Since we have a lot of releases incoming from Mastermind Creations, let's have a dedicated thread :)

It seems that their Hearts of Steel Seekers are closer to release:

And a Lucky Draw 'Shackwave' is also in the works:

Hexatron also looks pretty final but they did say that he won't be released until next year:

AND don't forget they teased a Not-Predaking at TFCon!:eek::cool:

But yeah those seekers look pretty cool. Looks like they are shaping up to be one of the top 3P companies.

Sigh!

Nah I'm cool with the wait. Gives the wallet time to breath!!

I hear you, Mastermind Creations does some nice work, but with so many pricey third party items around, I haven't bitten the bullet when it comes to collecting the Hearts of Steel themed line.

Damn tempting though.

There's just too many great combiners coming out from 3rd parties. I can't say no to a Predaking if it looks half as good as their other toys! And that damn superion.. and menasor. It's all too much for me to comprehend. They are all just too good to pass up.

Myself & Kal_El discussed these guys at length on the latest episode of the "Shooting The Sh#t: Toy Podcast (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?t=14097)" - Indeed I am looking forward to the 'Ferocicons' something fierce, I'm also somewhat tempted on the Not-Skywarp version of Mastermind Creation's HoS styled Seekers & if I can find the funds, definitely a Cyclops is in order along with that Terminus Hexatron! :D

While I expecting these to be good, I'm still waiting to see what Mastermind Creations style is like with classics style character.

Sure I have seen Kup's Knight Morpher and pictures of Shockwave, however both these designs has a very angular and chunky retro style. So curious to see how they do with a more modern looking character.

Early shots of Hexatron look good, It seems like a modern version of the old toy, rather than the companies personal spin on the character that we might get from FP, PE, etc. I wonder if the companies personal flavor will come through in the end product.

Given the long gestation of Hexatron (it rivals Presser and Assaulter) I don't expect to see the Not-Predicons till 2014. I do wish they would find a way to minimize Predakings unusual proportions. Being made up of 5 robots the same size has always made him look a bit odd in mind (even if he is big). I'd like to see a creative company come up with a way to minimize his tiny torso syndrome.

Trent
16th August 2012, 08:34 PM
I too am keen on Hexatron due to the official reissues price. I hope it is decently articulated and fits in with my growing classics line.

It shouldn't be that hard. The leg robots should provide the thigh and the arm robots should contribute a fair amount of shoulder.

I think what you're seeing there though dude is the price for that limited release version of the mold, it's quite possible that hte other 3 versions could be up to $20 less IMO or at least that's what I hope. :o:D

My bad! I skim read that article, went straight for the pics and assumed it was the prototype. That amount doesn't feel right for an uncoloured toy, but it has a very HOS aesthetic to it and feels very fitting.

It's all good dude, it's an easy thing to do and hell I've been guilty of it on more than one occasion. :p
Yeah, it does seem a little 'steep' doesn't it? - Especially as it is basically a minimally painted 'Post-Prototype' version, but I suppose there is that whole 'exclusivity' & 'first to own' bragging rights thing about it.:D

kup
17th August 2012, 08:02 PM
I think the idea of a 'prototype' exclusive may have come around due to some people saying stuff like 'the prototype looked better' after the final release is announced. However this mostly applies to official toys.

I was actually thinking the same thing, I'm a bit disappointed that in the early CG renders they seem to have gone for a bog standard Razorclaw doing all the heavy lifting approach, but this could change.

Courtesy of TFW2005 (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/sponsor-news-19/tfsource-knight-morpher-pre-orders-175755/), TFsource (http://tfsource.com/) has just posted up Pre-Orders for the Knight-Morpher Aircraft:

KM-05: Screacher (http://tfsource.com/products/view/product_id/5133/)
KM-06: Stormer (http://tfsource.com/products/view/product_id/5134/)
KM-07: Warper (http://tfsource.com/products/view/product_id/5135/)

Hopefully this'll mean that other stores, such as RobotKingdom (http://www.robotkingdom.com/services/eshop/main.php) & BBTS (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/default.aspx), will start following suit.:cool:

I find that price point to be quite reasonable.

Seems like its better value for money than TFC's asking prices so far. Looks like we're on track for Terminus Hexatron and the Ferocicons to be a bit more budget-friendly :)

Lord_Zed
22nd August 2012, 07:25 PM
I don't know if the word budget-friendly exists in 3rd party land, but yeah it's about the price you'd expect for a deluxe/voyager size 3rd part toy.

So far I have resisted this line, but they do look nice I must admit and they are a bit cheaper than Cyclops.

kup

TFsource is also likely to have a higher price than other online stores like RK.

kurdt_the_goat

RK has them listed for 84.90
Screecher (http://robotkingdom.com/services/eshop/main.php?action=details&CatType=&II=TFMMC05&lang=us&CatID=) Stormer (http://robotkingdom.com/services/eshop/main.php?action=details&CatType=&II=TFMMC06&lang=us&CatID=) Warper (http://robotkingdom.com/services/eshop/main.php?action=details&CatType=&II=TFMMC07&lang=us&CatID=)

It's so much smaller than Cyclops... and while the robot is an awesome design, the alt mode looks pretty average. Coupled with price that's put me off :(

That last Screecher RK pic does look like his engineering in plane mode is lacking. The robot mode is pretty awesome but the poor vehicle mode is a factor.

He looks like the Zoids Dibison or Cannon Fort, the new spin on things and articulated looking robot really brings something to the table compared to the rather simplistic Divebomb the other company has shown. The characterful face is the icing on the cake. Looks like it's the same sculptor who designed Screecher. Judging from what I have seen from Kup's Screecher that guy has a good eye for detail and little touches.

So yeah this puts Mastermind up, over the other company for me. Well played Mastermind I wonder who will make the next move.

I agree. After the excellent work they did with Cyclops and Screecher, I'm surprised this robot mode, aside from the gun/wings, looks unlike either of the IDW drawings (I prefer Guido Guidi's (http://www.seibertron.com/images/toys/uploads/1348545804_Transformers_RobotsInDisguise_Annual201 2-Preview3.png) :)) -- and that's ultimately what we're paying for.

CG pics of this guy have been kicking around for a while I think, so it may in fact pre-date some of their more recent designs.

So far I'm not a huge fan either, mostly because his torso seems a bit too bulky, and his legs a bit too thin.

I think it's been re-purposed into Nova. I read somewhere that it was originally intended to be Prima, hence why the wings have been added on recently.

Not sure why they moved Divebomb ahead, but this is definitely the first release of the Ferocicons/Feral Cons.

Didn't see this before, but TFSource has the exact same promotion as BBTS: http://tfsource.com/products/view/product_id/6240/

The 3rd parties seem to be more 'old school' clever in their marketing. The offer is to suck you in a set of 5 expensive toys ;)

I have it on good authority that the end-resulting MMC Predaking will be extremely comparable to that of TFC's Hercules, with the intention of scaling to the established Fansproject/Maketoys gestalts. ;)
(The reasoning being that Predaking was & is the largest combiner of the lot and should reflect that fact :))

Monstructor fictionally has always been depicted as large despite the 'Micromasteresque' nature of the toys. However I don't recall any appearance with other combiners so his scale is unknown.

Well in the toys and toon anyway.

I don't mind either way how big he is as let's not forget the Marvel comic depicted him as pretty standard size (or smaller) for a combiner, the UK comic even went as far as to award Devestator the title of tallest combiner. So it's all variable.

The size of Gestalts has always interested me. Example, if the Predacons are proper animal size, then surely Predaking would be the smallest combiner? Superion would be the biggest (5 jets). the only real unknown sizes would be the Terrorcons and Monstructor. Maybe the Seacons as well?

Thats of course ignoring mass shifting...:p

I know that fictional is variable but to me, G1 Predaking has always been the largest combiner due to the size of the toy.

Thats of course ignoring mass shifting...:pYou have to ignore quite a bit for the 'realism' theory to work re. G1 combiner sizes. Defensor has a patrol car and a patrol bike as legs of roughly equal size, and arms made from a helicopter and an ambulance which are both also of equal size. Bruticus has tank and jeep legs the same size, and helicopter and space shuttle arms the same size. And they're all roughly the same size as each other.

AFAIK the Predacons are usually depicted as Transformer-scaled animals, kind of like the Dinobots are way larger than their real-life equivalent counterparts were.

I guess that makes Superion, Menasor and Devestator the most realisitc combiners. :D

AFAIK the Predacons are usually depicted as Transformer-scaled animals, kind of like the Dinobots are way larger than their real-life equivalent counterparts were.

Just to add to the confusion they are not exceptionally large robots (Razorclaw and co were depicted as the same size as Brawl and the other combiners) yet they turn into a larger combined robot in the toon.

But then I guess the rules of Transformer size are that a Transformer can be any size they want to be if the story demands it. ;)

Personally I don't see any reason Predaking needs to be the biggest with these new toys, as long as he is a size that looks good with some of his comrades that will be enough.

Given how volatile scale is in Transformers, I think it really comes down to individual preference. To me Predaking should be bigger due to the 'Feral' animal theme which is also influenced by the G1 toy size.

http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/attachments/transformers-3rd-party-discussion/27342603d1359232472-mmc-feral-rex-mega-thread-combine.jpg

Some facts to clarify things and help avoid confusion. Please add to first post. Thanks.

Gestalt is 32cm tall from feet to head, excluding shoulders, backpack cannons etc...

All 5 figures will all be discounted 15%-20% for pre-orders

Pricing is based on the pack–in content and design of the figures: e.g. the leg members will have more parts, and Razorclaw is bigger.

Updated COMBINED mode picture incoming, hopefully this evening.

Also, sixth member is a figure...not sixth accessory. Full figure. New member, established character joins the team, with fiction to explain. Not needed for combined mode if you don't want to, but very cool.

This render is the traditional five figure combination, that's why you should recognise all the members. Thanks.

That makes MMC's Predaking taller than Giant.

Does RK have particularly aggro supply chain management people or what? With planned releases coming and the proven steady increase of 3P stuff cutting into the collector market, peeving off the bigger players cannot in any way appear to be a good business decision to me. I've certainly turned all my purchases towards BBTS as most of those made in last 6 months has been 3P stuff (however am still awaiting for the second release of Munitioner/Explorer before shipping my first loot , still awaiting redemption from one scarring experience with my Unreleased Target Exclusive Gunbarrel/Reverb/Backtrack where Reverb was found to be lost from my loot at the time I decided to ship), with very few official stuff riding on combined shipping.

I hope MMC realise how important (to me at least) the final colour choice for their Predacons is. I'm not buying in to Superion partly due to his overly vibrant colour scheme, and chose Giant over Herc partly based on the more accurate shade of green and purple. Colour provides a very strong nostalgic link to the original toys and does a lot of the work selling the homage.

2013 has proven to be a pretty tough year for us in the MMC Team with the sudden loss of one of our most important resellers and the rise of two formidable contenders for the same character in the Feral Rex Project.

We deeply regret that we have to announce the termination of the project due to the poor feedback on what we have released so far and the results from the preorders that we've put up over that past few months are.. well... disappointing.

We would still like to thank a couple of special members from the TFW2005 community, namely Transbot90210, hardreturn, exomega255, David Hingtgen, Transformed, Jigga, SCPrime, Trailbreaker77, daimchoc, eriku, Jehsee, Torque, RRavage, jonplumlee, Darcemeus, TENIME_art and many others more [like Astronut ;) ] for their support, contributions, digibashes, suggestions and erm.... constructive criticisms towards our designs, products and especially for this particular project.

It had been a fun ride and it was a really sad decision that we had to make to end this, but here's some good news for all those who have already preordered either Talon or Bovis from our resellers!
We are please to announce the KNIGHT MORPHER REX COMMANDER as a replacement figure and it will be ready to ship very very soon!!

A note to those who have ordered both Talon and Bovis. You lucky guys will be getting TWO Rex Commanders!!! (or FOUR if you have ordered two sets of the original Rex members!!!) Happy days!

I had that silhouette mentally pinned as not-Abominus from all the teasers from last year. I'm not a fan of TFC's stuff so don't follow news about them but from what I gathered the general consensus is that Ares is Cybertronian mode Predaking.

Take from that what you will. Personally I think it's a pretty dumb move business-wise. We already have 2 Predakings coming out, one is a classics aesthetic, the other an articulated G1. Between these 2 99.9% of the market is covered. With these options who is going to fork out ~$500 for a Cybertron-TFC style Predaking?

I actually thought she was a complete prank, but my lord, that first pic completely wins me over. Perfect timing too, I've been edging on caving in and buying a Delicate Warrior - second release without the heel issues. Love how this looks feminine yet strong enough to stand/pose properly.

Glad they didn't go with that emasculated grin (http://www.comicvine.com/images/1300-2475040) she gets when she goes on her killing spree

I think it's good too but I don't like the hollow shoulder kibble and back kibble that extends too low.

Now I've had a closer look at them, I do spot some niggling flaws.

That back kibble: Wish the wings looked more like the pods of Perfect Effect's RC. The tail skirts do have some hinge joints but I'm doubting that it can fold up.
Voids in the waist: BIG gaps around the ball joints. Does she have a hollow arse?
Torso doesn't have a back: It's just the front half, a gap and then the back kibble.

kup
6th April 2013, 11:32 PM
Let's keep in mind that this is not even a pre-production prototype as they are yet to decide if they wish to go ahead or not from last I heard. It is very possible that the hanging and hollow kibble will be fixed once it goes into the next phase.

Despite the flaws there is much positive response so it is likely they will go ahead.

I'd love a giftset with brilliant box art from MMC, but that is not enough for me to risk the chance of not getting them. It's just a different case to as when MakeToys was releasing G2 Yellow Giant ahead of Green Giant - everyone knew a Green repaint had to be on its way, and the box art was just the bonus.

Also, demand for third-party not-Predakings may be further diluted from UT's release, so this may affect MMC's decision on releasing a second run.

Just referring to the rate of diffusion (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diffusion_(business)). If there was only one product released to market, the only choices for consumers would be to buy now (early adopters), or wait for more information and buy later (late majority and beyond). i.e. The original market reaction to Steel Core was mixed, but after the reviews came out, enough fans jumped on board to push prices to $250-300 on evilBay :)

In regards to third party not-Devastators, how many fans are out there that can afford both TFC's and Maketoys's releases? Whilst the better looking product is debatable, a person that's pretty set on obtaining one mould will have to make a choice between (at least) 4 options:
1. Buying product A now
2. Buying product A later
3. Buying product B now
4. Buying product B later

NB: Just my limited understanding of first year marketing, but feel free to debate!

The one on the left, by Mastermind Creations, is available on BBTS (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/search.aspx?search=mastermind). Just realised that they have raised the prices on both Talon and Bovis - both increased by $15ea to their full RRP's. As there are two competing companies producing the same character, both had been making price cuts for early pre-order-ers. If you keep an eye on this thread or Seibertron/TFormers, you might find the pre-orders for the next 3 at a special discounted rate too.

But in all seriousness this is becoming a bit of an issue. there is simply TOO MANY TF related products on the horizon. You might want to factor in the additional $75-95 plus shipping (base cost under the assumption that they decide to do another discount) for the optional 6th member of the group, although it just appears to be a remould of Tigris with guns. If it is a remould, then at best it will be a stand in for one of the other arm-figures. Not sure how I feel about a really expensive bench warmer (my weaker instincts just say BUY IT ).

What is upsetting you the most about the colour scheme?

I think the orange could be more vibrant, but perhaps the final in-hand product will look different.

It's from the TFW2005 Feralcons thread, from one of the designers who's been remarkably informative/engaged. I usually avoid the TFW forums like the plague but I'm really looking forward to these guys so I've been following it pretty closely.

I'd much rather all-red legs myself, but it does still sorta work with the red head and black horns. Apparently the Boss at MMC feels it looks OK and doesn't want the delay it'd take to correct the mold mistake.

I agree, it looks fine and not worth the delay. I can understand a delay if the head or something more character impacting had been color changed but since it's just one small part of the leg that can arguably be seen as an improvement based on some opinions, then it's not worth it.

To me Bovis looks fine. Headstrong's (or whoever he is) yellow seems a bit faded in those pics, however I prefer his mold to the smaller one.

Seeing as how we are talking about delayed Buffalo's I was reminded of this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9EBhaULToU).

I'm with Homer on this one.

the size difference and pricing compared to Unique Toys really sets MMC's version as the one to get.

peaugh mentions that the colours will be a deeper/saturated on the final product as the ones he reviewed were the 1st coloured test shots.

at the moment im ordering through BBTS as they have a pile of loot option and so shipping will be comparable to RK if you have a large order. You can also try TFSource as they advertise cheaper international postage but i haven't used them since that change.

but definitely try to get the early bird prices as that knocks off $15 off each figure.

as a reminder, RK are no longer getting any new stuff from Fansproject, Mastermind Creations (and probably others.)

Sorry for the slow reply. Everything sort of blends together into this big mess of flat colour. I realise they were following the G1 colour schemes, but it would have been nice to see them pick out more detail. Bovis came out a lot better than Fortis, and I think it's all down to the extra grey value which really helps break him up. For the amount of sculpted detail, the paint apps just don't hold up.

I'm with you on that one. Clear plastic always puts me off to some degree.

I also find the silver grips on his legs a little strange given that they fold up to become the side of the gun. Not a big fan of the grey plastic they're using either, and it looks like he's got a whole ton of kibble on his back. This is definitely one I'd have to wait for reviews of before picking up.

I think it's just an homage to the G1 toy which had the silver plates on the sides of the feet. They might look a bit out of place given the changes to the transformation scheme but you can bet that if they'd been omitted, everyone would be crying for 'more G1'. ;)

I'm not really keen on the look of MMC's newest figures, the proportions seem a bit off and they look... chunky?

The first two modes look good enough (especially that ab-crunch in robot mode). If there was a third mode it would just be a nice bonus :)

Had a good play with Hexatron. Amazing toy, MMC certainly have outdone themselves. The toy is very solid and heavy despite being made of plastic, although this plastic is durable and of very high quality.

The alt modes are very G1 inspired but they have their own small surprises and engineering innovations such as the arm panel twisting for Tank mode. Instructions are also really well done and easy to follow with all modes starting from an 'initialization mode'

You like Sixshot - You certainly want Hexatron. Higher quality than any modern MP, just as tall (taller in some cases) and fits really well in either your Classics or MP shelf.

Here are some shots of everyone's favorite Phase Sixer:
