Hey, as long as Wahlberg doesn't treat the Autobots as his new 'funky bunch' or some weird robotic 'Boogie Nights' spinoff, I'm cool with that! :D

I'm trying not to be a Bay hater, but I can't help but think "Whose fault is it that the franchise needs re-invigorating?"

Ratchet: Hey Optimus what happened to Sam?
Optimus: Dunno, but we have his uncle here. Uncle Mark!
Uncle Mark: Nononononononnonoono
Ratchet: Ah these humans. They all look the same to me.

I like mark wahlberg and don't have any problems with his casting. I'm wondering if they are going to move the story say 20 years into the future and have wahlberg play a older sam witwicky

I like Marky Mark (he was awesome in The Departed!!)... it's the script/direction that I'm nervous about!

I wonder if he'll play The Touch during the movie. In this instance it would actually make sense....
Anyway, personally I don't watch very many movies (I still haven't seen the third TF movie) but from what I have seen of Walhberg he goes alright. I agree he played it well in The Departed.

He's the guy in Planet of the Apes. Before that he was I think a rapper who has a penchant for going barenaked ( think Gray sama in Fairy Tail) and an underwear ad grabbing the crown jewels while in his Calvins.... hence Metalikato's reply heheheh:D

I very much approve of Mark Wahlberg's casting, a step in the right direction for M. Bay with this one. ;)

Interesting...
The use of Sam and Mikaela was clear enough - to appeal to a teen audience.
The use of someone like Mark Wahlberg, who is 41 years old, is perhaps an indication of a major shift in intended audience.
He's not a fatherly figure, and I'm certain he hasn't been brought into the project because of his way with words. He's here to fight.

Marky Mark is one of my all time favorite actors, so for me I'm sure i'll love it even more now. As for fight scenes, you just know his going to have a punch on with one of the smaller transformers, how could he not :D

Movie release date (for future reference) is June 27th, 2014.
Not that Michael Bay has always been reliable when it comes to details (he said Megatron wasn't coming back for TF2, & a few weeks ago said (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-movie-just-movie-31/mark-wahlberg-in-talks-for-transformers-4-176178/) it was just a rumour that Mark Wahlberg was for TF4), he's now claiming (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-movie-just-movie-31/michael-bay-talks-transformers-4-plot-mark-wahlberg-and-shia-176284/) that the movie will be released July 4th 2014.
The link is an interview from TMZ with Michael Bay, which comments on how Shia spoke out against the Director (so did Megan Fox... and now both are replaced), plus says that TF4 will be set four years after the last movie.

Yeah but apart from all the other tripe that falls out of his mouth the release dates have always been pretty accurate haven't they?

I think Invincible and The Fighter were two of his best roles. Showed how serious an actor he was.

UPDATE!
From The Hollywood Reporter: Michael Bay Testing Hot Young Actors for 'Transformers 4' Leads (Exclusive) (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/michael-bay-testing-hot-young-390516)
Highlights:
Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Transformers 4 has a story that centers on Wahlberg's character and his daughter. In addition, the daughter’s boyfriend, a race car driver, is the third lead in the film.
Testing for the daughter and boyfriend roles is set for this week. Among those vying for the female role are Isabelle Cornish, sister of Australian actress Abbie Cornish (Limitless); Nicola Peltz, who appeared in M. Night Shyamalan’s Paramount movie The Last Airbender and has a part in A&E’s Bates Motel; Margaret Quallay, the daughter of actress Andie MacDowell; and Gabriella Wilde, who is in the new Carrie movie.
There are five young men testing: Luke Grimes, who appeared on ABC's Brothers & Sisters and is in Taken 2; Landon Liboiron, who co-starred on Fox's Terra Nova and will be seen in the upcoming Netflix series Hemlock Grove; Australian Brenton Thwaites, who starred in the telefilm Blue Lagoon: The Awakening; relative newcomer Jack Reynor; and Weeds co-star Hunter Parrish.
Sources say Paramount is signing actors to strict three-picture deals, but no one is balking because the chance to be the next Shia LaBeouf is seen as a huge opportunity.

Bay likes to be known for casting relatively inexperienced actors / actresses e.g. the entire cast for the first movie aside from Jon Voight. It would be nice if he pulled out all the stops and got some big names in for Transformers 4 to give it a bit of credibility.
Preferably though, I'd prefer for the focus to be on the Transformers but we all know what to expect and what we'll be getting  ;)

I'd have to disagree with that. If they filled the cast with several big names, the focus/marketing will be on the humans, as each will be expecting/demanding more screen time (which would all add up among the lot of them). Plus, their star power would mean each follow-up movie with their "central" character, would cost more and more just to retain them. The X-men movies seemed to go down that route, as the stars kept demanding more money, to the point that I think they couldn't make any more "group" movies, so instead had to do an Origin movie to cut the cost from several multi-million dollar stars to just one.
The second GIJoe movie added in three big names to the cast, filling major character roles. If they make any more (if the second one ever gets released), those actors will either be paid a lot more to keep them, or their characters get killed off or removed suddenly. The former can ruin the movie (too much focus on them to get better value from their fee), while the latter can upset the fans.
If a movie has a good story, they don't need big stars to draw people in. Look at Star Wars.
The first Transformers movie threw in one well-known actor, one rising TV show star, and Hugo Weaving as a voice actor (for the credits), as insurance. But in the end, those three people weren't the reason people were going to see the movie.... so future ones shouldn't need it if the story is good, and the SFX are good. Again, look at Star Wars - they threw in a couple big actors, but only gave them back-up roles as insurance (with their names on the credits). It was the story and SFX that sold the movie and kept people coming back for more.

True, but Ted is fan-friggin-tastic! Best movie of 2012!
Watched 'The Other Guys' the other day and for something where Wahlberg was teamed up with Will Ferrell it wasn't too bad. Downloading Ted as we speak to get more of a feeling for Mark's range.
I agree with Griffin - while it would be nice to have some big name actors - the only actor I fully need attached with the movie is Cullen. And I want the focus as much as possible to be on the bots - humans jut get in the way
That said, forgive me for being a caveman in many respects, but I don't mind a little eye candy in the movies - IF they can act :D

The official Paramount site (http://www.paramount.com/webmaster/instructions.php?mid=102) has contradicted Bay with the release date, listing the before-mentioned June 27th date instead. Seibertron appears to have a webmaster access (http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/transformers-4-website-minor-updates/26330/), so has obtained some other info that I couldn't find on the public site.

Bay does interviews in the same way as he directs his films - Chaotic and confusing.
