View Full Version : New 3P Predaking (Not MMC's)

Like it was with Maketoys Giant vs Hercules, looks like we now have two 3rd parties doing Predakings.

Here is the new yet to be identified contender:

Apparently it is based on this fan made custom figure:

That looks pretty damn good  From the looks of the custom next to Cyclonus, he's a few centremetres taller than Green Giant? Love that lion head and the impressive wingspan -- bring on the beast kibble!! Would have preferred his giant shoulder cannons to be on his back like the G1 cartoon (as per the awesome S3 episode: Call of the Primitives) rather than on the shoulder joints :)

The combined mode is looking good, all the features I'd hope for in the torso and left arm are there.

Divebomb individually looks pretty simplistic though.

lol that's the issue I have with the MMC silhouette but as we saw with that Omega Supreme, silhouettes hardly give you a true representation.

I am still leaning towards MMC as they are a proven company but these new guys do have my attention.

Hmm...

I'm with you Kup. While this one does look pretty cool, MMC has a great reputation that will be hard to pass up. However those Ferocicons will be damn expensive I'm willing to bet. So we'll see...

If and when either of these companies get around to releasing them of course. Third party land is still rife with vaporware.

Still waiting for Hexatron, Presser, Assaulter...

Oh wait the last one of those actually happened. :D

Looks pretty good and will probably look great in classicsverse, if it sees the light of day. I really like how the combined form's thighs are Razorclaw's legs with a crotch plate on it.

Lord_Zed
6th December 2012, 08:45 PM
I sure hope Tantrum and Headstrong end up a lot bigger than in the custom, because his legs are far too weedy.

An update via TFormers, with prototype not-Razorclaw compared against Hercules Structor (http://tformers.com/transformers-unique-toys-warlord-beasticon-first/19101/news.html). If Razorclaw is almost voyager sized, and the other not-Predacons are deluxe sized, then this not-Predaking should be roughly taller than Maketoys Giant/FP Colossus.

http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/3rd-party-unlicensed-41/unique-toys-war-leo-revealed-and-size-comparison-pics-176530/

I am sorry new dudes but judging by their Tantrum, MMC wins hands down. Those toys look too geewun for me.

Lord_Zed
19th December 2012, 07:35 PM
I have no problem with a well executed geewun update, however Razorclaw looks compromised by combined form and gimmick. I'm guessing his big torso contains batteries for the light up lion eyes. it's a nifty gimmick but it makes the robot mode look awkward. The arms lack a bit of detail too.

I don't think he looks that bad, but at the moment Masterminds Tantrum is bringing a bit more to the table.

Pre-order for War Hawk/not-Divebomb is up on BBTS (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=UQT10000&mode=retail).
As their size scaling is in line with TFC Hercules, price pointing is also at that same level -- not-Divebomb is $95, so the full set is likely be over $500 as not-Razorclaw is a larger fig.

Also revealed is not-Divebomb's alt mode (via BBTS):

My position is something like this:
I'm definitely picking up the MMC version, even at the inflated Japanese specialty shop prices.
I may also pick up the UT version. They are, as kup pointed out, very geewun, but I'm a sucker for the G1 Predacons - they're my favourite combiner team. Chances are it'll ultimately come down to how much I like the official TakTom offerings this year - MP Soundwave is a must-have as are his little friends, there are a few Beast Hunters figs I'm interested in, and we've got 40-odd Generations figures coming out, so it'll really be a question of how many of the above official figures turn out to be worth getting as to whether the budget stretches that far.

(Unique Toys) War Lord VS (Mastreminds) Reformatted - Feral Rex Depends on whether you prefer resemblance to G1 (UT) or updated-but-different-design (MMC).
Personally I'm going for the MMC version (they're not especially faithful to the originals, but they look amazing), but if you want G1 accuracy with better posability then UT would be the way to go. TBH if the budget stretches far enough then I'll get both sets.

That said, maybe wait on reviews once people actually have them in-hand...right now it's all just a few pics on the internet.

I'm going for MMC easily despite less accurate G1 alt-modes. I welcome the update and consistency, since Green Giant and FP Colossus's individual robot modes are also different to their G1 incarnations.

While the UT ones look pretty cool I do have to say they sort of look like a "What if Hasbro/TakTomy made the Predacons with todays technology".
Which in itself isn't a bad thing, but seeing as I only just bought the 2010 reissue Predacons if I was going to buy one or the other I'd probably get the MMC one.
But if the complete set ends up being a bargain basement price I might end up reconsidering.

Okay this is a quick review on the new not Divebomb. He is deluxe size and really
does have the G1 look and feel. This I do like so it was that and the price that made me get this over MMs version. The Botmode has all the standard modern articulation. Waist, shoulders, elbows, head, ball jointed hips, Leg swivel. knees. the wings are great. Each feather can move and the wing can move up and down and in and out.
http://i1237.photobucket.com/albums/ff473/VERTYSNAP/DSC_0495.jpg

The Bird mode.. Well its more or less the same as G1, But again with articulation.
The Head moves and the mouth can open. The wings can move around same as bot mode and the legs can move. Each Bird foot has three articulated claws. I think that was a nice touch.
http://i1237.photobucket.com/albums/ff473/VERTYSNAP/DSC_0494.jpg

Arm Mode.. Looks quite nice, and has a full range of movement. Its about as long as the Hercules Devastator Arms. But with less bulk. The Hand is fantastic. Sharp spikes and fully articulated. Every part of each finger moves. Hands down BEST Combiner hand ever :D
http://i1237.photobucket.com/albums/ff473/VERTYSNAP/DSC_0493.jpghttp://i1237.photobucket.com/albums/ff473/VERTYSNAP/DSC_0490.jpg

Plastic... Its all hard plastic as in none of the softer plastic. So feels a little brittle. But not cheap and nasty like that $100 Impossible Toys Arcee that came out. Divebomb is not going to shatter if you drop him. But does feel a little cheaper than a Fansproject figure.....But they are the best so that not fair... It feels better in hand than most modern Hasbro figures.

If you can afford it I would recommend the MMs versions. We all know they are amazing. But if your on a bit of a budget and want one real nice Predaking (Cause I think thats going to be this sets strong point) Get this set.

Thanks for the review! This Predaking set does seem like a perfectly good alternative for those that want a more 'G1' articulated Predaking.

The arm mod does look amazing.

Not-Razorclaw prototype pics up at tformers.com (http://tformers.com/transformers-unique-toys-war-leo-not/19817/news.html).
Alt-mode looks pretty decent but bot mode is let down by the oversized lion head for his chest. Aside from the oversized lion head/chest both modes are noticeably less faithful to G1 than Not-Divebomb, not that that's necessarily a bad thing here (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/File:G1toy-Razorclaw.jpg).

It's still MMC by a long shot for me.

Yeah the Lion head is huge. I will be getting this. Im committed now cause I have Divebomb. This kitty will make a great Predaking chest. And look this Razorclaw has arms....As in the G1 had arms like stumps :D Hope they release the next one soon.

TFsource had a new prototype combined mode pic up on their Facebook page the other day (I would link to it but on iPhone). It looked pretty awesome.

As for Razorclaw, as long as he hasn't got the T-Rex arms that the G1 version had its going to be an improvement.

I'm not a fan of third party stuff, generally, but that is nice. Anymore detailed and it's overkill. There's a reason Hasbro/Takara streamline a lot of their designs.
