FWIW HasTak's reissues are genuine. :o Both of my G1 Prowls are reissues, my original was the 1990 reissue and my other is the TFC reissue which I only obtained earlier this year (or late last year?). So both are reissues purchased over 20 years apart from each other. I still have the box art from my Classic Prowl too (I clipped it out and saved it at the time). ;)

Mistake, ebay can get some absolute bargains from time to time where all else fail. As much as it is a place where there are scalpels , there are the occasional people who just sell off items reasonably.

its a silly rule yes :) life is dull without some silly.
its a combination of my built in hatred for ebay and my ability to impulse purchase. where would the thrill of the hunt be of trying to find one be if i could always just ebay it. this is why shopping for food is boring :)

Yeah i can see where your coming from. A big part of it for me was when i stumbled across some japanese g1 items in a shop in HK on my honey moon (had no idea what they were). This re-ignited the tf spark for me and i think that thrill is there everytime i see japanese g1 toys

I have my ultimate goal and holy grail as a collector: Transformers Animated Voyager Thundercracker. I know there are only a few known to exist, but it's my dream to get one someday.

I know Peaugh has (or had at least) one and another sold at auction. It will be a long time before I get him, if at all. I do hope Hasbro or Takara release him at some point in the Generations line or something.

Probably a low likelihood of this happening. I can only see Animated figures being brought back via TFCC/Botcon/FSS lines. Probably not as a Botcon-theme as they need to make up for 12-14 figures, and there aren't many unique moulds left that hasn't been repainted? Unless you go out on a limb with a whole lot super-obscure repaints (even more obscure that existing retail repaints) - Thundercracker/Dirge from Starscream, Deadlock/Drift from Blurr, Doubledealer from Blitzwing, Diaclone UM from UM, Axxor from Lockdown, Trailcutter from Sentinel Prime (?), Chromia/Firestar/Moonracer/Nautica from Arcee, Smokescreen/Bluestreak/Streewise/Rapido from Prowl, and multitudes of niche Bumblebee repaints...

TFwiki is oddly inaccurate about that one (I just had a look). In 2000-2001, I knew two different people who had the toy, so it's not like "it was not even 100% known what the toy looked like until a picture of it appeared in Transformers Generations 2009" and although there may have only been five offered as Lucky Draw prizes, it was a production run of twelve.

It finally arrived, and it is even more awesome than I was expecting.
Not only does it have the first of Simon Furman's epilogues to the Gen1 cartoon (Another Time and Place), but it also has seven of the B&W UK stories from 1989 to 1990, in FULL COLOUR! (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Transformers_Annual_1992)

On a happy note, managed to pick up one grail; an almost complete Grand Maximus for a great price. Missing big sword but has the G1 Fort Max sword instead. Good enough! Getting that thing home in one piece was no easy task.

Two good Grails there, especially Big Powered. I've massively minimised any TF collecting now but G1 Grand Max is the last of the big ones for me. He has dropped in price over the last year or so which puts him well and truly on the table. I've got to admit, while they're not quite 'Grails' in terms of sheer want-y-ness, Earthrise Skywarp.Thundercracker, the Siege Rainmakers, and ER Runabout are pieces I want quite a lot that are freaking hard to find for not-ridiculous prices.

I've recently decided that I want a reissue G1 Ultra Magnus too, I loved that toy as a kid but never bothered picking one up in Japan. There were a LOT of reissue Magnuses there though, so it's not super-elusive/rare/expensive like a Grail is supposed to be IMO.

I don't fancy my chances of ever having a TM Scourge. I wouldn't mind an Overlord either, but again, don't rate my chances. :p As ever I am very much an opportunistic passive collector of G1 rather than a more active collector. If the chance to get these toys at relatively cheap prices comes my way then I'll bite, but I'm not inclined to actively hunt them down and throw boatloads of cash for them. As you can see, with the exception of Overlord, none of the toys on my "wants" list are anything to write home about. :p Bunch of Action Masters and Micromasters, GPS-ridden Ultra Pretenders, underwhelming Mega Pretenders etc.

Cos let's face it, when it comes to Action Masters, if you've played with one you've played with them all (unless the weapon/vehicle particularly excites you). ;)
