Or maybe when you see the price of them on the secondary markets? :p I got Classics Ultra Magnus + MISB City Commander for a really good deal some time ago, but got stung bad on Warbot and Bruticus.

I think most people would agree to perceive FP's products as the higher quality amongst other third party producers. That, coupled with their relatively less expensive initial market price makes them very desirable, and more prone to catching the attention of a larger audience. More demand on limited supply will raise the hurt on future wallets :p If seeing a price jump makes one feel skeptical, I'd say it's strongly unlikely that those Stunticons will depreciate - so at least you could always resell back on market for the same price :)

My first instinct with that car is that it looks like a Transformer just a fraction of a second after it starts to transforms from altmode (with the panels beginning to lift out). Which makes it a good choice.

If that's the car they're going to use for Wildrider, then I really hope they somehow use a shiny black plastic instead of FP's signature matte finish plastic (as consistently used in all their releases minus the not-Insecticons) :) That would be the icing on the cake for me, however of course I'm still all over this set even if they don't :p

That flat shipping fee would not be too bad if we can get the full set for that one-off cost - $200 for Dragstrip, Dead End, Wildrider and Breakdown + $50-75 for Motormaster + $100 shipping (or at least that's the hit I've prepared myself for). Still beats the $65 + shipping that RK was asking for FP Insecticons. Probably won't happen straight away though, as they'll likely be releasing one or two figs at a time. Hopefully when they release a 5 piece boxset it will be at a more attractive price not too far down the track.

The unfortunate thing is that once they are sold out, they immediately get up to a 300% mark up in the after market due to demand.

Thankfully the 3rd parties are more willing to do second and even third releases of popular toys but that is not guaranteed and often even online stores maintain a mark up price for the re-release.

I'm game. Group ordered with an awesome Ozformer (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?t=10763) last time, but happy to go direct this time. Interested to see if they eventually go anywhere with this 'crystals' system.

I'm surprised they chose to do Assaulter's sales through FPC again, as it was an epic amount of work for that one-guy doing all the shipments and packaging with Steel Core. Hope that one-guy has more help this time :D They shipped chronologically according to order sequence, so will bite as soon as it's up on their website.

That and his sheer size may add significant weight to the figure. So there could be a chance that FPC may re-evaluate that $50 per max 3 fig flat rate.

All US and International Shipments will be shipped via USPS using Priority Mail and Priority Mail International with Delivery Confirmation (tracking will be provided to customers via email). All shipments destined for Canada will be shipped via Canada Post Expedited Mail (tracking will be provided to customers via email).

Hopefully international shipping will be capped at $50, since they're using USPS Priority. Otherwise the size/weight might mean more shipping cost.

For the time being, it's a bit hard as FPC only allow one of these bundles per shipping address. So any group orders would mean only one person gets Assaulter.

Considering the $250 before shipping price tag, Steel Core was $70, Defender would be $70-80, so Assaulter should be $100-110 given his size?

It does look like the robot lying down with his arms stretched forward, but all good as long as it doesn't hinder the two other more important modes.


A small photo of the Fansproject Warbot Assaulter packaging has been posted on a Transformers fan blog. The packaging shows all of the rumored 4 modes: two robot modes, cruiser mode, and jet mode. The primary robot mode is indicated to be 20 cm tall, or just under 8".

Two robot modes? Looks more like just two different head sculpts (IDW and the red face from G1 cartoon).

FansprojectCore (the FP website) is not a division of Fansproject (http://www.fansprojectcore.com/news/2012/10/03/fpc-where-are-you-at). The FP guys like to concentrate on making toys, whilst FPC takes the media/PR strain off their attention. It seems like the head of FPC knows the FP guys closely, and thus gets some perks, i.e. the Warbot bundle, Steel Core. But other online resellers are also getting exclusives to their own website too, i.e. TFSource getting the awesome retooled Armoured Battalion set (http://tfsource.com/products/view/product_id/5260/).

I'm sure it's not worth FP's while to close off other channels of redistribution to just their website, it just doesn't seem like a good long-term business growth strategy.

It has been much discussed on TFW. (http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers-3rd-party-discussion/670853-fansproject-re-release-explorer-munitioner-new-color-scheme-11.html)But the fact that there were only 100 of each, there is nothing saying that these are the re-colours, only BBTS had some, not TFSource or Captured Prey or any other site, a few members of note who claim to be in the know saying these are not the re-colours, and when in the history of 3rd party TFs has the 3rd party add on been released before the official product? Remember that the reissues are different colours to the original release so as to better match the Asian exclusive I assume that they would need it in hand to match the colours.

So if you want solid facts, I have none to give you.:) But all signs point to this being the case.

In other news, I got Assaulter today. I sat down and opened him tonight and had a play.

At first I was really disappointed with it. But I persevered for a good hour and is I really like it. Not as good as SteelCore but still worth the money. He is fairly huge too!

Thought I'd post up a few thoughts and photos of Assaulter.

They do a great job of shoe-horning him into the same size box as the other 2 Warbots, because the first thing you realise is he is HUGE and heavy. He has a fair bit of die-cast in his legs so that is where the extra heft comes from.

First thing I noticed when I got him out of the box is how solid he feels. The weight adds a lot to this butit really does seem to be very well built.
Articulation is good, but his hips have ratchet joints that were VERY tight to move at first. I actually thought I was going to snap the joint before it gave and clicked. Phew!

Anyway here is the robot mode next to classics Screamer for scale. As you can see he is pretty big. He is a little patchy from the back but I don't see it as a problem. If you're a bit nit-picky you might but remember he is a triple changer!

There is an alternate robot mode which apparently is more reminiscent of Broadside in the Marvel comics. This is done by flipping up his face shield, rolling the plane canopy and rotating the legs 180 degrees. His guns can also become axes by folding out the blades.

First time I saw this look I hated it. But letting it sit infront of me while I was watching the cricket last night made it grow on me. There is actually a fair amount of detail in the face sculp which is nice. And I now quite like it. I still like the classic look best but this is a nice extra this is completely unobtrusive.

On to the transformations.

First one I did was the SDF-1 style carrier (this is the first one in the instructions). As usual I found FPs instructions l a little hard to follow. As there are no words, it is hard to understand what they are trying to tell you, but I got there in the end. Transformation on this guy is actually fairly easy and intuitive. That is not to say there is not a lot to it, just after the first time I have not had to look at the instructions again.

From what I have seen, in a triple changer one mode is usually compromised due to the level of complexity of the toy. And in Assaulter that is the carrier mode. It is very busy/messy with a lot of holes. But it still is a pretty good mode considering. The more I look at it the more I like it.

The comic shows Assaulter as a little bigger than normal, but states mass shifting as the way he can achieve super-massive size. (Has Hasbro ever laid claim to the term 'mass shifting'? Or is it more a fan term??:confused:)

While the carrier mode is messy and has many holes, the plane mode is the exact opposite. It is very neat and... enclosed. It is great. While I have no idea what (if any) plane it is supposed to look like, it doesn't matter. he folds up really well to make it with no indication that this mode has been compromised for any other. Considering his size and bulk this is a very well executed alt mode.

I like the approach that FP used here. Rather then have 3 ok modes, the were able to give us 2 great modes (3 if you count the alternate bot mode), and one ok mode. They sacrificed one instead of all 3.

I do however have to QC problems with the plane mode. There are 2 sections that are supposed to tab together, as shown in the below photo, 1 is the nose and the other is at the rear. But no matter how hard I push, wriggle or twist, they will not click together. I think the tabs are too big for the holes. Does any one else have this problem?

While this is not a massive flaw, it does irk me that I have this awesome bot with these 2 niggly little problems. But overall they are the only issues I have with it so I am very impressed.

I rate this guy up there with SteelCore, which I rated pretty highly. He is not as poseable as SteelCore but still well worth the money and an excellent attempt and a triple changer.

I also had the same issue as you in the plane mode. After some persistence I actually managed to get the 'tail' part of the plane together. What I did was I 'pinched' the two halves together from what would be the top of the shoulders and it worked nicely! It was much easier afterwards, kind of how it was hard to lock in the leg tabs in carrier mode at first.

I also noticed that the nose of the plane suffers if something is unaligned but it's not perfect.

I was tempted by this guy (after all, Warbot is good) but that air craft carrier mode just looks awful. If I didn't know it was supposed to be an aircraft carrier, I wouldn't be able to work it out.

I think the jet mode was the alt they started with and just winged it from there for the other.

If space carrier is not your thing (some people have already remarked it looks reminiscent of some of the Macross carriers), there are some fanmodes to make it look more like an earth carrier (http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers-3rd-party-discussion/714199-fp-warbot-assaulter-fanmode-compilation.html). They are quite gappy though, so you probably wouldn't like them if you didn't already like this guy.

The assaulter carrier mode is definitely more focused and involved than that but I can see where you are coming from.

Yeah there is limited appeal in this repaint set as not many people really remember or care for the Deluxe Insecticons. They were even neglected in the original Marvel G1 comic run.

Brainstorm looks good in his Sci-fi 'Star Fighter' design. I am looking forward to the robot mode.

Weirdwolf looks great but the head sculpt doesn't seem aggressive enough. However that could easily change with the final paint job as the red eyes would make a huge difference there.

I'd say that their initial release will be individual, but I wouldn't put it pass them to release a recolours set later as the g2 stunticons. Maybe that's wishful thinking but they need to recolour the mold to get the most from their investment and the g2 recolour is a obviouse choice

Weirdwolf's longer nose does make him look comical, but I think the other factors that's reducing his ferocity are lack of sharper-looking fangs/claws and perhaps he could have had his ears drawn backwards to imitate an attack pose. That being said its a very nice update to the original anime design, and I do love how they got his waist thin rather than bulky - must be a tight fit for Monzo!

Certainly is a sad state of affairs huh? - I like purchasing from Asia-based retailers because they save us SO much money when it comes to postage + they've got fairly comparable customer service, sucks that FP & RK have had a falling out. :(

Yeah, admittedly I was a little 'Huh?' when I saw how the gun split to form the 'twin' exhausts - Not so much the concept or execution, but more so due to the gun being so 'blocky' making itso distracting. :o

I've got my preorders in too. It looks like fansproject are planning a release at least one figure a month this year. They had chromedome in January, breakdown this month, wild rider next and weirdwolf and brainstorm to follow in April and May. That will leave the last seven months for the three remaining stunticons and the four headmasters. It looks like they will have them all out by December if they stay on track

I'm a big fan of the updated alt-modes too, nice and exotic and not out of place with some of the other more outlandish alt modes in the classics universe. Hopefully Motormaster knocks it out of the park, a little hesitant to pre-order sight unseen, but went and did it through BBTS anyway...guess I can always cancel if Motormaster pics show up and he's a complete PoS.

He's actually being described as being far closer to a Voyager size as he comprises the Prime Mover & Trailer with very little if any 'Parts Forming'. ;)

These guys are a bit overpriced for sure, but I doubt we'll ever get a better Classics Menasor. I'm a big fan of the updated alt-modes too, nice and exotic and not out of place with some of the other more outlandish alt modes in the classics universe. Hopefully Motormaster knocks it out of the park, a little hesitant to pre-order sight unseen, but went and did it through BBTS anyway...guess I can always cancel if Motormaster pics show up and he's a complete PoS.

Now I just have to wait and see if these guys will all turn up within the 180 days for the pile of loot system, which for me runs out 24/07. They're supposed to be all out and done by the end of May, but we all know how this 3P stuff goes...

I went ahead and slapped down pre-orders for the first two of these guys. I'll ship my POL once the whole set is out. :D

As a question, can you ship certain items within your POL separate to others?
It's just that I've got those 2 & the 1st 2 Predacons POLd & I'm figuring that all of Not-Menasor will be out before the 1st 2 Preds even show up to be shipped. :o

Put off a tad by the whole the bots basically form shinguards for the legs (the laziest of gestalt design), but then at 2 bots already pre ordered I'm committed to seeing this through.

Huh, interesting. I guess you could probably email them and ask them to extend it anyway if it was just waiting on one single item anyway...

I'd rather have the stuff to enjoy and put on display than have it languish in BBTS' storage room for a year just to save a few bucks.

Exactly. Captured Prey would like to add a PoL feature in the future which would be GREAT since they generally have the better US-based prices on 3P stuff. Plus, Sidecutter's a good guy a spends a lot of time on the TFW boards communicating with folks.

My last POL I shipped last year saved me around $45 in postage on 3 items. Depending on what your buying and how much it weighs, as that is how postage on additional items is calculated (for my shipping option, $6 per pound), it can be definitely worth it.

Think you're missing the point. Sure, there are savings to be had. I'm not denying that. But over the course of an entire year, the $40 you're saving just simply means that you've got stuff on the other side of the world that you can't enjoy.

95% of what I use it for is preorders. But at the same time stuff sitting on the other side of the world for about 1 month or 2 doesn't really bother me. I don't let it go any longer than that. Besides, sometimes it takes me ages to get around to opening a toy anyway.
