Yeah I read about people talking about Megachild but couldn't see how they knew it was included in the design until I looked at the pic more closely.

It certainly looks very much to be in the same sculpt style as Hexatron.

The render has no IDW lips but that doesn't mean anything. I just hope the face sculpt ends up like the PE upgraded Botcon Overlord. Despite the terrible choice of body for the character, that retooled head was really good.

Looks like Overlord's IDW lips have become the new 'tilting ankles' at TFW for Carnifex. People are threatening exclusively to boycott if he doesn't have the lips and not just any lips but 'Sexy pouty lips that look good.'

Naturally there is also the opposition who want a strictly 'geewunn' inspired Overlord and for him to be gigantic for base mode. The IDW People point them to BTS Toys but they don't seem interested in them despite them catering to what they want.

I think the main impeding factor to free play with Hexatron are the sword sheath ports. Moving them around and getting them in their respective sweet spots for each of the modes meant that Hexatron needed to be handled with more care.

like if you look at MP-10 and Mp-13 - they're very easy to play with and dont have anything hindering the arm and legs. I love how i can dynamically pose them without trouble.

Ah ok. I don't find most of those issues so troublesome but then again, I don't know how you play with your toys. Plus those things are an mostly an inheritance of the G1 design, specially the chest flaps which the designers must have felt to be 'intergral' to the Sixshot character look and I agree with them. To me the only real problem which I agree with is the scabbards but as mentioned, they are removable.

It's a small jet (part of the larger, Megajet) that flies off from Overlords left arm. Featured in the Masterforce episode "Super Ginrai gets blown away in the desert?!".

To be fair, I would quite like sexy pouty lips (for the IDW resemblance) and a decent size (~12-14-odd inches should do nicely, Titan size seems a bit much), but still...

Much like Arcee being an Office Lady in Headmasters, Mega's gender means she was always going to be put into a suitably 'feminine' role, hence the "Mega-Child" schtick.
This place can be kind of sad/frustrating sometimes.:(

Heh, if it's anything like Hexatrons gestation we'll have to wait till 2016 to get our MMC Overlord.

Nonetheless if they take the best elements from existing Overlord homages and maintain the robustness of Hexatron then he could be awesome.

I really don't understand how anyone could find Hexatron not play friendly, he's one of the most solid large transforming robots I've seen in years. I hope they make Carnifex the same size, in fact maybe they could make a whole Phase Sixer line. :D

He is definitely worth it. Best plastic quality compared to my other 3rd party bots, better than FP or MT in my opinion. Plastic is quite thick and heavy with the exception of his hands, its not thin or fragile but something about getting him to hold his weapon. Its hard to explain but getting him to hold his knives and guns is a bit of a challenge, you need to find the "sweet spot". If you keep forcing the weapons on his hands might cause stress on the plastic.

Transformation is good, its not complicated. Everything locks in place on any mode.

I have a couple of nit picks, one is the combined mode is too short IMO. The individual bots are massive but the combined mode is a mere 12.5", it should have been at least 14" to 15". Another is the paint apps, don't get me wrong the paint apps are great but it doesn't match plastic color, not noticeable but paint apps have a darker hue.

I think he displays well with MP's. If the combined mode is taller it would have been perfect.:D

I'd be afraid after Transforming it a few times or holding the sword for too long it get'd ultra loose and floppy because of the size and chunkiness of everything (and not in a bad way--Predaking is one of the few combiners I think should look huge and intimidating in that way). It looks like the limbs would be very heavy.

Bovis turned out to be a very well designed and crafted toy. Whoever MMC has working for them is very talented.

I did not detect any of the plastic 'butt cracks' or grinding elbow gears issue as some have encountered. The toy is marvelously engineered and although not as clever as the FP Headmasters, it retains enough of a satisfying and streamlined transformation between modes to make it interesting.

The only real flaws I can think of is that the robot face shows if the bull opens his mouth too much which kind of sucks. There is also that due to a bit of an unorthodox ankle joint, Bovis needs to have his feet flat on the ground to hold his pose. However this is easily doable once you become aware of it as the ankles have awesome range of motion. This allows for Bovis to hold several poses (including the ones with his backpack) as long as both feet are flat on the ground surface. It is also possible to balance the weight on the movable 'toes' as long as it's also flat on the ground.

If you are a Predaking fan, you certainly want this toy. He is the size of a BW ultra and well worth it. Even the 'Totem' leg mode is impressive. I can't wait for the release of the next one!

Bovis sure feels nice and solid like Hexatron, his beefy aesthetic is quite nice too, the beast mode looks a bit like the a Zoid, however I will say the original G1 toy has a more accurate bovine look that this guy, but the poseability makes up for it.

Razorclaw is a really solid figure but after Tantrum and Headstrong he feels below par.

Overall, all 3 modes look great but the few problems i had were
- i hate the feet in robot mode, they just don't pose well and seem counter intuitive.
- the beast hind legs tuck away badly
-does not come with arm cannon. i think peaugh said it was being packed with rampage.

Not yet. Only the UT one is finished. The TFC and MC ones are still to be done. At the current rate, TFC will be done next with their's and MC will be done late this year (Sept 2014 are estimates) so no pics of all three till then.

I've put my money happily on MC. They do seem to be the best in terms of engineering, playability and aesthetic.

They're different homages to the different uses of the original G1 Sixshot. Greatshot is the (spoiler alert) Transformers Victory incarnation of Sixshot. Shadow Maru is a character that uses the Sixshot-mould in the "Brave" line of transforming Japanese robots (not associated with Transformers) which went on after the 90's run of Japanese Transformers anime.

No confirmed box set. In fact my opinion is that it won't happen.

The only issues so far that I'm aware of are the right(?) elbows on Fortis and Bovis. But all you have to do, as soon as you take them out of the box and before moving the joint, is pop the offending arm off at the bicep swivel and rotate 180 degrees and problem solved.

Of course, even that is kind of irrelevant because MMC are supplying replacement arms with the remaining members.

I highly recommend them. But I only have Fortis and Bovis so far. Razorclaw (can't remember his 3P name) is sitting in my POL.

Yeah, thanks Trent. That's what I recalled hearing, they included fixes in later releases. Which is rather extortionate in a way. What happens if the last release has a problem? Would we need to buy another release to fix it?

Still very tempted though. I'm looking at ordering through TFI Downunder as they seem to have good prices.

Got him yesterday and damn is he ever smexy!!

Love the black and shiny black accents. The yellow is nice as well as the 2 different helmets it comes with.

Right now he is standing in robot mode with the wolf head. Reminds me a lot of Captain Power for some reason.

He is huge and awesome!

He's an optional replacement arm for Talon/not-Divebomb, if you want a Rex with more symmetrical look. Talon can be attached to Rex's back if Felisabre is used as an arm.

with the hips, as far as i can tell - nope. i thought Razorclaw was pretty poorly designed. the 3 levels for hip/leg is stupid. and i would have prefered just 1 and reinforced to support the weight. also in gestalt mode, he cant bend very far foward at the ankle which is so disappointing.

I've seen some repro labels for feral Rex to make it more g1 looking. They look the part. This might help with the lack in paint app issue.

lol i was referring to the lion head in the middle chest .... it doesn't turn out good in photos ....it looks dull but it a candy colour with a metallic silver under base so it really shinny in sunlight .... was trying a different combination of silver and chrome for the under coat with lacquer or acrylic transparent and candy colour .

He's an optional replacement for Talon if you want a more symmetrical looking Rex.

It's a homage to the Pretender Beast Catilla, who - yes - can replace Divebomb to make the gestalt toy more symmetrical, and comes with some minor accessories to 'improve' the other toys.

If you want Rex's wings you will need Talon. I gather that he will sit on Feral Rex's back if you use R-07 Felisaber as a limb. Divebomb/Talon was one of the original Predacons, so I see him as more important.

My Leo Dux's legs are quite strong. No issues at all. Talon and Tigris were perfect. I think my only gripes would be my Feral Rex's combined mode head's antennae seem to curve very slightly inwards; and trying to peg Fortis' animal back legs for combined mode is a major pain in the arse.

Got him yesterday. He is really awesome. So glad I went with this version.
There was a lot of information that I had to find out about with all these extra parts that came with it.
I want to do a few things to him like sticker paint and whatnot but ill do that later.

Just curious guys, what iteration of not-Predaking is everyone basing their feral rex's arm formation on? I seem to be the only one having talon as the right arm with cannon mounted on him and Tigris as the left arm which is g1 cartoon accurate? Is it switched around in comics or something?

It's a replacement piece rear for the rear hips on Bovis. There was an issue where some figures had a crack due to thin plastic and an over-tight screw. Needless to say, many 'butt crack' jokes were made. :)

Great to see this, glad I was so so hesitant on DX9 Invisible, as rhe head on invisible looked a little too chug for me, and a bit of holes in the limbs was making me 50/50 on buying/not. But if RK hadnt sold out first wave of combiner wars deluxes then invisible would be (regretfully) on the way already. (Still hoping for official MP).

For me, I'm sold already. Less classics than Invisible, but the very top of the thighs being so visible (ie. Can see the whole ball joint thing) not a fan, if the front skirt things a bit longer maybe, but I'm not too picky, just feels MP'y enough for me.

Also prototype picks of their reformatted Comptus up on tfw, looks damn tasty. The chest and mid section look nice, and the end of the tracks lining up with the knee looks sweet. Maybe i should pick up cynicus now...

Will keep an eye out on this, but those big hip ball joints does look very revoltech, so i hope they do a good job in hiding it if this isnt the final mold.. Mirage being one of my favourite G1 toys, I wouldnt mind having this to add to the Mirage collection.

I am not sure what it is but the UT version does seem a bit out of place on my MP shelf, I wonder how this would stack up.

Maybe it's just my this far always good experience with MMC, but this design just speaks to me, I think I may get it, even though Mirage is one character that even my pessimistic self thinks Taktom will release in MP from one day.

I think the blue could go a touuuuch darker, but i won't have a problem if it stays the same, cause it does look great! Both toys look fantastic. I held off Invisble to see more of this, but now... Well I don't think anyone would be disappointed with either! Invisible would still fit well with MPs despite it's similarity to classics Mirage, and it's hard to imagine how Takara Tomy could do a better toon styled toy than Sphinx.

The only problem i have with anything related to these two is the USD-AUD :( !

I actually think the smiling face looks better. If you look at Mirage in the cartoon, he fairly prominent angle lines running down his face from his eyes. Without them, the face looks to round. Also the helmet is a little round. It needs to flare out _just a little bit_ more at the bottom.

Oh and the fact they have "ell" instead of "elf" bugs me no end.

Of course I'm nitpicking. But given I expect this to be on Takara's radar in the next 2 years and I think TT will do a better job, this would need to be pretty close to perfect for me to buy it. Or include a toy accurate head. Then I'd probably be in.

Digressing here. I really liked the Tetrajet idea, and it's still a representation that no other third party company has tackled (or deemed profitable enough a niche to tackle). Impossible Toys should have gone with a modernised design (either Classics scale or MP scale) for their robot modes instead of the G1 look. End digression.

I'm pretty happy with my DX9 Invisible and this does nothing to change my mind. I think Invisible's proportions are better.

MMC Spartan!

A superb toy all round and an excellent interpretation of the IDW take on the character. It could also be said that it is also a faithful modernization of the original Marvel UK character model.

The only real difficulty with this toy is the crapola MMC instructions which make the transforming process much more complex than it is as they can be misguiding. Once you understand what is required, he is very easy to transform with the trickiest bit being the upper thigh swivels.

I have to admit I'm not generally a big fan of third party toys. I feel like they always tend to over-engineer the figures to justify the premium they charge. I'd only bought about 4 or 5 third party figures before I got Spartan, and all of the were small toys like Toyworld Bee and the Igear mini-bots. But soon as I discovered Mastermind Creations were going to do an Impactor based on the LSotW design, AND with a Metal Slug inspired tank mode, I knew I had to get him. And he is just fantastic!

TANK MODE:
I've always loved double homages, like Animated Huffer and Pipes. I think it's really ingenious of MMC to incorporate the Metal Slug aesthetics into the tank mode design. I grew up a huge Metal Slug fan and still remember the days playing the first two games on the arcade machines. The unique aesthetics were part of the draw for me, and MMC did a great job capturing the essence of it. From the extra-heavy-duty-looking treads, and the curved tread guards to the hydraulic cylinders connecting the body and turret. And because the designer also managed to snuck in some curved surfaces on the turret (the upper body in robot mode), it doesn't feel like you have curvatures colliding with the hard-edges which are necessary for robot mode. But I can understand that some might not like the idea of a tough, bruiser type character turning into a chibified tank.

The plows add just the right amount of hard edges to the tank mode.

There's two 5mm peg holes on top of the turret (one is for the shoulder canon in robot mode). There's also one set of dual barreled cannons on either side. Because they extend from the tip of the robot mode feet, you can use the hinges on the toes to pose them a little bit. These were not present in the earlier prototype and CAD drawings, but I like that bit of extra armament on my Cybertronian tank.

The hydraulic cylinders limit the turret rotation to about 15 degrees each side, but they do look good. I generally like to leave them unattached, which frees up the turret to a full 360 degree rotation. The main turret canon is hinged at the base which gives about 30 degrees of tilt upwards in tank mode.

Because of how the legs transform into the sides of the tank, there is a bit of gap at the back, but it doesn't bother me at all.

TRANSFORMATION:
Transformation to robot mode is involved, but not frustrating. There's a couple of tricky bits you need to be extra careful of, especially how the thighs transform. The upper thigh piece is a separate piece that rotates independently of the thigh in relation to the hip joint. You need to rotate that to a specific position in order for the thigh to be able to swivel all the way forward and for the leg to collapse. The instruction booklet is not very clear but I find this video instructionvideo instruction manual (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uJaBiIn8HY) to be quite helpful.

After a couples of times transforming back and forth you shouldn't have any problem and I'm now quite enjoying it.

The robot is fantastic. It's like he jumped right out of a page of LSotW. The plastic is very sturdy and nice to handle. The muted colors look great in person and imo far better than what the earlier renders looked like with the bright gold and over-saturated purple.

In robot mode there's more paint apps exposed, mainly in the chest and abdomen. These are cleanly applied without issues. Oh and the little yellow plug on his right arm is for plugging the arms together in tank mode. They stay just find without it so if you don't like parts forming you can just throw it away. I generally leaves it there in robot mode.

Spartan has pretty every articulation on a modern transformer toy, with his knees being only able to bend about 90 degrees my only small gripe. The lower elbow joint on mine is initially quite stiff and when I tried to bend it the plow pieces would pop off, as they're only friction held in place and not glued on. After some play time this joint has loosened up and the plows now stay in place during posing and transformation.

He is a good Voyager size and fits the CHUG aesthetics perfectly. Also there's a screw hole on the elbow that takes 5mm pegs, so you can put some extra weaponry on Spartan's forearms and make him look even more bada$$.

He also comes with a right hand and the drill from when he was best pal with Megs. (which I forgot to take photos of...) His hand is also compatible with Prime FE Bulkhead's wrecking ball so you have a few options as to how you wanna armor him up.

VERDICT:
I've handled MMC products before but this is my first actual purchase. I like how their plastic feels and the engineering of this figure a lot. I'm also planning to pick up their Not-Turmoil as well. And now I'm really looking forward to their other IDW inspired releases.

Yeah Metal Slug aesthetic is uite similar to TFA. What's also amazing to me is that the comic design of Impactor has mostly hard edges and MMC managed to sneak the curves that made the alt mode work, without compromising the robot mode too much.
