1st anniversary of the Live Action Movie. (28 June)

Today one year ago, the movie that would change everything for Transformers fans and non-fans alike, officially began its general screening in Australian Movie Theatres.
It doesn't feel like it, but a whole year has passed since most of us here first saw the live action movie last June, and we are only a year away from the second one.
So any thoughts, one year on? Still see it as the best or worst thing for the Transformers brand, and has anyone watched it again recently (on TV obviously)?

I will try to watch it again this weekend, and comment on what I feel as a fan one year on, and wanted to see if anyone else will be watching it this weekend as well, to commemorate this day in Australian Transformers history. Because many years to come, fans will look back on it with semi-surrealistic nostalgia, like some of us do about the 1986 Movie.

Wow! It's been that long already? Time flies when you're having fun :)

But seriously, A year back it seemed as though a whole bunch of Non-TF People jumped on the TF Bandwagon. I bet most of those people sure had a fun ride while it lasted (You just know they were the ones buying up all the deluxe Concept Bumblebee's ;)) but eventually the ride slowed down & stopped, but we refused to get off the rollercoaster :D.

I was off sick from work the last few days and I watched it yesterday. First time I have watched it on my big new LCD tv and surround sound so I cranked it up and sat back reliving the feelings I felt on this day a year ago. Still gives me goosebumps with some of the sounds and scence. Like the noise when the stars roll over at the beginning in the clouds, the first time you hear Cullens voice, when Blackout transforms for the first time and when the autobots arrive and OP transforms. Ok it wasnt the movie I wanted but I still enjoy it. After reading all the news and seeing pics for the next movie I cant even wait for the teaser trailer. This time next year we get to do it all over again. I'll definetly be putting an application for leave in at work again!

I've probably watched it half a dozen times all up. Three times at the cinemas (only paid once though, unless you factor in the $700 to fly and stay in Sydney) and probably three times at home (maybe two, not sure)

Funny how last Monday, being it was the last day of my holidays, I felt like getting it out and watching it. (Opted for World Record Pizza instead) I'd completely forgotten the first anniversary, guess my sub-conscious was telling me something.

Did it do TF's good? Yeah I think so. While I absoloutely detest the heads of most of the toys, they brought a new look with them.

I think the one downside to the upsurge in popularity was highlighted by the poor distribution/scalpers which made some figures hard to find.

Now with the new fans, well hey, I gotta have someone to pick on. :cool:

Yeah hopefully the distribution of toys will be better next year. I remember walking into shops and there was nothing on the shelves thinking "man hasbro is losing some big dollars here because there was nothing on the shelves in the prime money making time".

$700 to see the movie! Damn, and I thought my $500 to see it in the Melbourne IMAX theatre was a record.
(bowing motion) We're not worthy, we're not worthy... :p

I just finished watching it today (they should have beanbags at the theatres - they are so much more comfortable to sit in), and some of the more emotional scenes that Scattorshot mentioned above still got to me. But after watching it 15-20 times already (12 of those in a theatre), it's like hearing a joke 15-20 times - it's a bit boring unless it is a really good joke, and even then, it is just the punchline that is good. I think this movie was really good (not excellent), but by now, only about half of it gets my undivided attention. The rest of the time, I start thinking about related things, or poor scripting and editting errors.

Admittedly, for a 2 hour 20 minute movie, it doesn't have extensive, boring dialogue scenes that other lengthy movies often suffer from. This was after all an entertainment movie, not an artsy movie - it didn't win any artsy awards, but rightly generated the box office earnings that guaranteed us another 2 movies. Which I can't wait for either. :)

I just hope they have an advance screening here again next year, because I want to see it with other local fans again - those of us going to botcon next year will probably miss the opening weekend, like we did in 2007.

Aaaaahh one year already!:eek: wow! hmmm memories, all my cousins which are all younger than me and their buddies and a GF, lined up in one straight line of seats in the middle of the theater..... from one end to the other, twelve popcorns to share, a couple of chip bags and pringle tubes and large,tall glass of coke. Nice, except for the part that my cousins keep asking me for who's who. But then, it's not annoying more amusing since of all the 20+ indvls relatives and friends I was seeing it with, I was considered the afficionado TF geek in the group. I can still remember all the cheers in the movie house ( and I thought screaming in moviehouses was frowned upon on western civilized world ) by all the fanboys and geeks in the crowd ( erm i just smiled alright - longest smile ever). Funny thing as well was that all them cousins wanted to hear my opinion on the movie, how was it for me, did I consider it good and all that. Neat. Well, 12 months to go then.....

Um, I still feel pretty much the same about it as I did when I first saw it... I had been waiting most of my life for this film, but it just wasn't the film I wanted! :( Maybe I had too many expectations. Still, I saw it 3 times at the cinemas and have watched it on DVD several times!

My major issue is that the script is really not very good! It's filled with many cheap jokes and pointless sub-plots. I remember having a few disagreements with people (some of them on this very board), when the film first came out, about "Maggie and her waste-of-time sub-plot"... but I stand by it!!! There's no pay-off - it goes NOWHERE!

The CGI is brilliant! The action is a little underwhelming. The Climax is anti-climactic! The music is fine! The direction is weird. The acting is alright.

If there's anything that being a James Cameron fan has taught me, it's that a good action/sci-fi story should have a heart (or at least a pulse)! That way it will be enduring! Here we are only 12 months out, and many people are saying the film is "okay" or "alright"... how many people say that about Aliens or The Terminator?

Overall, I'm really glad the film got made. I probably wouldn't have chosen the people who made it, but nevertheless it brings a tear to my eye to see so many kids beginning to LOVE Transformers the way I do! For that, I am eternally grateful to the film!

Ive only seen it twice out of the cinemas (only saw it three times, twice on the huge screen at Blacktown) and it has held up fairly well with repeated viewings.

However the excessive overuse of motion blurr has become very irritating, and friend of mine who love the film far more than I do have also commented that on the big plasma and LCD TV's the effects dont look as spectacular as they did in the cinema.
