View Full Version : Do you keep your Transformers room locked when you sleep?

For the purposes of this poll/thread, a "Transformers room" can be any room where you keep your Transformers collection - whether it be a dedicated collection room, bedroom, study etc. I must confess that, until now, I've always kept my Transformers room locked when I'm out of the house, but usually not when I'm at home, and that includes when I'm asleep.

If reading this thread has made you change your mind, please vote according to what you've been doing before then. So I've voted the second option, but from now on I'm gonna keep my TF room locked when I sleep.

Due to ongoing sleep problems my collection room is also my bedroom. It has no door but is at the top of the house.
Noone but me is allowed up there without my permission

I don't keep the door locked, their in my mini man cave, but stored in cupboards. I was actually thinking about buying locks for the cupboards the other day!

I'm "in between houses" at the moment ( living with sister inlaw to help save for a house ) so my collection is packed away neatly in a whole bunch of huge plastic tubs. :(

Oh how I can't wait to be able to display it all.....

I do plan on locking my collection room, my wife teases me and says that if i dont.... one day I'll come home to find our unborn daughter opening up all of my toys!

She also threatens to do that herself sometimes.... just to watch me squirm :p lol

No lock present nor required.

Why the need to lock the door at night Gok? Is it to keep the little one out?

Mine will be locked sometime next year once the new arrival starts to move around the house with grubby little hands :D

That thought did cross my mind. Gok doesn't want their civil war spreading to his bedroom.

Oh no, she's good with my toy room. She knows which Transformers she's allowed to touch (i.e. PlaySkool, Bot Shots & Happy Meal toys). She doesn't touch anything else, and if she ever does, she always asks for permission first. I can trust her to walk in and out of that room unsupervised... the worse she does is put her toys in there. Currently there's a strew of her Lego bits and plushies on the floor. :p

But we recently got burgled -- the only thing that was taken was my wife's handbag (which is a massive inconvenience for her cos now she has to replace all her cards, licence, mob phone etc.). But it happened in the middle of the night while we were at home and asleep! So yeah... kinda scared about some midnight thief touching my toys now. I've had Transformers stolen in a burglary before, but that was when I was out of the house. The thought of my toys being stolen while I'm asleep at home has me locking that room at night now.

+1. :) I've seen Tiby's collection room for myself IRL - never seen a more secure set up for a TF collection room! :D

1. Only if the thief is threatening you with lethal force
2. You sleep with your rifle? (I guess you're not that happy to see me :p).

Burgled!?! you seem to fall prey to such occurrences Gok...geez that's not right at all :(:(. Sorry to hear that Gok.

the 1 thing that scares me is not the burgled part but the fact that they taken your tf's and probably give them to their kids to play with and destroy not know how much time, money and love have gone into your collection.

And that time and love can NEVER EVER be replaced. As most of you already know, I was burgled back in 2005 and some of my original childhood G1 toys were stolen. I've got reissues of them, and one of them (1984 Optimus Prime) I've also replaced with an original G1... but NONE of them will ever replace what I truly lost. :( :( Whenever I look at my G1 84 Optimus Prime, I can _NEVER_ again look at it fondly and think, "We grew up together!" -- which is how I look at the rest of my G1 collection. *sigh*

Here's a photo of my original 1984 Optimus Prime toy (taken in 1998):

And here's a photo taken in July this year:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y227/goktimusprime/Transformers/Collection%202012/collection2012_1984a.jpg
The Optimus Prime in truck mode is an original G1 (the others are reissues). While it is an original G1, and actually in better condition than my original (my old one had worn chrome and snapped smoke stacks) -- it will never replace what I lost. Even with all the wear and tear on my old Optimus Prime, I loved that toy... and I can never love this 'new' G1 Optimus Prime the way I loved my old one. :( :( So I always lock my TF room when I'm not home -- because I was robbed when I was out of the house. But now we've been burgled when we were home, but fast asleep... and I don't want to run the risk of losing any more of my toys.

Very well disciplined little lady there bud, love it :)
Shit about the burgled bit though especially when you are at home, we have ramped up security at our place due to some recent oddball activity in our area. Some say paranoia, I say thouroughness

I don't have a room, i don't have a lock, i barely have any doors in my house.

I put my special guys in a box, stuffed in another box with the other tfs that arn't so special. They rarely see the light of day.

I took Sunstreaker out, the second time in what, 20 years! And is kinda nervous about him in the pony castle or up on the tv with BB. Since its not mine and the mold is like rare (in my lot). Its my brothers. It also joins Cyclonus in the lovely work of brick-sand sand dune play. I know all the adventures and battles lost and won with this Sunstreaker. You know, like how many times he preformed jet-judo by himself! I brought a Sunny off ebay for me, cause the responsibility of the other Sunny is just too many emotional moments. The ebay Sunny is in brighter and has stickers condition, but when i look at it, it feels like a stranger in my collection. Its weird. Like its kind of a clone come to take the 'original' Sunnys spot. I have no feeling towards it even though it has been well played with from its original owners. So Goki, i don't think you will ever love those replacements.
But you'll know that toy when you see it someone elses house or ebay. Spark connections! I have it too!

That's really sad Gok. I would be heartbroken if either my cybertron Optimus Prime (missing its ears) or dinobot war book was stolen. I would most likely freak out knowing my childhood toys were in someone else's hands. I love my newer transformers a lot, but they don't give off that same spark. I don't keep any locked up though very valuable ones in the future I might keep locked up in a secret place. :p I also get no spark off any of my other transformers toys. Like you said, I can't look at a replacement toy and say "I grew up with you". Here's one of Bidoofdude's old tales! (in his not-so old age:p)
Long ago, (like 4 years or so) like I today do with transformers, I scouted toy stores countless times looking for that one bakugan toy I so desperately wanted. Preyas. I searched high and low, in every shop I could find. Then one day, we walked into Big W in the Melbourne CBD. We rushed to the toy section. Then I stopped. There, lying on the peg was... Hydranoid.:( That's what my brother wanted. Then we looked behind that. Gorem. :( The one my other brother wanted. In fact, we seemed to find every toy but Preyas (I think I accidentally skipped over delta dragonoid :() Anyway, I was really disheartened by my brothers purchases. We gave up and walked into Safeway to get the groceries. The toy section that used to be awesome was empty these days. I dragged myself over there. I was really disheartened form before. I looked onto the peg. Preyas. Only one. Sitting there. I stared. Then I got my mum. I was so overjoyed. We bought it! I was soooo happy. :D
Months passed. I often took my bakugan to school and I always made sure I'd taken them all home with me. I brought home Preyas. That later afternoon, I went looking for it to play with my brothers. I couldn't find it. No-where to be seen. I looked high and low. We searched everywhere. Nothing. I spent nearly every day looking for it. Months went by. A year. 2 Years. I never found it. Never. My mum suggested I get another online (because it was now new vestroia)to replace it. I thought about it, but declined. I was still determined to find it. I thought that, that Preyas was special to me. I shouldn't get another. It wouldn't be the same. Another 2 years went by. I still look every day for this Preyas, effortlessly knowing I will never find it. Ever. :(
I have the weird feeling in my gut that someone took it from my case when I was on the bus. But maybe after 20 years has passed, I'll go through all my old broken toys and find that, lone, faded, special Preyas. That would be nice.
Sorry for the wall of text but I needed to tell you all this.

We need a 'Cry for transformers' thread.
A 'Sparkly Spark Lost Connections' thread.

Everyone has a story and though mine might not be missing in action yet, As i said before, that strange imposter next to 'my' Sunstreaker... hmmm.... there is nothing that can replace that original 'first time' love for that badly made bit of plastic that has shared your world.

The room my Transformers are in originally had no key either. I replaced the door handle with a key-locked door knob I bought from Bunnings. They're inexpensive and not too hard to install (if I can do it anyone can ;)).
