View Full Version : ToysRUS (USA) now shipping internationally

I've only just discovered this, and believe it is a new policy change, but Toys R Us are now shipping internationally to Australia. The toys are at least half Australian retail (and often more), and even with shipping you can get your products cheaper than retail. What's more is that they have so much wider range, and new stock (for example, the Generations combaticons are listed, as well as the Asian Exclusive scouts and legions).
This also means they'll carry TRU exclusive products (example Masters of the Universe 2-packs), and ALL your favourite toy lines. I swear this is not an early april fools joke. Its going to be real hard to keep paying AU retail prices now for the 'rush' of an instore purchase.

Thanks reillyd...that's awesome news :) after my recent experience with my local TRU (no stock of certain MP's) I would gladly pay shipping over driving 30-40 mins nth or south of me on a whim I might get lucky

This is fantastic news all-round and the best way to lower local prices. Since the dollar is above US prices, you should be able to save 40-50% on buying local.
Dont be too surprised if the toys in Australia suddenly reduce in price around Christmas
Better for all....
Can you buy Lego on ToysRUS international :) that will be fun!

Has anyone been able to successfully place an order on the US TRU site yet?
Here's the scenarios I've been through:
Picked 5 Transformer items...clicked proceed to payment or whatever and was presented with a message about one of your items cant be shipped internationally...whatever, removed it and was able to proceed further with the other four. By the way the item was in stock that it wouldn't let me have, so yes I think (as another board member mentioned) they throw a dart at thier catalog to decide what can be sent or not :D
Next challenge
Asked to check out with paypal or express checkout...ok, sounds easy enough!? Nope...
Picked Paypal, it let me sign into paypal and choose my account etc....then I'm presented with an "opps! we weren't able to obtain your address details, don't worry you can complete this by clicking here". The fields on the next screen only allow for an american address to be entered in...dead end here :(
Ok then, lets try Express Checkout...presented with two subsections with fields (billing and shipping address) ,I can set the billing address to an aus address but cant set the shipping (US only)..wow send me the bill but not the toys :D another dead end grrr!!
So I then decided to sign up to the site and try again... some how I managed to skip the express checkout and was asked if I wanted to send all items to my billing address (entered in when I signed up). Clicked yes please :) but presented with a new error "Due to local ordinances, we are unable to complete your current order...blah blah blah" :(
I guessing they haven't ironed out the bugs for international buyers yet or the list of what we can buy is really restricted and the shopping cart isnt reflecting this correctly for items and isn't picked up until you try to pay.
Can any one post up if they have been successful and how they did it?

what annoys me with it is the fact that an item will say it ships here, then when you go to pay for it, the order gets rejected because one of the items now won't ship beyond the US

You won't be able to use PayPal payment as it is not compatible with international shipping. I had trouble changing the shipping location in Internet eXplorer, but found no problems with Safari. I was also unable to do it from my ipad, as it said it didnt support mobile devices.
On my desktop, in another browser, I was able to order. Fortunately all the items I wanted would ship, and I look forward to receiving my order.

Having issues trying to put an order down for the FOC Combaticons.
Each of the figures mentions that they are willing to ship internationally, however when I go to check out and try to complete my shipping address information, the field only allows for a US address with a message saying that these products do not ship internationally :confused:
Any else had much luck with this lot?

Okay... it seems that there is a method to ordering that you have to follow.
Start off adding things into your cart (you don't need to register an account).
Go to checkout when done.
It will list all your items, and at the bottom, it will list the US Shipping amount.
BENEATH THAT, it will give you a link to click on if you are shipping to an international location.
Click on it and select your country.
This will then tell you if any of your items are not actually available (they probably haven't converted everything over yet... or just missed some items for the filter).
Remove all those items and then click on "check out".
It will then take you to a screen, to enter in your address details (NOTE - you must use your credit card's billing address as your shipping address. This prevents fraudulent use of stolen card details.)
You also select your payment option out of the credit cards listed - it includes Paypal as an option, but since this is a third party ordering on your behalf, like a shipping forwarder, don't be surprised if the Paypal option may not yet be possible. This also means that your credit card statement is supposed to show a charge to the "I-parcels" company, NOT ToysRUs. If there are any issues with the order or its availability, it is the "I-parcels" company that you'd probably have to deal with instead of TRU.
I ordered 12 items (3 were rejected), leaving me with 9 (Combaticons, MP Cracker, Gen Sandstorm, Gen Laserbeak, TFPrime Voy Dreadwing), costing $188 plus $45 shipping. If I bought those in Australia it would cost about $285, which only saved me about $50... but three of those items aren't here (yet), while the others are currently hard to find.
It is amusing to see some typos in their order forms, and that they use the Australian flag for Anguila (http://www.toysrus.com/shop/index.jsp?categoryId=13311658). It was also interesting to see Gen Laserbeak listed twice, and one of them was rejected, while one was okay.
Happy shopping people... get it while it lasts. (I can't imagine Hasbro, Mattel and Lego would be too happy with it, and could try to stop it after a while)

Thanks Griffin, after my original post I had found the international link and got to the i-parcel order form but it would either freeze the page or give me a URL not found error after filling in the form and clicking proceed to checkout. Solution I found see below...

Turns out this was my issue...for some reason I couldn't complete the i-parcel checkout page in firefox on an imac, but could in safari
Oh well, order placed now...fingers crossed they have good stock control and the website doesn't allow orders to be placed if they have run out!?

Sent them an email three hours ago, and got a reply an hour ago (considering it is Sunday morning over there, that's pretty darn good service).
I asked if the out-of-stock item can be removed from the order, so that the rest of it will ship straight away.
The reply was that they'd try to see if TRU can cancel that item... so sounds like this new 3rd-party set-up is still working out how to deal with all possible situations.

Saw that last night.
Shipping shouldn't make it more than AU$150... and would be less if you buy something with it (and get the 20% off if you get above US$125 on FULL PRICE items - not MP Thundercracker :( ).
Pity you can't get the website to match the in-store pricing, which is being forced to match the US$100 price of the earlier shipment, thanks to the master cartons actually stamped with the $100 price tag.
As for me, I have had no progress on my order, so sent another email to ask if the order can be sent or just cancelled (so that I can source the items elsewhere), because I fear that the longer it takes for them to decide to concede that they wont be restocking the item I ordered, the other items are slowly selling out (if they didn't set aside my items to begin with).

The extra time taken is because it isn't TRU doing the orders - it is a third party they signed on to take the orders and then process them on their behalf.... which is probably why things go out of stock between the time you place the order and when the 3rd party gets around to processing it. :(

I finally got an email to say that they can't cancel the out-of-stock item, or the order, so now I just have to wait until.... not sure what really. TRU is not likely to get in more Dreadwings, so either the order will sit there forever unfulfilled, or some time down the track someone is going to decide to just cancel the entire order. Because I doubt that they set aside the rest of the items I ordered. My thinking is that this third-party will only initiate the shipment (forward the order to ToysRUs) when all items are in stock. Something that won't happen now with mine, now that two more items are now no longer in stock.
In theory, this third-party option is a good idea, as it takes advantage of the massive price difference in non-American countries, but until they work out the bugs (like if part of the order goes out of stock between placing the order with the 3rd party and the 3rd party placing the order with TRU), be hopeful, but expect issues at this time.
I hope other peoples' orders go more smoothly, so that I and others will take the risk in future.

They charged my card too a few days ago. I received no emails confirming my order had been shipped or anything, so I sent an email to i-parcel asking about it. They replied saying that it had been sent off and 'is pending an individual arrival scan and then it will go on to customs clearance,' and gave me a local tracking number for AusPost that I can use once it's arrived here. The email address I used is: trackmyparcel@i-parcel.com.
As far as cancelling or changing the order however, I got no reply on that at all. (It states on the ToysRUs website that your order can only be cancelled or changed up to an hour after it's placed.) I did ring up ToysRUs in the US to get more info, and they were nice and everything but said that because I was an international customer that I had to contact i-parcel for anything to do with my order.
Edit: Just checked. It arrived in Sunshine West a few days ago, yay! (They could have told me sooner!)

Did you pay through PayPal or Credit card? You could consider opening a dispute if you think you have sufficient grounds. How can they not refund you for something that is out of stock?
griffin

So let me get this straight, you ordered an item that is now out of stock and not likely to ship however they have already charged your credit card but won't let you cancel the order?! Yeah, I won't be ordering from them.
Considering the timeline, I think it's fair. (not the cancelling bit, as that seems to be a sticking point at the moment... due to there being an issue with adequate communication to sort out these bugs to begin with)
It's just that between the time I placed the order with the third party, and the time that the third party tried to place their order with TRU, one of the items sold out. It's the drawback of not ordering directly with the source, as it can just take minutes for the remainder of something to sell out.
And the third party wouldn't buy the items from the TRU site (to then forward on to us) if they didn't have the money from the buyer first.
So...
- I placed the order with iParcel while all 9 items were in stock
- iParcel charge my card
- they receive my money (a day or two, or instant... either way, if the order was placed outside of their work hours, there could be a delay before they can now place the order)
- they go to place the order on the TRU website, but one item was now sold out
- they then email me about it, but don't say (or know) how long they will sit on the order.
If this third party business is off-site and just orders through the TRU website (like shipping forwarders), then they haven't got any of the other 8 items on hold... and the order will just keep being held until everything ends up being out of stock. :(

I am sorry to hear that griffin. Hopefully U.S. TRUS are better and faster with restocking there shelves than they do over here so that in the end all your stuff does come back in.
My order consisting of just a MP Thundercracker came in yesterday, so that was exactly a 2 week turnaround, with no notification. I was about to jump on iParcel lol. Packing was pretty basic. Definitely not like what I've seen with the likes of BBTS, RK and TF Source, but still undamaged and in excellent condition inside.

Yep, just got my package today as well.
Pros:
Very nice items, all MIMSB. Very happy.
Great prices (GDO voyager Megatron for $23, which is a bargain compared to anything I've seen on eBay - haha yeah I caved and got him... like I knew I would :o).
Cons:
Can only cancel or change your order within an hour of placing it.
Communication is lacking.
Cannot order all items listed on site.

Thanks for the heads up, I've been pondering over whether I should get the GDO Voyagers from Taiwan or the US. Guess now I have the added option of waiting out for the Hot Spot and Powerdive to be listed :)
For anybody still chasing one, it seems like GDO Wheelie is now available (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=16803576&ab=TRU_Header:Transformers-Deluxe-Action-Figure-Wheelie:Failed-Search-Results) :)

This came as a real surprise, but my TRU order arrived today... well, the 8 in-stock items.
They could have at least told me that they were shipped. Their two emails notifying me that an item was out of stock, and that they couldn't cancel the order, never even implied that the rest of the order was sent or what they were going to do with the remaining item (to send or to refund).
It explains why they couldn't cancel the order... but they could have said why.
And the 8 items (7 carded, 1 boxed Masterpiece) were just thrown into the big box with a small square of bubble-wrap sitting loose on top (not even enough to fill the empty space to stop stuff moving around and bending all the backing cards).
So for others thinking of using this, it is like Amazon.com - don't order if you are a Mint-Sealed toy collector. Otherwise, it is a good, cheap source for toys... especially if they aren't released here.

I have got an email reply from TRU America, stating that they are having difficulties with international shipping. They have said that MP Optimus Prime and all other products (not huge ones) will be able to ship, once these problems are resolved.
Hopefully it won't be long, but I have no idea as of yet.

I ordered GDO Hot Spot, Power Dive, Bluestreak, Swerve and DOTM Air Raid (some member here was searching for him, cant remember who - if you know who message him it can be found on this site) My order got confirmed in a couple of hours as well! Hot Spot & Power Dive are WAY cheaper here than BBTS :D
Note about Swerve: Swerve is listed twice - one with a photo and one without. When i had the photo one selected it said could not be shipped internationally, so I deselected him and got the one without a photo and it went through no probs! :)

A bit old, but this package arrived on the 27th. Very surprised by the shipping time, was not expecting this package to arrive until 2013. It was also checked by customs, who kindly did not open the original packaging of any of the figures, and placed all 3 figures into a box that fit them snugly (Guess that counts as good feedback for Aussie customs?) :)
Hot Spot's box was damaged -- there was a puncture mark on the front of the box :(, but it looks like the damage was done before customs went through it, as their packaging was immaculate.

I received a shipping confirmation and tracking number from i-parcel a few days after placing my order. I only ordered in early Jan though so it's possible that this is something new. Shipping time from the US is generally on the order of 10 business days, but may sometimes take up to 30.
You could try contacting i-parcel directly and see if they can provide you with a tracking number otherwise you'll probably just have to sit tight until it turns up at your door. :)

Typical - I was going to cancel my pre-order of Grimlock & Blaster from BBTS as it seems absolutely everywhere has gotten these toys in before them, and then order them from Toys R Us instead. But for some reason you can get Grimlock delivered but not Blaster . It's weird that BBTS have had Blasters discs/cassettes in for a forntight but still no Blaster himself.

Blaster is the third release of a mould within a short amount of time, so he should be as rare if not rarer than Soundblaster. However Soundblaster was released en masse with Soundwave - always looks as though the numbers of Wave 1's are produced more than any following waves. Also the Autobot discs are accessories to Blaster, so I would imagine a lesser chance of somebody picking them up if they did not already get a hold of Blaster.
ToysRUs.com has a habit of slowly releasing figs onto their website, with a chance that they may not even list it if the fig sells really well in domestic retail. In the same wave assortment, I was waiting a few weeks between the release of GDO Megatron (2/4 per box) and GDO Hotspot (1/4 per box, but rarer and pricier on eBay because he's more well known than Powerdive, also 1/4 per box). Just sign up for notification of the figure you want and then pounce on it as soon as you get that email!

If you're looking to pay by Paypal, just be mindful that it can get a little complicated dealing with a 3rd party (iParcel)...
I purchased some items for my son on the TRU website and chose to pay by Paypal early this month.
The TRU website directed me to the Paypal website (this after I'd entered all my details as well as items selected into the TRU system for the purchase) where I then confirmed my payment (which was transferred to iParcel via Paypal).
The problem arose when the TRU website showed "System Error" at the final "Thank you for your purchase" page.
The money was already paid to iParcel but the TRU system strangely lost my order.
I immediately contacted TRU (via email and then a phone call) who confirmed that their system didn't log my order and they couldn't help me.
Attempts to contact iParcel were futile UNTIL I lodged in a Paypal claim.
iParcel then emailed me 2 shipping tracking numbers and asked that I drop the claim.
I immediately replied for them to confirm what was ordered plus the address... it's close to 10 days now and I've not heard back nor have I received my money.
Paypal tells me that the money should be retrieved by day 11 (fingers crossed).
I'm now unsure on what to expect but I'd not recommend anyone pay by Paypal if it involves a 3rd party (like the TRU website does) as TRU simply washed their hands from all this and iParcel don't reply to their emails... I'll stick to credit card payments direct to the retailer in future

Strangely when I re-attempted to order the same toys last night (due to the initial screw up with the website early this month), I noted that the shipping costs have gone up exponentially.
What was previously quoted as $120 for shipping the same items in early Feb, has now gone up to $225!
so unless you're chasing up some exclusive not sold locally, there's no savings to be made when shipping is factored in.

That's really dissapointing to hear. I ordered a bunch of toys off them before Christmas and was very impressed how cheap the shipping was, and the toys themselves were quite reasonable. Maybe they have discovered they were not gouging as much on international orders and they could

That truly sux; my GDO Voyagers arrived in a non-Hasbro box that fit all 3 of them snugly and it's for that reason that I've recommended them.
Do you have a record of its non-delivery? Maybe a checklist that came with the package upon arrival, or an email that says that they're unable to deliver it but won't refund you?

Now if only Amazon America would be more prolific with their items, as they are still pretty good with prices and shipping.

Well that explains why the USPS quotes at BBTS are close to the UPS quotes now. The postal service (USPS) shouldn't be more expensive or close to the price of a courier service (UPS). I wonder if this is a result of prolonged high fuel cost, which would now be the main expense of both services... overshadowing whatever costs were making UPS more expensive in the past.
This is also not good for anyone going on future US trips (and BotCon) that result in more purchases than the airlines will accept... as USPS were already very restrictive with box sizes, so up to 15% more is going to mean cutting back on what you want to buy and bring back. :(

My account still has my billing account address details which are Australian, but my shipping address details are blank and it will only let me put in an American address to save.
