The recently announced release of a demo for FOC has now got a date, and details (http://au.ign.com/articles/2012/07/26/play-transformers-fall-of-cybertron-multiplayer-on-july-31).
From 31st July (next Tuesday - probably Wednesday our time), the demo will contain two missions, a multiplayer game, and character customisation.

The demo is likely to be downloadable from the applicable online stores for PS3 and XBOX... and I'm thinking that they would be free.

Americans who pre-ordered their game through Gamestop, will have exclusive access to the demo four days earlier (27th - tomorrow, our time). So we're likely to see a few reviews being posted up tomorrow on the global fansites.

The article also shows us a video of what the Gen1 Optimus DLC/Bonus skin will look like.

Excellent news, a bit of a pity that there'll not be a PC Demo but eh, what are you going to do? :o

...so, this is available to Oz as well?

No idea.
You'd have to log into the store, and see if it comes up as being available for download.
I'd say it should be, since the game is being released here.

Just checked and the demo is not available using a PAL Xbox Live account.

I'd check the PAL PSN but my PS3 has the yellow light of death. :(

Cool. I'll have a look tonight. I'm on the fence as to whether or not I get this; the demo might be a deciding factor for me.

Are you going to fix it? I fixed mine a few months ago.

Nope, (As of 1:30pm today) the Demo is currently NOT available on the Australian PSN Store - I've tweeted both High Moon & Playstation Australia, querying them on the subject & why Australia is yet again left behind but I've received nothing yet. :(

Funnily enough, I literally just came back from the shops with a heat gun from Bunnings (for that very purpose). :)

EDIT: For those whose PS3's actually work, if you REALLY want to play the demo now I suggest creating a US account and downloading it off the US PSN Store. Don't bother on 360 as you need a Gold account (and would therefor need to provide bank details that match up to the "totally legit" US address you provided.

I downloaded the demo around 3:00 am for the Xbox 360.

Really enjoyed it. The Bumblebee stage is ok, nothing more than a tutorial level really.

However, the Vortex level is really fun. Half of the mission is flying and the controls were a bit tricky at first. Vortex has 2 modes in flight pretty much like that Arnie movie The 6th day. The normal copter mode is more maneuverable and the "jet" mode is faster. Really going to enjoy using him.

Multiplayer wise, I've only tried out team deathmatch, and I gotta say it's really fun. Very similar control layout to the last game. If your familiar with third person games like the awesome Gears of War, this should be no trouble at all.

This time you can actually play as all four classes. Scientist for the win! There is quite a bit of customizing for your character, but most of them are demo locked. I'm not a fan of the limited two-tone colour choice though. DLC could be really amazing for the create-a-character.

Both campaign levels are pretty short end I've yet to try the other multiplayer mode (conquest or escalation one of them, can't remember which one is available to play). Really enjoying the TDM mode though :)

BTW I don't actually own the first game, just going by the original demo.

At least for the Au/EU PSN, they update the store on Thursdays... (as opposed to US's Tuesday)

Indeed. Did all that plus reflowed the board using my new heat gun - still no go. I'm thinking the 60C my heat gun goes to on setting 1 isn't hot enough to melt the solder. Either that, or my PS3 is generally screwed. :p

Yeah, 60degrees ain't gonna cut it, you need more around 230 degrees. Here is the first of a 3 part YouTube vid on how to fix. Pretty much exactly what I did. Works a treat!!

Bro, I owe you one!! My heat gun can only do 60 or 600C so I thought what the hell, if my PS3 is gonna die it may as well go out in style. One fire alarm set off and a few concentrated blasts of ye olde heat gun later and...We're back in business!! :D I shielded myself with my dressing gown before powering it on just in case but waddayaknow...It just works. :)

If this also stops my PS3 fan from going from level 1 to 5 after 10 minutes I'll be very happy indeed!

Downloading the FoC demo now thanks to you. Cheers bud!

Yeah, I looked for this last night on PSN but like others have said, it wasn't available. I hope to get it before the weekend so I can have a play.

Tried to log on to PSN tonight and found I had to do yet another system update. Do they really need to happen so often? (But at least not as bad as Apple!)

Now that's out of the way, the FOC demo is downloading.

Update:

I'd watched a video of the Bumblebee demo level before, but it was fun to play. Mostly because being able to run around the Ark was a long awaited joy.

The Vortex level was quite good too. I liked the scale of the city and didn't want to follow Blast Off, I just wanted to hover around and have a look. It was more fun playing as Vortex than I expected, and the cutscene intro was an interesting look at the Combaticon team. (Makes me want those FOC toys more... :o )

Looking forward to the complete game. Might replay WFC over the next few weeks to get ready.

Frequent updates + console susceptible to YLOD (http://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/general-ps3-discussion/9112-what-ylod.html) = Good chance of console bricking = Increased likelihood of $$ being spent on new console or repairs. Makes prefect business sense to me. :p

I just went through both Bumblebee and Vortex's campaign demos. Is the name High Moon indicative of how much crack they've been smoking to release a demo with gameplay we've already experienced for hours in WFC? Being able to play as Jazz, Grimlock etc would have made a lot more sense and would, you know, actually whet peoples appetite for the main course.

Anyone know if experience and leveling made during multiplayer will transfer to the full release? Don't want to spend hours leveling up just to have to start over when the full game comes out.

But that would then take the hype out of the main feature that they have been pushing (in Grimlock' case). Since it seems each level is a different TF, a full level of Grimlock would mean that Grimbo is finished. No reason to buy the game now.

I wouldn't reveal my 'trump' card either, so not all that surprised it feels like WFC.

I believe that High Moon's Twitter account has gone on the record to say that all experience/rankings obtained during the Demo will be reset upon full release, sorry to be the bearer of bad news. :o

I would have to agree here. :)

My only gripe thus far is that the name "Bumblebee" is said far too many times during that tutorial level and the fact that BB is mute seems very much like a Hasbro decision too IMO.

I really enjoyed the demo and didn't mind it being not too far removed from WfC. It definitely looks more polished and the screenshots it shows after completing the demo stages have left me salivating.

I thought the inclusion of the triple changer section in the demo was a nice touch, and from what I've seen of the released gameplay footage so far I'm looking forward to a much more immersive experience than the last instalment.

Downloaded the demo last Friday but didn't get a chance to play it over the weekend. I did manage to watch one of the opening cutscenes and from what I saw, I'm impressed.

Played the Bumblebee campaign over the weekend and it was quite entertaining. Didn't get enough of a feel for it to make me want to buy the full game though. I might just wait for it to come down in price rather than buying it the day it comes out.

I quite enjoyed the demo, although I found Votex's level more fun than Bumblebee's.

And can someone explain the point of the run option? so far I found it quicker and easier to transform and boost, rather than hold for the dash and run thing, the run is so slow to not only run, but turn as well. Just feels a bit sluggish.

There are some cool weapons there though, I managed to get some kind of acid gun as Vortex from one of the random weapon generators and slimed a bot. Flew up to go have a look at him and got blasted by that stupid big cannon in that level.

Haven't enjoyed the multiplayer that much though, mainly die to the fact I keep dying very quickly. Much like every other time I get online and play...:o

Home sick, I got a chance to try the multiplayer deathmatch in the Demo and it was more fun than I expected. My rookie character took a few too many hits, but I had fun getting a grudge against my killer(s), and the "killing the last person who killed you" reward was nice to get. I got a higher kill rate on my second match when I was assigned to the Decepticon team.

Not going to play more until the final version's released and the leveling up counts, but I certainly did enjoy it. Except hitting opponents flying in jet mode was almost impossible.

Looking through the customisation options did seem to reveal two more Stunticons are in the game too?!

I played the PS3 demo. Pretty impressive and I did find the experience enjoyable and much more refined than WFC.

I was really impressed by the Bumblebee level despite it being just a tutorial as it had the more 'G1' feel and as Paulbot said, it was fun to run around the ark. I am really looking forward to the main game.

I did have a bit of difficulty in the vortex level due to clunky PS3 controls though but it was still pretty good. I did not find the acid gun however but did enjoy the level's difficulty. The enemies also seem smarter and dash at you when you get close or run foe cover when they feel outgunned.
