Im starting my next project today, i received a nice package today with buttons and joysticks to start building an Arcade Machine!
I'll be running Mame, Amiga and C64 emulators on it. Once completed the first game i'll be playing will be Transformers!

Seconded..... This looks pretty cool!
I've always wanted my own arcade machine, never thought of actually building one.
Good luck man.... :D

Yesterday i constructed the control panel (if thats what you want to call it). I did the programming of the software last night, my stripped down win XP machine boots straight into emulation! I managed to get the mame, amiga, ps1 & ps2 emulators to work, but no luck with the C64. This afternoon when i get a chance im gonna wire up the panel and try it out!
Im actually gonna cheat buy buying a pre-made outer box as i dont have the skills to build that from scratch, then just wire in the control panel, pc and monitor.
I will be cutting out either an autobot or decepticon symbol and the bottom of the machine and lighting it up either red or purple. Hard choice!

Keen to see how you go with this!
Where are you getting your parts from?
If you're looking for Japanese parts at all, i've bought several times from Akihabara shop (http://www.akihabarashop.jp/)

As someone who spent the better part of my youth inside dingy video game arcades feeding coin hungry machines, I'm also quite interested to see how this turns out. Best of luck rocman12 :)

I've actually sourced all the parts in australia, i got the buttons, joysticks and wiring harness from Melbourne and a guy in perth makes the shell.

The main reason for the test run with the control panel was to see where to place the buttons and joysticks, i think i've got them to close to each other, next weekend i'll reposition them, once i'm happy with them i'll order the outer case

Not making the cabinet, I haven't got the skills to fabricate one from scratch, plus it will never look as good as a purchased one.

X-Men (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-Men_(1992_video_game)) and NBA Jam (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nba_jam) might have something to say about that!

Should have stated that there are not that many good 4 players games out there to warrant a 4 player machine :)

Ha ha ha now you're in for it.
Ahem
Gauntlet.
Sunset Riders.
Simpsons (Prefer ninja turtles over this though).
Golden Axe2 (iirc, this was a 3 player).
Not sure that warrants the effort required, but 4 player Gauntlet (both old and new) was FRIKKIN COOL!

Let me enlighten you a bit :D
Golden Axe 2 (http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=7968)
Gauntlet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gauntlet_(1985_video_game)), there is a more recent version as well. Still four player and had a conversion on the Dreamcast.
and my personal favourite, Sunset riders! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5JtjpH9hbI) Best explained with a video.
Damn I loved that game, and I still do!

looks great, the insignia are excellent. I notice it's a lot more streamlined than a traditional arcade machine, and your button placement is practicall ergonomic. definitely an improvement on the older designs.

That's the benefit of a custom made cabinet, I got to design the layout, best thing I did was put the trackball on, comes in so handy when your in windows or emulating the amiga

OMG that is amazing! Very sleek, and those autobot and deception light up logos really make it. Also that C64 tf game really takes me back... Love it. Now let the unlimited fun and nostalgia begin! :D

@ rocman12
What sort of board/s (circuit boards) are you using for the joysticks? The reason I asked is I have a project that I have been working on for a while now and I have had some success using the insides of pc game pads and soldering wires to the game pad boards and running them up to the joysticks/buttons on the arcade machine...
