View Full Version : Turn the Ford Falcon car into a Transformer!

When I recieved this news from news.com.au, I couldn't believe what I saw.

Ford Australia is kind of low, so they pulled this move for some odd reason.

THE humble Ford Falcon is about to undergo a massive transformation to star in an upcoming video game.

But it's not the transformation Ford wants, which would take the car from a fading showroom flop into a born-again success with buyers.

Instead, the Falcon will be morphed into a Transformer for a war between Autobots and Decepticons.

Gamers are being asked to put their twist on the Falcon by choosing from a range of characteristics for the Australian version of a Transformers car.

They will help decide which model, what colour, whether it will be an Autobot or a Decepticon. They will even decide its name.

The results will be passed to High Moon Studios for inclusion in the company's 'Transformers: Fall of Cyberton' game, which is being unveiled on August 22.

At least there is a guaranteed outcome, as the most-recent entertainment twist on the Falcon saw it transformed into a 21st century Interceptor for a potential Mad Max revival.

The movie is going ahead but, despite a successful display at the Melbourne Motor Show and internet interest from around the world, Ford Australia could not raise enough money to take the Mad Max idea beyond a scale model.

Gamers who want to follow the Falcon should head to the car and company's Facebook sites.

People on facebook already voted that the Transformer be an Autobot. Now the kind of car its going to be is up to you to decide.

You can place your votes here: http://www.facebook.com/FordAustralia

Sounds interesting. And good to have something exclusively Australian with Transformers.

Two things odd about this though...

1 - I wonder how it could be included in the FOC game (not the game itself obviously) with it being released in just 14 days time, so is likely to already be produced and on its way from the factories to the stores.

2 - Ford is the rival to General Motors, who is the car company "partnered/tied" to the Transformers (Movie) Franchise... so it is surprising to see Ford gaining access to the Transformers universe, unless they saw the financial reward of GMs involvement.

Perhaps it's Grimlock? Dinosaur on wheels.

Found this at Seibertron.com

I'm not sure which model I would vote for - I drive a Holden!!

But it'd have to be a ute though, surely.

If I had to pick a rubbish falcon, I suppose it's gotta be the XR6 Turbo. I would've loved to see a Focus RS Decepticon!

That's exactly what I was thinking...

I read elsewhere that the responses Ford receives will be given to High Moon studios who will create a piece of "FoC style" transformer concept art for Ford to use. It probably won't make it into the game or dlc (unfortunately).

^Yeah, it's going to be a concept art.

More importantly, I hope they give it an Australian-based persona in the tech specs bio. Because that's what we did with the Autobot Chainmasters for the Sabretron 2004 convention -- they all had Australian-based colours and each had a different kind of Australian-based/inspired personality. I personally would love to see this Autobot portrayed as an egalitarian, because I think that's one of the great things about Australian culture/society (at least in concept). :)

Eehh, it wouldn't be the first time a car company has done a cross-promotion with Transformers. Remember the following?
+ Mazda RX-8 and Binaltech Zoom-Zoom (red version of BT Meister which also came out at about the same time)
+ Movieverse Bumblebee transforms into a 2009 Camaro... even though he appeared in the 2007 Transformers film
+ The Chevy Aveo TF promotion

...some car manufacturers have used faux-Transformers to promote their cars, but without needing to collaborate with HasTak or get involved with the Transformers franchise, such as:
+ the transforming Mini Cooper advert
+ Citroën's "alive with technology" campaigns

And there have been some stupid ones like Holden's campaign where the cars transform and tuck inside the drivers' bottoms as they walk away happy (presumably in excruciating agony), or the current Suzuki ad where bits of the car shift around for no apparent reason. But this would be a first for Australia though IIRC.

What ever this promotion ends up yielding, you can bet it'll be typically Fixed Or Repaired Daily. :p:D

It's about time a australian car manufacturer got in on the transformer title, I think it is because it now is the trend to have a autobot or decepticon logo on your car. Like the ones for the Mazda with the devil horns, I have seen plenty of cars with it on them. And as a road worker I see lots of cars with the autobot/decepticon logo on them. Actually i was in Rose Bay today and a Jeep Wrangler drove past with a massive autobot logo on the bonnet like Hound. I even have the decepticon logo on my XR6 falcon :D

I guess eventually He or She will be Found On a Rubbish Dump somewhere, but I hope it'll be First On Race Day.
If only it was Decepticon, it could race dirty.

Thats cool! I saw a mustard coloured Jeep driving around with an Autobot logo the other day, all i could think was, he had the wrong badge cos he was driving Swindle:rolleyes: crazy guy..

edit: Would be good if he put a semi retractable bonnet scoop on the one you saw, that could pop up with Hounds face on it, G1 style

Our trains over in Perth are actually giant transforming robots too. never seen them as robots though. :(

Hehe :p:D

I'd be more favourable to this if it had been a Decepticon, I get the feeling though that it was always going to end up as an Autobot purely due to 'favourable' marketing reasons... I mean, who honestly could see Ford Australia promoting what could be their last Falcon model and it being the 'Bad Guy' in said advertising? :(

A missed opportunity.

Isn't it a good thing that this guy is done?

He's going to be an Autobot, he'll transform into a Falcon XR6 Turbo, will be Falcon Blue, and will be named Falcatron.

We'll know the character's concept art in the next couple of weeks. :D

^ that's pretty average.. They really didn't give people a lot of choice as to what it was going to be named (i would've gone with Bluovulator)
I guess i should thank my stars the colour wasn't "The Australian Flag"
Why can't we just have Barricade to represent?. don't answer that... Saleen or something

That would be a cool idea G-rock, freak a few people out to by putting LEDs behind the eyes so that it looks like he is about to transform :D. Even at night would look better.

Have to agree with the naming too, when the FB site asked about a name and faction I recommended it be a Decepticon and call it Doubledealer.:) Pretty lame they are calling it "Falcatron".

F6 ute or sedan as Cyclonus

A shame it didnt end up being a ute

Here are my two sinister cars, a 2011 FG F6 ute and 2011 FG FPV GT.

The GT is called Megatron and the F6 is called Galvatron.

Just kidding, the BA-onward are way superior to the AU... and pretty much every other Falcon after the XY. ;)

They're just pet names. No plates and no Decepticon badges.

I changed tyres and rims on the F6. I am running Enkei GTC01 rims 19 * 8.5 fronts (245/35/19) and a FAT Enkei 19 * 10 on the rear (275/30/19).

Funny thing about the FG was the rear tyres were so in. The good thing is that the tyres bulge out more. Also a lot more grip and less wheel spin.

I had the GT first. I bought it in April last year. In May this year, I bought the F6. Originally I was looking at an XR6T 50th anniversary. But after taking it for a test drive, I didnt buy it. I was too used to the Brembos so I considered a 2nd hand F6. But then I found this '"demo" F6 with 289kms on the clock in Melbourne really cheap so I flew down and drove it back... It happened that this car was black, so I call them the 'twins'.

The Enkei rims were off my old Nissan 370Z. Thankfully they fit.

The GT is a 5.0 Supercharged V8 335 BOSS motor. I actually prefer the F6 more than the GT. The GT is more refined whereas the F6 is a feral bitch.

Here are more pics of the ute.

I did think that about the FG ute when it first came out. Looked like it could use some wider wheels on the back (like what you've done)

and "really cheap" is always good
