Hi guys,
I started drawing Transformers and really enjoy it. Here is my Flickr, where you can check out all my photos and collection pics.:

Quite amateurish and as it says in the descriptions, a lot of the shading and rendering is cut out by light and the conditions.
Hope you can appreciate them. Comment below!
:D

My latest art piece as of 7/02/13, which depicts the defence of the ark befor launch in Fall of Cybertron.

These ones are not scanned but photographed, so quality may be a bit. grainy, but they are much more vibrant and cartoony in person, IMO.:D:cool:

Thanks to all that have supported me and my work and I will continue to make more. :D:cool:;)

At least you can tell who they are. Better than my efforts... :(

Hey, I actually think these are really quite charming! I like them a lot for some reason, reminds me of the 80s transformers picture books a bit. The Soundwave one is my favourite.
Don't worry about them being "amateurish" either, if you just keep drawing every day you're bound to get better.

(ps you should totally draw Jazz ;))

Nice drawings Bidoofdude :) I too have also been known to dabble in a bit of amateurish art from time to time.

The last time I drew transformers was in primary school. I just copied the box art. All in pencil - no colour. Since it's just copies and nothing original, just considered it ordinary.
It's not traced though. Can't draw people just robots. :)

I go with a weird method. I do pencil (greylead) outlines and details then put th first basic layer of colour on, then the second layer and finally, I add the black outline (again in pencil). Thanks for all the positive feedback. Sorry again about the bad photo quality and lighting.

Your art is fine, I personally find it really hard to put any depth in my drawings. and like it's been said above, it's still clear which chracter you have drawn.

btw, I love the wampa lining up for an ice cream, classic!!:D

You should preserve these early drawings of yours, so that you will see the progress you will make, Just keep on drawing and pretty soon, amateurish will develop into professional. Everybody starts on something and these are decent drawings, as everyone said - you can tell who it is. Keep at it :)

Aww cute as hell. I love the simple stuff. You can tell you draw cause you love it, not cause you have to. If only I could go back to that, maybe one day. Reminds me of some of my ancient stuff. :)

They're not that bad at all Bidoof, this one (http://www.flickr.com/photos/68801062@N05/7928993612/) is certainly the most superior effort however. ;):D

You got a clear, kids-y style that I would be happy to keep. I think it looks unique and polished -like you are not trying to copy a style of any famous TF artists because this is your style right here. If you can draw and fiddle with the layout of memorable TF scenes and add (or alter) the dialogue, AND do all this just right.. with your current style, I honestly think your style could sell t-shirts.

But like others have said, if this style aint for you and you want to get "better" you will, just keep practising. I'd recommend looking at big images of b/w lineart from famous artists and looking closely at them for some tricks about posing, what to detail and adding depth.

Whatever you choose thanks for sharing!

New drawings of Snarl and Sludge. (G1) Also took pics of Soundwave and Shockwave in better conditions. Enjoy. I can hopefully get the rest of the Dinobots in alt mode as I suck at the robot modes. Please leave criticism as I am quite open for suggestions. (other than Jazz) I might do some FOC Charactrs if the chance comes around.

art is art - whether it looks like the art from hasbro or takara or bidoofdude.
keep going... You'll notice this particularly if you read X-Men comics (same continuity drawn by different artists in their own way).

if it's drawn your way - then it's art.
my favourite of your work is snarl drawing and the christmas on endor lego set.

I'd like to see more...

ps: you wouldnt happen to have a devastator would you :p

Currently working on Thrust. Should be up when I'm back in Melbourne. :D
BTW, any tips on getting a very clean line? Most of my lines seem to be kind of thick and messy sometimes. I could maybe try a fineliner. Or a fine tip greylead. :D

I likes the Megs and the Waves. They get my vote! :D

Also I think you answered your own question about getting cleaner lines. I usually do a preliminary sketch with a light grey lead (say 2H), then when I'm happy with it I'll go over it with a fine point marker or with a darker grey lead (HB or 2B). Always make sure your pencil points are sharp, and not thick or blunt, because it will make it ten times harder to come up with an accurate drawing.

If you want to scan your drawing to create the basis for a digital work, then a good black pen or marker is essential. Hope this helps.

Too right! - You're doing a great job Bidoof, have you thought about scanning them? :)

Bidoofdude

I tried and my computer is connected to it, but it won't recognise my computer when it asks for which one to scan to. I'll have another crack at it.

Goodo, try using the computer to initiate the scan - Should be a program that asks how you'd like to 'Acquire' the image. ;):)

Well one of the buttons on the printer says scan, so go figure. (no I'm not referencing KO sellers from Armageddon:p)

Yeah, but it's often easier to do it through the computer as it just limits/eliminates confusion in the long run. ;)

Love the little Megs in the background of your "defence of the ark before launch" pic. Is that Sunstorm who has been decapitated there in the foreground?

Yes, that is Sunstorm being deposed at the hands of Optimus or some other Autobot. :D:p

I must say Bidoof, that latest piece looks really good indeed & the image is SO much better since you've scanned it as opposed to photographing it - Well done mate. :)

Like the others have said BidoofDude, you're definitely improving.
One of the most difficult things to do IMHO, is a larger scene with more than one character and multiple other elements.
I love the smoke of anger above Megatrons head

Bidoofdude
13th February 2013, 01:08 PM
I never imagined that as anger, but you can take it that way if you want.
Anyway, thanks for the positive comments guys. I'm working on another soon. Looking good so far.;)

That's a harsh death for Sunstorm there hehehe:D keep em coming. Play with lines Bidoofdude. Thicker for outer outline of the figure and then thinner for the inner detailing lines. For shadowing effect - imagine where your light is coming from and keep that in mind when putting black color shadowing on the figure to give it that 3d depth effect. You can also create depth bnot just with shadows but making the main character colors go darker to denote its in the shade. Keep it up! :)
