I did notice that the box was a little beat up.
I've read similar reports on the TFW forums, it seems like the handling and/or shipping from China to the US was particularly rough. I think Sidecutter from Captured Prey wrote that DHL were responsible for the first wave which suffered quite a bit of damage but that FansToys were going to try a different carrier for the second. Either they weren't able to do it, or it didn't help any.
Oh and there is nothing that I could see in the instructions about collapsing/extending the torso for transformation either, so just be aware of that.
Yep, I discovered it by accident and then promptly forgot about it. :o When pulling out the figure's legs, make sure to hold the lower half of the torso, don't grab him above the waist. Some people managed to pull the figure in half due to the stiff leg mechanisms.
A little bit of a neck would have given his head a bit better range of motion and also helped the overall appearance.
Yeah, while the no-neck appearance looks pretty faithful to all his toy/cartoon/comic incarnations I think the artists cheated a bit.
The body has a raised bump that allows a reasonable up and down motion when looking straight ahead but limits it when the head is turned to the side. I can't see any reason for it to be so long so grinding the ends down could be a good fix, though I'm not sure I'm brave enough to try it yet.

For anyone who missed out, Captured Prey have just released limited stock (40 units) from the second run at the original $150 price. Preorders for a confirmed third run are also popping up with a mid-June release.

That's not a trigger. It is a clip used to hold the butt in place. Although it does do a good trigger impersonation.

They made a mistake and only sent me one Quakewave when I had ordered two so the postage on the package is not correct.
They originally charged me $69.60 shipping for 2x Quakwaves

Just got this email from Captured Prey:
Hi All,
Quick update. The solid hands/guns for our first-run Quake Wave customers (YOU!) are all finally packed, labeled, and on the way out. They'll be headed to the post office tomorrow sometime. Here's the lowdown for everyone affected:
The hands are shipping via First Class Mail. There's no tracking, and you won't see any additional updates to your order reflecting their shipment, just this message letting you know.
International customers, please allow several weeks, as first class mail can be pretty darn slow at times, and seems to be slower of late. If you don't have the hand within 8 weeks I'll gladly send another!
Domestic (USA) customers, you should receive the hands within a few days, but please allow a couple weeks to be sure. I'll be glad to resend at that point if it hasn't arrived.
If you still have an order pending other items with a first-run Quake Wave, your hand parts have NOT been mailed. You will receive them with the toy when your order is complete and ships.
Thanks,
Orson "Sidecutter" Christian
Owner, Captured Prey

It'll be in there with the hand, unless you mean the replacement arm with alternate hose placement which won't be available until FT's second figure is released.

I have a question about the battery for this figure.
Would anyone know if the cr1020 is the same thing as a cmos c1020 battery?
This cr1020 is extremely difficult to find. Why would they use such a difficult battery to find is beyond me.

Try a cr1025. That is a suitable alternative. Since they are a watch battery, try a watch repair shop. That's where I got mine.

"It is but it isn't" ? That's not very good justification..
I can agree that out of the trio Quakewave has the least amount of quality but if you take the execution of the electronics aside, he is more or less on par with an official modern Masterpiece toy....their views smell a little funny..

I saw this on the TFW thread the other day, nice that they've managed to push out the arm parts now, instead of waiting until the next figure release. It's a pretty clever design, though it does mean sacrificing the light up function. FT are also sending arms for past orders to retailers so check in with them if you don't hear anything in the next little while. :)

Aaaaand Preordered. But what's this about no light feature if you use the underslung hose?
Yep. That is disappointing to me. I would have kept the light feature.
I have put the new arm on to see if I like it but lacking the light feature isn't worth it. I would have preferred if they had kept the light feature and not used that spinning hose gimmick. They could of just had the connecting to the other arm pegs on the other side of the arm for the gun mode.
Iriorne
27th July 2013, 07:04 PM
But what's this about no light feature if you use the underslung hose?
The underslung hose arm uses a rotating segment to keep the hose on top in gun mode and underneath the arm in robot mode. Due to the rotating parts, there's no room for the battery and switch for the lighting.
They could of just had the connecting to the other arm pegs on the other side of the arm for the gun mode.
That would have been a super simple way to do it, and if they'd duplicated the the peg holes on the other side of the other arm you could keep the gun mode looking symmetrical. I suspect the figure was too far along in development by the time it was revealed to go back and make changes.

But they did make changes. The new arm! They didn't have to necessarily omit the light gimmick for the rotating one. They could have done it another way.
For me, it's a bad trade off. It doesn't really improve anything when the lack of light up gimmick neutralizes the benefit the new hose position may give.
Given the effort that clearly went on this new part, I just would have gone about it a different way that wouldn't have required so much compromise. Oh well, not a big deal, it is still a great toy and now you have the option to swap the arm if you prefer one over the other.
Iriorne
27th July 2013, 07:52 PM
But they did make changes. The new arm!
True, but to keep the gun looking symmetrical would have required the other arm to be redone as well, plus it would have exposed the switch on the top side of the gun. The sliding gun barrel would need to be disassembled and reversed, and then the wires in the arm probably might not be long enough.
I don't think there was ever going to be a way to please everyone, especially with a limited budget (it's free, after all). :)
millhouse
29th July 2013, 04:24 PM
Gotta say, I'm loving this figure. Sure, the light-up feature is canned if you want to underslung hose, and yes, it was possible for them to make it to have both, but they way I see it, if you want the underslung hose, you want it that way because it's cartoon accurate, and no offence, but I don't believe Shockwave had a clear hand and gun in the cartoon.
Perfect? No, but damn good and earns its place among my Masterpieces.

It will be interesting to see who they do. With the official MP line ramping up I can see people (as well as myself) waiting for official releases of certain characters rather than buy 3rd party ones. Take the 2 3rd Party Huffers coming out. I'm probably gonna skip them both and await the official one. I may be waiting 2-3 years but I don't mind.
With that in mind I would like 3rd party groups to tackle characters we aren't likely to see for a long time if ever from the MP line. At the top of my list would be an IDW Nova Prime in full glory. Imagine him standing opposite MP-10
Season 3 characters like Kup, Blurr, Arcee, Springer, Wreckgar, Sky Lynx, Alpha Trion, Scourge, Cyclonus, other Dinobots, etc. Even attempt a combiner like Abominus!
Maybe even a Beast Wars character or 2 :)

Taktomy seem to have written of MP Galvatron and gone back to the first 2 series of G1 after their somewhat disappointing Rodimus. Maybe a third party can pick up the slack and give us Galvatron.
